Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Ultra Box #5
01/15/2018, 10:48 AM
I keep missing these on YAJ or get out-sniped. Ebay is $$$$ as we all know. Someone have one they could let loose?
#2
Not speaking of DE2, but DE1 - I didn't know of one, but I also don't know everything. It would be amazing if there were a soundtrack with chip and arranged versions.

So, there was another thread that was loosely about this game from awhile back, but it was kind of...not related. So i thought I'd start a new one. I'm sure I'll have more questions as time passes on this one anyway, and this is good place to dump them on you guys.

Question:

How the HELL do I view the map?! I'm using the Bros Duomazov guide [which is great, honestly] but they reference checking the map, which I am 90% sure I've acquired. They just don't mention where in the menus you access it. ???
#4
Let's say someone wanted to fund a translation. Just text, not a dub

Let's say this person was offering to pay for this to happen...what kind of money would make this worthwhile? I'm just curious. I know it depends on the game. But for example's sake, let's say Dragon Knight & Graffiti.

What would be the time frame, how many people needed, projected hours and so on?

Just curious...drinking

I was thumbing through an old PCE Fan magazine this morning and came across this:

Anyone know anything about this?

I've been in a mahjong mood lately and have been trying to go through and actually finish some of the more long-winded titles.

I feel like I put about 15+ hours [maybe more] into this one and just finished it last night:

SEISENSHI DENSHŌ - JANTAKU NO KISHI

The story seemed to have some decent tongue-in-cheek moments from what I could gather. I felt like it was worth talking about due to the ability to switch characters and use special powers/spells in the middle of a match. Typically, in these games, you buy a power up beforehand and it is activated at the beginning of a round or under some condition around the end of a round. Just hit select during a round and you can switch through all the available characters you have in your party. Some have spells that work in-match and others you have to use beforehand. Puts a cool spin on things.

The graphics were really nice and crispy. It had a bit of a low budget feel which I have found most Nichibutsu mahjong titles have - even in the arcade.

It's def worth a playthrough if you are into mahjong at all. It's actually pretty damn easy as far as mahjong games go.

Gonna' go through the first Jantei Monogatari next. I loved 2 [both chapters] and 3 [they might be my fave mahjong titles on the PCE], but the first one is completely different.

Any other mahjong fans out there?

pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Power_Golf2.htm

I just felt compelled to rant about this as it's been on my mind.

I have an odd obsession with old school golf games. I have no idea why. I have a pretty massive collection of US/Jpn games across 8/16/32 bit. 16-Bit being my favorite era. I group PCE in with this because it transcends "8-bit".

Power Golf 2 is so far beyond any other game from the era that it isn't even funny. Mario Golf tries to add RPG elements but it gets so cumbersome it detracts from the golf aspect, making it impossible to pick up and pay.

Power Golf 2 is completely playable without knowledge of Japanese as all menus are in english. The RPG elements are superb. Forcing you to manage a job, practicing and entering tournaments at certain dates. It's surprisingly rich in content.

The actual golf gameplay is also excellent. It takes the sim aspect from games like PGA Tour and creates something that doesn't "feel" like a sim. It moves at a decent pace and the presentation is top notch.

I seriously can't say enough good things about this game. It's also damn fun with the mouse. You can get the game for like $5 too. It's just great and I wanted to make a thread [I think I made a similar one years ago - edit: yep, I did] to reiterate it's greatness.

Trying to figure out some prices for some stuff I am thinking of letting go of. I will probably add to this list tonight when I get home.

Sharp Cyberstick - loose
Xhe-3 adapter - boxed
Renny Blaster - complete, no spine
#9
seeing as there is a walkthrough for the SNES version...curious how much of it applies (if any) to the PCE version.
#10
So, I just recently got my hands on a Cyberstick and an XHE-3 and I can't stop playing After Burner 2. This really takes me back to spending all my birthday cash playing the giant arcade version with the moving seat way back when.

So, how many levels are in the PCE version? It's starting to get really difficult around stage 15 for me.
#11
Speaking of the Duo, not the R/RX...the color of the tray release button and even the power button seem to vary wildly among these systems. I assumed it was just aging plastic...but some seem to be legitimately grey while others blue?

Were there variations of these or is this just plastic being dumb plastic?

So, I'm a nerd that also happens to be a beer nerd. So I combined these 2 things into one tabletop game. Beerpocalypse.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/beerpocalypse/beerpocalypsetm-a-tabletop-game-that-is-powered-by

I've taken the last year off from work and devoted all of my time to this project. I've created, designed, wrote and illustrated the entire project myself. If any of you guys like beer and board games, I encourage you to check it out and pledge. Or, share it with people who might be interested.

21 days to go and I need all the eyeballs I can get. I've exhausted my budget for advertising on promoted FB/blog posts as well as banner ads on BGG and print ads in a beer magazine. All I have left is word-of-mouth.

I can also answer any questions. Before you ask, the game is not waterproof. [Although it might be if I hear back from a few printers I am working with on a synthetic paper option] It is, however, coated to be liquid resistant. I've spilled many times on my prototype with no probs. The most any person has spilled in testing has been a glass from their tray which is less than 4 ounces and cleaned up quick and easy. I get this question a lot

Anyway, that's my shameless plug
#13
It's been eating away at me that I don't have this one. Anyone have one they are willing to part with?
#14
I will post pics if anyone is interested. I miss having a black Duo. :( And playing Turbo on-the-go isn't as much a priority to me anymore. It was modded by turbokon. Excellent shape. 3.5" LCD, looks amazing.

Duo doesn't need to be boxed (but that would be neat-o). Just nice shape and recapped. Working 100%

I think this is a pretty good deal for someone?
#15
This is possibly my second thread on this, but was unable to find the first...assuming it exists. I drink.  :?

I popped it in for a few holes just now. Every time I come back to it I am floored at what they pulled off. If you look at similar games on Genesis - the PGA tour games that attempted the pseudo-3D courses. They just don't hold up next to PG2. The only game I know of that refreshes faster is Waialae on SNES. But it's nowhere near as polished as PG2 in terms of design and interface.

Anyone else love this one? It's probably my favorite 8/16-bit era golf game.

Question: it appears you can save in between holes...I have yet to figure out how to "load" these saves. They show up in my file cabinet - but I cannot find any way to load them to save my life.
#16
is there an order I should play them in?

Is one better than the others?

What is everyone's favorite of the series?
#17
I like the look of it, it seems like there is a good game in there. I just don't know how to play.
#18
I searched around and couldn't really find an answer for this. For those that have played through it, any idea of how long it took?
#19
yes please

PC-FX Discussion / PC-FX mahjong titles?
10/18/2014, 09:31 PM
is there a list somewhere I can figure out:

A.) How many mahjong titles are on the system

B.) Their Japanese titles?

The system would be totally worth picking up for me if there is a good chunk of mahjong on it.
#21
*just kidding, it's free to whomever wants it and has more than 100 posts and is in the US.

I am looking for the case, I MIGHT need the manual...I honestly can't remember and need to double check. I know this is a weird request.

Looks cool, but also completely unfamiliar to me.
#24
I'm using the aftermarket AC adapter in an attempt to be safer on the PCE with my crazy american voltage.

Only problem is, if I am using the aftermarket version i get a pretty bad hum on the speakers that is not present when I use the original AC adapter.

What's going on?
#25
i know this is a long shot, but:

A. Has anyone actually played this game for more than 5 minutes?

B. I am a couple hours in, doing odd jobs, buying clubs and practicing. I started my first tournament and am curious if anyone knows how to save mid-tournament? It seems you can only give up or hole out.

Playing 18 holes without stopping seems completely unrealistic. There HAS to be away to save mid-tournament. This game is great once you really dig into it.
#26
Should i be greasing gears or adjusting lasers, etc.? What are some good practices to ensure everything stays in good working order for years to come?
#27
Has anyone talked about UNdoing what working designs did with this game? In interviews they make it sound like they change 1 number to royally ruin the game. It would be cool if there was a fixed ISO of it. Just thinking out loud, it's probably come up before but I couldn't find anything in search.
#28
Not so much from a coding side, but more from the art side of things. I am a professional illustrator and designer and want to experiment with doing some gfx that would theoretically be PCE compliant. Is there a thread I've missed that has a break down of the graphics specs that I could use somewhere?

Sprite size/format
Background size/format
etc
#29
This is one of those games I've put off getting for years. It just never jumped out as something I HAD to play. However, I'm at that point where I feel like I've played most games and this one occurred to me.

Here's the deal, I always remember this being a $30-40 game. But when I went to eBay, everyone is asking $70+ for it. ???!!!???!!!

Is there anyone here looking to unload this one at a price someone would actually pay? I'm definitely not a flipper. It would go to a loving home where it will stay. Permanently.

Fighting Street / eBay shaming
08/21/2014, 07:52 PM
I thought it might be fun to link to ridiculous eBay auctions and find out if they belong to any members here - then SHAME them horribly.

The idea came from seeing this auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-TURBO-GRAFX-DUO-SYSTEM-PLAYS-US-amp-JAPAN-HU-CARDS-C-GAMES-ALL-IN-ONE-SYSTEM-/321497716072?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

Is this someone here?

Odd with all the mahjong titles on PCE, they never released a proper controller? Famicom has one, neo geo even. But we got a pachinko controller?! Frustration spam for the day.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: Vasteel
11/24/2013, 01:31 PM
Comprete, don't need the cardboard sleeve.

Ebay prices are just silly. Most Vasteel auctions ended recently around $70-80 for a complete copy [no cardboard sleeve] I would go a little higher than that, but not much.
#35
I recently played this for the first time on my Everdrive and decided to pick up a copy. It came in the mail this week and I've spent about an hour or so on it so far. It's EXTREMELY challenging, but I keep coming back for more. It's surprisingly good, but honestly doesn't make much sense.

Anyone have any strategies or recommendations for which character is best? Has anyone actually finished it before? Am I correct that there is no way to continue?

I bought this on release when I was in high school. My memory is foggy but I am 90% sure I finished the game back then. But after reading the article on HG101, I doubt it. [I've drank since then, hence the fog] I recently played through the original Exile and had an amazing time. So, naturally I decided to keep the ball rolling and dive right into E2.

What I was greeted with was an immensely difficult, frustrating game that honestly felt like a step backwards. What gives?!

No maps, you have to track through the sidescroll levels to travel between cities. [if it ain't broke?], also noticed that it seems 1 in 3 healing tonics actually poison me. "that tonic tasted funny"

More than one [so far] of Working Designs topical jokes thrown in for no damn reason.

WHAT HAPPENED?!

Is the Japanese version easier? Did WD actually mess with the game code and change up the game? Is there a story behind this game's localization?

update: I read the HG101 article on this game I just found that answers all:
