So I heard that if you want to order ANYTHING from Japan to U.S. over 1 pound that it can NOT be shipped EMS (expressMailServices) Air mail and it must ONLY be shipped be sea. That is crazy!! That takes a really long time. This is effective today. Make sure you are only paying for Sea mail when ordering.
Also....If you are ordering from China to U.S. they have a 21 day hold to inspect from customs before it is shipped.
This is all from the bomb plot discovery recently. It will really effect a lot of orders. If you guys are planning on ordering a few games or console/accessories than it may take a lot longer than you thought.
--Just wanted to give you guys a heads up when ordering Christmas presents.
well, indeed that really does blow. eeesh.
so much for repairing my Rising Stuff order...
supposedly the big proxi services [SMJ, Celga, Rinkya] won't be affected by this. It mainly restricts individuals, not businesses. But yeah, everything is gonna' sit in customs forever now. Definitely sucks.
Goddamn terrorists gotta ruin it for everyone else! Next time i get probe searched at an airport, i'm gonna yell out "DAMN YOU BIN LADENNNN!!!!!!!!"
(not to say i got searched before...ever )
Does anyone have a link? This kind of sounds real, but also kind of sounds like bullshit.
Besides limiting the shipping of toner cartridges and barring shipments out of Somalia and Yemen, no other changes have been made in US Homeland Security rules, so the Japanese are overreacting. Certain businesses seem to be exempt, so it may not matter; but if all else fails, send your stuff to a Canuck for forwarding.

Also check Rising Stuff Store update page here.. http://www.risingstuff.com/
And I have a store in China I order from that told me about the 21 day customs hold for everything in their country.
It's real,... but it may be temporary but probably for at least 6 months to a year if not longer.
Talk about a knee jerk reaction, so this is just going to affect shipments to the US? Then again I can see our poxy british government doing the same... like our customs laws wern't craptacular enough as it was :(
Lame... but I guess if there is legitimate fear of mailed bombs, then I suppose me waiting is okay.
Still lame though.
I won a couple Yahoo Japan auctions about a month ago, and they just got to Goody today. Goody did inform me about the new delay in shipping, so it looks like I won't be getting the stuff until January or February. At least with Goody, I can still get insurance on SAL shipping. Good news is I bought the Xmas stuff domestically, and it arrived today! So hopefully someone will get a TurboGrafXmas!
You might want to make sure that insurance will be an option from your international seller because some sellers won't purchase insurance on SAL shipping - a huge bummer.
Thanks for the warning, I had no idea this was happening.
Indeed, although it wasn't much of a warning-- apparently this is now already in effect.
I wonder how this might affect the short term pricing of Japanese stuff?
Does this only affect the shipping of goods to the US? I'm thinking that other countries, like where I am in Australia, may not be affected by this.
Road-Apples!
FUCK
The terrorists win again! We'll bend over backwards and change everything for the worse out of fears of terrorism. Look at the new TSA bullshit that's going on. Sure, the terrorists aren't physically destroying much, but they are taking away our freedoms anyway. And we let them.

When I go to the airport, I am 100% okay with any security measures. Especially since I fly to NYC all the time, I like feeling safe.

Yes this is for stuff with a final destination in the U.S.
As far as I know you (Australia) can order EMS airmail from Japan at any weight over a pound to Australia. And the 21 day hold in China is also only for items with a final destination in the U.S. which is from U.S. customs not Chinese customs.
This seems like It will affect many items on Ebay from Japanese sellers. They will have to change all the shipping info. Yikes.

Actually, it's not that bad. Sellers with a business account with their post office are still able to send goods as per normal. Big sellers such as Hit-Japan won't be affected by this at all, they can still ship to the US.
It's more a problem for non-businesses/individuals who are selling on eBay. I've already noticed a few listings that state that they can only ship to the US via surface mail, which takes around 2 months.
Thank god one does not live in the US...! :-"
crazy... will see if it takes any longer to get here to cold Canada as i have shit on the way....this may fuck up some of our secret santas... its like they knew!!!!

Why wouldn't Rising Stuff have a business account for shipping? They seem like more of a business than an ebayer.

It probably has to do with volume.
more of the same info... http://youtu.be/RyijnQU6whs

Actually, Rising Staff is more of a hobby ran by one or two individuals. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it explains why they wouldn't have a registered account with their post office.
Yeah I understand that now. Like NecroPhile said, It's about volume. Im sure that some Ebayers sell way more than rising stuff.

That's a false sense of security you've got there as the TSA has never thwarted a terrorist plot. Bad guys get by them all the time, it's only when the FBI/CIA/whathaveyou calls the airline direct before it takes off is the bad guy escorted off the plane. Even the DO NOT FLY list isn't effective when in the hands of the TSA and instead many good guys are not allowed to fly. In any other situation, what the TSA does to you would be considered molestation.
so single JP games aren't an issue because that is less than a pound. But bigger items or bulk sales could be an issue.

I hate flying in general, so I will take any sense of security I can, even if false.
This affects my potential acquisition of a Duo-R :(
I am glad I got one when I did!

Just in time to cancel my order and not get fucked anally by shipping
This is going to shut their doors

If you want to cancel your order just email me about it. It probably won't run you too much more since your order is pretty light, but I totally get that you might want to cancel it. This really, really sucks.
Sensei can you guys get a deal where shipping wont be a hassle for you?
Quote from: Duo_R on 11/26/2010, 12:46 PMSensei can you guys get a deal where shipping wont be a hassle for you?
No, we don't sell enough stuff to qualify for any of the exceptions. We can still sell to any other country without problems and most of our orders come from outside the US anyway but it still is a pretty big blow to us. Hopefully it's temporary but it is really hard to know.

well Alex sent me an email that I'd owe like an extra 100something dollars to ship my stuff, and considering I was supposed to have had this stuff about a year ago... I'm gonna have to pull the plug on that.
he said he would bring the items himself over to the US on the 15th and mail domestically, but quite honestly, I don't trust Alex to successfully accomplish that.
I can confirm that HIT-Japan can send things fast. My brother just got a PC Engine Duo-r today from them. Received it in just 4 days.
Some good news: They've already lifted the ban: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20101202a1.html
Foreigners can once again send xmas presents home.
sweet, good thing I cancelled the order and im sure my stuff was immediately lost or sold to someone else.

That's great!! I thought that would last for 6 months if not more. Glad to hear it's back to normal.
=D> =D> =D>
Just think of all the terrorism it prevented while it was in place. Thousands of people are alive today due to the quick actions of those who would not have Japan ship us anything weighing more than a pound.
So does this mean shipping costs go up and delivery time is longer?

In other words, yeah, it will cost more and take longer.
i just got a sgx in the mail and it took less than a week from japan

How did you know?
Rising Stuff is closing!
-Not sure if it had to do with the temporary rules applied to shipping weight......But I just looked for some games on their website and it says they (RisingStuff Store) are closing the store at end of January :(. That sucks! I never had a chance to order from them . Actually... some of the games look like they are marked down and actually almost a fair price if you order before end of January.
Just figured it would. But with the ban lifted they are still shutting down looks like.
They shut down cause they didn't have the time to run the store.
I haven't noticed an issue with Japan post yet. It's the UK that's gotten hit hard by delays for me.
QuoteI haven't noticed an issue with Japan post yet. It's the UK that's gotten hit hard by delays for me.
Japan shipping is back to normal now 1/20/2011. It was a temporary thing that was delaying and restricting things for about a month or so around Christmas time.
