Some friends told me that they found a mame rom of Gunhed. It appears that there was an arcade system based on a turbografx and made by United Amusement, a bit like Nintendo's Playchoice. Have you heard of such a thing?
Looked up United Amusement over on KLOV and there were only 3 arcade games listed from them but no Turbografx arcade machine shown.
There was no info on the 3 arcade listed from them so maybe there could be a T-16 arcade machine floating out there somewhere.
It exists! Some dude on here acquired the components of one. To my knowledge, they were sold as kits containing the marquee, cpo and jamma board (which looked like a naked Pc-Engine getting butt-raped by a jamma harness.) I'm too lazy to search for the dudes thread, but its somewhere on this forum.
Edit: found it

Years ago, I lost an auction for a TG16-cum-Jamma kit (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=1012.0) that was, indeed, commercially released.
Read through the thread if you want a play-by-play as the drama unfolded.
And for the folks who want to read the documentation:
TurboGrafx-16 Installation Guide and Service Manual for Coin Operation (https://reference.tg-16.com/TG16_arcade_manual.pdf)
Some juicy excerpts:
QuoteDear Operator:
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
And welcome to the world of TurboGrafx-16, the Next Generation in video game technology.
Your TURBOGRAFX-16 purchase represents the first step down a road which promises to return profits from your video game operations. We salute you for your wisdom of your choice, and we thank you for your business.
...and go to page 12 of the .pdf to see what the kit included. It's pretty standard.
Thanks for your fast repies ;)
but that means that there are not special turbo roms for that system. just the normal us turbo chips.
Wow that is cool that they would have something like that for the arcades maybe someone should let KLOV know about this.
Was this released in the U.S.? Or was this more for a overseas market?
I do recall playing KCKC on a playchoice-type arcade cabinet in Korea long, long time ago (over 20 years ago). Each credit bought you certain amount of minutes before the machine started beeping and would ask for more coins.
in technical point of view, the pce 2 jamma (as well sfc, md 2 jamma) board is just the same, not?
Lots of console games got turned into arcades unofficially. I remember some Genesis variations and once played a SMB2 NES arcade.
Is it this?

Is that Rush Limbaugh?
Nice pictures! It actually reminds me of an article in a French magazine back in 1990!

if it is, I will find every copy of power league I can and destroy them.
Hell, I might do that even if it isn't him.

Hey, you gotta tell us the source of those images! I saw them before (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?msg=51323), many moons ago, but they were never credited.
:)
I scanned those from a Videogames & Computer Entertainment magazine a long time ago. I don't remember the issue #, though. Sometime in 1990, I believe.

Thanks! Just knowing the publication is extremely helpful.
Of course, this resolutely confirms that I don't have that particular issue of VG&CE, dammit.

Hi!
First post from me, a relatively new collector from Sweden, with the intention to build my own jamma adapter to my RGB modded consoles (Core & DUO-R).
Anyway, the link doesn't seem to be working anymore - did anyone here download the pdf and would be willing to mail it to me?
Regards,
Håkan

Hey, sorry about that. It is fixed now.
Believe it or not, it was a silly mistake (.PDF instead of .pdf)
Enjoy :)

No problem. My favorite part of the manual is the section where it promises that the operator will make a major return on his investment. We are talking $$$$$$$$$.
Back from the dead..
I got one of these units in....
Just hooked up the video since the controller connection is a different plug size, didnt hook up the audio yet (just two wires) or coin control (again two wires) but set it to free play and adjusted the video to look perfect....

Yeah, my max bid was $100, and I was instantly outbid. And so, with a heavy heart, I knew that this item had evaded me a second time.
The amazing thing, though, is that I was able to remember my username/password to ebay.
Here are some Feb 1990 VG & CE Scans re: the Turbo arcade unit - Forgive me if these have already been posted.
Here's a little project that I'm now trying to complete because of this inspiring post .. I managed to hookup my Tg16 setup onto my custom Mame arcade cabinet that I built a few years back .. The only problem is I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to hookup my Tg16 to the Mame cabs joysticks .. What do you guys suggest I should try out to tackle down this project ?? If you guys know of any links for a Playstation to Tg16 controller adapter that would be perfect .. I wired up my joysticks with Playstation controller adapters since that seems to be the most universal controller port that people use on retro consoles at times ...

Here ya go: http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=57
OMG I had no idea that jamma board existed! I want one!! XD
We had used to have a couple of these in our mini arcade (arcade had roughly 12machines) at he store I had used to work at back in the Day :D
For some reason it made me smile that the cheats worked
I have been looking for one for a while. Only thing is I will also have to get a cab ;-)
i have a few tototek converters they work a charm but some times you get a game that wont work mainly on the megadrive and famicom, as for street fighter support it dose work but only 3 button and 1 to change from kicks to punches.
