PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Re: Nexzr
03/10/2008, 04:36 AM
The third mini boss is like the toughest enemy throughout the whole game. I've never been able to beat him without this wide range weapon you get previously in the level. I usually don't go above him but stay at the very left just below the wall. He can't hit you there while your wide range shot beats the shit out of him. Obviously, this is only possible if you pick up the weapon first IMG

Quote from: Tatsujin on 02/28/2008, 03:28 AMi also believe the longer part faces you, but i do it just otherwise.
How about opening one of your 700 sealed SF II copies? It's for the community after all! IMG

I remember now the reason I keep the sleeves with the short side up front. The later HuCard games (e.g. the Hudson volumes ~45+) contain sleeve with two little holes and the corresponding hookes on the case to hold the sleeve in its place. These holes are on the longer sleeve side which therefore has to be the bottom side. :-"
#56
In jewel cases of course! This brings me to another question: Usually, there's this plastic sleeve which has a longer and a shorter side (where you insert the HuCard). For some quite unknown reason, it's crystal clear to me that the shorter one is the up side showing the HuCard front but when I get games from Japan, they almost always have the longer sleeve side up front. Now the question, who rox the box, Japan or me? I unfortunately never paid attention how the HuCard was insert into the sleeve when I opened up a sealed game but I hope someone of you has and can tell me which is the official correct way.
#57
Glad to hear that you've finally got your system. I'm kinda surprised about the service from hit-japan because I have never run into problems with him so far.

It's a pity the game is not boxed :(

You won't find any more flags in my flags folder. I don't remember where I got them, but you get plenty of flags if you do a google image search with a common country abbreviation as search string (uk, jp, etc) displaying only small gif files.

Quote from: nat on 01/25/2008, 10:54 AMHe obviously has the ONLY copy ever made.
I'm not sure about that. A friend of mine had two copies of the prototype a few years ago but sold both of them for 50 bucks because he didn't like the game. Considering this, there must be at least three copies.
#63
Be sure to check out Retro Friends, there was a 10% waribiki for students when I was visiting last November, and just being a gaijin got me the discount, too^^

Btw stay away from natto, it's probably the worst thing about Japan, it smells like horse shit.
#64
I don't like the Momotarou games, I haven't managed to play each of the games for more than about 5 minutes (which includes a 3 minute piss). An exception is the Katsugeki game, the only one really worth purchasing if you're not collecting.

Quote from: nat on 01/22/2008, 09:23 PMAt one point I was going to suggest they add PC-FX games to their site but Tatsujin and el nino don't really seem to be into the PC-FX.
You're right, I don't even own a single PC-FX game, let alone the console. I still have a lot of things I want to implement or improve on the site that the thought of adding the PC-FX games to the database hasn't crossed my mind so far. But this doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in it! The actual problem is that neither Tatsujin nor I do have the time at the moment to make a list of the all the games. Therefore, if someone is willing to help us out, please let us know.

Quote from: rasterfarian on 01/17/2008, 05:55 AMI'm so going to put this place in my blog as an example of yet another forum full of the same retards that mess up most other forums - I got a whole list of them where the same freakshows as your kind are at.
Please, don't do this, you're going way too far now! The people here didn't think about the consequences when they posted and I'm sure they'd have responded differently knowing you'd go so far as posting this forum on a blog.

I'd like to point out that the ISOs smacked down a CD-Rom unit and not a Duo console. If my second option (more missing teeth) turned out to be the truth, the Duo would be the better choice for playing ISOs because it hasn't such a shitty gear and could probably handle the increased amount of work much better. There may be other issues however, I haven't played any burned disks on my Duo since its cd-rom laser has been resting in peace for quite a while now.
#68
The CD-Rom in question is the original japanese version. The notorious yellow gear has some teeth missing but the system has been working so far, the missing teeth resulted only in additional loading time because the the connection between the yellow wheel and the one next to it hasn't been optimal obviously. Unfortunately, I can't tell if there are more missing teeth now then there were before this incident which leaves me with two options:

1) Instant death: The ISO screwed up my laser and would probably have caused an explosion of the system and maybe some other calamities if I hadn't shut off the power.

2) More missing teeth: The ISO made the CD-Rom work a lot more harder reading the disk, thus some more teeth flew off the gear which is now the reason nothing boots up at all.

Either way I'm thinking about what I should do with the next console. On one hand, I'd like to continue playing burned disks to protect the expensive original disks, as I mentioned before, but also to play some stuff I'm currently developing on the real PC-Engine. On the other hand, I do not want my console to get fucked up again by those ISO shit. :-k
#69
Quote from: guest on 01/14/2008, 10:11 AMThat's usually what happens when playing isos and can be easily fixed by manually moving the laser back to the center.
I've opened the CD-Rom and manually put the laser in pretty much every possible position but all that changed was the frequency of the buzz. #-o

Someone has already mentioned this rumor in a previous topic but I couldn't find it and I think the issue is big enough to be discussed in an own topic.

A few weeks ago, I decided to download some ISOs from the net and play these fake ass disks instead of the original ones since I wanted to keep the games which cost me $200+ in utmost uber mint condition. Yesterday, I was happily playing some SCD games with my Interface unit when I felt like playing some Sylphia. I inserted the ISO, watched the whole intro sequence (no problems so far) and was surprised about the huge loading time for the title screen afterwards. Then I realized that the disk wasn't spinning around anymore. I went back to the system card screen and tried to load again but the disk didn't start to turn around. I thought the ISO was fucked up and tried a few original games as well as a music CD but none of them was working. I can't even manually choose a track different from 0 with the buttons on the console which is normally possible regardless whether the system succeeds to access the track or not. Usually, you hear a short klick when you press run and the disk starts spinning but since "playing" that ISO, there is a constant buzz instead.

This incident makes me think that those stinkin' ISOs destroyed my lovely hardware in some way. Has anyone experienced something similar or has an idea why this can happen in the first place?

Everyone knows that the SuperGrafx port is clearly superior to the MD version, no chance against the PCB though. The graphics of the MD port are so bad that they affect the game play significantly, in a bad way of course! In lvl 4 e.g. the appearance of these worms on the ice platforms is not announced by some rocks coming out the ground, they are just there, instantly!

My host has updated the DB to MySQL 5.0 yesterday, without notifying anyone nota bene. Since v.5.0 introduces about 7345345 new reserved keywords, it may happen that you run into an error while browsing the site. I kindly ask you to report any occurring error to me, I will do a major check myself as soon as I'm finished with work. Thanks, folks, and sorry for the inconvenience!
#74
Thanks for your help, nat, I'm sure it was because of the screen resolution that I couldn't see the bug. However, I finished updating the design this afternoon, now there is more space in the main container. I assume this will also fix your problem with the textarea, please let me know if I'm wrong. :)

Quote from: nat on 12/28/2007, 12:06 PMel nino, you have to be logged in and viewing games under "My Collection" (your account). The problem does not show up if you are not viewing games in "My Collection."
I did some tests as logged in user, too, I just happened to take the screenshot when I wasn't logged in. It didn't make any difference though, neither did the page which I viewed the games from (normal list, my collection). I'm kinda stuck now since it's pretty hard to debug an error I can't reproduce :-k

I've tested the site with Safari v3.0.4 and the older v2.0.4, both on an OSX 10.4. However, I couldn't reproduce the error, the page has always been displayed correctly. Here's a screenshot from Safari 3:

That's some serious reverse engineering! =D>
#82
I have never seen one below $30, which still seems like a fair price to me for a copy in good shape considering that it's not a game you see that often.
#83
Why didn't you bid on it?

This gear wheel sucks and has making me really angry several times, shortening my lifetime for about 3.5 years. At the moment all of the wheel's teeth are still there with no damage so far but instead I got somewhat of a thermal issue. Each time I want to load a CD I have to try for about 10 minutes until the disk finally starts rotating. If I turn off the engine and want to play a little later, the disk gets in action smoothly at the first shot.
I'm pretty sure it's the same wheel causing this annoyance because once I opened the CD-Rom unit after not playing CD/SCD games for about a month and manually rotated this wheel. Afterwards there were no problems at the startup!
Giving credit to this incredible as well as spectacular discovery, the people in my town built a statue for me and declared a public holiday by my name.
#85
Thanks for the mail, nat, this looks like real shit and I'll try to fix it asap.
#86
Which is quite logical, considering that I'm not yet an old chĂ´kusoyaji as other people are (names are known to the editorial staff).
#87
Good question, I have never seen v.1.0 - v2.1 in a jewel case so far.

Quote from: elnino on 11/06/2007, 05:23 AMNo, I'm Swiss. We do speak Swiss-German but since it doesn't really exist in written form we use German instead,
:-k how does that work?
Swiss-German is basically a dialect from German, that's why there is no written form. Swiss-German itself has a lot of dialects depending on the region in which you live. Some of them are pretty hardcore and just not understandable if you are not used to it, even for other Swiss people. Therefore I'm kind of glad they don't use their dialect language when writing things. :-"

No, I'm Swiss. We do speak Swiss-German but since it doesn't really exist in written form we use German instead, that's why the page shows up in German by default. Actually I thought I had changed it to English but obviously I haven't.

General Gaming / Re: Bomberman!
11/01/2007, 11:17 AM
We already had this discussion in another thread and I have decided that Bomberman '93 is the best Bomberman game out there. Since people call me Big Mother Brain, it seems like the right choice.

This happened when I first searched for the game on the swiss Google site.

Google Search: Genpei Toumaden
Meinten Sie: Genpei Tomaten
(Did you mean: Genpei Tomatoes)

Very classec!!

Haha, now I see the reason why Tatsujin-aho wanted me to fix this bug within three seconds. Anyway, thanks for registering, I hope you like the site :)  The game list is not complete yet but we are working on it. The US releases will be added as soon as I'm back from Japan which is about 4 weeks from now. Please feel free to tell me your feedback or improving suggestions. As you know I'm not a native english speaker, therefore I appreciate any corrections for words or phrases which are incorrect or inappropriate.

5 Minute: 1,454,300
Nicely done! Here's another tip, maybe you know about this but anyway. There are some plant like enemies which show up in a pair on a water canal twice in the game, on from the left and one from the right side. They are completely harmless and don't throw anything towards you. However, if you stay in the horizontal middle of the screen when you start shooting at them you will likely destroy both of them at the same time which will get you 50k instead of the usual 10k.
