Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

Quote from: lkermel on 09/01/2007, 04:24 PMMaybe what I took as a crash was the actual ending
I really wanted to finish it to see the end credits and staff behind the game...
That could be true, the ugly pixel graphic of your ship in the background really does look like a crash! The only thing you see is a stinky little report from the ship like "I found out the cause of the problem.... it was some space mutant from planet XY.... I shot him in the ass."  Then your mothership picks you up and the Game over screen appears, rofl, as if you haven't seen it enough!

Hi 'n welcome Tablet, hope you enjoy your new system! IMG

Quote from: lkermel on 08/31/2007, 10:41 PMBy the way, I finished it on an emulator and the game crashed right after the last boss... I don't think I'll ever be able to finish the real game, but if someone does, I'd be interested to know if the problem is coming from the dumped Rom (or the emulator), or from the actual game...
I've played it through (no 1cc though) and the game didn't crash. Instead you see a REALLY lame ending. Maybe the crash is the better choice, haha

Image Fight simply rox but it's very annoying if you don't want to spend quite some time to get into the game. You have to remember a lot of enemy pattern by heart, else you don't stand a chance, just like R-Type.

Holy guacamole, I thought my CD-Rom had died today!! When I inserted the game for the first time, the disc simply didn't start to spin. After some Run+Select, Run tries, the disc was still not moving at all. Reminding the Duo incident whose CD-Rom drive had the same cause of death, I was cussing for maybe half an hour like a crazy maniac before I finally decided to open this little stink piece and try to fix it. I just opened the drive and gave those two white wheels as well as the yellow one a little kick in the ass by manually forcing them to turn around. With little hope I tried again and was very surprised that the disc was now moving! I guess the wheels slightly stuck together, maybe they had not been moved an inch for too long.
Well, it's probably the most boring story ever, but I had quite a shock today!!

It depends on what you're looking for. Toshi has sometimes really good bargains on some games, mostly in the sell-out section. Furthermore he's number one when it comes to sealed stuff or rare games.
#158
Be sure to give http://stores.ebay.com/DREAM-STARS-JAPAN a try. The prices are usually not very cheap but he has some quality stuff and he's pleasant to trade with.

Hm, tough decision between Final Fantasy VI and Daimakaimura, but since there is no game other than Daimakaimura which I played through 100+ times , I think I go for that!

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 08/05/2007, 07:42 PMI think that if you have infinite cash (and space) the SGX+CD is great, but for the more practically minded it isn't even worth the space it wastes. This goes double for people just starting out like this guy is.
I've never meant to recommend buying a SGFX to someone who just got started with PCE stuff. But even if you think the SGFX sucks atm, you will sooner or later come to a point where you got most of the finest (Super) HuCard / (Super) CD-Rom(2) stuff. By then (the latest) you will consider buying a SGFX to play three very good games. If you like these games you will certainly get this design award winning console much sooner!

C'mon, three of them are among the best games for the PCE and really worth to buy the SGFX system!
Um...what? I've played all the SGX games (I think), and I can barely even remember what they even were. Makaimura seemed to best to me, but if I actually felt like playing that one I'd just buy the Genesis one for $10.
Rofl, I wonder HOW you've played them. Eyes open? Aldynes is a top grade PCE exclusive shooter, a little hard but very fun to play. 1941 and Daimakaimura are good ports from the widely known arcade games. If you've really played Daimakaimura for both the MD and the SGFX you'd agree that the SGFX version is by far superior.

Avenger is a fairly good game, not great but certainly not awful either. If you're a fan of shooters then it's a must buy. The limited control of the bullet stream is really innovative and you won't find a better game with the name Telenet on its cover
The comparison with Legion is way out of line, Legion is an offspring of the devil himself which nobody with even a little bit of brain left in his head ever played for more than about 1 minute.

This is a great application! I plan to release an updated list for this program which will cover more than 700 games. But I've got no time to do this atm :(

Does anyone know where to dl the HuCard version?

Here are some of my favourite moments which come to my mind atm.

M*****feckin' Ganon, the first time I faced him without having upgraded the arrows, but he pushed me into the hole pretty quickly anyway. In the end, he didn't stand a chance against elnino-sama!
IMG
zeldadungeon.net/wiki/Ganon_(A_Link_to_the_Past)

Final boss of GoT, my heart was beating like crazy!
IMG

FFVI, final fight against Kefka, very impressive, he was way too easy though.
IMG

FFV, hardest feckin' boss I've ever seen in any game I've ever played! The first time, I walked through the last maze for about an hour just to get slashed down by this ass within minutes. When I finally thought I had beaten him, he transformed into NeoExDeath and sent 23456456 Meteo spells at my party within one turn! Of course I was going down again. It took me like 15 tries to beat him, I think I really learnt cussing thanks to him.
NeoExDeath-SFC.jpg
/1124880846.jpg

Gunhed bubble level, beautiful graphics!
IMG

Daimakaimura, probably my most favourite game, there was a time when I played it through twice a day for months! Loki's just great, like all the bosses in this game, if you stand on his foot and jump when he lifts it, you get very close to his face and are able to shoot him down easily. If you wonder what his penis looks like, there is none, lol. This screenshot seems to be fake, the wizard sends you back to the start of the level if you try to enter the final battle with a weapon other than the psycho cannon. It would be stupid anyway since the cannon is far the most powerful weapon in the game.
IMG

Maybe the best moment in game history, your ship is being chased by a brain! Hilarious!!

Making fun of the GOT soundtrack is punishable by death on these boards...
I'm a great whistler, therefore it's more a homage.
#179
I love the old 2d games but I've to admit that I play 3d games as well. The most important factor for the superiority of 2d games is the soundtrack which is just not memorable in newer games no more. I mean, I've played Ridge Racer 6 for the 360 for 95+ hours but I can't whistle a single song! Maybe I'd remember if I heard them, though. On the other hand, I catch myself a lot whistling a tune from 2d games with hilarious soundtrack like Winds of Thunder, Gates of Thunder, Star Parodia, etc., it's just always in my head! Classic stuff!!
Another important issue with 3d games is the "pick-up-and-play" factor, to use Kitsunexus' words. When I insert a game, I don't want to spend an hour or even read a manual (WTF?!!) to get familiar with the controls, and the presence of a tutorial in a lot of the new generation games (especially shooters) is a clear sign that the controls are not intuitively no more (no offense against tutorials^^). A little pressing around on the buttons to see which one is for shooting and which one for jumping has to be enough!
Last but not least I'm a great fan of shoot'em ups and 3d is just not made for them.

Keep 2d gaming legal!

Afaik the difference is within the tolerance, therefore I don't think such a converter does even exist.

Override is one of my favorite shooters on the engine, although the game is far from being perfect. The graphics are fairly plain but there's a massive amount of action on the screen, almost a forerunner of popular bullet rain games like the DonPachi series! Since I always play with the red shot I have to avoid most of the items in addition to all the bullets, too. Anyway the game is a little too easy imho, it doesn't get harder in the later loops and I think I could play it for all eternity if I had the time.

#188
There is in fact some flickering in the animation, usually when a lot of action takes place e.g. at the second part of level one with the plants, the fire spitting flowers and the vomiting pig. However, your description sounds more like a problem you get when the contacts are not clean or the card hasn't been used for quite a while. Sometimes it helps not inserting the HuCard to the very end of the slot.
It would be cool if you could take a screen shot anyway :)

But with 1941, Aldynes and Daimakaimura you're giving up three masterpieces no one should miss!!
Sure, they're cool, but better versions of 1941 and Ghouls n' Ghosts can be had elsewhere anyway.  (or so I hear - I only have Battle Ace for my SuperGrafx.)
I disagree, let aside the arcade PCBs you won't find better ports for these two games :)

Once you know where the fagbot alien is going to appear you can wait for it in the right position for an instant kill and the effect won't last for more than ~1 second. I once failed to kill it instantly and I had to chase it for about 10 seconds with this eye cancer causing blinking screen, teh worst!

Totally agree! You can actually do every passage of every level without a single power up. Some are extremely hard and you need some practice to beat them but none of them are impossible as I can tell from my own experience.

I like Gradius a lot and it's not as hard as it seems once you get into it and know where the critical passages are.
