10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Hey guys, I know I've been MIA in this forum but I stay pretty active on the facebook groups.  I just want to say what's up and provide some updates on what I've been up to the last year or so in case you're not on facebook.  I'm still very active in the turbo/pce scene, working with thesteve and my Canadian brother, running the online store providing mods chips and repro hucards.

In addition to keeping up with the turbo stuff and family obligations, I'm also an aspiring actor.  That's right!  We have lived in Savannah, Georgia for over 5 years now.  Georgia is like the east coast Hollywood.  They do hundreds of films and tv shows in the area.  Since last October, I've been a background actor in 4 feature films, the first one being Ant-Man 2 which comes out July 6.  It might only be for a split second and blurry but I'm still excited of the possibility of seeing myself on the big screen :D  I just recently signed up with a local talent agent, so I hope to get some speaking roles.   This acting gig is just part time at the moment but if I can make a career out of it, it would be a dream come true!!

Anyway, if you still remember me since I haven't been active here, I would like to hear from you.  Lots of new folks here that don't know me so I would like to hear from you too.  I've been a member here for a long since and this forum is my original home.  Learned a lot here and met some great people.  NEC forever!!!

Hey guys, I had these glass screens custom made and they will be available soon.  They have logos on the bottom bezel that gives them a factory look and feel. They have adhesive backing that you just peel and stick. I'm also working on getting templates made to help make cutting the front shell easier. The glass screen will be $15.99 plus shipping and another $4 for the cutting template.  These can be ordered at www.tg16pcemods.com.

Hey all, we all know the controller boards  suffer from bad carbon traces causing the buttons and/or turbo functionality not to work.  In some cases, the main custom IC are failing.  In most cases, the bad carbon traces can be fixed by soldering a jumping wire or two but sometime you're need to fix the traces where the buttons makes contacts and that can be tricky.  Also there is no commercially available IC that fits the footprint of the custom IC.  To combat this issues, thesteve and I are working on a replacements controller board that will also incorporated components that will make it easy to add the external controller mod if one so chooses.

These are now available to order on the website at www.tg16pcemods.com.  Price is $40 plus shipping.  Get a $10 discount if you send in your stock board.

Note, comlink and lcd shutoff for power saving feature will not work unless OEM Chip is used instead. This will ship assembled with alternate replacement chips.

There is also an optional player 1 external controller port mod kit (available soon).

Just picked up a Sony 4K TV and thought I share some comparison between the OSSC & Framemeister.  OSSC is at 5X line and Framemeister is with the firebandx turbo profile settings.  The OSSC has a 3 frame input lag vs the 4 frame with a Framemeister on my set.  In conclusion, the OSSC is only 1 frame faster in terms of lag but the framemeister has better picture quality imo.  Also the picture quality using the ossc on a 1080p HDTV is not much better than direct component since it's only works on 2x line on those set.

Hey guys, so after years of doing the Turbo Express 3.5" LCD mod, thesteve and I finally have the composite video boards made.  These boards are installed right on top of the hu6260.   All you have to do is lift the corresponding legs, bend them over and solder.  Run the 5V, ground and video out accordingly.  Doesn't get any easier then that.

These are $15 each plus shipping.  Boards were made in the USA and hand assembled by me.  Please pm if you would like to order as my website hasn't been updated yet to include this mod board.  Thanks

So here is just another mod.  It's a turbografx-16 modded with internal ED 2.4 and super system card functionality for the cd games.  It will default boot to ED without hucard in slot.  Shout out to thesteve for figuring this out.

IMG
IMG

Having a spare hucard slot helps with the mod but wires can be run and soldering directly to the ED.

Note: LS245 is needed at empty spot (IC103) on tg16 pcb for older version of ED, ED 2.4 has it already built-in.

You guys have already seen my psone lcd mod.  I couldn't always get a good solid connection and it was steady enough when attached to the pce.  Then I thought what about mounting it on the tennokoe 2 bank.

IMG

IMG

IMG

There looks to be enough room to add an internal li-ion battery mod in the tennokoe bank so I will try that next.

This is already posted in the sale thread so I apologize for the double post.  I just wanted to make sure people are aware of the new version in case they aren't checking on the sale post.

Thesteve and I made the obey region chip easier to install.  This new chip does not require that you run wires to each hucard slot pin.  It fits directly on the pins for easy slim installation.  Installation time is around 15 to 20 minutes (compared to previous models which could easily take an hour or more).

It wires to the SPDT as normal for home consoles with base of switch to switch soldering pad on new chip, 5v on one end of switch and ground on the other end.The switchless function for the handheld units is now on the same board but requires a couple of additional components.

The key to this install is to cut the 9 pins on hucard slot side really short.

Finally found the perfect rechargeable battery solution for the turbo express thanks to a fellow tech.  Battery is charged thru the express ac plug.  The only thing needs to be done is mount a tri color led somewhere on the outside so its visible.

Here is the charger and booster circuit I'm using

Here is the battery I'm using.

You can also series two 1000mAh batteries together.

Note, it can only be charged with a 5v power supply.  I found that the sony psp adapter works but you have to replace the jack on the express.  Replacement jack can be found at console5.

Also you have to rewire the express jack.

Hey guys, I just did an atari lynx lcd replacement and the quality is amazing.  The same guy is also offering lcd's for the gamegear and unlike the board from tim worthington, its full screen for game gear.  It's lcd with driver board.  Its pretty pricy but he'll give discount for orders of 5.  It's normally $105.90 for one plus shipping.  With the group buy discount, it will be 89.18 plus shipping.

All, I'm searching for a usb capture device for my laptop.  It has to have both composite and component video inputs.  I'm looking for still shots and video captures functionality.  I know I can google it but I'll rather buy one that came highly recommended and that someone have used themselves.  Thanks

As you guys already know, me and a couple of other guys(thesteve and Brraap) have been working on the component video box.  We were only going to build a few but we've been getting a lot of request for them so we decided to take it to the next level and do a kickstarter.  We just launched our kickstarter last night.  Please help spread the word and thanks for your support.

So someone built a box using the version 2 component board I sell.  The box plugs to the back of the turbografx-16/pce.  With custom quick disconnect cables, this box can also be used on a genesis, Sega master systems and snes.  I plan on building a few of these myself and offering them for sale here.  I will have enough parts to build 4 maybe 5.  Prices will be $100 before shipping for pce/tg16 only option.  Add another $25 for snes/genesis model 1/sms option.

I tried out a different location for the region board in a pc-engine install to keep the data lines short.  Didn't think I had room at this location but it works.  Every rom I tried on the Turbo Everdrive seems to load A-OK.  I have another PC-Engine with the region board already installed and it's having issues with the everdrive.  Will move the region to this location to see if the everdrive loads any better.

I received a request from a fellow turbob for some tips on making a custom 8-pin din to rca's component cable.  Well I finally got around to doing another component mod on a Duo and had my daughter help me record some of it.  The screen is flipped on about half the scenes.  I couldn't wait to do another component mod to record it again therefore I post the vid's as it is.  I hope this helps some of you.  I would also like some feedback.  I'm always looking for some new tips and tricks I can use:)

I just resurrected a TE I picked up from eBay a while ago. It was missing all the screws and the green power switch. Now I need the green power switch. If any of you have a spare TE I can salvage from, please let me know. Worst case if I can't find a replacement, I'll just install another power switch that's easily accessible. Thanks
