If the current theme is going, then yes the pink will be going as well.  It's again way too early to tell you what it will be right now.

Quote from: BlueBMW on 09/01/2014, 01:26 AMNo more HabboLand???? :(
It is too early to say for sure, but most likely HabboLand will be going bye-bye.

As far as keeping the forum content - oh yes, the content for SURE will be remaining - no doubt about that.  Just expect a major theme change (at least).

esteban: That TG papercraft is AWESOME.  It will be on the site for sure :)

And the comment about featuring a section for TG repair/homebrew/etc. - YES - I plan on having a large area for this content on the site as well (in fact, my DUO has the low volume issue right now...).

I am happy to announce that as of 8/30/14, I have begun the dev work on a entire site remake to bring PCENGINEFX into the modern era.  I've been wanting to do this for many years now and I've finally gotten the motivation to tackle this huge undertaking.

My goals for this remake are as follows:

Remember the past, while educating the new
A lot of us here grew up with the Turbo, but new gamers are discovering classic consoles every day.  PCENGINEFX needs to be a place of both remembering what was so special about the Turbo, at the same time educating new visitors about the entire line of NEC consoles.

Get out of the Internet "graveyard"
It has been ~6 years since the last news update (and thus, I've been pretty hands-off on the site as well) and the site design is now grossly outdated (in web standards).  To bring PCENGINEFX into the modern era, I'm creating an entirely new site engine which will feature:

- Fully responsive site design for every kind of viewing experience (monitor, tablet, mobile)
- Extensive, full-site search & game/system filter engine
- Comments section and user reviews on game Hubs for more interactive experience
- Streamlined backend interface for adding content
- Much, much more...

Combine all of PCENGINEFX into one
In short, I want PCENGINEFX to be "the IGN of NEC console sites" - the ultimate goal is to combine the news and features of pcengine-fx.com with the extensive content of the PC-FX World site, Turbo Memoirs, and important forum posts into ONE mega-site.  This will not only save $$$ with web hosting/domain registration, but give everyone the NEC console experience in one unified home.  This will take a ton of work....but needs to be done.

Game "Hubs" for each released title
PCENGINEFX has lacked a database of released NEC games....this will be a BIG part of the new site, featuring all-new reviews (with a modern, multiple person review system), new LARGE game screenshots captured directly from hardware, new gameplay videos scaled to 720p, cheats (old & new!), scans, guides, walkthroughs....you name it, each game will have as many of these features as possible.

Proper coverage to HOMEBREW & HARDWARE GUIDES
The new site design will also allow me to give proper coverage to homebrew games and hardware guides that generally only get announced on the forums.  These items of interest need more exposure and PCENGINEFX will finally be able to do that.

And lastly, yes - even the forum will change and morph into something different............but I don't plan on touching the forum until the bulk of the new PCENGINEFX has been established.

I'll most likely go live with the site once all of the US HuCards/CD-ROM2/SCD games have been added, but right now really can't say when this will be yet.

That's it.  I got a shit ton of work to do, but I'm excited for it.  I'll keep you all updated as things progress.

UPDATE 11/29/2014
I've made a new YouTube channel which will host all of the new 1080p/60fps videos for the pcengine-fx.com site remake.  Following the channel will give you a good idea on my progress.

Please let me know if anyone would like a different time schedule for the Falcom Hour show.  I just chose two random times during the day.  If anything, I might move the 12pm show to 11am or 10am PST, but just let me know.

PS: Also, some of the tracks end abruptly on purpose.  JDK liked to do that for a few songs.
#215
Original post updated with tweaked layout, donation/support info, and most importantly times for the new FALCOM HOUR show!

Quote from: retrocalypse on 10/08/2013, 08:51 PMAbsolutely LOVE it. I've been hoping for a PCE only station as I play classic video game music in my store from open to close. Could you give me a link to donate to the cause? I'd like to stream this a few times a week to mix things up and I'd love to be able to contribute to the station's success.
Too bad your store isn't in Seattle :(  I'd for sure go visit it!

If you (or anyone) wish to donate to the cause beyond clicking on the ads found on this site, you can PayPal me at pcefx@pcengine-fx.com.  I currently support the site via ad revenue from this forum, as well as the tiny fraction I get from my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/pcenginefx), but anything extra sent my way is very much appreciated.

Not a bug - I deleted a fairly large old thread that was identified as a security risk - that was all.
#219
Hi - yes, I keep backups of the forum periodically.  No need to share the backups if you are worried about them being lost.
#220
User icons are now fixed (they were faded way too much to be visible).  I'll see if I can make them a touch larger next.
#221
I'm not liking any other themes out there people, so better get used to this one (colors and all).  I'm still tweaking little stuff here and there, but this may be it.
#222
Still weaking the theme here.  Just re-vamped the banner and I'm working on fixing the user icons next.

Quote from: Mathius on 10/05/2013, 08:57 PMI'm rockin' out right now! Thanks Aaron. No PCFX radio show is complete without the legendary Dungeon Explorer. Those chiptunes are without a doubt my fave on the console.
No problem!  I've been listening to it as well pretty much every day in my car on the way to work and it has brought back many good memories of playing the console when I was young.  I still have more to add (as well as tweaks) to the show, so it isn't done yet.
#224
I personally think the colors reflect the kind of colorful graphics found on the Turbo...nobody else see this?

Quote from: MotherGunner on 10/04/2013, 02:28 PMHi Aaron, I am staying away from tapatalk and using the standard browser on my iOS, I did notice that the feature I use the most (Unread Posts/Replies) is now a pair of tiny icons on the upper right next to my avatar.  (It is even smaller on Mobile).

Are these tied to the theme, or would you consider making that feature more prominent at the top?

Thanks!
The icons are tied into the theme, but I'm not liking them either.  I think I'll look one more time for a different theme that has everything we are looking for.
#226
I personally find this particular theme very easy to read, much more so than the all-white one I had up before.  I won't be able to please everyone with the forum changes, but I'm trying to find one that will work for everybody.

As far as the forum width is concerned, I am unable to change it easily without extensive modding (which I have no time to do).  I may look one more time for another theme that has width options.

Quote from: guest on 10/04/2013, 09:56 AMHey Aaron, thanks for updating the forums!
While we have your attention, would it be possible to add an moderator or two? It'd be really nice to have for when you're too busy to take care of things. I know a lot of people nominated Necromancer for the job.
Thanks again!
Yep, the mod situation is on my list of things to update.

Quote from: OldRover on 10/04/2013, 11:41 AMWhat this place needs is an additional admin, someone who is active and knows the ins and outs of the SMF software.
Thanks......I AM doing my best here trying to update the forum. :\  You don't need an expert to know how to do things with SMF....

Quote from: guest on 10/03/2013, 09:51 AMI like change! The old forums were looking a bit dated, so I'm excited to see what you have in store, Aaron. Thanks for making the effort!
lol, dated.   This is a PCE forum!
Hey, just 'cause we talk about a console from the 90s doesn't mean we have to look like a forum from the 90s! :)
This is also true - My goal is to bring the modern and retro together in the most pleasing way possible.
#232
Yah, I'm looking into it.  I'd like to have the colors relate to the TG-16 or something.....we'll see.
#233
Now that I'm back doing stuff around here, I've turned off email notifications of new users for everybody (including myself).

Quote from: turboswimbz on 10/03/2013, 11:26 AMIt's be better if the background wasn't all white, I do suggest that some contrast would be nice.  Excited to N-E-see the new forum theme though.
I see what you did there :)

I do hear you all about the white.  I'll see what I can do about that next.
#235
Been working on the forum all evening (tired!) but I did want to get this last feature implemented - pcengine-fx.com is now active on Tapatalk.

Now you can surf the forum with ease from your smartphone!  Enjoy.

One change that I just made is that Guests are no longer welcome to browse the forum.  This will help in preventing spambots/robots/search engines to screw with my forum bandwidth.

As far as the forum theme goes, I know everyone was used to the old look, but I'm not going to go back to that theme/color.  The one I have up right now might not stick either depending on how things go.
#237
Quote from: Joe Redifer on 10/03/2013, 12:13 AMThis looks like a new version of the forum software. Or was the old theme that customized?

I know when we upgraded (not sure if that's an appropriate word) the forum software at Sega-16, none of the old themes worked at all.
Both.  I upgraded from SMF 1.x.x to 2.0.5 and old theme didn't work so had to make a new one.
#238
Quote from: guest on 10/02/2013, 11:24 PMMe too!  I'll have some spare time in a couple of weeks if you'd like a hand rebuilding the theme (or building a new one).  Unfortunately, I'm buried in work at the moment.
No problem - I'll be messing with it over the next week, so expect the look to slowly change.
#239
So all songs before 10.1.13 were the originals that I recorded back when the show was online....oh so many years ago.

The songs I just put up for the 10.1.13 update are "state of the art".  After recording the TurboChip tracks, I not only normalized them for proper volume levels, but cleaned them up by removing the background track noise you get with TurboChip music, as well as corrected the left & right stereo channels to be properly balanced.
#240
Hi all,

I had to upgrade SMF, my SQL DB and PHPBB to fix continued server load issues, which means the forum theme is now totally messed up :(

Quote from: guest on 10/01/2013, 03:30 PMI remember downloading a zip file with Last Alert dialog imitations... was that you Aaron? I hope it was because it was pretty funny :)
Yep, that sure was me. ;)  I also did a pre-recorded radio show interview between myself and "Sadler" from Exile..not sure if I ever made that available online.

I can do very good imitations of the characters from Exile and Last Alert, so I'll most likely be starting there :)

BTW the Falcom hour won't be starting up tonight as planned due to other obligations.

Quote from: guest on 09/30/2013, 06:55 PMI like it.

Are the little "Stay tuned to PCEFX radio" snips required?

I'd rather the music just keep going without interruptions, no matter how tiny.
Aww man............I like my StationID clips.... in fact I was going to make more of them but in a funny TurboGrafx-related way.....

I currently play a StationID file every 3 songs.  I can of course space them out longer if people think it is too frequent.
#246
So I just set up a "Falcom Radio Hour" which will currently play each evening at 7PM PST (8pm MDT / 10pm CDT / 11pm EDT; for listeners outside of the US, please use this TimeZone converter: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html).

To do a full-day of programming will take a bunch of work to set up, so may just limit it to scheduled radio hours.  Show should start airing tomorrow (10/1/13).

I'll also see if I can get everyone's requests ripped and added to regular programming ASAP.

Clicking as many banners as possible.
Is there a limit on how many times banners can be clicked?  I know Google is sensitive to banners being spam clicked and it could possible mean AdSense being revoked if abused.  Just curious.  It's been a while since I used AdSense.
I think it will have to be MUCH higher than what I'm getting right now to even appear on their radar.  Feel free to click on the banners as much as you want - I'll let everyone know if it becomes an issue.
#248
If anyone has any requests for NEC Console music not on the show, please let me know ASAP.

Also, I'm toying with the idea of having a day of the week JUST for playing JDK/Falcom music all day.  Yay? Nay?

PCEFXRadio.jpg

I'm streaming the show from my Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone via Bluetooth to my car, which shows the song data

So the show as it sits right now costs me $75/year for 10 listener slots+96 kbps+5GB Cloud Storage.  I'm not even hitting 1GB yet with all of the MP3's I've uploaded so far (I'm up to 11.5 hours worth of music), and 96 kbps sounds pretty damn good (even in my car).  I can of course up the bitrate and or users at anytime for additional cost:

10 listener slots+96kbps+5GB Cloud Storage: $75/year < current
25 listener slots+96kbps+5GB Cloud Storage: $186/year

If we change the bandwidth just to see the price difference:

10 listener slots+128kbps+5GB Cloud Storage: $90/year
25 listener slots+128kbps+5GB Cloud Storage: $225/year

Adding even more songs now (will update original post here in a few).

Song titles seem to only show up right now fine using WinAmp (it is a Shoutcast server).  Not sure yet if I can get song titles to show up using other players yet.

I'm testing it on my end using the free iPad shoutcast app and it doesn't show song titles (boo).
