Title: Pcenginefx eBay Auctions - Magical Chase/Raiden/Ghost Manor (ended)
Post by: PCEngineFX on 06/14/2009, 12:07 AM
(https://www.pcengine-fx.com/main/auctions/pcefx_auctions.jpg)

Due to the changing times, it has come to a point where I must finally start selling off my US Turbo game collection.  My collection of US Turbo games was completed early last year and the decision to sell it off has been on my mind for many years now but never felt right.  Now as I analyze where I am in my life with my family, I'm feeling the need to let go of some of my past to make way for the future.

For those of you wondering - I am not leaving the Turbo scene.  The site & forum will still be here so nothing should change in this respect.

The current plan is to offer the first batch of games on eBay a few at a time, starting at $0.01, no reserve and no BIN.  I will also be offering a select amount of games to forum members as well, however the method on how I will do this is yet to be determined.

Please feel free to post any questions and comments here and I will answer them.  Auctions w/photos will be linked below when available.

Sorry to hear that, man.

Always a sad day when you sell off something that took years to create.

I really hate the hear that you have to sell off your collection but at the same time I would love to be able to make a good home on my collection shelf for some of your items! The economy should be looking up soon tho maybe you will get lucky early in on the auctioning and be able to keep stuff!

Whats your ebay username?

Ebay username is Pcenginefx (added it to 1st post).

Sorry to hear about you selling your collection, Aaron.

Still, one man's loss is another man's gain!

Just kidding. Good luck with the auctions, I'll be sure to place a few bids.

P.S. Be sure to ban Game_Squad, Pompey Parsons, etc. from these auctions! I don't want any of your games getting in the hands of those obnoxious, price-gouging resellers! These games should be sold to those who will appreciate them. (Like me!)

This is very true! There are alot of resellers that are going to go for these items....I wonder pcengine if you should hold the auction on the forums. Like you could post a set of games and then start the bidding....Give it say 24 or 36 hours....Start the bidding at like .99 and then people come in and post there bids. See how the competition is on the forums...I will deff post a bid or two. Whoever posted the last bid at the end of the time gets it! YAY! =D>

Neways just an idea ofcourse im sure you would have to incorporate rules into it....I think it would be a sweet idea tho! Id be interested to see all the people that bid!

Sounds like you've made up your mind.  I'll be happy to give more than a few of your games a good home where they will be played and enjoyed if I can win them.

Hopefully you're getting rid of them because you are just moving on and not because you HAVE to.

I personally won't be bidding on any but I do wish you the best of luck with your sale!

I can't say that it wouldn't be thrilling to own a little bit of PCEngineFX history to love, and enjoy. I just wish it was guilt free. It really makes me sad.

If i am lucky enough to win anything I promise to give them a good home, and an honored place on my shelf.

Hey man! What's up?

What's the final word on the auctions? Will they be forum-only, straight to Ebay, or mix of both?
Title: Re: Pcenginefx eBay Auctions - Starting June 27th!

The first auctions here on this thread will be eBay only at first.  After this, I will offer the forum games directly.

There goes my chance of getting a boxed Magical Chase.

Oh well, it'll be entertaining to watch the ridiculous bids on this gold brick. Hey, let's have a little side pool to see how high it goes. Place your bets!  =D>

BTW, fantastic pictures.

Yah sorry Press_Run - these first games are being sold on eBay.  Photos are ok IMO (I could have done better but meh).

And yes Tengaimakyou, that is a sealed Magical Chase.  In fact, all 3 games never reached store shelves (I managed to get them before being displayed at a retail outlet) so they are all in as perfect shape as they can be considering their age.

Never seen a Magical Chase in such outstanding shape. You should make a lot of $$$$ on that. Hopefully a re-seller won't get it.

Is this first wave the only ones that will be eBay-only? If not, will any non-"rare"/valuable games be offered strictly within the forums?

There will most likely be a few more waves of eBay games, but I also want to start selling some forum-only games as well.  I'll probably hold some sort of forum auction where people can post their price for a particular game in the post.

I could be wrong but I think he was asking was more to the rarity of the games.  Will any of the harder to get games be offered here or only run of the mill stuff.  Like I said I could be wrong however thats the impression that I got.

Yeah, basically I was wondering if games like Magical Chase, Dynastic Hero, Super Air Zonk, Dungeon Explorer II, Beyond Shadowgate, etc would all be on eBay, or if some of these games with inflated eBay prices would be offered here instead?

I want to block this bidder from bidding on anything of mine in the future. Entered wrong amount my ass. I either say shill bidding (which I would really hope is not the case), someone being nosy, or screwing around. All of us have the right to know who that is with their monkey business. As far as I'm concerned if they wanna bid $1499.00 more than once, they need to be required to bid that amount permanently.

Nobody owes anyone anything- but aside from the technical semantics Quoth's got a good point.  It would be the proper thing to do- to quell suspicions of bid-shilling- it's not like anyone went out of their way in search of this auction- it was advertised here and placed here for all of us to see.  The least he can do is assure us that it's honest.  If you disagree with that Necro- congratulations.  1) You're not likely to sway everyone's opinion and 2) Aaron's a big boy- he can answer for himself.

I didn't say that Quoth didn't have a point, but rather opined that there's a big difference between asking for something and demanding it.

Furthermore, placing and retracting three fake bids (or whatever you want to call 'em) over the course of 103 seconds was an utter failure at shill bidding, as it had zero chance of creating a bid war, was likely unseen by any other bidders, and ultimately did absolutely nothing to the auction value.  Using my super secret ways of revealing bidder's IDs, my guess is that the goonball bidder is billygoins (http://myworld.ebay.com/billygoins), who has bought quite a few Turbo goodies lately including a bunch of over priced stuff from pompousparsons and a $450 Dynastic Hero.

touche!  :)

Seriously though- there wouldn't be much reason to bid shill here regardless- seeing the astronomical prices this game has been getting - and this one's sealed... When Aaron announced this one going up on the bay my guesstimate was that it would go for $2,100...

The eBay user that Necromancer mentioned is correct.  Looking at his history he has 34 bid retractions in the past 30 days.  He was trying to find out what the high bid was on the auction.

Ever heard of sleep? That is what I was doing. Never said anyone owed me anything either. I spotted it, and it needed to be brought up, as no one else did. As for your comment about me being demanding and piggish, that was the last thing I was being, so not sure why you were on the defense so much Necromancer, as I think more than myself was wanting to know the answer to what I asked for.

Thank you for confirming the ID Necromancer stated Aaron, I really appreciate it. I have heard of this ID before and indeed that is his behavior. I knew about him before (not sure where though), but it seems that he slipped under my radar. Either way, he's blocked for future purposes.

That's my point - you didn't ask for anything but rather accused Aaron of impropriety and demanded his response.

Back on topic: Aaron, do you have unsealed copies of these games that you'll also be selling?  If so, I'd rather wait for one of those than nab one of these, as I definitely wouldn't be able to honor your wish that they remain unopened.

Well its been a while since i posted here :) after i got burnt by some ex members i tended to stay away, but i saw this auction and couldnt believe you would be selling Magical Chase in that condition.. It must have been a hard decision, can i ask how long its taken to come to? :)

I'd give anything to get the game, my bid unfortunately has long gone..  and all im really after is the box..

Best of luck with the auctions, im about 5 games and the odd loose item away from my complete boxed collection, if at some point you decide to clear loose bits ( boxes, manuals etc ) then i would be keen to see a list of those items.

Sorry about your past experience here mrhaboobi - glad you came back.

I've been toying around with selling off my main collections (TG & PC-FX) for a long while now.  The main reason I've not taken any action on this is because of my loyalty to the site and community I have built & supported over the years.  Being who I am, everyone expects me to have everything and more - but recently my wife and I have been seriously thinking of having a child and due to now having to pay for 2 mortgages, I've decided to unload some of my collection to help out financially and to make room in our house (my game collection takes up an entire bedroom which the wife would like back).

I do have various loose bits (manuals, game sleeves, boxes, etc) that I'll unload at some point as well (most likely on the forums).  All I can say right now is to keep watch on the forum.

Heh, that "right price" question on Magical Chase amuses me. If your price really is "right", then no one would be able to beat you if you entered it as a bid. Smells like an inept attempt at a scam to me.

I really didn't know just how high Magical would go - I was hoping at least maybe 2K so I am fortunate that it ended even higher than that.  I was also fortunate that I didn't have many (if at all) joke bidders which I appreciate.

Hey pcenginefx

Is it possible to send offers on items you haven't put for auction yet?

(Can't believe I didn't come up with this sooner.  ](*,))

No, was thinking instead waiting three days and go through a bidding war, everyone could put in their offers for the items they want and pcenginefx sells off a ton of games in one swoop.

I had the auction bookmarked just to see what it would end at. At first I was skeptical on whether it was legit but then I noticed it was Aaron selling it. Congrats on getting more than you wanted.

Only problem is then Aaron has a ridiculous amount of PM's  to go thru vs checking a thread.

He's selling his collection for money, not for shiggles and gits.  The current auctions help maximize his take (how are bidding wars bad for the seller?) and maintain transparency, forestalling accusations of unfairness.

And you doubt anyone here is going to give a good price for a slice of his collection?  Besides auctions only help get the high marks when its comes to ultra-rare games, which are up on Ebay already. If he wanted to make the most of his collection, then why isn't he putting them up as BINs w/BO or set reserve prices for his auctions. Not to say, he doesn't need the money but doubt he's someone who obsessively squeezing every penny he can get. So how is it any different taking up offers, whose threads are posted regularly on every vg site? Where you can review offers, potentially sell off games as lots, moving stuff faster and getting money quicker.

I'll answer your question by repeating my previous question: how are bidding wars bad for the seller?  Are you trying to say that you wanted to avoid 'em in hopes of paying more money?  Don't make me laugh.

Starting at $1 with no reserve is the absolute fairest way to run an auction.  For truly desirable goods there's no need to set reserve prices, as they'll garner plenty of interest and will be bid to respectable amounts (a.k.a. - their true value).

If the only difference between what you propose and how he's currently running auctions is time, then why should he bother changing?  If he wants to sell stuff more quickly, posting multiple threads wouldn't be any greater headache than sifting through a pile of PMs.  What you seem to be asking for is a silent auction, which would be less transparent and undoubtedly lead to complaints of unfairness.

PR- the whole point of what Aaron's doing is to please both parties- himself and us.  Some of the higher sought items like MC are thrown to the lunatics on the bay which gives him a sizable chunk- while he's giving us here a fair shot at some others with pcfx-forum only auctions (Neutopia II, etc.)- and as NecroPhile says it's most fair to all parties involved if we can actually SEE what's going on.  That's how an AUCTION works.  What you're proposing leaves people hoping to get an item for a fair price zero shot at doing so- and creates confusion as no one knows what the high bid currently is.  You're saying it'd be best for Aaron but as I said- the auctions held HERE are for our benefit- not his.  If he wanted the highest price on every item then it would all go onto the Bay with reserve prices fixed.  He's doing the majority here a favor by offering PCFX forum members some games from his pristine collection starting at $1- he doesn't have to.

Essentially- Aaron's trying to do something nice for the community here- and you want to ruin it.

If you say "well I mean only the items he plans on throwing on EBay"- I'm sure that Aaron hasn't fully made up his mind yet on what items are being sold there or here- why not just take a breather- relax- watch it all unfold like the rest of us- bid where appropriate and stop trying to call the pace.  Mmmkay?

You have to look at it this way Press.  People here are touchy about games that are bought and sold, some of us have found out the hard way.  By offering the games the way that he has it keeps him clear of people getting super pissed at him.  It's a touchy balance and granted it is his website, if he pisses everyone off, they may not stick around.

I'm sure he will answer you though.

Oh no. The problem is they're being too presumptuous in thinking they ARE Aaron's opinion. Guys, Aaron's a big boy. He can speak for himself. It was a simple suggestion, I would've backed off if Aaron said 'no'. Drop the drama and move on.

As their on more than Aaron they voiced their opinion.  You're on a forum, people voice their opinions (and as they've both been here long enough, and actually dealt with Aaron) they have a basis for their opinions.   I'm sure Aaron will answer directly when he can, but to expect everyone to not comment until he does, and only HE has the right to comment is ridiculous.  Seeing as a mod (nat) see's their opinions as valid also...why don't you jump on him to...

PR made his peace with this- and yet he's been carrying on with this even after a moderator came on and had his say.

Show me where I called you a cheater -- what I said was "So basically you want to cheat others out of a chance of bidding eh?"- that's not the same as calling you a cheater.  As of now you haven't been successful of cheating anyone out of anything.  You'd LIKE to be- in my opinion- but that just makes you a wannabe cheat.  If you get your way- and I don't think you will- then you'd have successfully found a way to circumvent the auction rules that Aaron already posted- in hope of it benefitting you over others here- and you'd be a full-fledged cheater.

Other than that- why do you feel like "crap"?  If someone accused me of something that I knew wasn't true- I may think that person a shit heel- but surely there'd be no reason for me to feel low about myself- unless of course the person was right- and I felt a bit guilty.

Neither me nor NecroPhile ever came out pretending to be Aaron's mouthpiece- You don't what you're talking about.  We represent ourselves and what we feel is best and fairest for the community- we gave our reasonings as to such- for which you really didn't respond well to- what you did was attempt to stuff words in our mouths ("cheater" and us proclaiming ourselves Aaron's Opinion), cry about hurt feelings, carry on and on even after a mod chimed in, tried to say that our opinions didn't matter- I mean it's funny that you name yourself press_run because it really seems like we've pushed your button.

And yeah- we're all glad that Nat's a mod- join the club pal.
