The title is self explanatory. I finally found a WORKING Turbo Duo. I want to KEEP it working. Now, I've heard a lot of things about this but so many people have different opinions on the matter.
So, I ask the experts here. What should I know about the Duo that will help me in the future. Known problems. Where to go to get it fixed. Places to go for games. Etc. Etc. ANYTHING that I need to know.
You've come to the right place. :)
There are many people here who will be willing to answer your questions. Try the tech forums for Duo issues and how to keep it working and check the sales/trade pages for games. Avoid eBay if possible.
chop5 or BlueBMW are usually in chat and can answer your repair questions.
also check:

... and welcome to the fold.
Thank you! I'm hoping to be active here a lot since this Duo is basically my gem here. lol
#1 thing to know: Don't waste money on US versions of games unless they have loads of text.
Here's one good question: Anyone know where I can find a HuCard adapter that works with the Duo?

Look up the member chop5 he sells the homemade converter the chopsado.
Also, keep in the mind when the sound breaks down in a (turbo-duo) it's time to have it's capacitor's replaced.
Welcome!
You could always get a Japanese Core Grafx unit too to play your Japanese Hu Cards. They are probably cheaper than an official converter and are a nice addition to your collection. If you do, look for the gray system. The white ones are cool too but only have rf output.
Welcome!!! Yeah ya prolly should just get a mod or do it yourself. This is def the place to be.
Welcome aboard!

They're a pain in the butt and too expensive, so I vote for a region mod or another console; but if you simply must have an adapter, telegames had 'em relatively cheap last I checked.
QuoteWhat Should I Know?
You've just achieved gaming perfection. That's what.
Chop's choppsado adapters allow for excellent play of import games on US systems. I used them (yes I had a couple) for a year before finally getting a modded system. If you don't have the time/ skills/ money for a mod, just PM and get some chopsados. They are super easy to use, and work really well.
I'm pretty sure they are still going cheap when chop has some available... usually just wants a couple bucks each or some common games for trade. I think I sent 'em a couple genesis commons for two adapters.
in this video, I show how the chopsado works - http://youtu.be/tu5yw6iGpdc I show it around the 4 minute mark.
Fortunately, its a Duo, so you can play CD games no matter what.
That means you can load up on the sweet ass shooters.
Welcome to the fold my man! Turbo collectors are a passionate bunch. If you have the bread, buy games in lots to amass your collection quickly. Lots of great deals can be found in our sales tread as well.

There never was such a thing as an official converter. That wouldn't even make any sense.

it would be a good idea to get the Caps replaced, you might also want to consider a region switch and and getting the laser replaced.

I think what he means is the "official" ones. Over time, the ones with names have become "official" nonsense to us.
or something.
Buy Fray. Its the best part of Owning a DUO!
the best part of having a duo is wishing you had a duo r :P Yeah I trolled

CAUSE YOURE A TROLLING DOUCHE
I would advise a few things early in your Duo ownership...
1: If your system is working perfectly right now.... have your capacitors changed as soon as possible. If you wait until it fails, other things get damaged and arent always repairable. All these systems are 18+ years old now and capacitor failure is pretty much imminent if not already present.
2: I would advise the region switch mod over a converter card. The switch is simple and reliable, while the converter cards can be finicky to use and are rumored to cause problems with your hucard slot (apparently they bend the pins as they are too thick or something)
Otherwise, welcome to the fun!
What Blue said about the capacitors is true. The first generation Duos contain capacitors that have a design flaw. It's not a matter of IF they will fail, only when. There's a high probably they've already started to leak and just aren't manifesting symptoms yet.
christ.. now i am worried about mine... i play my TG16 CDROm system more to preserve my duo :( <<sips wine and fires up the Duo>>

drunken Duo playing.
GET SOME.
The true sign of an awesome console and library is that you can enjoy it sober or otherwise... This system fits that bill to a "T".

If you're concerned Sparky, shoot me a PM.

Thanks for all the advice so far. About the caps and region mods, who would I contact here to get it done and how much would it set me back?
Myself and chop5 do the capacitor changes (I believe there are others too, just not sure who is actively offering them right now) I do the region mods as well, but I'm out of IC mod boards right now (have some on order) So it may be a bit before I can offer that service also.
I generally don't charge squat to do em :P Its more of a community service. I usually just charge return shipping + the cost of parts (usually $10 or so for capacitors, and about $15 or so for region mods) It takes me about 3 to 4 hours to do a capacitor swap and another hour and a half or so to do a region mod. I should be caught up enough to do another duo here in about a months time if you want to contact me then! In the mean time, play the junk out of that duo!

Well, just let me know.
In reading this thread, I may ask for a region mod of my TG-16.
I will pay you for your time...I believe in paying for quality.
Oh, you really should send me your Duo ASAP!! They are very dangerous, and need to be disposed of properly. I can take care of this matter for you. Make sure you ship it securely...so it doesnt explode..yeah.. Anyway, send it ASAP!!
Hopefully I can offer region mods again here soon. Just need to get more chips in.
Lol nice1
