I'm just gonna leave this here in case Tom still wants to do Mega Man 2 CD. Krzysztof made a new version of his Mega Man 2 OST cover.
Can be downloaded in any format (name your price/free) here: https://krzysztofslowikowski.bandcamp.com/album/mega-man-2-guitar-playthrough-2017

That's all fine if I understood what it means. In the notepad it's set to 3 right now. Not sure what the 3 equals. Can I just use 0 to make it unlimited?
No, I believe it's the number of seconds difference between the original track length and the new one.

I didn't mean that you included something from the Mega Man 5 title screen song; I just wanted to show you that remix because it's one of my favorites, haha. What I meant was that you did actually use the stage select from NES Mega Man 5 in your stage select mix. Check it out; it's where they got the Mega Man Soccer song from:

QuoteNice. I don't understand why some games need you to do this and others don't. For example, I took tracks from Lords of Thunder and replaced every song in Sapphire. I also took tracks from Gate of Thunder and replaced every song in Sapphire with those too. Never had to worry about this shit.
The CD_BIOS has a few ways of playing audio tracks.
The first involves playing by a track number (0-99). To do that, the track number has to be converted to an absolute disc adddress.
The second is actually by absolute disc address (since the routine is already available, see above).

Some games use method one; other games use method two. It depends on what the programmers decided when laying out the cd image.
Thanks. So is there any way of getting around this when it wants the tracks to have a certain length?

Quote from: Magister on 02/19/2017, 08:51 PMI should mention that when I used Tocfixer before I changed the length of the music file it said that it was too big of a file and aborted the repair. But, that I could go into Tocfixer's settings and change the size limit allowed or something like that. I've looked and can't figure out where these changes could be done. Of course it did say that it might screw things up if they were changed. But after looking at the length of some of the game tracks, they really aren't that long which sucks.
I never tried it, but all you have to do is open TocFixer.ini with notepad and set "WaveResizeLimitInSeconds=" to whatever you want.

Yeah this is good stuff man. I like the Mega Man 5 in the stage select, Mega Man X mixes, etc. Glad to finally hear it because I remember how you were always talking about it, haha. Are you selling it? When it's all released, I definitely need to make me a copy of Mega Man CD with it.

P.S. check out this Genesis sounding remix for Mega Man 5 into/title:

Quote from: Magister on 02/19/2017, 07:15 PMSo after all the headache, PDragon was right. The track has to be the same length as the original. Now, I did this with the original game file and not the Perfect Arrangement game file. So I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. I do want to look an see if the PA music files stayed the same length or if he extended them when he added the other music.

Quote from: vacantplanets on 02/19/2017, 03:07 PMThat's fine about the zeros. That's what it's supposed to be when it's all extracted like that in a ISO/WAV/CUE format. If it was in a BIN/CUE format, the CUE sheet would look different.

Okay, so I suppose you could try changing the track's length to match the one that was working. If you have to do that, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a 15 second fade out like Paranoia Dragon said. I would just use Audacity to edit the track. It's just the menu music anyway, not a big deal, haha.

Btw, what are you using to test it? Ootake or some other emulator? You're not burning CD-Rs right?
I'm going to try and DL the original game file and try changing some of the music and see what happens. If I get the same results, I'll try matching track times. What I don't understand is why all the music tracks aren't listed for the game. Like the pre-boss room music is awful but it's not a music file.
Sounds good.

The pre-boss room music isn't redbook or from a WAV file; it's a chiptune, PSG. Yeah, I don't like it either. It's an odd choice because it definitely stands out from the other tracks.

Not sure where to find the track times in the CUE file. I try opening the file but it doesn't show anything.
You have to open the cue file with Notepad.

Like I said though, I'll try to figure it out and I'll upload it for you if I can. I have the perfect arrangement version. What track do you want to use as a replacement? The original menu music? Which track number is it?
#10
Well since you have to select the folder your game files are in, it uses that one; it doesn't put the cue in a different folder. To be safe just remove the cue file from that folder and have it generate a new one.

Quote from: Magister on 02/18/2017, 03:55 PMWell, I download Audacity and Tocfixer. Did the whole 44100 and changing the WAV file to 16 bit. Ran the Tocfixer and it shows 19 errors which it mostly all the files but says it changed the CUE file. Music still screws up in the game though. Not sure why it is showing an error for all the other music files considering I only changed one file.
Okay. I don't know what to say. I'll try to figure it out and I'll upload it for you if I can. I have the perfect arrangement version. What track do you want to use as a replacement? The original menu music? Which track number is it?

Btw, it's going to show errors for all the files that aren't the original ones from the game. I just use that program to quickly generate a cue sheet. I never had to worry about the other stuff.

Did you read my post above where I gave you the link? https://www.ysutopia.net/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=4

It couldn't be easier to use. The instructions are literally built in to the program. Download it, run it, and follow the directions. Select "Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rondo (J)", click browse and select your game's folder, then click repair. That's it.

Dragon nailed it. Music plays on the wrong levels, or starts in the middle of the track, or cuts off and starts playing something else.

For Rondo of Blood, I have all the music files in WAV format separate. Then there are two ISO files, a TOC file and the CUE file. I tried to take a music file, change it to WAV and rename it exactly the same as the one I was replacing. It didn't work. I only did this for one music file and yet it messed up all the music in the game. I figured it would have been a simple renaming the new file with the old file name. Guess not that simple.
Did you use TocFixer?

Okay, well I don't know how you're doing it exactly. Let me explain, if the image is in BIN/CUE format, I use IsoBuster to open the CUE file and right click on "session 1" and select "extract session one" then "extract user data" in order to convert the image to ISO/WAV format. Then of course you replace the file you want to change and rename the new 16 bit 44.1 kHz WAV file to match the old one. Now you need a new CUE sheet so use TocFixer to quickly generate one: https://www.ysutopia.net/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=4 That's it.

Now if you want to convert it back to BIN/CUE then mount the CUE on virtual drive e.g. daemon tools
then open IMGburn, select create image file from disc. select virtual drive for source. make sure destination is set to BIN file type.

Quote from: Magister on 02/14/2017, 02:08 PMThanks for the advice. I just want to change one track. But when I do, it screws up the whole soundtrack for the game. The track I'm trying to use is in MP3 form. I wonder if changing it to WAV will do the trick.
I can probably help you with this; I've done this a million times.

What do you mean by "it screws up the whole soundtrack"?

It definitely has to be WAV. Yes, all you do is change the name of your new file to match the filename of the file you want to replace. I never had to worry about the length of the tracks so I guess I just got lucky. One more thing, and I bet this is your problem, when you convert your MP3 or whatever to WAV, the WAV file has to be set to 16 bit PCM and 44.1 kHz (44100 Hz) or it won't work. I use Audacity to convert my files.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 01/10/2017, 08:25 PMFrom everything I heard, MAGfest this year was garbage. Especially for a lot of the guests. They treated Brentalfloss like ass, kicking him out of his spot to show off his game with no explanation at all. Also The Completionist who they flew in to compete in some Megaman bullshit was not listed as a guest so they had no hotel for him and no pass. Also heard that the festivities were quite boring all around even if you weren't a guest.
Hmm. I didn't notice anything different though. Would have been cool to see the Completionist. It was probably the Mega Man-athon where they beat every Mega Man game back to back and give to a charity.

The computer museum area was awesome. By the way, does anyone have any pictures of it?

My favorite bands were: Bit Brigade, where they did Castlevania, Batman, and Ducktales., Super Guitar Bros, Knight of the Round, and then everything else at the show on Friday called Mag Underground.

Quote from: TurboXray on 11/07/2016, 04:46 PMAlso, this winter, with the help of elmer's expanded system card for TED (512k ram), I'll release a CD version of MM2 with CD sound track like I did with MM1. That was pretty easy to do in MM1, so it should be the same with MM2.

I actually had a WIP of Castlevania nes2pce that had CD sound tracks. It had a bug that I never tracked down. I should probably add that to the list. The whole thing about the CD sound track, is so anyone can make their own personal sound tracks. I dunno. Being able to personalize games like that seemed like a cool idea.

Sapphire with the Lords of Thunder OST
Sapphire with the Gate of Thunder OST

Spriggan, Nexzr, and Hyper Duel (Sega Saturn) -- These versions are much better now than my first attempts were. Redone and more balanced.

Mega Man X3 Zero Project. Play as Zero throughout the entire game plus other enhancements.

Gameplay features:
-Zero is fully playable in stages that he CAN be played in. (IE: Can't switch to him in introduction, but he can be usable anywhere else).
-Zero can use all sub-weapons at the cost of double usage.
-Zero can refill energy tanks and weapons.
-Zero can obtain capsules, heart tanks, energy tanks and ride armor chips, though, Zero may not receive all benefits of the capsules.
-Zero has a 'Black Armor' in the Golden Armor capsule.
-Zero's Z-Sabre animation is much quicker in the air and on the ground.
-Inserted the unused buster frames of Zero for smoother transitions.
-Zero can now charge up all weapons and have his own animations with them.
-Zero CANNOT use the Hyper Chip
-X's buster animations have been hastened in air and ground.
-X's Z-Sabre animation is slightly faster.
-X's vertical dash animation is slightly quicker.
-You can switch characters on the stage select screen WITH an icon change by pressing a button on the 'X' icon.
-X and Zero are swapped in events. Unfortunately, X does not show his armors in them even if he has them. (Hard bug to work around).
-X and Zero each have their own banks of text that allow full customization of dialogue if so desired.
-Frost Shield launches quicker.
-Tornado Drill launches quicker.
-Triad Thunder's charged animation is much, much faster with a new sound to feel more impactful. -Screen shaking doesn't begin UNTIL you punch the ground.
-Energy tanks do NOT drain entirely if you use it to restore a little health. It restores what's needed, that is all.
-Zero can use Ride Armors with his own set of sprites.
-Z-Sabre has been heavily nerfed to compensate for Zero being playable.
-Golden Armor/Black Armor can be saved into the password system now.
-Air Dash/Vertical Dash code has been revised heavily. No longer does it check specific animation sequences, rather, it uses a 'fixed' number to set the amount of jumps you can do.
-Capsules no longer show armor pieces being placed onto the character. This caused SEVERE bugs throughout the game.
-Capsules now repeat their lightning wrap around animation three times to compensate for the flash feature being removed.
-X and Zero have their own section now for animation data, VRAM data and sprite assembly relating to them which allows full customization and plenty of spare room for new animations and sprites.
-You can Buster and Z-Sabre combo instantly with Zero only.
-You can chain charged buster shots on bosses instead of having to wait for the flash to go away to perform another attack. Ride Armor bosses are an exception.
-If you're already in the air with Zero, pressing jump again will allow you to double jump if you have the corresponding upgrade.

Now with MSU-1 compatibility. Here's the MSU-1 soundtrack:
For the SD2SNES or if you want to play it on an emulator. Google "epforums mega man x3 zero project msu-1" to find the MSU-1 version for use on the SD2SNES. MSU-1 version only works on bsnes or higan emulators.

Anybody have a SD2SNES? This is one of my favorite things to play on it.

Can't wait to hear your work. I was the one amplifying the soundtracks after I saw SamIAm's post about it. :)

If you're interested, here is a clipper plugin for mastering. It's transparent and doesn't cause distortion. Quote from: guest on 01/23/2016, 05:26 PMFrom my understanding, overclocking the Genesis would make the overall's game speed faster, but would not resolve the occasional slowdown. I could also imagine there'll be issues with the music going too fast.

This is not like a Windows Computer, where you can fix everything with just having your hardware running faster.
I think, the gameplay speed on most consoles is depandant on the system's clock speed. Just like in those very, very old DOS games, where some of them ran faster overall up to an unbearable speed on modern machines, thus those old PCs had the "Turbo" button to halve the clock speed manually.
I saw this video of an overclocked console reduce the lag in Sonic and I figured it could work for Mega Man.

I don't know if anyone here is into the MSU1, but I love it. Just got myself a SD2SNES and I'm going nuts with adding custom soundtracks. For example, I just found great soundtracks for MMX2 and X3 by this guy on youtube who remade the music to sound like they would on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.

Sega X2 -
Sega X3 -
Also, here is the channel with the other rock/metal soundtracks that I used for X2 and X3. For those who didn't see my older thread--he also did the original NES Mega Man soundtrack and I put it into NES2PCE Mega Man CD.
e.g. Mega Man X3 -
Google "TIZ uploads vacantplanets" to find my uploads and play them. I uploaded a version of the original Mega Man X MSU1 too.

I think this stuff is really cool and want to share it! :)

Quote from: GoldenWheels on 12/18/2015, 08:12 AMWell I switched to Maria for that level and holy crap is the game easier with a double jump and those doves. Got from that level to the boss rush level super quick with her.

That mummy is going down tonight.
Yeah and if you didn't know--Maria has the special move (up, down, down-forward, forward, attack) for when you get pissed off, lol. It takes like half the boss's health in one shot. Kills virtually everything else. She also has the slide (down then jump) and the roll (down-forward and jump).

Richter has a few weird extra controls too. If you hold the jump button while jumping, you can control him and turn around in the air (like Mario for example). Also if you press forward (double tap forward?) after attacking, you extend the whip's range a little. Don't forget that can attack in the middle of his back flip animation too.

Hope that helps.
Holy crap again--I did that (the Maria special move) by accident a bit ago, just came here to ask about it, and you've already explained it! Thanks for the tips on Richter as well, I'm going to try to get through more of the levels with him now.

I'm at 96%. Is there any way to tell specifically what I missed on the map screen? I got all four prisoners. I'm assuming I missed an exit, regular or special, somehow. I'd rather not have to try them all again. :(

But if so oh well, there's worse things than having to play an awesome game some more! :D
Haha, nice.

No you can't tell on the map screen. My first guess is usually stage 5' that isn't beaten. You have to kill Dracula and then go back to 4 or 4' and take the alternate route to unlock it.

Quote from: guest on 12/23/2015, 06:51 PMPlay MM9 for Splash Woman, fuck MM10 for all the scenes were you need patience to advance.

Oh, and nice arranged music, although I prefer the original tunes. Go fix that horrible fake widescreen stretch in the video, please.
Quote from: Enternal on 12/21/2015, 07:25 PMI'm not saying this as an insult, but imo the vid would be better without looking at your crotch while you play guitar. It's understand its very common thing with these videos and you wanna give props to your playing. Perhaps showing yourself playing during the beginning of a track or closing would be better. It distracts from showing the game and yourself having both going on at the same time.
It's not my video. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I just found out that the Side Arms (TG16) soundtrack was composed and arranged by the same person who wrote the Mega Man 2 soundtrack, Takashi Tateishi.

Quote from: vacantplanets on 12/22/2015, 04:22 PMThat's my fault with the music being loud. I didn't want it to be too low so I erred on the loud side. Though the sound effects seemed louder at the time I was editing it. I only tested it with my studio reference headphones and the sound effects don't seem to want to come through other speakers, do they? Are you playing on a console or emulator? I'm not sure, but the emulator might make the music seem louder compared to the SFX. Maybe I'll lower the music next time I play the game. Does anyone else think it's too loud?

Yeah, that Yellow Devil is a pain. Go play Mega Man 3 and get revenge on him; he's much easier when you can slide. I stopped playing Mega Man X5 when I got to him too. Although I should have stopped playing that game well before then; I think X4 is the last good Mega Man.
Playing on a Duo R RGB to Framemeister to Vizio LCD. Hopefully, others will pitch in with the same experience or suggestions for a fix. Tonight I played around with the channel volumes in the options menu, but again, it did not seem to make a difference.

Oh, and I've beaten the yellow bastard many times in the NES version, I just have not played this game in years and frankly don't have the patience anymore to memorize the pattern and then execute the jumps with pinpoint precision. IMO, the original Mega Man is one of the most perfect action platformers, until you get to that sob.

MM 9 and 10 are pretty good, and I found Mega Man Zero 3 and 4 to be great as well.
Oh I know how to fix it; I'm the one who put this music into the game and set its volume, haha. I'm just not sure if I want to fix it because I like it loud. Here's a guide if you want to fix it for yourself: https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=19673.0 Of course, when you get in Audacity and click on amplify, turn it down 2db. That should be enough--but if that's not enough or too much, you can always keep experimenting and changing it until you're happy.

So is the first Mega Man your favorite one?

I haven't checked out 9 or 10 because I don't have a Wii, 360, or PS3. I've heard good things about those and the Zero games. Have you played the ZX games?

Quote from: vacantplanets on 12/21/2015, 09:03 PMIf anyone's interested, his covers have also been added to Mega Man X2 and X3 thanks to the MSU-1 playable through the SD2SNES or Higan/BSNES. I also added his X3 soundtrack to the Saturn and Playstation versions. I uploaded them on the same site as I did with Mega Man CD. :)
As long as you're not linking the actual ROM, you're good with posting that link here. An update patch is also fine to link to.
I do have the ROMs included. I uploaded the games all put together to make it easier for people to play them. Also, I get less messages from people asking how to run them (specifically the MSU-1 stuff), hah. On that ROM site, I have a link to my uploads in my sig and you can also look at my profile to find them.

Quote from: nopepper on 12/22/2015, 12:11 AMThat was pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing.

One issue I have is that the music is way too loud by default. Can you please explain what the different channels in the options screen represent? I played around with the numbers next to all the channels, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Was it set that way as an ironic joke to the typical CD game, with the comparatively loud SFXs?!?

In any case, this was still great. I made it to the stupid yellow boss and rage quit after. The rock soundtrack fits the game pretty darn well, so great job.

Quote from: blueraven on 12/21/2015, 08:40 PMWow. I just got the new version of Megaman last year from Jodi, which I should say is fantastic, but this really blows my mind! A fantastic display of musicianship. Really liked the Gibson Hawk he was playing too, thats a killer guitar.

Quote from: guest on 12/21/2015, 11:44 AMI dig the tunes, but the lack of sound effects and missing seek times when changing tracks makes it feel weird to watch.
Agreed, if there were sound effects, I would actually be much more excited, but holy shit this guy is good! =D> =D> 8)

Glad you like it.

Well then download it and play it for yourself, haha.

If I was any good at the first Mega Man, I'd upload my own video. I have no idea what I'm doing in that game. I played the hell out of 2, 3, and 5 though.

Quote from: esteban on 12/20/2015, 06:58 AMDamn! I missed a lot of neat things, such as this thread!

I fully support this "project" :)

I always wondered why strong songs/soundtracks were intentionally and deliberately eviscerated in the final product (the game experience). I'm not saying the soundtrack has to dominate the experience...

UNRELATED QUESTION: Can you minimize the "hiss" present (left channel) in the first stage music in Valis II? The hiss is found on both JP and NA versions (back in the day, I hoped it was just a mastering error in the NA release...)

https://junk.tg-16.com/audio/Valis_II/Track_34.mp3

I'm not sure if the hiss is in both L and R, but it certainly is dominant in the left channel. For the entire track. :(
Thanks! Glad you like it. Yeah, something like Rayxanber III desperately needed this because of the sound effects.

I'll look into that Valis II thing but I can't promise anything. I can barely tell it's even there and I thought my OCD on these things was bad, haha. :D

Oh, I also did Cotton and all my stuff is uploaded to epforums now.

Quote from: guest on 12/20/2015, 03:59 PMI love heavy metal, but that soundtrack is very much not for me and kills the excitement and pacing of Mega Man. It's basically a smooth jazz take of the bgms, performed with laid back sleepy electric guitars.
Haha, I'm confused. You clicked on the youtube link I posted and think that's smooth jazz? You're talking about the soundtrack that I replaced, right? I'm sorry if you don't like it. I love it; I don't see how it could be any better or more faithful to the original. At least check out Wily 2 at 18:19. :)

Oh, that video is just the soundtrack playing over gameplay footage. Notice no sound effects. It's not a playthrough of the game I uploaded.

Mega Man with an awesome rock/metal CD soundtrack for the PC Engine/Turbografx CD! This can be played on real hardware or with an emulator.

This is one of the coolest things ever. I recently discovered Krzysztof's music and instantly realized that this needed to be added to Tom's work. Enjoy!

Google "[MOD] Mega Man CD - Rock Version (with real guitar covers)" to find it and download it. Should be the first result.

Thanks to Tom for all of his hard work!

Quote from: GoldenWheels on 12/16/2015, 08:32 AMman this game is awesome. Not sure what level it was, level 4 or 5, but I got to the hidden boss via a bomb that blew up a wall....destroyed the flying skull on my last life with 1/4 health, getting some love hearts from the "princess" during...then she turns into a villain and kills me!

Was VERY hard NOT to give it another run but sleep was calling.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure that going that way past the bomb in the wall is another way to unlock stage 5' too.

Quote from: crazydean on 08/31/2015, 07:03 PMReally enjoying this game. The controls were pretty frustrating at first, especially those damn stairs. But, once I got used to it, everything went smoothly. I really doubt this game will get finished this week, but it's worth a shot.
Quote from: grolt on 09/05/2015, 02:33 PMI was able to give this a go last night thanks to Lost Monkey sending me over a copy of the patched game. It actually played well on my system, much better than the burns I've been doing for Ys IV, which leads me to believe either my media is bad (likely) or I am doing something wrong in the burning process (less likely).

As for the game, I've always found the 2D Castlevanias to be clunky (limited attack directions, having to "engage" with the stairs before you can slowly walk up them) and this one continues that trend, but the presentation is just so beautiful it's really easy to overlook the archaic NES-era gameplay. They have an excellent Save/Menu system that makes it easy to play the game in chunks and work away at your progress. I'm not very far, only 24%, but I've enjoyed what I've played so far. The way the cut scenes and the presentation works in seamlessly with the gameplay is beautiful and ahead of its time. Shame Nintendo's strong arm policy towards third-party developers robbed us from getting a legit release of this game in NA.
You guys know that, unlike the NES games, you can jump onto the stairs, right? Jump and hold up to hop onto them from anywhere. You don't have to climb them all starting from the bottom. Jump on AND off of them! Not like the NES games at all.

Another hint: Master the backflip. Backflip over everything. Good luck beating Dullahan without backflipping over the flying head, haha. You can also attack in the air in the middle of the backflip.
