I also backed the Kickstarter/Indiegogo/whatever it was. But I didn't get the LE because I generally don't like LEs. Who has room for a bunch of LE stuff?

Yeah I think if a proper flash cart does indeed come out I'll pick one up along with some RGB SCARTz. I don't want to actively collect for it.

Thanks, that did the trick! My Alcohol complains that its trial is up (thought I had a good version, guess not) but I'm more used to IMGBURN anyway. I figured TurboRip was made for a reason, that reason being that other rippers weren't very good. But I guess TurboRip is still the best if you want to apply translation patches and whatnot. Or do simple things like fix that one underground track in Shadow of the Beast where you get hiss noise that comes in after 4 or 5 seconds because someone whoopsied during the mastering.
#4
Anyone having issues running games ripped by TurboRip? I ripped two games (Ys IV translated and Castlevania Rondo of Blood Translated) from discs I have (the later was given to me at a con I think). I get LOAD ERROR no matter what. Can anyone recommend a good ripping program that will rip to BIN/CUE? The SD3 seems to like that.

We haven't done a Lynx episode but I really liked Blue Lightning on a real Lynx. The only way we could do an episode now, of course, is via emulation. As for the Jag yeah there are a few decent games on it and a few I'd still like to try (Rayman, Super Burnout, the other ones CrackTiger mentioned, etc) but overall nothing that makes me compelled to own one. I hear they are working on a decent flash cart for it finally so maybe that will tempt me.

PS - The Jag CD was awful. I had a friend who had it and the Blue Lighting game on that was much worse than the one on the Lynx. I couldn't believe it.

EDIT: I could just see someone complaining "The PC Engine sucks because it needs more games like the Jaguar had". That legit wouldn't surprise me. And it absolutely amuses me!

Voultar looked at it and he said: "C60 A.C. couples composite video. It doesn't have anything to do with csync."

I'm curious, what makes you think it's for C-sync? Either way though, it should be flipped.
#7
Reverse the capacitor marked C60! If you use composite video or sync-on-composite for your RGB cable it could cause issues over time. Just flip it around. It's mounted in the wrong orientation. If you use C-sync for your RGB cable then you should be fine.

There are sound issues for CDDA and ADPCM that go above a certain level. I'm confident that the same issues would be present in HuCard audio if HuCard sound could go loud enough. Coury from My Life in Gaming and I are working with TerraOnion to resolve this issue which they say they can fix with firmware. But it will be a few weeks because there's some nonsense going on in Spain now, some holiday or something else that they do.

Quote from: guest on 03/22/2018, 02:03 AMSo, why didn't you help him with the episode to make it more acceptable by your standards?
That info you just posted would have really helped.
He didn't ask.  He's probably not attentive enough to realize I even like or know anything about the MSX.  Or have developed a game for it.
^^This. But honestly even if I did know, I wouldn't have asked YOU because of your always-pissy attitude towards me or anything I do. I truly do not believe you could be friendly towards me, especially if you knew your PCEFX peers knew about it. Hell, even if the episode was 3 hours long, included all of the info you presented and met the ALL standards of the elite collectors, any possible positive feedback you'd give the episode would surely be in the form of a backhanded compliment, at best. It's who you are.

But what people need to realize is that this episode wasn't made for people who already know everything about the system. Nor can we possibly include every game worth mentioning (nor should we). There's always the future. I don't know everything about the system and you know what? That's OK. I'm always willing to learn more. And I will. But I don't think I represented the console poorly. I never felt it was our best episode but it's not bad. I'm not gonna make any excuses for it though and I'm happy with it. I'm asking people for lots of feedback both in the video and in the comments section on which games to include next time. Lots of great responses so far! The video is doing well and people are enjoying it.

Haven't any of you guys picked up the 3 volume OST for Ys 4 TEH DAWNx0rZ of Ys? It has CD arrangements of your favorite shop and town tunes from Ys 1 by Ryo Yominwhathisface who did the arrangements for TurboGrafx-16 Ys 1 and 2... PC Engine CD version too (that's a different console)!

I never use iTunes as a means to rip, but I will let iTunes see the CD at least once in case someone has submitted track names. I have a Mac so by far the easiest way to rip CDs is by clicking on the mounted Audio CD icon on the desktop and literally just dragging the AIF files to a folder. They'll play natively from that or you can compress them later using iTunes or whatever. I usually compress into Apple Lossless which the iPod will play back just fine. But you can also do MP3 if that's what you desire. I recommend 56kbps because the sound quality will make you nostalgic for the Napster days of slurry-sounding MP3s.

Beat Ys 8 a little over a week ago. Fantastic game! There are a few nitpicks I have with it but they are not huge nitpicks. I'd recommend it to everyone so that future Ys games may also be made. This is probably the best Ys game since Ys 4 on the Turbo, and I only hold the first 4 Ys games as high as I do because of nostalgia. This is so much more than those games. 33 hours for me to get through, but look at 40 or 50 if you wanna do everything and get the "true" ending where Adol and Dogi make out. There is no reason not to buy this game.

My Turbo CD has gone for months unplugged without losing saves. In fact I don't recall it ever losing saves due to non-use. That supercapacitor is the shit. I don't know if you only need to plug it in or actually turn the system on, but if it's the latter you only need to turn it on for less than a second and the supercapacitor's topped off again. Love it!

Rene of dbelectronics has posted an article on his site about possible dangers of using flash carts with your system. Some are fine, others are not. Worst are multicarts.

His article is here:
wayback://db-elec/dangers-of-3-3v-flash-in-retro-consoles/
IMG

Quote from: ReneThe use of 3.3V flash in retrogaming can lead to serious problems. Following a lengthy podcast discussion on the subject I felt it was important to elaborate on the matter by:

  • Giving technical explanations of the problem
  • Addressing common rebuttals
  • Listing devices which exhibit this problem

Let me be clear that using 3.3V Flash in a 5V system in of itself is not inherently bad; it can be done properly using level translators such as what has been done with the SD2SNES. What is bad, and what I am speaking out against, is directly connecting 3.3V Flash to 5V buses without proper interfaces such as level translators.
The 2nd version of the Turbo Everdrive is fine. The original isn't. Of course I have the original. Looks like I'll have to rebuying newer revisions of some carts and I hope Krikzz updates some of the others which have no good revisions, like Mega Everdrive X7, Master Everdrive etc etc. Apparently the Darksoft Neo Geo SD thingy is good. Not sure about the NeoSD.

This deserves its own thread. People who are buying pre-modded systems off of eBay probably won't wander into the repair/mods subforum first and very likely don't know about the glorious DoujinDance. This video from Voultar opens up one of DoucheinDance's systems that was sold for $400 on eBay and fixes everything. Watching him work is kind of like watching and listening to a vulgar Bob Ross fix PC Engine stuff. Very satisfying to watch this get fixed and enjoy his techniques. Yes, it's sexual.

That would be awesome. You're old, fat John Madden. You must go on an adventure to accomplish... whatever. You fight battles and all of your weapons are tools from Ace Hardware.

Bonk is great because it's the story of a caveman who falls in love with a moon seal. Promotes bestiality. What more do you need? I think they broke the flipping mechanic in the 2nd and 3rd games though. I like the second game because it has good music.

Night Trap is better than It Came From the Desert. But they both suck in that super-cheesy way that makes them great. I bet if Limited Run Games were releasing a 25th anniversary remaster of John Madden Duo CD Football you guys would be more stoked. :P

I had heard that Limited Run Games was surprised by the reaction to Night Trap and will likely increase their order with Sony for the print run. The 32X version I guess is only for followers of their loyalty program or some such thing. Personally I always preferred the original artwork that looks like a 60's B movie. The redone stuff with Dana Plato on the cover always looked bad. It uses the worst picture of her possible and it's just not composed very well.

Is it really a VHS transfer? Looks a lot better than that to me from the video I have. There is some tape damage here and there but I think it's from maybe Betacam SP or regular-ass Betacam.

That sounds like an area that was their in the original, maybe where you get the sword that breaks blocks I think?  Or maybe it's something seperate from that in the same area?
All I got was the Hawk Charm or something like that. I'm betting each animal has a charm hidden somewhere. You need all of them to buy the special item that the one shop won't sell you if you're not charming enough. Just a guess though.

I got it on the PS4 because that's waaaay more powerful than the Switch and Wonder Boy 3 needs all the power it can get. There's probably 20 or 30 sprites onscreen at once. Can't risk the flicker and slowdown.
#33
I'm sure everyone has noticed that when you turn the power switch ON on the SuperGrafx a little piece of plastic protrudes from the left side of the system for no apparent reason. At first I thought maybe this would just act as a far less convenient way of powering the system off, requested by customers who hate their lives. But no. I must assume it was for that thing that the SuperGrafx was supposed to attatch to, right? So you don't remove it while powered on? Kinda like how the TurboGrafx-16 and the Turbo CD must be locked together in order to power up. Is PCE the same way with the IFU?.

I've bought it and played 1 hour and 45 minutes so far. I'm on the Lion Man part. The retro mode runs at 60fps unlike the SMS which ran at 30fps because it is a weak little system that's just not powerful enough for the 60fps blazing mega speed.

I doubt they had much of a plan with that video. Just... find out why Lords of Thunder is better than the Sega CD platform. Ask random people. Guy makes funny response because he's confused about Lords of Thunder. Use response more than once because funny is good. Show off t-shirt with In-N-Out employee. Add the shittiest effects using Video Toaster hooked up to Amiga 500. Play Shadow of the Beast. Forget all about Lords of Thunder because Shadow of the Beast is way better because European games are always better. Ride skateboard. Make monies.

A few people have given us stuff. Most let us borrow stuff which kinda sucks because we don't really have enough time to really get to know the system. The exception of course being the X68000, we had that for 6 months.

Preferably decent condition, not mauled by a dog or anything. All I'd need is the console, power supply (US) but if you have a SuperGrafx pad I'll take that as well. Also you're crazy for wanting to get rid of your SuperGrafx. Name a price and maybe I'll bite.

Well then we're back at square one. I'll ask Rene over at dbElectronics if I can pay him to build me a custom cable.

I don't know how many of you had this promo tape. I was mailed one back in the day. I don't know if I still have it.
But you all might enjoy knowing that Tony Hawk was the one who made and edited the video. Tony Hawk said in an interview HERE that he used to do video editing when his income was low. I recognized his voice when I re-watched this video today. So I asked him if he made it. He confirmed that indeed he did.

Thanks ClodBusted! We definitely appreciate it. As for DVD it would not only cost too much to make in addition to the Blu-ray, but it'd have to come on two or 3 discs and be totally re-authored. I've never been happy with the way DVD compression looks and I used to author DVDs professionally. If you have a PS3 or PS4, press the SQUARE button at any time when watching the Blu-ray (except when you're in a menu. Won't work there for reasons that will become obvious).

I wish someone would make IFU adapter cables. I'd buy a set. That way you could hook your US Turbo to your JP IFU and have it safely laying next to the IFU. Reversely, I'd like to see a cable to make JP stuff work with the US IFU. That way I could hook up a SuperGrafx to my Turbo CD. My RGB mod is in my US IFU, so that means I could play SuperGrafx games in RGB without molesting the actual SuperGrafx. It'd look stupid, but I wouldn't be staring at the mess of a console while playing.

I have heard this version has issues since the PS4 just isn't powerful enough to run a strong game like this from 2006 without some frame drops and whatnot. Or maybe Falcom's programmers aren't powerful enough. One of the two.
