Do you guys think that Dragon Slayer is superior to Ys: Book I & II, as the editors of EG felt back in 1993? Dragon Slayer was up against Night Trap (Sega CD) and Loom (PC). I dug Loom (it was OK), and I played Night Trap (after the initial novelty wore off, it was pretty tedious), so DS should have won hands down. Of course, I doubt that the readers voted accordingly. Yes, I have a ton of new page scans in the pipeline. They should trickle out on a regular basis.
Quote from: esteban on 02/25/2008, 04:18 AMWhat do you think the ideal size should be for page scans? I want to prepare for the next generation (or three) of fancy, widescreen monitors. On my 19" 4:3 1280x1024 monitor, they're all quite legible. The last one is large enough for the text to be readable, but the screen shots are a bit on the small side; the first two are better, though the text is probably too big and some panning is required. I'd go with the wide one, since wide screen monitors are becoming more and more common, and it's preferable to see pages side by side when the graphics spanned both pages like that.

In all seriousness though, I'm glad something motivated you to make a move on that. It almost excuses your 6 month hiatus from the forums.

Quote from: nat on 02/26/2008, 01:06 AMThank god that never saw the light of day.Call me a masochist, but I would have wanted to see this released, later, as a "Sports Package" including extra pads and a turbotap. No one would have bought it, of course, but it would have been a novelty :).
Quote from: esteban on 02/26/2008, 12:25 AMAside: I thought you folks would have started talking about the TV SPORTS 4-in-1 pack-in for the TurboDuo (https://archives.tg-16.com/index.htm#16yearsago) by now...It may have helped sales a bit, as they could've swapped out Ys I & II for this thing and picked up a few anti-RPG gamers. Shitty trade off, but sports games sold well for the Genny.
Quote from: guyjin on 02/26/2008, 10:01 PMthe baseball game would probably just have been a renaming of world class baseball.I wouldn't think so, since the game in the review looks quite different from World Class Baseball. It would've made more sense for them to finish up TV Sports Baseball than it would've for them to recycle one of Hudson's games.

Quote from: guest on 02/27/2008, 12:28 AMNecro, thanks for pointing out to guyjin that there was, indeed, a TV SPORTS Baseball (https://archives.tg-16.com/archive-three/TP-11-16.jpg), but it was never released. There was a person here... he was on jluedke's podcast "The Drunken Gamers"... who was a reviewer back in the day. IIRC, he played the TV Sports Baseball game (either as an eprom or at a trade show) and said the version he saw still had some rough parts. The published review describes rough patches as well.Quote from: esteban on 02/26/2008, 12:25 AMAside: I thought you folks would have started talking about the TV SPORTS 4-in-1 pack-in for the TurboDuo (https://archives.tg-16.com/index.htm#16yearsago) by now...It may have helped sales a bit, as they could've swapped out Ys I & II for this thing and picked up a few anti-RPG gamers. I still haven't been courageous enough to talk about it here. I will, eventually, though.
Quote from: 16-bit on 03/09/2008, 10:37 PMIs there a particular scanner that you would suggest for magazine scanning?I think that any scanner (I use a pretty low-priced model in the 100-150$ range?) will do fine. I've used Canon and Epson, mostly, although I've also used some total crap models (MicroTek?). The key thing is to make sure the glass plate (platen) is clean (no grease or lint or scratches) and to set the resolution at a decent level. I've read conflicting information about the "ideal" resolution to scan at, but I suggest 300dpi because then I can enlarge parts of a page to get a really good look at something.
Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 03/14/2008, 02:11 AMYeah, Riftwar Saga is one of my games that I wish would've been finished. Who knows, maybe it was, but, they ran out of money to publish it :PTotally. Last night I did a quick search, but I couldn't find any info the developer "Kid's Source". Have you ever heard of them? Quote from: guest on 03/30/2008, 03:18 PMIts important to understand that Vic Ireland has eyes bigger than his stomach (in other words, pretty damn big eyes). Yeah, exactly. Could he have meant Grandia? Well, maybe, but SCEA released that so either way he was full of it.Quote from: esteban on 03/30/2008, 09:19 AM1. Basically I'm saying don't hold your breath for Gaijinworks's 360 version of Tengai Mayou Zira.
QuoteZeta, I actually love your bitter tone, but surely you can appreciate a character such as Victor Ireland (especially because he played a pivotal role in the history of TG-16 and TG-CD)...I envy his lame ass to be honest. He lived the otaku dream for a long time.

Quote from: arromdee on 12/10/2011, 12:00 PMGoing to Turbo Play #1, view all scans, and picking page 32 says that it's not found. The link to page 32 in the text works, but links to TP-02-32.jpg, not to TP-01-32. (Was the ad duplicated from month to month?)WILL HAPPEN, EVENTUALLY: Yeah, I want to re-scan all the issues and have a .pdf available. Anyone who is interested in helping me with this should drop me an email ;)
Is there any way to download a set of jpgs for an individual issue as a zip file or such so I can view it in an external reader? (Which would also require having duplicate ads if necessary) And without the logos on each page. Logos on each page are useful when you're creating a web site to keep from being ripped off, but they're lousy when it comes to preserving material.
