I'm looking at picking up a jap copy of Forgotten Worlds. Question is do I need to get one with a 3 button controller to get the most out of it?- i've got a Duo RX with the 6 button controller, but I have a feeling that won't cut it.

Whether you're resting two fingers on a III & II button or Run & I, I don't think that it makes much of a difference.
Go for the 3-button, the 6 button isn't 'properly' compatible.
Get the Blaster controller!

True, a 3-button controller isn't essential, but since the Run button has a distinctly different feel (the fact that it is "rubberized", smaller, and a stiffer tension in the spring), I find the 3-button controller to feel much kooler. :)
As I said, it isn't essential, but I guarantee that you'd take the time to switch controllers -- even if you had to climb into the attic and pull it out of storage (as I did recently)! I have a third-party 3 button as well... it feels really sweet as well.
I want to try one of the three button controllers. I saw a three button Blaster controller for go over $20 on Ebay last July/August.
Thanks for the advice- now I just have to justify to the wife why I need a 3-button controller when I have 6 and 2 button controllers already.

You mean like justifying why you must have 2 of the Bomberman head shaped multi-taps for Saturn Bomberman.
Then after you get that one through, you explain how you now need the Bomberman pads to match.
People here are always having to explain stuff to their wives around here and beg if they can have Turbo-related stuff.

Video game stuff is totally trivial... it's tough to justify it when I should be putting it away for my daughter's college fund :(
You get the idea... of course, if I made more money, then that would be a different story :).
Maybe you could convince your child NOT to go to college :D .

Yeah and SFC ones too. And there're also Bomberman pads(at least for Saturn).
Didn't know about those.
