Great ad.  It's probably the only Turbob ad that didn't have preppy douchebags with forced smiles.

Now if all of NECs adds back then were that cool the Turbo might have had better luck in NA.

Love Splatterhouse to this day. I remember how edgy it was when it released too...such a cool game to shock people with back in the day LOL.


As for the ads that the Turbo had:

1. Tons of places in the country never seemed to even see them run, while Genesis ads were plenty
2. Most were horribly cheesy


Also the box art for the US were generally pretty lame...they should have just ported the box art from Japan.

Nostalgia and the fact that its well made, makes it my favorite TG-16 commercial.

I didn't know that the TG-16 even existed until about a year after the genesis, the lack of advertisement and the 8bit thing,which didn't work on me....because I'm not retarded, really hurt the system in the US.

I'll take the US version.  It has an appropriately dark and spooky vibe, rather than just weird like the PCE version.  I mean, why is there a little girl and why is she wearing the Terror Mask?

I liked em both the same.  In the japanese ver. you get to see the game more but the us was more bad ass.  either way Im greatful for u putting it up.  Its def one of my favorite games of all times.  I gotta play it this week!!

I cleared Splatterhouse this month for exactly the occasion  :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Splatterhouse was my second "clear" for the PCE. I like the US commercial more though. It has that 80s vibe to it that I enjoy.

Definitely one of the more grim/bad-ass video game commercials I remember from childhood.

The US one shows almost NO game and the terror mask is a red leather gimp mask. How can that be better?

I thought it was a red mask in U.S. and a white one in Japan because of copyright problems with "Jason" in Friday the 13th, they thought by porting it with a red mask to U.S. they would be protected from getting sued.

This is correct. The boss fight in the church was also toned down in the Turbo version. This is why I prefer the PCE version over the US release.

For the game itself, there's no question: PCE version > US version all the way.  The creators clearly put the white hockey mask for that "Jason" feel - it just doesn't work the same if the mask is red.  And boo to the other censors as well.

But as for the ad, the US ver > JP version.  It does a much better job of creating a tense atmosphere, which is a lot cooler than just random scenes from the game.  And I didn't understand what the hell the girl was trying to say in the Japanese ad -- oddly enough, I had to read the Japanese subtitles to understand what she was saying in (strange) English!

Thanks for posting the commercials.  Splatterhouse is one of my all time favorites.  Somehow I never seen these commercials before.  I like the JP commercial a bit more due to the music.

anyways, did u guys know Namco is doing a SplatterHouse 3 for the current systems? Looks God of War-ish.

Splatterhouse 3 came out on the Genny. The new one is more of a remake of the original game I think.

hehe the US one has this low budget Freddy's Nightmare feel to it which is so bad that it's good!

I assumed this game would be terrible, but the trailer actually looks pretty solid.

Once I finally get Splatterhouse 2 for a decent price on Genesis, I will look into getting this.  By that time, hopefully this game is in the bargain bins!

Agreed, although the hockey mask pre order bonus is tempting. But too many games coming out right now.

Considering how big Namco has gotten, there's not much of a chance it would suck too bad. I'm sure they got the talent to crank out a worthy continuation of the franchise.

Splatterhouses 1-3 have all been confirmed to be included in the upcoming "remake"

It's the #1 reason I am getting it...makes the purchase much easier for me, cuz at least I won't be disappointed by the originals.
