Welcome to the forums!

Air Zonk is another one you should check out! NEC made history when they made the ill-fated mistake to NOT support the system in the states, until it was too late. I never cared for the whole bits war, as long as the games rocked, and they ROCKED HARDER ON THE TG-16/PC-ENGINE!!!!!!!

I treat my DUO like it is gold, and only people who appreciate someone elses property, especially an NEC lover may even touch my duo. I have dedicated a part of my heart to the pc-engine, and it has brought me so many years of happiness, and i could never love another system as much. I like so many game systems, but this one is my all time favorite.

i LOVE shooters, and this system never let me down in that genre. Action games as well were plenty,a nd i loved them on here. Most of all, even if i couldn' stand one genre(like rpg's....sorry gang) i still appreciated that the system had SO much to offer for the casual gamer to choose from, as well as the die hard gamer/NEC freak. Whoever designed this sytem knew that they were making something special, as it seemed like they had lots of heart to make something as simple as an 8 bit machine pump out so much more power to come off as one incredible and lovable piece of hardware. that sound and those graphics ....WOW!  not only that......history was made with the add-on cd attachment. CD games with cinema's and real speech, as well as incredible audio, was never before seen on any other game system.

I love the pc engine, and i thank NEC all the time in my head for making it, as well as keping it alive for so many years when so many other systems were trying to push it out of the market.  Not many systems lasted as long as the pc engine when it ran along side the 32/64 bit market. March 6th, 1999 saw the final release with Dead of the Brain I&II. that's 16 years of NEC gaming material. between hu-cards,a nd cd/scd/acd, you have a HUGE library of whatever you like to play. Now you have homebrew releases coming out frmo Mindrec.com, as well as Frozen Utopia,a nd even never before attempted projects, that were thought impossible, but became possible(albeit with not so great results),such as the "Super Hu-card" cd, that had a bunch of hu-card roms on cd. it was buggy, but MAN what a great idea, and a NOBLE attempt!!!!

Beautiful gaming history lay behind that little precious white box, and i will always be so fond of it.

Enjoy yer kick butt system dude!

I saw this movie in the theater back in the day, and i was SHOCKED and amazed tht was in the movie. Recognized RIGHT OFF THE BAT. My old eyes cannot miss something as awesome as an NEC gaming product.

I have one of these discs ripped on my hard drive. I gave the disc to my brother years ago, and he still has it, soi ripped it and scanned it. I don't remember what year it is off hand. I got it free from TTI back in the day, as i used to call them all the time and shoot the breeze, and become real close until they went away and became TZD.

It has Air Zonk on the cover.

Great to see new sites dedicated to our fave system!

I plan on making one with killer flash intro as soon as i learn how to make sites. Might be heading out to ITT Technical Institute. I keep seeing the commercials and and and in need of mre nerdy learning experience on the PC(i Love being a geek/nerd on this thing....nothing wrong with that either!!!!!), so i already have it mapped out in my head, and with my lifetime of art experience it should look GREAT!
#55
I also thought the music was weak. Shame too as the PCE is capable of some killer music.

I was overall still happy they attempted to make a version for the PCE.
#56
The scrolling/parralax was bass ackwards too....frustrating on the eyes. :?

Save states..... that was the ONLY way i was ever gonna play this game again. I used to own it originally back in '92, but it was so hard and frustrating that i wanted to kill someone. I did beat it though. I have the ending saved on my hard drive. Battle Ace i have saved as well.
#58
That would be sweet. But with the emulator for it coming out from the guys at www.magicengine.com , we can play it on there region free. SWEET!

Quote from: TronTo bad, Telenet couldn't be urged to make a new valis for todays consoles.

To heck with that cell phone game crap :P

I agree with you man! I have been saying and feeling that for YEARS now. it would be so SLAMMIN'!
#64
LOL! Darkman breathes again! I miss that site being updated.

www.darkcityproductions.com

VIVA LA DARKMAN! :D

Cool news on a new valis game. Sucks its on a shitty cell phone.
#65
This game wasn't too hard, but i also thought the X6800 version was way better. I heard so much hype over this game before it was released way back when, and it must have been the lingering attachment to the arcade that made people go nuts over it's then upcoming release for the SCD format, as i wasn't blown away wheni borrowed it from my buddy. I DO like it, it's just taht it doesn't seem to capture the excitement/flow of the arcade, or the X6800 version, which was practicly the arcade version to a "t"
#66
Quote from: stevek666Would that be the arcade Bionic Commando or the NES version? The NES version is superior, IMO, but it would be neat to play the arcade version on a console (first time it was ever ported, I believe).

I remember the arcade version rather well. I beat it when it came out and i DID enjoy the arcade version.

When they released it for the NES i bought it without question...was i satisfied...no.........Did i like the arcade better....yes................Did i give the NES version a try.........yes.............did i end up loving the nes version way more than it's arcade version........HELL YES!!!!!

The NES version is a completely different game, but i am glad they took a fun game, and made it WAY more serious and cool! Now if only they would make a new 3-D one for the new systems.
#67
Agreed - same bad guys over and over and it's really lame. I hate any game that does that, and if they do change it up, all it is a outfit change in color only. Was this an arcade game? I ask because i thought it was just a ripoff of Final Fight, and what a bad one, but a good move for TTI/NEC to make a Final Fight clone for their system....just too bad it was weak. The game could have been so much better with the "smashables" and more enemies, and less stiff jointed animation, more moves, faster pace, some parrallax scrolling, better cutscenes,.............redesign the whole game. LOL!
#68
Although i find Cotton WAY better on the X68000 or in the arcades, it's STILL a better game on the DUO than Terraforming. Terraforming is fancy graphics, and fast scrolling, but it's bland, and the last boss makes you wanna throw your turbostick down your throat sideways!
#69
It's the same exact game. Bullwinkle exists in both versions, except the cutscenes are in Japanese.
#70
Interesting enough....the guys from Game Fan have a new magazine out that looks almost like GameFan magazine, and i am trying to look up the name on the internet. My brother bought an issue and as soon as i opened it up, my mouth uttered "Looks ALOT like gameFan!", and i looked at the editors names and sure enough at least 3 of them were indeed from GF. Greg Off is one of them, and he is probably the nicest guy that ever worked for gameFan when it was an importer shop, and as a magazine. Now he is back with some alumni from the said GF days.

http://www.hardcoregamermag.com

Hardcore Gamer magazine is what is called!
#71
I myself have wondered if anyone has modded their case with an old broken duo, or tg-16 with cd attachment.

Would be sweet! :D
#72
I never heard of this. There is a japanese page that has a tutorial to help beat it, but for the life of me i cannot find it. Hopefully it's still there.
#73
That is definitely not Coryoon. Coryoon should be played by all though, that is a great shooter.

I never see those on Ebay. They suck ass anyhow,as i have them.

Half of the women look like the islands rejects that were desperate to buy crack.

Man i thought i was the only one who still is fond of the old DIE HARD GAME STORE from Ventura BLVD. in California. They were the coolest EVER game store in the world, and everytime i called them, they would talk to me like i was their friend, not some stranger they could rob of his hard earned money for some suck ass game.

I too drooled over the ads in the back of EGM magazine, and they were the best ads ever for a game store, thus i started buying import PC Engine CD games from them because of it.

Greg Off was the main one i really liked, as he would talk forever about games, and sell me games based on my personal tastes, and recommend good ones over poor ones, so i didn't waste money, even of it meant they might eat the cost of that game if it never sold. Honest as heaven those people were. Julie Seagal was another kind person, and new her shit about games. Those two were the ones i remember the most. I did talk to Ki once, but that was it

Dave Halverson owned the store i believe, and started up GameFan magazine for the die hard gamer. IMHO it was the best gaming mag ever. Great color, great articles, airbrushed artwork, lots of pics of import games, "The Graveyard", European games, it had it all, and covered game systems EGM didn't/wouldn't.

Unfortunately GameFan went belly up, but Dave Halverson still is in the gaming mag industry, and you might have read his magazine but didn't know it. It's called "PLAY" magazine. My brother loves it, but i think it's pale compared to GameFan. I think he might have married Julie Seagal, as there is a Julie Halverson on the editing staff, and i think at the time DIE HARD GAMES was in business, they were dating.

DIE HARD GAMES was truly the best import store there ever was, and there hasn't been a single one ever since that has even came close.

If anyone happens to know Greg Off, let me know. I have been interested in finding out what he ended up doing with his life when DHG closed.
#77
Yes believe me, this game sucks. Too hard. I accidentally beat it years ago when it was first released, and was trying to figure out a code/easter egg during the last 3 bosses(yes there are 3 last bosses to beat the game), and i became invincible to the bullets they shoot.

The ending is pretty good too with some nice artwork, and a cool rock song during the end credits, with digitized stills of the programmers(or could it be the band that made the song-who knows?).

There is a cheat to see the ending without beating the game or even starting it, but i would beat it at least once if i were you.

www.cheatbot.com has the ending cheat for anyone else interested in seeing it without playing it, or has played it, and could never beat it, and gave up.
#78
I had a quest in the last quarter of last year, to beat all the super grafx games i never beat since 1992 when i owned a SGX, and crushed GnG, and 1941.

I have beaten Battle Ace(fucking hard), Granzort(even fucking harder), and Aldynes(not too bad except the last boss, but there's a tutorial on the net on how to beat it.).

All games were ONLY possible for me, with Magic Engines save state feature, otherwise i would not have even attempted these games ever again as they are too impossible. I still have the save states for anyone wanting them i believe, and i saved the endings as well. GranZort's ending was lame, but the other two were decent.
#79
Damn Sprout! Those screenies are different from the cd version. Very interesting buddy. I am interested in how you obtained a copy of that card game. I remember it going to be card then scrapped for cd. Let us know. The romz for that would be killer to have. :D
#80
Load times on the emulator aren't so bad.
#81
WOO HOO! Another new episode! Thanks alot Aaron! :D
#82
That Battle Royale looks decent, but plays so stiff and shitty.

I was never too fond of Hit The Ice for any system. Which reminded me of Battle Royale for looks an control.  I still say Ghost Manor is the worst.

Yeah this indeed is a great site! Thank you so much!
#85
The short controller chords, and the multitap for more than one player was my peeve as well.
#86
This game plays like a brick. And the repetiveness of the enemies, and bosses is atrocious. Total waste of Arcade Card format. Sound effects kick ass, but other than that, the programmers really didn't think to tell the artists to draw up more than 3 or 4 characters for enemies, and all they did was change the color on them. Stupid.
#87
Ghost Manor is INDEED a shitty ass game.

Terrible direction! Seems like you wander aimlessly hoping yer doing the right thing to advance.

Sucks ass.
#88
Man that totally blows !

Well at least you didn't lose any data, and work progress, and got a better server for less cash.

Heres to PCEFX.COM!   *cheers*

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!

Kickin' the ass of the righteousness from the fact of the matter. Lovin' it!
#90
Sorry that i can't help you there mate. Look on the net for a walkthrough. Tons of them out there.
#91
Mine still works fine and fits snug after all this time.

This link is dead.

That rare Darius game blows chunks man. I love that series and that game just made me sick to look at and think they were pleased with the end results.   :?
#94
No fucking way man. DO NOT USE anything but CDRWIN. All other formats are well known, but you must not have heard, to screw up NEC images. If you get an iso+mp3 rip of ANY game, chances are someone screwed it up. But for NEC games it's CDRWIN only, if you want to get best images. Seriously, please, do yourself a favor, just use CDRWIN for about anything, but especially NEC games if yer gonna back up yer originals.

Sorry if i come across as harsh, or bold, but i have had to deal with so many crap rips made from anything other than CDRWIN for NEC images, and a few other systems as well.

www.goldenhawk.com

I have been using it for near 4 years now, and love it, and have had no troubles with it making great/perfect bin+cue images.

 :D
#95
Man i wish i knew the answer to that. Is tha tthe converter from Turbo Zone Direct? If so then i am weary of buying one. I want one really bad, but not if it's gonna be able to work.

Post an update on this if you can please.

Thanks!
#96
Really enjoy this feature !!!!! let us have more, or death to your toes !!!

It is so great to see more stuff about the NEC systems such as this.

Bring it on Aaron! :D

News / pcengine-fx.com Update 10.14.04
10/21/2004, 03:42 PM
I encourage anyone in the NEC programming community to help Cubanraul complete this project, as he is the only one that dared/tried to do this as far as i know, and gotten this far. It would be so cool to have a translated image of Dracula X in our collection.

Thank you so much in advance.

One day when hell freezes over. Those are the odds on that one. It is frustrating looking for this game. I have been searching for 2 years, but even worse, i have been waiting to play it since i first saw screen shots of it back in the early 90's.
#99
How the hell did you find that site?!

I swear it went the way of the dinosaur. But yes, those are the pics i talk about. Tha tis a different site than pce.sytes.net, but that was the original site i found those at.

Incredible looking game. Thanks for hosting. :D  :D  :D
#100
The screenshots used to show up on a google search, or a copernic search, but i think he changed his site, or even his webhost, so the search no longer comes up. Trust me, you will want to see these pics. They definitely prove the game does exist on the net.  :D
