10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

FF VI is the best game ever made! I love this one to no end! There are plenty of lol quotes in there like Sabin's "He could be my friend, if he weren't my enemy".

I can hardly imagine someone hating a company that produced classic games like the SF II, the 1942 or the Makaimura series. There was a time when I played through their Daimakaimura port for the SGFX three times a day. Capcom 大好き!!

I tried to patch my Ys IV some time ago but whenever I burnt a CD to play it on the Engine, the system thought it was an audio cd and not actually a game. Nat, when you manage to make it run on the Engine, please let me know.

Another question although it's rather stupid: Are there any patches for the Ys I & II and Ys III games? I know there were released in the US but I just got the japanese versions. 8-[

Seems like the radio repeats the "Pcenginefx Radio" announcement for almost a week now

It was the most legendary logo, everybody knows it, along with the Konami cheat which I think of almost everytime I see it. A tribute!

Quote from: stevek666 on 02/07/2007, 10:06 AMOK, do me a favor and try "Godhead" mode. It's awesome and maddening at the same time! Good fun :)
Mkay, just tell me how to access the Godhead mode then. :)

I tried the invincibility cheat on Gunhed again, this time with the 57 code and noticed that the system crashes differently. Instead of the green flickering screen you get an extremely loud beep while the screen remains black. The noise was so loud I nearly fell off the couch! Furthermore, it was already 12pm so I probably woke up all the people in my house #-o
Didn't get the cheat to work though :(

Quote from: guest on 02/06/2007, 08:15 PMIs it normal for the occassional power up to get hooked on your shot and sometimes stay in one spot for a long time? I saw this happen while trying out Super Star Soldier on Wii and thought that it was probably a bug.
Yes, that's completely normal and no bug at all. These power ups switch between the weapons (I - IV) or the missiles (S,M,F,H). As long as you shoot at them, the display weapon is on hold and you can get it if you want. However, if you keep shooting at it, it will eventually change into a blinker who clears the screen and gives you a continue which means you can restart from where you are once you die and don't have to go back to the last checkpoint. These blinkers exist in Super Star Soldier as well, with the same purpose.

Quote from: GUTS on 02/06/2007, 02:10 PMPublic Enemy had a song where one of the lines was "Good enough to know no endo, threw it out the window, along with the super nintendo".
The song is called Bedlam 13:13 for those who wonder.

From Ice Cube's Friday track: "Smokin' indo, playin' that Super Nintendo, hear a rat-tat-tat on my window."

Quote from: guest on 02/05/2007, 06:00 PMEDIT: I just got the trick to work. You're supposed to reset once the game crashes and then start a just game and you'll have invincibility. Select + Run wouldn't work, so I just used Magic Engine's reset feature to get it to work. Maybe on real hardware you need to quickly turn the power off and back on to do it.
I tested it on a CoreGrafx today and as I expected, it didn't work. After the game crashes I'm forced to power off the system but when I turn the power on again I'm still as vulnerable as always. :(

Thanks for the info, I'll try for myself today. :D

Quote from: Keranu on 02/05/2007, 06:07 PMOh at the intro! I kept trying it on the title screen like in Blazing Lazers. Thanks!
It doesn't have to be the intro, you can insert the cheat at the title screen as well, it worked for me. Maybe you pressed a wrong button or weren't trying hard enough.

Quote from: guest on 02/05/2007, 04:34 PMLooking at one of my PCE trick books, it looks like there is a debug mode that is accessed after opening up the sound test mode ("Music Mode") or something.

I'll have to sit down and relearn the directional symbols before I can translate it. But I'm on my way out the door, so I'll try to post all of Gunhed's tricks later tonight.
You don't have to, just take a look at Keranu's first post and the link there. The cheats do work for Blazing lazers as well as Gunhed except for the Invincibility cheat as I mentioned in my previous post. I tested them a few hours ago. No need for brute force! :D
#219
The debug mode does work on the japanese version as well. The same goes for most of the other cheats on the site Keranu's has provided in his first post. However, don't try to do the Invincibility cheat on Gunhed since your screen will become green and starts to flicker as hell leaving you no other choice than power off your system.

Quote from: Tatsujin on 02/04/2007, 09:07 PM@elnino-kun: yes, I remember that horrible story with your DUO CD-Rom. that one sucked dicks in hell. How did you finally solve it?
Well, the first time the problem disappeared after I had system in the trunk of my car driving around.  The second time I didn't find a solution. I think there's something wrong with the laser, it doesn't recognise the CD-Rom at all. The gears however don't seem to be broken but I'm not too sure either. I resolved the problem by buying an interface unit with a CD-Rom drive and a core grafx. The single system CD-Rom is said to be much more stable than the one integrated in the Duo.
However, there seem to be other people encountering this problem and thumpin_termis mentioned a thread with a fix, so I'm off searching it. Maybe I will finally be able to fix my Duo which would be great because the loading time is much more annoying with the interface unit.
#222
This sucks! Reminds me of the trouble I had with my Duo CD-Rom drive a couple of months ago. It was a hard time not being able to play CD games. :(

Very good news for those who couldn't get their hands on the SCD Chi no rondo. Fortunately, the 2.5D graphics look quite decent this time and not as ugly as Gokumakaimura but I hate playing on the PSP because Sony did somehow manage to screw up both the digital pad and the analog stick of their portable. Otsukare!
If I were a Castlevania fan I would maybe consider buying a PSP and this game but I don't really like the series. Honestly, I don't even have a copy of the SCD Dracula X...

Quote from: Keranu on 02/01/2007, 02:11 PMI think you left something important out though and that is once you collect so many purple orbs, a orb with the Roman number of your weapon will come down BUT you can actually shoot these orbs until they explode and become a blinking orb :) .
Cool, I didn't know that the appearance of these switching orbs (either weapon or missiles) is related to the number of purple orbs you collect!
#226
I played the game yesterday and can confirm that each blinker gives you one continue. I got 9 of them and wasn't reset 9 times. Unfortunately I'm a little out of practice and couldn't collect more of them but I will try again. I think if there is a limit it's going to be 16 blinkers, the same number as the bombs'.

Since I was playing the game I could have tried the debug mode on the japanese version as well but I forgot

great idea. does this one also work on the japanese one?
I have the Japanese version too, but haven't tried it yet. I imagine it would.
great, will try it out tonight when i have some time left :)
Have you tried?^^
#229
As Steve has correctly mentioned, the purple orbs are just for powering up your weapon. Basically a huge amount of them (I don't know the exact number) have the same effect as one orb with the Roman number of your weapon, therefore you don't really need them for powering up. The blinking ones allow you to continue on spot without being reset. I will count them the next time I play the game since I don't know if you have to collect multiple blinkers to get one continue and if there's a limit.

I'm listening to it right now, thanks a lot!

Quote from: Emerald Rocker on 11/17/2006, 08:23 PMThe time trial is designed for "walk up and play this game NOW" scoring contests.  It doesn't work for an un-monitored contest where people can keep trying again and again for a week, because then everyone ends up with the same score in the end.
No way this is going to happen! As Keranu has mentioned, it's a carnival game and although I'm not very familiar with the trial mode I'm sure there are many secret things in there to raise your score, as there are in all the carnival games.

It's definitely a cool idea and I hope we will use the score attack for the competition.

That was indeed a great show! Next time I have to listen to it sooner, I'm always too late with the guessing :(

On another board I usually hang around someone mentioned the shop the same way Digi.k did and after a few days Peter from genkivideogames.com made an account and answered in the topic. Maybe he will show up here soon, too :)

As for the shop, I haven't ordered there so I can't be of any help.

You're right. I don't wanna know what the difficulty levels "Hard" and "Expart" (haha) will be like! Luckily I was able to get past the first level but not much further of course.

No need to be sorry, I have my copy already. Good luck getting to pass the first stage, it's very hard.  I highly recommend using a arcade joystick. :)

I think this shouldn't be much of a problem, I've played the MD version of the game for quite some time. :)
