Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: FS: Neutopia sealed

I'm in the market for a Neutopia, but to play, so I can't justify paying the sealed premium.

Good luck with the sale.

Keith Courage, do accept hardware sent to you for repairs/mods?

My Duo-R's multi-out is badly loose and the CD drive is starting to show signs of age (it just locked up the system on me during Dragon Knight III's ending sequence the other day). I also might consider a component mod, but I'm mostly looking to get it back into healthy shape.

Quote from: Digi.k on 10/22/2014, 08:03 AMThis reminds me I need to buy the wonder boy collection on XBL at some stage.
Yes!! Get it. It's not every day that a company releases a long unreleased game (the English version of Wonder Boy in Monster Land) and a newly translated game (the English version of Monster World IV) from that era.

Quote from: Digi.k on 10/22/2014, 08:03 AMJust got Adventure island - pce in the post today from japan
I really wish Hudson had put out a SCD version of Monster World IV.

All I know is that the Arcade Card Pro looks much cooler that the Arcade Card Duo.

Alas, it was far more expensive and I eventually found a Duo for a nice price.

Quote from: SamIAm on 10/22/2014, 07:08 PMI just want to reiterate that those numbers are literally what's on the price tags. I have added nothing to them. I just want some cash in my paypal account because I don't have a credit card here in Japan.
I'm not in the market for any of these special releases, but if this shop has any harder to find (or just pricier) regular releases for decent prices (compared to eBay, etc.), I'd be more than willing to fill your Paypal account.

Here's a couple that are on my "fire" list, so to speak.

Cotton
Dracula X
Dragon Knight + Graffiti
Fausseté Amour
Hi-Leg Fantasy
Kaze Kiri
Madou Monogatari
Spriggan
Sylphia
Tatsujin

The first level BGM for Bikkuriman World is constantly popping up in my head.
#11
I feel embarrassed, but I left Crest of Wolf off of my "to buy" list, it should have been there with a nice big [WESTONE] tag.

Okay, now it's there.

Thanks for the reminder and the list.

Quote from: PixyJunket on 10/19/2014, 04:08 PMI contributed to that interview!
Ah, nice! I see your name in the credits now that you mention it :)

QuoteAnd I'm not seeing where you're picking up any desperation or being out of touch in there, not even close, almost all of the questions are pretty straight-forward and the questions on any future prospects are answered fairly candid as well.
It could very well be my own (mis)interpretation then.

What I found odd when I read it was some of his answers towards the end of the interview, openly asking for suggestions, almost thinking out loud maybe? For instance "where to find a good 3D artist?", "Please tell me which game platform is appropriate for MW", and "If 'Aquario of the Clockwork' were released as part of the 'Sega Vintage Collection', would people be interested in buying it?". It felt strange, and a bit insecure, to read such direct questions from such an experienced game designer. Also, the fact that these questions are not answered by the interviewer, at least in the published version, I think it further isolated his responses somehow.
The interview was not back and forth, all of the questions were eMailed at once and answered in a reply.

Quote from: ultrageranium on 10/18/2014, 05:41 PMThis news reminds me this interview that I read some time ago:
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/wonderboy/wonderboy-interview.htm

At the time it struck me how desperate some answers were. I remember wondering if it was bad translation of something that was too culturally contextualised, or if Ryuichi Nishizawa was genuinely overwhelmed, or out of touch somehow.
I contributed to that interview!

And I'm not seeing where you're picking up any desperation or being out of touch in there, not even close, almost all of the questions are pretty straight-forward and the questions on any future prospects are answered fairly candid as well.

Needs a tuning job of the 3 CD laser-related potentiometers. Failing that, a new laser. Ask for a quote from one of our PCEFX modders: thesteve, turbokon, Keith Courage, etc.
Thanks, I figured it was something about that, but since it plays bought games okay I haven't had a dire need to do much about it. I'll ask around for a tune-up at some point when I can justify doing a few other things to it (RGB mod, perhaps).

Quote from: NightWolve on 10/19/2014, 08:37 AMInteresting finds. I used Borland's Turbo C++ and Turbo Assembler back in my university days around ~'96. That's what I first started to really learn programming with.
I started with Commodore 64 BASIC, but I did a lot with Turbo Pascal and Turbo C++ in high school.

Yup, but lurking more and more everyday as.. certain aspects.. of the forum become more and more prominent.

The retro community threads are still mostly good though!

I found a giant stack at a used game store, that's about it. But given that it's usually rare to see TG16 games at these places, a stack of PCE is still a little bit crazy. They had a few decent games, but their prices were nuts, so I opted to not buy anything, although it may have been worth it if I had games to trade in to them depending on what they gave for credit.
#19
Quote from: Ayce on 10/17/2014, 10:56 PMWow Madou Monogatari looks really cool! I wish that one would be translated.
Is there an active translation community still? Being that it's a dungeon game, I don't know f it would have a mammoth amount of text. If somebody could at least extract the script, I might be willing to poke a friend of mine who may (or may not) want some practice with her translation skills.
#20
There were some hints about the Irem situation before they actually removed games, so I managed to grab Ninja Spirit and Hero Tonma before it happened and I'm very glad that I did, they are both really good games. I can't say I'm missing much from the others removed, though.
#21
I still play mine (through the Wii U though), it's got a great library of hidden gems.

I need to replay The Last Story soon (or finish where I left off, at least) as well as Pandora's Tower.
#22
I am getting ready to pick this up once I see if for a little cheaper.

I would love to try it after the patch too, but my Duo-R won't read CDRs.
#23
Awesome!!

I've read that the original game has some crazy complex mechanics in terms of how items appear and such. Is this being made to adhere to all that or is it more of a "by eye" port?
#24
Quote from: guest on 10/12/2014, 12:23 AMWestone does not seem like a very prolific studio. In fact, I'm constantly surprised by how long small studios manage to hang in there in Japan. US companies seem to fold much more quickly even with higher output.
Apparently, for some time now, Westone was basically just Nishizawa doing small contract work on educational software and some mobile stuff.

Sadly, most of mine are pricey, not because "OMG RARE I WANT," but because they are from a company I love and WHY ARE THEY ALL EXPENSIVE GRAGH.

Madou Monogatari
Spriggan
Sylphia

Some of the (slightly) more reasonable ones.

Alien Crush
Devil Crash
Gunhed
Legend of Xanadu
Legend of Xanadu II
Moonlight Lady
Seiya Monogatari: Anearth Fantasy Stories
Son Son II

QuoteSad news for the Wonder Boy / Monster World fans, the Tokyo District Court is investigating Westone Bit Entertainment for debt. Financial reports indicate the WB/MW developers will file for bankruptcy soon.

Westone's official site has been closed already, while their Facebook account has been left intact since June 13th. Due to this problem, their upcoming software development and deliveries to PSN 6 Xbox Live have been paused, there is also the copyright problems of their IPs that will enter in hiatus.
Pour one out. A piece of my soul dies today.

If you haven't bought the Monster World games on WiiWare/XBLA/PSN, now might be a good time to do it, most especially for the English localization for Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Monster World IV. I figure these would be okay since they were published under Sega, but the wording in the article is a little worrisome.

WiiWare also has the TurboGrafx-16 versions of Monster World II (Dragon's Curse) and Monster World III (Dynastic Hero). Again, I'm not sure if these are "safe," being Konami published (and not technically part of the Wonder Boy/Monster World IP), but you never know.
#35
Oooh, nice raffle for a neat game (Westone!), I'll put a ticket in.

Thank you.

After three months of painful waiting I finally conceding to being screwed on a previous sale for these two games. Shop deleted, no communication, etc. I guess it happens, but during my April PC-Engine buying spree these were literally the two games I was looking forward to the most.

Since these are fairly common I figure I'd put a call out here for them, if anybody can offer these to me for a fair price (and hopefully from the US for cheaper/safer shipping). I've seen them go fairly low on eBay, but I don't know if I want to wait for them to pop up again for low start price and dealing with bidding (and all of the BIN prices are insane).

Oh yes, I'm looking for complete and in fairly good condition.
#37
Oops, looks like I was too late. I gotta stop sitting on threads.

Let me know if you have anything left after eBay.

Winds of Thunder
Soldier Blade
Gunhed
Seirei Senshi Spriggan
Slyphia

Okay so it's a little biased, I'll brush up eventually and (maybe) put out a more varied list later.

Actually, I would just like to support homebrew, so if it's a CD only later on or something, I wouldn't mind.
