Quote from: Medic_wheat on 05/30/2018, 09:58 PMDo backers get this game as well?  Will it be included physically with the full game?
Backers get download codes if they backed at at least $28. Unfortunately, there seems to have been a snafu with the console codes, so they haven't all gone out yet.

I ordered the regular edition, since it's open pre-order and only $30. I've never bought anything from them before, so this should be interesting.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to link some of these accounts to consolidate your library. I know I linked my Vudu account to Movies Anywhere because they were giving out some free movies to incentivize it.

Apparently AtGames has claimed responsibility, but the source I was able to find is a Facebook post I can't read because I refuse to get a Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/ATGFlashback/posts/569040440124610

Hopefully that link isn't something other than I think it is.

I've also read It's Behind You, and I'll second that recommendation. Also, I remembered the author had a web site set up for it, and I took the liberty of finding it: http://www.bizzley.com/

Quote from: Johnpv on 02/25/2018, 11:32 AMI hate to do the I've used it for years with no problems kind of post, but yeah I used it a lot back in the day and had no issues with it.  Again though I NEVER hot swap controllers that have to be plugged in on any of my system.  I don't know if that's it and if there are posts from people saying they didn't do that and it still fried their port then I totally missed them and that's on me.  Food for thought though.
Well, I don't have any way to know for sure if the stick was the cause, but I did start having issues with one of the ports on my Xbox, which was the system I used it on most. I also generally don't plug or unplug controllers while the system is on, either. I liked the stick, but I decided to play it safe. That, and Wii games that support GameCube controllers completely fail to detect it, so my hope would be that a new PCB would fix that. I'd love to use it for some Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Quote from: Johnpv on 02/22/2018, 08:21 AMI also have a Pelican Real Arcade Universal that will work with PS1/2, OG Xbox and GC, but I still need a good Saturn, SNES, Genesis, and PCE solution.
I have one of those Pelican sticks as well, but stopped using it as I heard the PCB design had a tendency to burn out controller ports. One of these days I'd like to have the board swapped out, so I can go back to using it without worrying that I'll damage one of my consoles.

Saw it last night. I honestly didn't see anything worth the level of anger this seems to be getting from some corners. It made some surprising choices, sure, but I think it generally betrayed my expectations in an interesting way. This may count as a mild spoiler, but I felt like it had the theme of a new generation taking the reigns, which is appropriate seeing as that's what's happening with the current Star Wars movies.
#10
It doesn't have anything as convenient as a list of Hudson games with the contract developers that worked on them, but this seems like the sort of thing the GDRI researches. You'd probably have to search their database for individual games, but they may have the information you want.

I've got the HDRetrovision cables. They're a little pricey, but they're well-built as far as I can tell and I can't complain about the picture.

Anyhow, I remembered Digital Foundry did a couple videos on 32X where they looked at all of the games on the system, which I thought were pretty good. Perhaps they'll be useful:

Quote from: Medic_wheat on 10/29/2017, 11:57 PMI thought Star Wars arcade also got a "bonus disk" game cube release?
Nope. That's the '80s Atari game. What got ported to 32x is an early '90s Sega Model 1 game. It's the predecessor to Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. This, not this.

I got my 32x for free and still feel like I overpaid. That said, the only games I have for it are Doom and Star Wars Arcade. Doom isn't the worst port, but really, there are so many other ways to play it that are better. Star Wars Arcade is decent, but it's pretty hard, though it is the only console port of a pretty obscure game. Apparently there were barely any cabinets in the US, which is odd considering that it's a Star Wars game. I thought it was a port of the '80s Atari game when I bought it.

I also already have this game, so I'll just jump in to say it's pretty great.

I've heard you can just connect the GunCon to the green wire on component cables to get the necessary sync, but my PS2 is hooked up to an HDTV right now, so I haven't tested it myself.

CIB is nice, but I'm not willing to pay a premium for it. I was quite happy to buy a copy of Saturn Bomberman in a generic CD case because the disc was in good condition and it was selling for $2. I've got a loose copy of Guilty Gear I stuck in an AOL case. As long as the game works, that's the most important part.

Since Mike's magazine was discussed in this thread, I thought folks might be amused by this e-mail I received the other day:

QuoteThe Future of RETRO Magazine and Resolving Pending Issues.

Hello Guys,

This is Eli Galindo, some of you may have heard of me as I am the founder of Piko Interactive, (as well as running Wisdom Tree).

I am reaching you now because about a month or so ago Mike Kennedy's business went bankrupt and I bought most the assets. In the sale, I got gamegavel.com, RETRO websites, RETRO trademarks, the back catalog of the magazines as well as content and artwork for the Retro Magazine.

Mike mentioned that he was not going to be able to honor refunds or new issues to people that had pending ones, as his business was broke and will be shut down. Money earned by the sale of the assets would be used to pay writers, creditors, etc that he owed money, until it runs out. However, In an effort of re-launching the magazine in good faith, I am working in ways to make up for what was not given to you.

I have a list of people that have 1 issue pending and another list of people that have 3-4 issues pending. I am brainstorming ideas to do right by you as I'd love to keep you as members and subscribers of the magazine.

One of the things that I am working on to get you to make up for your loss is issues to other magazines. I am friends with the guys that run Megavisions, they are a great and professional team and are growing their magazine successfully. So I am working out a deal with them (that I will pay out of my pocket) to get you download keys for their Megavisions Magazine editions. You will get your pending RETRO issues in Megavisions digital download keys. Their issues are special as they are animated an interactive! They are not just a PDF download.

In addition, I am planning to re-launch RETRO magazine with issue 13 (hopefully to come out digitally in October). You will get this digital download for free as well. Other things I am brainstorming is digital downloads, may be steam games as well as coupon codes to other retro stores; you know, something that really makes up for any loss you may have.

We are planning a lot of great things, a new fresh take on the magazine and what a retro gaming magazine should be. A lot of writers and staff will stay and some people that had left during the Coleco Chameleon charade will come back. Also, I plan to bring new faces to inject new life to the magazine.

Also, I'd like to make very clear that Mike Kennedy is NOT and will NEVER be in any way related or involved with the magazine or gamegavel moving forward. I am 100% owner of these properties now and plan to turn them around and make them successful the right way.

I hope you guys understand, and I can make up for whatever you may have lost in the shutdown of Mike's business.

There are a lot of great things that will be done differently from now on.

If you have comments or questions, please reach out to me over this email address. I hope we can keep this conversation between us for now until the Magazine is ready to be re-launched.

Cheers!

Kind regards,
The New RETRO Magazine Team

I'm having a hard time coming up with anything someone else hasn't already suggested, but I will say Cool Spot is a totally decent game, which you wouldn't expect considering it's based on the 7Up spot. Also, if you do go the EverDrive route, Treasure made a four-player Yu Yu Hakusho fighter that's really good. They revisited the engine for their Bleach fighters on DS, and it was clearly an influence on Guardian Heroes.
#22
The Guardian Legend? Wasn't too expensive a couple years ago, though you never know with NES prices. It's actually only part shmup, but you can enter a password to skip the overhead segments if you don't want to play them.

Quote from: Johnpv on 04/03/2017, 10:53 AMI like the characters, and the story was typical Ys fair, but the gameplay, at least on the PS2 one made the game feel a bit more like a chore.
I don't remember having any of the same issues, but it's been a while. I was playing using a code that switched the graphics back to 2D, which I wouldn't think would have affected the gameplay, but I suppose it might have.
#27
Black might fit the bill for a shooter. You don't have a button to open doors. You just use your shotgun. It's actually a PS2/Xbox era game, but some quick internet research says it's one of the original Xbox games that are playable on 360. For racing, I'll second Burnout Revenge. You can knock cars out of your way by rear-ending them.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 02/11/2017, 03:19 PMWhat I meant regarding Bleam was that their BIOS was legal but bad and needed to be constantly fixed one game at a time to increase compatibility. This is what I vaguely remember.

I remember Neo Geo emulation being like that at some point.
Ah, okay. I can't say I remember, but it's a general pattern for emulators, so you're probably right. The deciding factor today is probably how well documented the BIOS features are. With enough reverse engineering already done, it may be relatively easy to put together a working replacement. I'm pretty sure Bleem! was starting from scratch.

Since you mentioned it, now I'm remembering NeoRage taking a half-hour to load KoF '97, before it even had sound. I actually thought it didn't work, since it'd go to a black screen with no indication that it was doing anything. It wasn't until one day where I had to walk away from my computer and came back later to find the game running that I realized it just took a long time to start up.
#29
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 02/09/2017, 04:52 PMBleam didn't use a real PS BIOS but it was also custom written on a game by game basis, IIRC.
No, it was general purpose, though I don't remember how good the compatibility was. I want to say I had problems with some games, but it's been a long time.

You were probably thinking of Bleemcast, the Dreamcast version that did have multiple releases, each customized to a particular game. I had an actual PlayStation by that point, so I never tried any of them.

If I had to guess, I'd say these are Chinese bootlegs. Anyhow, one of them is Magical Drop, which I believe is supposed to be pretty good. I think the last one is just an audio CD, as it seems to have a track list on it.

I'm kind of ambivalent about owning them, but if you want to consider me eligible, I can promise to grab some video of them if I win. Assuming you actually want me to, and that they are PS1 games.

EDIT: Oops, looks like you already knew that was Magical Drop.
#34
Played it as a kid. Hated it. I will say it's not the worst NES game I've played, as I also played Total Recall. It's definitely better than that.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 12/13/2016, 09:44 PMThe problem isn't the d-pad as much as it is a slippery as fuck case. I have a hard time really jamming on a PSP like it was a SNES pad.
I don't recall ever finding it quite that slippery, though I have accidentally flipped the power switch tons of times. Good thing it just puts the system to sleep.
#38
Quote from: crazydean on 12/13/2016, 02:26 PMThe emulation is good, but even though it has the same control layout as the original SNES, it's difficult to play action or platformers for some reason.
What model do you have? I don't recall if later models improved it, but the original PSP-1000 has a lousy d-pad. It's given me problems acknowledging diagonal inputs, for instance.

Quote from: gheebee on 10/29/2016, 03:02 PMA Haunting in Connecticut
I actually hated this movie, though it's probably because I'm from the area where the true story it's supposedly based on happened. The plot features almost none of the real story and the town in the movie bears no resemblance to the actual place. Also, I defy anyone to find a route from central Connecticut to Boston that takes you through massive cornfields.

It really just felt to me like they were doing the absolute minimum to be able to say some script they already had floating around was based on a true story.

Quote from: TheClash603 on 10/20/2016, 02:09 AMDeja Vu is a fantastic NES game.  Loved both it and Shadowgate when I was younger.

You ever play Deja Vu 2?  It feels just like you are playing the first game.
I see what you did there. Anyhow, I actually have that GBC cart with both games. I had planned to play all the way through the first game, which I never managed on NES as I only rented it and never owned a copy, then finally check out the second. Unfortunately, I never got around to it. Maybe one of these days; I need to dig out that issue of Nintendo Power that basically walks you through the whole first game.
#43
Thanks to that screenshot I am reminded. I really liked Deja Vu, though I played the NES port and not the original Mac version. It's basically a film noir adventure game with you as the hard-boiled detective. There are definitely some trial and error moments, though, so maybe it doesn't hold up. I do know it was rereleased on Game Boy Color on a 2-in-1 cart that also included the sequel.

I had a couple Scott Adams adventures on cassette for my TI-99/4A as a kid. They literally took around a half-hour to load. Nowadays you can grab a zip file from Adams's website containing all the ones he made himself which is so small it takes less than a second to download. I don't feel like they hold up.

Anyhow, I think the standard recommendation is Phoenix Wright, which I'm pretty sure you can get on your phone nowadays. I got distracted before getting too far, but I liked what I played and the series has a good reputation. Speaking of stuff I played on DS, I remember liking Touch Detective, though that was probably more of a straight-up adventure game.

If you do want to play some text adventures, you might want to check out http://www.ifarchive.org. It's all user-submitted, but there's actually some really good stuff there, and you can't beat the price.

Like Keith said, you just need to be able to tune to channel 95 or 96. The problem is that a lot of US TVs didn't. That said, an easy workaround is to use a VCR, as many did tune that high.

I wasn't 100% sold on Brutal Legend's gameplay, but I have to say that any time I got to just cruise around listening to metal I was glad I got the game. All the cameos from famous performers were fun, too. I especially liked Ozzy as the guy that upgrades your car.

The SNES is the first system I bought with my own money, so that makes it a little extra special for me. It definitely represents a point at which I formed a lot of my tastes. Playing Street Fighter II started my obsession with fighting games, and it had RPGs I actually liked after having hated Dragon Warrior on NES. Definitely a great system with great games.
