Title: Anyone else a Tricky Kick fan?
Post by: ShinobiMan on 09/08/2010, 10:36 AM

Ah... Tricky Kick. It's one of those games that I love (well, the concept anyway) but it's so difficult I can't play it. I can maybe beat a few of the early puzzles, but it just gets royally hard afterwards. Anyone a fan of this game? Has anyone actually beaten it? I'd love to hear some stories.

I don't really care for it.  It's too tricky for me, and I end up having to cheat to get anywhere.

I have really no experience with it, I just wish IGS would have kept supporting the Turbo in the states.  One of my fav games of theirs is Sonic Spike!!  Would have loved to see more from them.  :D

I love this game.  It's a tricky game, obviously HENCE THE NAME.

but, I have completed it twice.  I like these kinds of puzzle-games though.

If you don't like it 2-3 levels in, you never will, so don't play it unless you want to torture yourself.

this game and boxyboy kicked ass

Tricky Kick, hmm is that part of or the beginning of the Kick series of games in the PC Engine universe?

ya know-
Tricky Kick, KickBall, and then of course Chip Chan Kick on the PCFX!

lol- chip chan was some pretty great puzzling.  Its too bad more of that happiness wasn't on the PCFX to really show off what it could do.

One of my favorite games on PCE is KickBall.  Anyone else play this?  Its crazy fun!  My team is the shubibinman men.  Then a close second would be the wallruss' people team.  They kick ass!

I'd love to play in a KickBall tournament someday.

There were puzzles in chip chan kick?

Uh?

Don't forget the awesome puzzling action found in Andre Panza Kickboxing.  That shit's the bees' knees.

Bubble Bobble's a puzzle game?

yes, wait... what?  yes.  That's what I've always called them.  Bubble Bobble, Nightmare in the dark, Buster Bros.  Yea, aren't they usually listed as puzzle type games?

I don't think so.  Aren't they just action games?

There are no puzzles or much thinking involved in Buster Bros, Bubble Bobble, or any of those games.

You just shoot shit with whatever weapon the game theme gave you, and hope you dont die, usually to the loopy, happy music.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_puzzle_video_games  wiki says buster bros is a puzzler.  but Bubble Bobble isn't listed....

so according to them you guys are half wrong.  :P

Maybe I'm thinking puzzle/strategy or something.... I dunno.

I always classified games like bubble bobble, Dr. Mario, Bomberman, and Lemmings all together.... is that wrong?

And just for the record I like Andre Panza!  alot!  I liked the game on SNES(as Best of the Best) but really grew attached to the TG16 version with the awesome career and create a fighter modes.  Wasted a few great hours on that bad boy.

More reason TG>SNES  lmao

That is some mental shit.

Whats next, Contra is a puzzler?

what is the puzzle in buster bros?

WHICH BUBBLE AM I SHOOT NEXT? THE BIG RED ONE, OR MAYBE THE LITTLE BLUE ONE?

Coming from a programmer of puzzle games you should know ;)

There's strategy involved in Buster Bros., but where's the puzzle?

Yes, I should know that buster bros, etc. arent puzzle games.

There is a reason bubble bobble spawned a series called Puzzle Bobble.

BECAUSE BUBBLE BOBBLE WASN'T A PUZZLE GAME.

its an action game.

That was sarcasm, you've proven that you don't know whit.  Bubble Bobble was a strategy/puzzle game.  Action game?  Action?  Like Contra?

Next your gonna pull some shit saying Alice in Chains was alternative rock.

:D

your wit is buried in a sea of confusion.  I can't help that.

There is no puzzle in bubble bobble.  Every level is the same thing with different platforms to hop on.

If contra was single screen but the same kind of game (shoot aliens) it could be called ALIEN BOBBLE.

what about single screen action games, like Yars revenge, Berzerk, space invaders?  ARE THEY STRATEGERY TOO?

or some shit.

long story short, Wikipedia is wrong and anyone who trusts it 100% is a fool that can't think for themselves.

Fuck conventions.  I win.

Indeed; PCECP, PCE Daisakusen!!, and the PC Engine Bible say Buster Bros. is an action game, so why believe a wiki page, especially when the page specifically for Buster Bros. makes no mention of the word 'puzzle'?

lol, its pretty much an age old question.  Regarding what actually defines a "puzzle" or strategy or action game.

Couldn't Tetris be considered an action game?  I'm making an action moving the pieces from the left to right.

I've never really put much focus on classifying puzzle or strategy games.  I've always just stashed them together in my collections..lol
Title: Re: Anyone else a Tricky Kick fan?
Post by: Arkhan Asylum on 09/08/2010, 04:55 PM
the primary focus of tetris is the puzzle/thinking element.

if you focus on just the action and slam pieces around like a tard, you'll never see the St. Basil's cathedral take flight at the end.

The first two boards were probably the hardest... Not because they're actually all that hard, but because it takes those two levels to finally figure out how to "think" to be successful in the game.

I'm sad to say I've never even played it.

I just watched Starsoldier1's YouTube review (which is hilarious, thanks to him) and the game looks Japanese. Does it have a PC Engine releases, and if so, what's the name?

Tricky Kick didn't do it for me.  Easily one of my least favorite games in the TG16 library.

It seemed like more of a chore to play than fun, which is always a fine line that is walked with puzzle games.

SO this may be a necro-bump But, I do in fact LOVE tricky kick and I'm sure there are some new members out there who also love tricky kick.
Game has several very bright points for me:

1. I like the music, not fantastic but solid
2. I love the little cut scenes
3. I enjoy the strange anime styling of the game
4. I like the "thinking" and learning curve that is required to figure out the tricky puzzles in the game.  The idea of matching and squashing is something I always thought unique and different.

Not for everyone, but everyone should give at least two levels a try.  This one might surprise you, if you have not tried it out.

Good necro-post!  This game is a hoot.  I haven't been able to beat more than 2 or 3 of any of the stages for each character, but I think it's a great puzzle game.
