@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

holy shit! I will try this tonight - I was just playing this last night too. Will report back.

I don't doubt this does what it says - I just don't think some of us are the target market. I have a wall of cards and CDs - no need to cheat to play something I don't have r can't afford. Very cool though! I have an AES Neo SD cart and it's amazing.
#53
I'm late to the party on this - but listening today. Thank you!
#54
awesome - downloading this tonight! thanks!

I used to have the "PC-E Game" bootleg of this - later got a legit one, lol. Such a great game, I need to crack it open again soon.

this! Those screens they posted ages ago are still saved on my desktop to drool over every once in awhile.

This thread needs more Power Golf 2!

Honestly, I couldn't get into much other sports games. I do remember putting in some obscene time with the TV sports games when I was much younger*

*stupid

Iga Ninden Gaiou is another one of theirs I keep going back to.

Quote from: guest on 06/01/2017, 02:03 PMSome day I'll learn mahjong.  There's so many of 'em, many with cool looking cut scenes (and tits!).
Exactly why I learned. Some of the best, creative graphics and cutscenes are in mahjong games. Mahjong Hyper Reaction 2 (arcade) made me get off my ass and learn.

www.mahjonginmame.com was how I learned.

I've been in a mahjong mood lately and have been trying to go through and actually finish some of the more long-winded titles.

I feel like I put about 15+ hours [maybe more] into this one and just finished it last night:

SEISENSHI DENSHŌ - JANTAKU NO KISHI

The story seemed to have some decent tongue-in-cheek moments from what I could gather. I felt like it was worth talking about due to the ability to switch characters and use special powers/spells in the middle of a match. Typically, in these games, you buy a power up beforehand and it is activated at the beginning of a round or under some condition around the end of a round. Just hit select during a round and you can switch through all the available characters you have in your party. Some have spells that work in-match and others you have to use beforehand. Puts a cool spin on things.

The graphics were really nice and crispy. It had a bit of a low budget feel which I have found most Nichibutsu mahjong titles have - even in the arcade.

It's def worth a playthrough if you are into mahjong at all. It's actually pretty damn easy as far as mahjong games go.

Gonna' go through the first Jantei Monogatari next. I loved 2 [both chapters] and 3 [they might be my fave mahjong titles on the PCE], but the first one is completely different.

Any other mahjong fans out there?

SuperDeadite did a fairly good overview of the game years back on these forums. Let me see if I can find it.

Edit:  FOUND IT!  https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=3436.msg100518#msg100518
Nice! Thx. Makes me want to do a more classic "review" of power golf 2

Quote from: pixeljunkie on 04/12/2017, 04:47 PMThe RPG elements are superb. Forcing you to manage a job, practicing and entering tournaments at certain dates. It's surprisingly rich in content.
I'm also a fan of PG2 but I never knew there was anything else in it other than pickup game of golf or maybe the tourney mode. I'll have to venture into the other menus after I borrow Null's PCE Mouse.

Dealer at MGC had a copy for $5. I'm sure it could have been haggled for.
It is tournament mode I am talking about. It's fun as you choose to work one day and have no idea how much money you will make [for entering tournaments or buying new clubs] and some days you get slapped with taxes, or have an auto accident and have to pay for repairs. You have to travel from the air port to tournaments which also have color commentary throughout. It's a pretty robust mode considering when it was released and what else was out at the time.

Quote from: guest on 04/12/2017, 04:53 PMDon't forget the FMV.  That's the reason I bought it.

That sounds dumb and super collectarded.... because it is.
hahah it's actually my least favorite aspect...that damn CD accessing pause drives me nuts

pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Power_Golf2.htm

I just felt compelled to rant about this as it's been on my mind.

I have an odd obsession with old school golf games. I have no idea why. I have a pretty massive collection of US/Jpn games across 8/16/32 bit. 16-Bit being my favorite era. I group PCE in with this because it transcends "8-bit".

Power Golf 2 is so far beyond any other game from the era that it isn't even funny. Mario Golf tries to add RPG elements but it gets so cumbersome it detracts from the golf aspect, making it impossible to pick up and pay.

Power Golf 2 is completely playable without knowledge of Japanese as all menus are in english. The RPG elements are superb. Forcing you to manage a job, practicing and entering tournaments at certain dates. It's surprisingly rich in content.

The actual golf gameplay is also excellent. It takes the sim aspect from games like PGA Tour and creates something that doesn't "feel" like a sim. It moves at a decent pace and the presentation is top notch.

I seriously can't say enough good things about this game. It's also damn fun with the mouse. You can get the game for like $5 too. It's just great and I wanted to make a thread [I think I made a similar one years ago - edit: yep, I did] to reiterate it's greatness.

this is exciting! Gotta' get my pipes ready for this.

Louga 2

Also most Riot games had great cut scenes...the games themselves are another issue

Hopefully soon!

I think if TTi had pulled off what they were trying to do with the arcade card and other localizations it could've turned the system around. But ironically japan fucked it up.

Also, had to skip quite a few pages of this since it seemed to be mostly about the youtube guys. I always get amused when people pick sides and talk about these people making videos.

Quote from: exodus on 06/18/2016, 08:52 PMyeah, I see a renny blaster complete on ebay for $285 right now, so less than that I guess!
if you're interested in trading for it, let me know!
Always interested in trades. Whatcha' got? :)
#77
These things are definitely on the chopping block - I just don't know what to ask for them as I've had them forever and don't know what to ask for them.

I know I bought Renny for about $300 - but it seems it might've dropped since the bootlegs came out.
#78
Trying to figure out some prices for some stuff I am thinking of letting go of. I will probably add to this list tonight when I get home.

Sharp Cyberstick - loose
Xhe-3 adapter - boxed
Renny Blaster - complete, no spine
#79
I have finished it - but it was a total fluke accident.

I was playing around with the password function one day and randomly put in a password and the game started?! I played for a like 20 minutes and the score hit all 9's and the ending kicked in.

I forget the exact password - but if I am sitting in front of my screen, I can usually put it in. it was a ton of a's, n's and k's iirc.
#80
I also like TC2 quite a bit actually. I also, paid well under $200 for it eons ago. It's a neat one to pop in every now and then. Just keep your eyes peeled.

seeing as there is a walkthrough for the SNES version...curious how much of it applies (if any) to the PCE version.

Quote from: TurboXray on 12/09/2015, 01:20 PMSpace Harrier doesn't support it, right? It would be nice to hack in analog controls for it. Though I don't own, so I can't test it out. I do have a PCE mouse, which would make SH and other similar games more fun to play IMO (if hacked for it).
no space harrier support, sadly

Quote from: pixeljunkie on 12/08/2015, 01:22 PMSo, I just recently got my hands on a Cyberstick and an XHE-3 and I can't stop playing After Burner 2.
Most people don't know that AB on the PCE supports analog controllers (well, a specific one). Are either one of these two sticks able to run PCE AB in analog controller mode?
Cyberstick does support it...it's an x68k stick..the XHE-3 is the adapter micomsoft made so x68k controllers could be used with the PCE.
#85
Yeah, I've maxed out at Stage 15 so far on AB2. I am gonna' give it another go today and see what I can do. The soundtrack is great as mentioned.

I realllyyyy wish Power Drift worked with the cyberstick. I think analogue controls would help that one. Such an ambitious port.
#86
So, I just recently got my hands on a Cyberstick and an XHE-3 and I can't stop playing After Burner 2. This really takes me back to spending all my birthday cash playing the giant arcade version with the moving seat way back when.

So, how many levels are in the PCE version? It's starting to get really difficult around stage 15 for me.

Quote from: SamIAm on 12/01/2015, 04:47 AMChapters 1, 2, and the prologue are finished and proofread.

Chapter 3 is at about 10%.

Total completion is about 25%, although nothing is in final-draft form.

From now to the end of Chapter 7, things are going to be heavy. I'll try to finish Chapter 7 before January is out, but no guarantees.

I do think this is turning out pretty well, though. I really like the way this game is written and put together. It's never boring to work on.
Thx for the update! It's really fun to follow along with this project. Thanks again for working on this!

Quote from: shawnji on 11/22/2015, 11:20 PMThanks for the words of encouragement, everyone.  I actually finished the game and then started working on a FAQ using GameFAQs' editing tool.  I've gotten the first and second chapters done, but I also did a lot of work on other sections covering things like items, characters, menus, etc...  It shouldn't take too long to finish working on this if I can keep up my current pace, but it'll all depend on how busy my work weeks are and how I feel on my days off.   Still, I've gone ahead and submitted what I have so far to GameFAQs as a "0.01" version so that you can take a look at what's there (as soon as it's approved) until I update it again; which probably won't be until after I get back from Thanksgiving.
so rad! Thanks for doing this, I will DEFINITELY play through it now.

I hate the filtered look. I'd be all in for an HD redrawn version. #necrosaturday

I assumed as much, but in a recent, drunken YAJ binge I noticed them more dramatically.

Don't drink and YAJ kids.
#98
Speaking of the Duo, not the R/RX...the color of the tray release button and even the power button seem to vary wildly among these systems. I assumed it was just aging plastic...but some seem to be legitimately grey while others blue?

Were there variations of these or is this just plastic being dumb plastic?

Clean on Blue looks great for font. This is so rad
