Quote from: NightWolve on 06/18/2012, 06:35 PM@cubanraul : Heya BTW! I made the connection that it was you from years ago that had originally started the project. Didn't know you were on this board! Has it really been ~8 years since the project began? I just read the ReadMe and was reminded of that history, back when you came to me for help, man, I guess I did also encourage you, but at the same time, I thought it was technically a waste of time, would likely never get anywhere, nobody would ever be able to (nor want to) do a font-hack for the opening text, etc. yet here we were are today with essentially a fully completed patch (of course, in large part thanks to Konami!!)! Wish I hadn't played this game so much to where I'm pretty sick of it, though the patch did motivate me to play it through one more time at 68%. ;) I didn't save Maria on that run, but I'll try again at some point. Anyway, congrats!
@NightWolve:  Hi, been a really long time.  As of this month it has somehow been a full 8 years since it started.  You helped me see that the process of working on this is what makes it fun and not just the end result.  Because of how much time I've spent with this game it is by far my favorite of the series.

F@*%!
Cubanraul, I have feeling it's the find command coming back to haunt us! ](*,)

For the time being anyone who gets this problem should patch it manually.
I have a fix in mind for the final release.  Should take care of it.

I'll add more detailed error messages in the final release to give people a better idea of where and how it goes wrong.

If you manually apply the ppf and copy the audio tracks over it should be fine.  You'd know pretty quickly if the ISO was bad when the graphics end up extremely garbled.  Right now the patch fails if the copy is not going to be perfect.  An audio track here and there with a slightly off file size wouldn't cause issues with playability or be at all noticeable.

If everything appears OK I'd say go with it.  You wont have the first half of the game play fine and then Dracula look like my little pony or anything.

Quote from: TurboXray on 01/13/2012, 11:46 PMIf need be, I can add a redirect token control code system for longer text strings (points to other places in cdram, but the original parsing routine won't know it's happening - it's inside the hook handler). Email is tomaitheous_at_pcedev_dot_net.
Sent you an e-mail.  Great to see all the unfinished elements coming together.

@muff1n
Have you tried a CDRWIN rip with the BIN/CUE patch?  As long as the ISO and WAV files are in the same folder as the batch file the patcher should find them.  If the file sizes are not perfect you will also see the damaged message.

@Burnt Lasagna
Amazing to read about the new intro font!  Want me to insert the PSP text or has the work already started?  I can plop the ASCII text directly into the old patcher and it would work.  Using the charcode program I wrote should make it a really easy to drop it right in and keep the layout right.

I'm reposting this here from the romhacking.net thread about this patch:
"Have you considered adding a VWF to the game's text engine? I haven't looked at this game's code in probably 5 years, but as best I can remember it wouldn't be that difficult to implement."

There is another font in the game that we have a understanding of which I wish I could use but that is beyond my ability.  Does anyone here on pcenfginefx have any clue?  I would really like to use that font instead of the large SJIS one in the intro especially.  I can automate encoding into the second font but can't figure out how to switch between the two fonts in the text engine.  In the stage select screen we actually got everything to fit and it is the intro I'm mainly concerned with.  It wasn't such an issue back when the translation was abandoned but now that we can actually finish it I'd really like to use the alternate font.

The rest of the games text is actually in images. In order to translate it you would have find a way to extract the image, edit it and then try and reinsert it back in. This would be very difficult and I don't know how you would go about doing this nor does Cubanraul.
Feidian is the tool we used to start dumping & replacing the graphics.  We never got very far with it when the project kind of fell apart back in 2005.  I couldn't get any interest on the castlevania board to continue it (should have come here!) and it had been abandoned until you swept in to save the day.

If anyone is interested in giving it a shot Feidian is still available here:  wayback://sourceforge.net/feidian/feidian-0.90a.tar.gz
You will need PHP installed, not sure if it version specific though.  You will also need the PCE sprite tile definition:  wayback://feidian.sourceforge.net/data/pce16.php.gz

usage: feidian.php -cr pce16,10,1,0x57A300 dracx.iso 57A300

It was a lot of guess work for me to get good results and maybe someone here has more experience.

PC-FX Discussion / Dust/dirt sensitivity

I had the same problem, I used one of those laser lense cleaners and it made every game stop skipping.  I heard the laser lense cleaners can throw off your laser but for the consoles I've used it on it did the trick.
#13
They sadly do not, certain pins on the edge connector where you slide the card in are reversed on each console to prevent games from being played in both.  There is a mod you can do to add a toggle so you can switch between each type but it would be very hard to do on a express/GT.  You'd most likely end up with a bad LCD or something of the like after opening the thing up and messing with it.

Best bet is to go for the unit you'd play the most games for.

Looks like a hentai photo CD, questions at the bottom of the auction seem to clarify it more.
#15
The max you could hope to get for it is $229.67 (average of prices its gone for).  I wouldn't say it is terribly rare but just one of the very best games on the console, which makes it have the highest demand.  You wont see it much on ebay since people like to hold on to it as opposed to how people just want to unload many of the unplayable games.

News / pcengine-fx.com Update 10.14.04
10/15/2004, 07:02 PM
What'd you use to view/extract the images?  Is there a way to edit the images in the games as well?  I'm doing a translation of Dracula X and besides for the intro & level select the rest of the text is actually images (like the level name when you start a new level).  Anyway you can see the progress here:  http://www.shortfilms.tk/

Until I saw the "THE LOST TURBO GRAPHICS" section I really thought it was a lost cause to try and edit/view the graphics.

How do I go about fiddling with the memory manager on the FX?  I got confused overly quickly.

Hey, I noticed it mentioned that there were little demo sort of things made with the FXGA by groups in japan with the FXGA in the past.  I was wondering, are any of these available?

Hey, I'll gladly host the pics Jammaniaclord.

EDIT:  These the ones you mean?:

cdrwin ( http://www.goldenhawk.com/ ) should work fine for making copies.

I wonder how similar the PCFX controller is to past NEC consoles, if its just a changed connector from the 6 button duo pad it wouldn't be that hard at all (after finding the 5 volt and ground it'd just be trial and error after that).  I believe the connector on both the duo and especially the fx are fairly standard radio shack fair so it might be better for me to try and make some sort of adapter.

Is there any pad pinout or info on how the pad actually works?

They just seem mighty expensive and since I have plenty of saturn pads around that would gladly give up their lives in the name of science I figured some frankenstein's monster type pad would be a better solution.

If anyone knows of a cheap place to get a pad or some info on them please point me in the right direction  :)

I've bought from that site a few times, I suggest paying a bit more for shipping to avoid anything wacky from happening during shipping.  Everything I got was in great condition, well taken care of and exactly as described.  I think this site is also owned by them:  http://www.gameforfun.com

Besides for hellish shipping I'd recommend gamechoice.

I always liked that idea, it would be amazing for magic engine and meFX, you could change the registry entry for explorer to point to magic engine and it'd boot right up into ME, using one of those cube PC's like the shuttle wouldn't be half bad either.

I somehow missed the episodes when I first came to the site in its older incarnation and am glad to finally get to see them!  I really liked seeing games I may have played on sega genesis and sega cd being played on the turbo (fatal fury on genesis was just plain sad).  Most of all seeing obscure PC-FX stuff and those great commercials have got to be my favorite parts though.
