I've bought a whole truckload of some SCART switcher boxes to sell on eBay but they ain't selling. On taking them apart to potentially strip for components, I have discovered the 8PDT switch inside, the switch that is needed by many for the region mod. I've heard of power issues with the IC mod, saying that I have never had the power issues, however if you've had such issues I guess this is some solution for you.
These would of course be salvage parts and be desoldered off the board but I'm guessing this is no issue to most. They are off new, unused boxes so no wear and tear. I have over 100 of them available. Anyone interested? These are coming of course from the UK but if I have enough demand I can ship a box over to the USA to be redirected - less shipping costs for you. I'll probably put them on eBay too.
Howdy-
I got my own 8PDT switch & just performed the region mod yesterday. I don't, however, have the panel-mount nut for the switch. Do you happen to have that nut, & does it look like an M12x0.7 thread?
Thanks,
-Jason

I'm necroposting - but I'm in this exact situation. I'm also just looking for that extra panel-mount nut. Anyone have a spare lying around?
Go to radio shack and buy yourself a cheap on/off toggle switch. It will have the nut you need.
I bought a bag of them from Radio Shack. It would cost me more to ship one to someone than for you just to go to Radio Shack and pick one up yourself.
I'll go check out a radio shack equivalent here, and see if I can find one...
The radio shack by me also had a giant bag of assorted nuts but none of them were the correct threading so don't be fooled. Only the toggle switches Radio shack sell have the correct nuts for the job. Believe me, I also had tried 3 different hardware stores before hand. Menards, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware and none of them had the correct nut for the treading of the 8DPT switch.

This just isn't true unless the Shack has changed their inventory in the last few years (completely possible). I used to do these mods for people, and the bag of nuts that I bought from them fit the 8DPT switch perfectly.
It's completely possible they no longer carry that size, however, or perhaps your branch doesn't carry them. I'll see if I can find the bag that has the part # on it, but there's a good chance I threw it out long ago.
EDIT: Aha! I actually kept the bag. The part # is 64-3020, it is a bag of 23 nuts. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103304) The bags contain three different sizes, and one of them is correct. The webpage says it should still be available at most branches.
Nat knows his nuts. Do not argue.
reminds me of the best Kung Pow quote. Thats a lot of nuts!!!!!!
