What a complete load of trash! Good story or not, when I "attack" something, I wanna F@ckin attack it! Not hit a text box that's labeled attack.

Inanimate enemies, "battling like every two steps you take? Maybe its my ADD, but no thank you.

I didn't start liking RPGs at all until like five years ago. I've had a Turbo since 1990, but I never touched RPG-anything on the console until recently, Ys included.

Well they stem from pen and paper RPGs, which then spawned the likes of Wizardry and Ultima, so.... I guess all I can say is if you want action, play an action game, lol.

Ok.

I don't hate RPGs but I find the excessive grind and random battles of some games get in the way of the story.

Xanadu is the greatest RPG for the PCE. Perhaps the greatest game eVaR. :twisted:

I like them fine, but I haven't really played them for a long time. The only RPG I've played in the last 10 years, if not more, was Zelda: A Link to the Past for the GBA SP. I'm just starting on Ys and it's taking me a little bit of getting used to.

Actually, command-based RPGs are pretty much the most relaxing kind of games you can ever play on a console.  At least you're given a chance to strategize against the enemy with commands rather than rely on snap decisions from action games. 

And in all honesty, as long as there is a market for these kinds of games, they'll just continue to be made.

I hate most "new" rpg's.  I always liked the cliche old school RPG's, but even being cliche quite a few had really innovative ideas.  Most new ones are just about graphics and not about the battle system or story so they get really boring and I end up losing interest. The only next gen rpg that I have really liked and sat down to play was Blue Dragon a couple years ago.  The only RPG with a great battle system that I really really liked was Grandia III.  To me it has the most innovative and fun battle system out of any rpg I'vep played in a long ass time.  I can understand how some might not like RPG's with all the grinding and slow paced "action", but it is just as simple as the saying goes..."don't like rpg's just don't play them"

Don't care about the battle system. Just give me decent hand drawn characters and a good story with plot twists, and if you hate RPG's you have no imagination or dreams in your life and probably weren't hugged as a kid by your parents  :)

Yea, I get it, "don't like em, don't play em" and I. don't play em, I guess its my short attention span coupled with time restraints for gaming.

I was in a pissy mood the day I posted that, so I had vent somewhere, poor rpgs :(

Command-based RPGs are second to KOEI-style turn based strategy games in terms of relaxation.
