Hey Everyone,
We just had Hudson's John Lee on the latest episode of Team Fremont Live, and of course I asked him what the story is with Bonk and why they haven't tried making a next-gen game yet. His answer: they have tried! It's a pretty interesting story.
You can download the 3/9 episode here:

The interview begins around the 50 minute mark, so you can skip all the other stuff if you'd like.
Enjoy!
sweet! I'll check it out when I have time.

Awesome. I haven't listened to your show in a while, but I had been listening to it religiously up until last summer. Great stuff! I love the group dynamics... pretty funny.
as for me, they can stay where the pepper grows.
Hmm, I clicked on it, but nothing's happening. Can someone just tell me what he basically said?
Dude, they've been saying this since "next-gen" was the Gamecube, I'll be damned if it comes out.
Come to think of it, if it's just the GC game with hacked-up Wii controls, I will not be surprised at all.
they now just released a new Star Soldier called "R". and it looks cheesy like all the other next-gen shmups stuff which came out recently :-&

Dude.....that looks fucking awesome..... HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS!?
Watch this.

Seriously. This is awesome. Go back to awesome school, you clearly never graduated.
sorry, but can't help myself, i will never get used to those new 3D blended shmups as long there're such awesome 2D shmups possible. 2D didn't reached its end yet, in fact it just started. but nearly the whole world does the ugly 3D thing, since now about 10yrs and longer.
looks like a cleaned up version of the n64 version :)
Oh and btw can you Team Fremont guys teach me how to draw on a Wacom tablet with only my ass? Seriously, damn.....

where does the pepper grow? and is staying there a good thing or a bad thing?

Sure, if you can teach me how to be an anonymous internet douchebag.
Seriously, damn...
Anyway, douchbaggery aside, the interview also has some really good info on Star Soldier R, as well as a tidbit on reviving classic Turbo franchises. I thought folks who frequent a Turbografx fansite forums would be interested.
Episode downloaded - I'll listen to 'er soon.

I too am pondering that one. :-k
The comments on a next gen Bonk are a little problematic to me. I have mixed feelings. I can understand wanting to wait for a full budget to make the best game you can make, but if they get the 3D model wrong it just means a bigger crater when they fall. I think they should make a simple, downloadable game to introduce key concepts to see if Bonk really has a market. Get interest in him flowing again and then make another bid for a proper budget.
I think releasing those GameCube/PS2 remakes on PSN or Xbox Live would be a good start to gauge interest.
Nice interview and show overall.
I think their best plan of attack would be to release bonk as a DS title. There are probably some great ways to include the touch screen and the dev. costs would be lower.
They should make a new next gen bonk game for the wii but they need to have a harness that attaches to your head that holds the wiimote. I mean lets really bonk while playing this game. Headbangers will love it!

Haha best idea for Bonk ever! Also being a metal head myself would make it even more fun. Hell even my wife would play that! She loves Bonk!
The PS2/GCN Bonk's Adventure remake (USA versions) for Xbox Live Arcade would be great! I'd buy it.
the absolute worse it is!
