I actually have no fight one way or the other on this title- I find the fardraut mode passable- not overly good- not overly weak.
me and a few MSX people talk about how stupid xevious music is
you get this nice FM music, and then you get the retards running in the field dooeoeodeldlelelreleldledleldleledeededodoo music.
yeah the music is terrible- however the fardraut mode's music is LEAGUES better

I remember that the NES version of that game was pretty cheap compared to other NES games years ago. While other NES games were going for $40, Xevious was selling for $20.

I like the PS1 version, not for the awful 3D version, but for the included Japanese-only Xevious Arrangement, the one that looks like a slightly upgraded version of the original with all the new bosses. Great stuff.
But Xevious on the PCE is my favorite. It plays every bit as well as the PS1 version, but I love the music and different ships.
Best thing about Xevious? Nothing.

I've enjoyed many hours of Xevious (Atari version). It may be basic, but what do you expect from one of the first vertically scrolling shooters?
I haven't played Xevious since I was a kid on the old Apple II. I never got very far, but I liked the game.

Seriously, though, from what I can tell, the people who like the game tend to have more patience for slower paced, more thoughtful shooters . Xevious has never been about white knuckle thrills. It's more about careful positioning interrupted by short bouts of evasive maneuvers, and managing the ground based artillery. It's kind of like the game equivalent of a Cohen Brothers movie. Either you get it and love it, or hate it and can't figure out what the fuss is about.
I like it because of the variety of enemies, the big assortment of ground stations that require a lot of strategy to deal with, and all of the secrets. Plus, it's one, huge, uninterrupted level which is unique.
And yeah, the Japanese go nuts for this game. It's like Pacman was over here. They have books, movies, half a dozen sequels. It never seemed to catch on over here like it did over there, alas.

Got a chance to play this at a laundromat today. Managed to get to the boss fortress but lost all my lives. :(

I can't use my imagination when I'm focusing on dodging enemy projectiles. Maybe I should come back and play the game when there is more of a louder commotion going on at the laundromat.
Haha when I bought my Kisado Converter from TZD back in the day they threw in a copy of Xevious. I played it once and found out why they gave it to me for free haha.
