10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB a few capacitors
09/27/2014, 09:49 PM
As the topic states, I'm looking for a handful of caps. Don't need to be anything great, just wanting to get a few more years out of my aging Macintosh LC. I could go straight to an online dealer or help someone on here out by taking a few unused caps off their hands. Voltage doesn't have to be exact, but as close as possible above recommended.

Here is what I need:
1uf 50v x1
10uf 16v x8
47uf 16v x5
100uf 6v x1

Just give me a quote with shipping to 17316. Thanks.

Here is an interesting one for you guys...

The story begins with me having bought the thing back in 2002 from TZD. Played it a few times before tossing it back in it box. It was around that time I met my ex, so the game collection took a back burner and stored away. Skip the boring details...

Here is 2014 and having thought the system was lost or perhaps stolen, I come across it in a box tossed in a closet at my parents house. The box shows some wear, but the system and the rest of the contents are as pristine as when it came from the factory. Was excited to find that it while helping my mother "spring clean" preparing for a possible move to a new house. Popped a set of batteries in the bad boy along with Bonk's Adventure and flicked the power button. Nothing happened. Checked the battery placement, changed batteries, etc. and still nothing. Excitement turned to sadness thinking that perhaps the caps turned the innards into mush. Opened it up and examined the caps carefully to see no visible signs of leaking. Haven't done any extensive checks, just visual. Could dried up caps be the culprit? Would be awesome to have this thing working again.

Is there a way to see what topics people started on here? Such as me finding some of my old threads without wading through 1300 post or 50 or so pages of topics to find them. I see its possible to see a list of members idividual posts, but not topics.

Its a feature I've made use of on other boards, but this one seems to lack it or I'm too stupid to find it.

Just as the topic states. Looking for something decent to play on this SNES I picked up a few weeks back. Not sure what either title is fetching right now, but if anyone has a copy they are willing to sell at a reasonable price, shoot me a pm. I know they released a combo cart of these two which would be great depending on the price.

Allstars isn't  too important since I got all the games (minus lost levels) on the NES, but World is a definite.

I have a loose copy of Spawn that I could trade for it too.

Thanks folks!

Ok... this is, as the topic states, a gauge of interest in my MVS cab. I'm also having to give it up, which is the hardest of it all to part with. I wanted one for years, finally got one and now I gotta give it up. Life is cruel. :(

Anyway, enough of my self pity...

/e2eh.jpg

This is it. It isn't a official SNK "Big Red", but it appears to have been converted using an official kit. Inside is an MV-1F board. It's got a 19" monitor and stereo sound. It's in good shape, but could use a little TLC, which I never got around to doing. Here are some of the outside blemishes the cab has.

/r1bs.jpg
The little strip above the marquee appears to have broke at some point. I took a piece of scotch tape to hold it together to keep it from coming off the rest of the way.
/e2ll.jpg
Above the monitor on the bezel is a spot that looks like something was taped to it. It was removed, tore the bezel and some idiot (not me) tried to cover it up with a red marker. #-o
/4gqn.jpg
There is a white mark on the control panel overlay and the button markers look like they were twisted a little somehow.
/2dd2.jpg
The overlay had started to peal away at some point and was fixed with packing tape.
/il3x.jpg
The black mask is starting to peal away here.
/osjt.jpg
A little chipping here.
/lz09.jpg
More overlay peeling on the other side.
/7hfp.jpg
A decent size chip on the left side of the cab close to the back on the bottom.

Some pics of the inside of the cab.
/mqmb.jpg
Back of the monitor. The cardboard cover was hanging off, so I took a zip tie through the two attached to hold the board in place. :-"
/s2c4.jpg
The part of the cab that matters most. The MVS is connected to the stereo speakers through the stereo connector.
/bi60.jpg
Power supply board. The +5v took a shit so I had to swap out the switching power supply with a cheap one.
/a1x6.jpg
Couple of crack running from the coin door to the outer edges. Doesn't appear to affect the integrity of the panel though.
/wmz6.jpg
A little tag attached to the coin door. Originally a Samurai Shodown cab? :)

I live about an hour from Harrisburg, PA and this isn't exactly something I can box up and drop off at the post office. This would basically be for anyone close enough to drive to get it. I haven't decided on a price or anything yet, as I'm waiting to see where my other sale will get me first.

If get no hits here, I'll post it on Craigslist. Thanks for looking!

Final Fight and a Raiden 2. As you can see in the pic, the Raiden is busted, but I bet the board is still working. I so need to find out how to get a hold of the owners. I might be able to snag the Raiden for next to nothing. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on that FF as well. =P~

Well no point in further going with this since only one person qualifies. The Professor won.

Now that I've got your attention, read carefully...

Been a little while since my last raffle, so here we go!

I've got a Neo-Geo MV1-AX with Samurai Shodown II I want to share with one lucky individual. It was a broken unit I obtained a number of months ago that I brought back to life. Fixed a couple of broken traces, and did a battery mod on the ol' girl. Works like a charm now. Missing the feet, but I got the cover zip tied to the pcb to hold it together. Sorry, but battery not included. SS2 as you can see in the image has a torn label, but works. Best Shodown game of the series, IMO.

/imagempgm.jpg

Rules:
1.) No leeching douchebags.
2.) Must have raffled at least one item in the past.
3.) 250 post count minimum.
4.) Must have a way to play it. Supergun or Arcade Cab required to enter.
6.) Must not already own an MVS system.
7.) Open to U.S. residents only.
8.) I'm covering shipping by cheapest method available. If you want it shipped faster your paying. :P
9.) I decide who gets entered and who doesn't. The nicer you play the better your chances of being included.

I will let this thing go for a few weeks and draw a random name at a random date.

Good luck to any/all that enter and thanks for playing!

Made a few attempts at playing this game in the past and more recently in the past couple day. Call it pathetic, but I've pretty much given up on the real system and resorted to emulation and save states. The game is really good and most of the gameplay; fighting, movement, bosses, etc. hasn't been too difficult to figure out. The controls seem nice and tight. The bosses patterns and how to beat them so far hasn't been a problem to figure out. The jumping portions of the game seems to be where the real deal breaker lies. So far I've come across two areas where these jumping sections are, one being the cliffs and the other in the mines.

The cliffs were fun trying to get through being that your required to use the panther. It's a longer length sprite which makes the need to position your jumps more important. Make a jump and attempt to land smack in the middle of the next spot. If your off by a fraction of an inch (i.e. if one of the panther's paws hang off the edge), you slip off and most likely off the screen and you lose a life. The process wouldn't be so tedious if you weren't so limited on lives and it is too early in the game to burn through too many.

The mine is the next area that has given me some trouble and where I am at now. Has a pit right in the middle of the lower part of the shaft and boulders falling at a constant pace. Slip or get hit by a rock in mid-jump and into the pit you go. You have to jump from elevator to elevator while avoiding the rocks. I wagered that the golem was necessary for this section, but it moves so slow and its jump range is so short, I can't make it to one of the elevators.

Another point of interest is the temple where the Seeker boss is. First I entered as a human, got called names by the bitch on the throne and killed by her fireball. Second time I chanced the panther. The bitch mention about a cat entering and that its a good sign. I get control back and a couple seconds later she kills me anyway because I wasn't the "man-beast". Ok, two lives down and I figure now that I may have to change from cat to man. Made me crack a smile when i saw her get smashed by the two stone paws...bitch. So, I'm supposed to lose two lives to find out the proper technique to deal with her? Where was I told what to do and by who?

Game is fun, but fairly challenging due to the lack of info on what to do next. Your just supposed to know. Should I be consulting the annoying voice of the fortune teller in the first town? Is their something my dumb ass is missing? Why does this post contain several hundred words? Anyone have some advise on how to handle this game? Or do I just fucking suck? Nevermind, I don't want to know. #-o

/img0684ej.jpg

Some of you may remember the Centipede turned MVS cab I posted pics of a few months ago. Well I had to replace the monitor tube recently and having checked yoke impedence and neck board pins, it seemed to match the old tube. After hooking the thing up I got the above pictured image on the tube. It's the MVS cross-hatch screen, just really jumbled. The lines jump around, but remain centered on the screen, the image never touches the top or bottom.

This is my first tube replacement so I'm not really sure how to progress as the connections are all solid and the chassis components appear to be in decent condition stil. If anyone has an idea what I may try to fix the display, would be much appreciated.

Got me a MK V for a really good price a few months back and the thing has eaten two PC power supplies already. Was playing my P.O.W. arcade board on it tonight and got 4 stages in before the screen blanked out and the fans on the PSU stopped spinning. Luckily I only paid $1 for the pair at a flea market, but still I can't believe it has killed both. This recent one was a fairly beefy 350W supply, so it should have had no problem handling it. Anyone with a Vogatek have similar problems?

I've pretty much given up on the damn thing as a result.

High Score Records / Implode High Scores
03/10/2013, 09:52 PM
I'm surprised this game doesn't have a High Scores thread yet...

Anyway, I got 27,851 points on level 11. Pretty easy when you use Turbo... :-"

Or is that the reason there isn't a thread for it yet?
#12
Just got me one a few weeks ago and have been looking on the Internet for instructions on doing the mod. I've seen no how tos for it. I took it apart and inspected the board, but didn't see any hint of jumpers to attach the switch to. Anyone happen to figure out a mod for this thing or done a mod on one before?
#13
Works great, but is missing back expansion cover and comes with no box or instructions.
Games are complete with slip cases. BattleAce is still sealed.

Would like to get $225 for it which includes shipping anywhere in the U.S.

Have some accssories for the Turbo for sale (as the topic states... :P) Dipped into my tote of turbo stuffz and realized I have things I've purchased new and never used and stuff that I used a few times and has remained in the tote since. Stuff's gotta go unfortunately so it's for sale.

This isn't for everyone. If your new here (less than 100 posts), haven't contributed to the community, and post mostly in the Sale & Trade sections, don't bother inquiring. I'm not selling to you. I don't want to seem like a dick, but this stuff is meant to be kept in the Turbo loving community for enjoyment and preservation, not as money making eBay fodder.

Also can't ship any of this outside the States, so I apologize to our out of country bretheren. Prices do not include shipping.

Pictures are to come shortly.

Items in RED are on hold.

Turbo Express TurboVision - $45
New in box, never used. Box shows light shelf wear.

Will also have some import hardware and accessories for sale in the PCE section soon.
#15
I know it's a long shot, but figured I'd toss it out there in case anyone can offer some assistance.

Needs to include both ribbon cables and the headphone wire.

If anyone has one for sale or know where I might procure one, please let me know.

Thanks.

Got a lot more games here for sale. Finding myself with less time for playing so might as well give someone else a chance to love on them. :P
Shipping is by USPS and calculated based on location or flat rate box, which ever is cheapest based on amount purchased. Payments by PayPal GIFT or pay 4% for the stupid fee. Have at 'em! I'll probably have some hardware and accessories up for sale after I get rid of some of these too.

I'm also looking for an Order of the Griffon manual as well as Neo Geo MVS carts if anyone has either they wish to trade for some of these.

Haven't offered up a raffle item in a while, so time to change that!

/img0478h.jpg

Comes with everything in the bad photo (blank looking page beside the manual is the registration card). Received this from Black Tiger and I already own a copy so this one is up for raffle.

I'd like this to go to somebody with a PC-FX and who doesn't also have this game. Anybody??? Though anyone interested in getting a PC-FX, has good rep, and minimum 50 post count on here is welcome to enter.

Sell this on eBay and I'll send Arkhan over to your house to knife you!

Raffle will be drawn next Saturday. Shipping is on me!

Do believe this is the first PC-FX raffle on the forums. :-k  There's a first time for everything!

Perhaps this seems a little odd, and perhaps it is. I now have two Expresses. One new, unused in box I purchased from TZD back in 2002, and a great condition one I purchased from Nectarsis back in December. I was just wondering if anyone would like to trade my good condition, recapped, Turbo Express for a similar condition PC Engine GT. Just wouldn't mind having one of each for my collection, if that makes any sense. If anyone is interested, I'll happily post pics. Won't be worth posting them otherwise. Thanks.

Anyone know of the existance of any other books besides the Encyclopedia and the two "Secrets of..." volumes that provides info/secrets/cheats the Turbo and its games/accessories? Mostly curious cause I own all three mentioned books and wouldn't mind knowing a little more about any others that may exist.

My 4yr old daughter somehow got ahold of my TG16 controller under my wife's supervision while I was at work tonight and bent a couple of pins in the connector. Instead of informing me of what happened, the wifey decided to attempt repair, hoping I'd not find out what happened most likely, with a pair of needle nose pliers and broke one of the pins out. :( If anyone has a spare lying around they'd be willing to sell, please let me know. Thanks.

***FINAL UPDATE ***

All carts have been shipped to their respective owners which brings this group buy to a close. A final thank you to all participant for making this possible.

Price per flash cart is $69.00. Shipping to my home is $56.00 or 3.50 per flash cart. I am currently planning USPS Priority Small Flat Rate Boxes for domestic shipments as it is an easy, fast, and affordable method.
International orders: After conversing with my local post office, I have decided to go with actual shipping cost since it will be cheaper in most cases than the flat rate box.

Here is the updated list of participants so far as well as their current status. I will keep this list updated, so keep an eye on it. :D

I have stepped forward and am willing to take care of the order, purchase, and shipping (once received) of the Neo Flash carts. If anyone else wishes to take charge, please speak now or forever hold your peace. If you do not feel me trust worthy enough for this task, then please do not participate in the group buy.

I do not wish to be stuck with multiples of the cart and a severe hole in my wallet, so I must ask for half the cost of the units up front to prevent folks from backing out after the order has been made. If you do not like such an idea, then please state so now and your name will be removed from the list.

The cut-off date as been pushed back to the 21st, which will act as the last day to pay half (or all if you choose) the cost of your unit. If anyone else is interested in one, now is the time to act.

I will update the above list with new additions as well as votes as I receive them.

Stay tuned for more info and thanks in advance to everyone who is participating. =D>

Did a search here and on the internet. Posted some questions in the recent Tennokoe Bank thread, but I think it got lost in the shuffle. I came up with no info on this thing.

Hooks up to the back of a PCE system and uses a AA battery to power the save feature. Tennokoe Bank or a supporting huey can be used to access the BRAM. That much is common sense.

Now my questions...

1.)What is the light on the back right of the unit for? When I first hooked it up and installed the battery, it lit up when I switched my PCE on. At first I assumed it may have been an indicator to tell when the battery needs changed. But why only light up with the system switched on? Is it the missing power indicator light that the PCE is missing?  Not sure, but now after a few weeks it doesn't light up but my saves are still intact so that can't be the case, can it?

2.) How long can this thing keep saves intact on a AA battery?

3.) Will changing the battery erase the BRAM? If so, can that be avoided by doing it with system powered on?

If anyone can offer some assistance, would be much appreciated.

Anyone know what the price of the disc is at this time? I seen a few on eBay recently as BIN for $55+. What is a fair price for the demo disc in your opinion?
#32
As the title says. These are no longer for sale, unfortunately. Now I'm giving them away.

Just tell me which game you'd like and as the way most giveaways go, if there is more than one person interested in a title, I'll randomly pick a winner. Winners will be decided next Tuesday. Only one game per person. If you list more than one game, the first one will be chosen. Good luck!

Damn, with all the free stuff being passed around, must be a kindness bug spreading... :-k I know it's not as nifty as some of the freebies on here, but it's at least something.  8-[

Might as well join the crowd of people posting the games they need to complete their collections. Basically only looking for games with manual and (if it applies) case. Don't care about boxes.

US CD-ROMs:
Beyond Shadowgate
Dynastic Hero
Super air Zonk
Syd Mead's Terra Forming

US Hueys:
Magical Chase

If anyone has an extra of any of the following, please let me know. Trying to spruce up my collection by completing some of my games. Will add more once I figure out what else I may be missing.

TG16 Manuals:
Order of the Griffon

The board in my controller has gone haywire. My D-pad has decided to stop working. Opened it up and poked at the cable with a multimeter and all connections are good. Hooked it up to a different system and still had the same problem so I can only assume it has to be the board. If anyone has an extra they don't mind tossing my way that would be great. PWD-624 is written on it which I would assume is the model number for the board. Since there seems to be several different types of boards floating around I figured that mind come in handy for finding a match.

Looking for one mostly for the composite video functionality. A save feature though would be a definite "Plus". :P

I'm playing through DM: Theron's Quest again after the game sat untouched for many years and I just can't get past the Den of Shadodan. I get the Taza Armor and also kill the dragon for the hell of it, but I can't seem to get the armor back to the entrance. I get to the room with the moving teleporters that push you down to the lower level and can't seem to figure out how to get past it. The sad part is I beat the game before years ago, but my much older brain has failed me this time. I've tried playing through the level several times trying something different each time, but no luck. Can anybody help an idiot out? Thanks in advance.

Hey folks, new here. I won a Turbo game lot off eBay years ago that also included two oddities. First was a pirate copy of a dodgeball game (which is not the subject here) and a mutilated J.J. and Jeff. Well the J.J. and Jeff hucard is missing 4 of its contacts. It almost appears as though it was done for a reason as it doesnt exactly appear to be random pins, though I could be wrong. When inserted in the system the game starts and plays fine with no scrambled music or sprites and controls work fine. I've done searches on the internet and even checked ebay to see if I could find any other hucards that might be defaced in a similar manner with no luck. Just wondering if anyone on here might have seen or heard of something similar to this.

To note, I'm not sure which pins on the chip does what, but the missing contacts (if the card is face up and the pins at the top) are the first pin, pin 11, pin 21, and pin 38 (last pin).
