Man for whatever reason I am really into Macross 2036. It isn't the best shooter by any means, and I know 0 about Macross. But it's just fun as hell and I love the (fairly simple) boss battles where you're in mech mode.
#2
Baby Jo...damn this game is the suck.
#3
I haven't seen Chuka Taisen/Cloud Master at any kind of reasonable price. Sure would like to get that one but not for 100+.
#4
I know it was kinda voted down or whatever, but maybe it should be Game(s) of the Month. As in, two games of differing types, shooty/pinball, racing/action, whatever. That way we'd have a plan B.

I could be sucking at Hellfire (as I suck at Hellfire) and you guys could be making fun of me. That'd be way more fun.

Man, I got up to about 16 mil last night and it felt like it took an hour. Got a couple extra balls and that kept me going for a while. But I gotta say...I was getting bored by the end. This may be the best score I can generate.

And I am just the shits at these bonus rounds. All I seem to get is bad ricochets and dead drops. I'm not sure what is more frustrating, losing a ball on like the second shot in a bonus round or losing the ball with like, two things left to hit to complete the entire round.  :derpcat:

Quote from: TheClash603 on 05/01/2018, 12:36 PMMay the late Alien Crush voters please refund me for Hellfire S?
I was hoping the 2nd place winner of each poll could maybe be included on the next month's poll.
#7
Jeez i got to 11 mil and I was happy. I hit maybe 15 bonus rounds...and didn't complete ONE.

Quote from: geise on 04/27/2018, 06:44 PMSo, I just noticed there could possibly be a tie. If that is the case I guess it can just be both of those games for the month.
That would be kind of nice. After I suck balls at Hellfire I could play Alien Crush and feel better about myself.

Quote from: seieienbu on 04/28/2018, 05:45 PMIf the people who make a game want to gauge on ebay I think I'm okay with that.
Oh hell if that's him then for sure, I agree.

And these muther&^%$*&^ bees are pissing me off!!!!
Did you Kickstart it, or did you just purchase it after the Kickstarter?  I Kickstarted it, that might be the difference.  Those who just buy using Pay Pal might get a shipping notice perhaps?
Kickstarted, for sure.
#12
I voted Hellfire, cuz out of what I have, it's what I have played the least.

Sent you a PM on Monster Lair and Lords of Thunder.

Quote from: esteban on 04/14/2018, 01:54 PMIt would be easy to make wallet/football today, but that hat is *not* easy to fake. It seems pretty hard to make a bootleg hat like that.
Tobias edition TV Sports Football with a Turbob football replica?

Maybe less crowd appeal it but makes about 1000% times more sense than Dracula X and an energy drink...

Quote from: geise on 04/13/2018, 07:23 PMHow do people feel about like 5 games and a poll to vote before the end of each month?
I would appreciate a poll because even though I have a shit ton of games, I don't have a TED...and really don't want to buy one because I already have...a shit ton of games. At least I would have a shot at playing something I do currently own.
#17
Soooooooooooooooooo....................gotw?
#18
Goddamn Raiden is hard. Once I have the first few levels down and know where to save bombs for, it's getting easier but...damn.
#19
Being bored at work I decide to poke around some of the sub forums I haven't looked in before.

I ordered this a while back and stupidly never thought to see if anyone here was associated with it. To stumble in here and find it is like, ready...if I'm not erect I'm at least semi.

Quote from: guest on 03/03/2018, 02:48 PMI do too, a lot of F1 Circus cases have died at my hands.  The easiest way to get the round stickers off for me is to heat them up with a hairdryer or something and it loosens the adhesive.  Just don't get it too hot ;)
You savage!....F1 Circus is actually cool game! I like all (3?) of them.

(A few of those Peach Boy non action titles have bit the bullet too to fix some of my loosies)

Spines are pretty easy...I actually cut them through to the "grid" plastic on the back with an exacto knife and chuck the little squares that weren't sticking to anything but air. Then I soak it in water. Voila. But those round Hudson stickers, I'm done screwing with them. I used a window scraper on one, slipped, and was lucky to not have to get stitches.
#21
I don't have a ton of those later games with no cases but when I need extra cases I just order yakyuu baseball something or other from Japan for like 7 bucks.

Getting those round Hudson stickers off the back is kind of a pain, now I just leave them on so I know it wasn't original.
#22
Seems to sell routinely for 150+ with a case/instructions. WTH.

I don't mind ponying up once in a while but the game has to at least be...good.

Very cool, thanks.

Can't say I wouldn't like a TG-16 arcade in the corner of my basement.
#24
Quote from: guest on 02/23/2018, 01:47 PMIt's an arcade control panel.
I was really hoping to see a photo of what it belonged to, but maybe I am misunderstanding it. Does it belong with this? I guess that could explain the lack of photos, being a kit.

https://www.tg-16.com/pce_tg16_JAMMA_conversion_kit.htm

EDIT: opening up the manual to that thing, yup, that's it.  Pretty cool.

I apparently missed the insert quarter bit when thinking it was a kiosk thing.
#25
Yar....what did this thing go to? Looks like it must have been a store kiosk panel or something but I couldn't find anything on it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/TurboGrafx-16-Arcade-Turbo-Grafx-Control-Player-Panel-Assembly-USED-2560/273066658980?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

If it was cheaper, like, a lot a lot a lot cheaper, I'd try to make an arcade stick out of it.

Esteban I don't think I should combine bourbon and the Zapper.   :P

I am a little embarrassed as I was fairly stuck on Valis 2 once I lose my powerups late game. And the consensus seems to be...the game is definitely easy. I'll go back to it at some point. But I had gotten sick of it!

Playing Turbografx Cadash last night for the first time, I was shocked to find out there was no password system. I don't know why I was SO sure there was one as I had never played the turbo version, but damned if I didn't think there was a password system. I also couldn't get continuing to work the one time I died (holding button 1, 2, and Down, then hitting Run on the title screen...right?) and therefore I was then kinda drunk AND pissed, and shut it off. Gonna see if I can finish it today before the Superbowl.
#27
Well it ain't that good either!

I finally found a deal I could handle for Cadash so that's the Saturday night plan. Bourbon, and Cadash.
#28
Finally got fed up with Valis 2 and needed to shoot something. Popped in Atomic Robo Kid, which I had not played in ages. Gee I wonder why. Good god could the sprites be any freakin bigger?

Had to wash the atomic ass taste out of my mouth and played Chew Man Fu after that.
#29
All right I am going to soldier on then.

(I feel like such a puny biotch with no power ups tho!)

Quote from: seieienbu on 01/15/2018, 06:01 PMThe last time I played it I killed everything and won on one life.  Honestly?  If you die?  Just start over.  You'll likely save yourself time and suffering.
Like once I'm not powered up don't even bother? Dang! reminds me of R-type, where the first death for me equals *click* system off.

I'm going to try to learn as much of this level as I can and then start over. The first levels are super easy anyway.  I'm tending to grab the wave power up over all others. What do you guys prefer?
#31
Esteban, I'm in level 4 now, am I right that sometimes the best thing to do is just run and ignore combat?

Or do I need to creep like a chump and kill everything without mistakenly going backwards and respawning the enemy I just killed (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)
#32
Ok so the first time I die in Valis 2 ad lose my powerups....the game suddenly seems hard (and borderline cheap with it's enemies/enemy placement)

I thought I hated slimes in Dragon Warrior. Fuck these fuckin things that take 15 hits.
#33
I gotta stop hitting quote instead of edit.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 01/10/2018, 03:05 PMI didn't grow up with the Nintendo version of Ninja Gaiden so I have no Nostalgia for it. With this in mind I prefer the pce version of the game. If I compare the two, I can't stand  how washed out the colors in the Nintendo version Look compared to the PC engine.

this might be because the TurboGrafx was my Nintendo growing up. Meaning if colors don't look as good as the TurboGrafx they can end up looking subpar to me.
Huh. I can't stand the scrolling on the PCE one (which granted doesn't affect every level equally, but it is majorly distracting where it exists) and I think the NES cutscenes and graphics are better overall (surprising to me as I expect the PCE visuals to be notably better, maybe that's my mistake).

You're prob right about the color but I'm reverse of you in childhood systems so NES color to me seems ok.
#35
Quote from: guest on 01/10/2018, 01:30 PMThey could just accept games as-is and be honest with themselves about how any genuine enjoyment they derive comes from their compromise of working around the broken or poorly executed aspects of these games. Instead they tend to dismiss comments from people prefering non-gilded games, particularly rival titles (like Ninja Gaidens for non-Nintendo platforms).
I know what you are saying and think it is a valid point, but maybe a bad example. If someone told me they preferred the PCE version (which I think is the only one that is actually the "same" game, could be wrong there) , I'd have to ask them why, honestly. I'd think the NES version was leagues better even without my Nintendo tramp stamp.

My Duo came back and Keith got the CD drive working and quiet as a mouse. It's back to peak sexy and I even got some new games from him in the deal. Played some Valis 2 in last night, pretty fun, if pretty easy (from what I played). Hope to play Splash Lake tonight.

I think my NES is jealous. It knows the king has returned.  Bow to the king, bitch.

Quote from: guest on 12/30/2017, 01:02 AMLegendary Axe II comes to mind, although I haven't played it in a few years. Maybe i'll check it out again soon and have a new experience. Just remember the backgrounds all being dungey, and didn't hold well compared to the 1st game.
I'd likely choose this one too. Dark graphics, removes the cool mechanic of the first one, and is balls hard/cheap near the end. If only it was more like the first.
#38
None. System is out for repair.

Sometimes I look over my games and rub the spines labels longingly tho.
#39
Ha!

Yeah I don't have the TG version (wish that I did) and the SNES version kind of embodies exactly what you think of for SNES shooters. Slowdown, bland graphics, the whole magilla.
#40
goddamn Masahiro and  his ramen!!! :P Was playing Raiden on Snes (eww, I know) a few days ago and the power ups kind of do the same thing. Freakin' annnoying.

Do like Tiger but Avenger is the superior PC Engine heli shewty IMO...
#41
Beat Twin Bee last night. Used all my continues (5, ahem) to do so but it's a fun, if kinda slow,  game.

The bells kind of drive me crazy as a power ups/point system. Some games I just can't catch ANYTHING or time my shots right to get them to the right colors, last night I did ok.
#42
Yeah I'm in CT and in some of our, er, more urban zones it is still fairly common for abandoned warehouses to get broken into and the copper pipes/wiring stolen.

QuoteWho would cut the cord off an old TV and why?
I've done that. Maybe not a TV, but other things.
That and a trip to HomeDepot is a cheap extension cord. Especially when you need one
about 6 inches long for a power brick.
But WHY?
Some of the older guys I work with used to do that with stuff they thought had become a fire hazard (they repair shit here). Basically it was like saying "don't bother, I'm busted/dangerous".
#44
I was playing this last night....does anyone get anything BUT the red weapon? I got the yellow once but the damn thing changes so slow I never risk seeing past that. And the yellow side weapon one kind of sucked.

AND WHY DO THE FUCKING "S" SHOT POWERUPS FLY AWAY FROM ME!!!!!!
#45
NES
Turbo/PCE
N64 (tons of the games are ass but I put more multiplayer time into a small handful of games on that system than into any other system period)
Atari 7800 (basically for a great version of Joust and 99% 2600 compatibility)
#46
jeez I didn't even think to clean the lens...I've never done that with any CD tech. Plain dry q tip? some alcohol?

I'll see how long I can put up with this. A few more messed up games/lost hour of play is really going to try my patience.

Quote from: schweaty on 10/15/2017, 12:20 PMThis could probably be fixed with some pot tweeking
Is there a VERY visual guide on tweaking this pot anywhere?
#48
Quote from: Keith Courage on 10/15/2017, 02:39 PMI do replace the lens with a new one if it's bad. I can't remember when you got the system from me but I'm sure I thoroughly tested it and all was working great at the time. you are always welcome to send the system back to me so I can adjust the lens or replace it.

also, has anything changed with where you use your system location wise? the reason I ask is because sometimes Duo CD drives can act funny when placed next to other CD drives.
Oh heck Keith I've had it almost two years and this just started this week, so I am sure it is just a normal use thing. It's been working 100% until now.

(Haven't changed the system location or anything though)

I'll roll with it for a while and see what happens. Maybe I crack it open and tweak the pot, worst comes to worst I'll send it to ya for service.
#49
Crap! Thanks guys. Recaps already done (I bought this from Keith recapped, LOL) so I guess I'll just see how the CDs play for a while. It's a very inconsistent problem right now.

Part of me wishes it would just shit the bed so I could send it out (Keith you do new lasers?) because not knowing if I'm going to get screwed progress-wise mid game on a load screen really sucks. ALmost makes me want to stick to hueys ANYWAY.

New thing as I've had the unit a couple years and it's been solid....was playing Super Air Zonk last night, played first three stages left to right, then selected fourth stage. Music continued to play, but it never loaded.

Disc continued to spin up, make a noise, then stop, and didn't sound awful, but then it repeats over and over. I waited almost 10 minutes and finally turned it off.

I then had a similar problem with Dracula X (PCE works repro version) also.

But then I played some random CD games (Addams Family,  can't remember what else) for like 20 minutes each and they all seemed to load OK. Addams Family loaded all those shitty audio clips like a champ.

Any way to figure out my issue here? Do I have a bad gear? I've read that can be an issue. Laser alignment? Any way to further diagnose this so I can fix it or get it fixed? Thanks.
