Title: Football games on PCE
Post by: Spector on 06/29/2009, 08:00 PM
I was so disappointed with Formation Soccer as a one player game. It appears to have been programmed by someone who has never actually heard of football, so lacking is it in intuitive gameplay. I have been heartened by the quality of Final Match Tennis though, and I'm sure there must be other decent sports sims out there.

So here's the big question - is there a good football (soccer to you philistines) game on the PC Engine? Cause Formation Soccer it ain't!

I've never enjoyed football on the telly, so I sure as heck wouldn't waste time with football on the PC Engine.

Just kidding :). Actually, no, I'm not. I never had fun with soccer games....

Final verdict: The PCE doesn't have any good soccer games.

I'm not sure about better, but, you can try Formation Soccer 95, J League 11, J League Tremendous, Kunio's Soccer(Hotblood High School Soccer), Power Eleven, & Tecmo World Cup Super Soccer.

yeah..the PCE is not the best sport-sim platform out there.

and that is something good.

Formation Soccer '95 is more than a decent game. It is at least as good as ISS for the SNES or Fifa for the Genesis.

I have Formation Soccer On J-League (basically Formation Soccer '94) and I quite like it. Its not hyper real or anything, but generally speaking any sports game made for the PCE had to be hyper un-real to actually be fun. It took at least until the PS1 era for someone to make a sports game that was both realistic and fun. Same goes for driving games. in 2D sports games are best when they are unreal; Super Baseball 2020, Nintendo Ice Hockey, Super Dodgeball, etc.
