12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Is it possible to change the region lock of a TE from usa to japan? I'm having a hard time finding a seller with a japanese GT in mint condition, and the TE seems to be more common on ebay.  On ebay, the GTs being sold are either to expensive, have quiet sound, dead pixels, or the seller has way too many neg feedback. I'm not interested in a region switch, (I know there isn't enough space for that) just want to be able to play japanese hucards.

I don't have a TE, but if it is possible to modify I'll consider buying one.

Quote from: neokellyzeroThis is wrong to do, but here's how you fix the bullseye problem-

Step 1: Everyone on the forum signs up for a new ebay account
Step 2: Everyone bids on one of his items
Step 3: Everyone does not pay
Step 4: Everyone leaves negative feedback

I'm not advocating anyone do this, but that's how you fix a problem like this.  The guy has never screwed me- but then again I've never bought anything from him- never will either...

All those in favor say AYE...

AYE!

That's not bad idea. I'll do it, if a few more people agree. Lets bring his feedback down to 70.1%

I just applied D-Lite's sound fix to my GT. I was hoping I would see the screen light up, but it didn't work. My GT has truly crossed over to the other side.

Quote from: ryosnkSomeone at a different forum is selling a turboexpress for $60 w/streetfighter ce but the turboexpress has two dead pixels.  Would that be a problem when playing a game?

Are you sure it's a Turbo Express because Street Fighter CE is a japanese hucard and a TE can only play US hucards. You need a PC-Engine GT to play a japanese hucard.

Anyway, it depends on where the dead pixels are located. I wouldn't mind if they're in the far corners, but it might be annoying if they're in the middle of the screen. And on a small screen it's very noticeable.

I would wait until you can buy one thats least in good condition. It doesn't matter if the unit has "low sound" because it's only a minor problem since D-Lite found a remedy for it.

I finally beat Sidearms just a few minutes ago. It's not difficult as other gamers had said it would be. I was hoping the last boss would change into several forms like in Super Star Soldier, but didn't happen in Sidearms. The last boss was a just large worm that spreads blue bullets in all directions, but they're slow and easy to dodge.  The ending...well not worth describing, but the gameplay is great. Being able to switch your attack from behind or in front of you, and combine that with a shit load of enemies attacking you in every direction just keeps the game alive. The shotgun is mandatory against all normal enemies in every level, but switching to the Bit, Auto, or 3-shot is best against most bosses.

Now I'm going back to play Super Raiden.

Has anyone used rechargeable batteries in their TE or GT and developed problems?
#1008
Quote from: nimteneRolins, have you tried using an AC adapter to start
up your system?

No, never used an AC adapter on mine. I live in the United States so I did not want to overload my GT with 120v, and I don't trust multi-adapters on japanese hardware.

I have been doing some research on the internet. There is a website called ASSEMbler, great place that documents unknown and rare video game related stuff. Anyway, a guy documented an autopsy of his Turbo Express. In this page the guy said, "the power runs right into the board without any real purification" reason why we cant use rechargeable batteries. He also said on this page   that one component is not protected enough while running on batteries.

I don't know if this info helps, but for any techs out there willing to investigate this it might be usefull.
#1009
I had a similar problem except mine was pc-engine GT. It had similar symptoms: dark screen and the brightness control doesn't help. Eventually mine died and I can no longer turn it on.

I think the screen on your TE is fine. I believe the symptoms we're experiencing has something to do with the power supply, or whatever component is converting the energy of the batteries. I'm not an electrician and have not opened my GT, so I'm just guessing here.

You can read what happen to my GT on this thread.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WANTED: pc-engine GT
09/08/2005, 11:35 AM
I recently bought a PC-Engine GT, when I first turned it on I was amazed how crisp and bright it was. Playing Soldier Blade was simply incredible. The audio from the speaker was low, but I could still hear sound thru the headphone port. After about a minute of playing I noticed the screen getting dark and then darker. I tried to increase the brightness but it didn't do anything. I had thought the cold cathode fluorescent burned out, so I turned it off and waited a few minutes. I turn the GT on and it was normal again, but after a mintue the screen went dark. I turned off the GT again and sent a message to D-Lite and asked him if he could fix it. That was 4 days ago and no word from him. Yesterday I decide to use the GT one more time. I put in fresh batteries and the screen was still dark, but this time after 3 minutes the GT unexpectedly turned off. I tried to turn it on again several times, but it was too late. It died.

The PC-Engine GT had a near-perfect screen and I plan to reuse the casing. Does anyone have a GT in "cosmetically" ugly condition?

Note:
GT must work. It must not have dead pixels and must be able to hear sound thru headphone port.

I do not care if the screen is scratched or has unsightly blemishes on the casing.

Off-Topic / Snatcher for Sega CD

Snatcher, the greatest digital comic game in history. Expect the price to rise to $200.

Another good snatcher game is SD-Snatcher for the MSX2 computer. Its a great RPG and voted the best MSX2 game.

Quote from: oldschooldaveIs it pretty much every PC Engine HuCard game, or does the SuperGrafx only enhance the graphics on certain ones?

The Super Grafx doesn't enhance normal PCE hucards, except Darius Plus/Alpha.  Darius Plus is compatible with pc-engine and super grafx. Here is a list of the games specifically for the Super Grafx:

1941
ALDYNES
BATTLE ACE
DARIUS ALPHA (supergrafx compatible)
DARIUS PLUS (supergrafx compatible)
GHOULS N' GHOSTS
GRANZORT

I've always like the design of the Sega MarkIII over SMS. But they've become quite rare and expensive on Ebay especially when it comes with the FM unit.

Quote from: OldRoverIf it's the same base game...you'll want to use the Shotgun weapon a lot as it can wipe out enemy bullets. I have a strategy for conquering Sidearms that involves using ths Shotgun for at least 90% of the game, since it has the ability to take out shots.

I have the hucard version, and never played the CD version. Anyway, the shotgun is definitely powerful, it cancels out most enemy bullets. Found to be very useful in the second stage, taking out those buggers on the ground that shoots out 3 bullets. Probably the hardest enemy for me to kill are those red worms that take several shots before going down.

Quote from: OldRoverI won't give away the rest but if the CD version of functionally identical to the cart version and you need some strategies for beating the game, let me know...I can finish the entire game without losing a single life just by knowing what weapons to use where and when. :D

You've actually beaten this game on the pc-engine? :D

Well, I don't want to spoil the fun trying to use insider tips. I'll try to find my own method to beat this game. But I wouldn't mind some help understanding the power-up system.

I know I will be able to beat Super Raiden. It's hard, but doable after some practice.

I have more difficulty with Sidearms, mainly because it has a strange power up system. After powering up I've noticed that my robot (or main character) moves way to fast and I end up running into bullets while trying to dodge them. Is there a way to lower my speed?
#1017
Recieved Sidearms and Super Raiden in the mail yesterday. Both are sealed and brandnew. I have to say Sidearms is really tough, not a lot of room to dodge the bullets and some of the enemys are cheap. On the other hand, bosses are easy. Manage to get to the third level so far. Super Raiden, love it more than Sidearms, got to the fifth level. Reminds me a lot when I played Nexzr, memorization and skill is the only to overcome obstacles.

I all most forgot, Super Raiden [brandnew/sealed] costs $36.45 and a used copy is $45.79 at http://japangamestock.com. They really made a typo on their website, so if anyone wants a brandnew Super Raiden get them now before they switch the prices.

We all don't hate you, and don't take any of the sarcasm to heart. This forum is not meant for insulting other members. It's just impolite when you told Nod to remove his avatar only because you dislike the picture. This is an informal message board, where everyone can be themselves and discuss anything pce/tg16 related. But please, if you have something personal about a member then settle it outside with PM or email.

Its no joke, the rarity of this game within nes/famicom ranks above the game, Stack-Up. But unlike Stack-Up, this is one of the best shmups on the famicom, and probably worth it. The action is super fast, faster than Gun Nac of the famicom. Plus its addictive, and I've only been able to play it is on emulators. Who ever buys this is extremely lucky.

In terms of 2D and retro-gaming, the future is in FPGA. It's a chip that can be programed to fully emulate hardware right down to the circuit-level. Very amazing really. Any one heard of Kevin Horton and his Nes on FPGA. He was able to re-create the Nes on FGPA which is highly accurate, even better than those nes clones on the market. He even implement about 170+ memory mappers so nearly every nes and famicom can be played from rom files stored on SD flash cards. Its not for sale and it costed Kevin $350 to make a prototype, but I really hope this goes into production.

First off, please do not blow in nes carts or any other video game carts. The moisture in a person's breath will damage the game if you continue to do that.

In order to clean a nes game you only need two things. A Q-tip and some generic Windex. Wet the Q-Tip with some windex and clean the gold contacts of the cartridge. You don't need to take apart the cartridge to do this.

The 72-pin is usually the source of the blinking/blank screen problem. Most often the contacts are worn out and dirty and the only way to fix it is to replace it. 72-pin connectors are cheap and can be bought on ebay for like $2 - $5. You do need to take apart your nes so you can replace the 72pin connector, but its easy.

I remember drouling at Neo Geo ads in a Gamepro magazines back in '92. It is the cadillac of video game console. I still want a Neo Geo AES to this day, but the investment is too rich for me. My favorite NG games were Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, KOF98, Last Blade, Samurai Showdown 2, Pulstar, and Garou MOTW.

Quote from: Blasta_Maztamy nes is really pissing me off right now. i started playing it again a few weeks ago and games keep on messing up.

How is it getting "messed up"? Are getting a blinking screen? Because that can be easily fixed by replacing the 72-pin connector. You also might want to clean the contacts of your cartridges because they get dirty easily.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritI'ma save up for a Twin Famicom. After all I always wanted to get into Famicom Disk System.

Twin Faimcoms are great. My neighbor just recently bought his a few months ago off ebay. They're not cheap, and the only problem you should be worried about is the floppy disk drive. Original FDD used rubber belts and are prone to tear after 10 years of use. This also applies to the Famicom Disk System attachement. The only way to repair them is to get a replacement belt which are hard to find. Not to mention that FDS games also require maintaince because they get very dirty.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritRegarding the Neo Fami, I don't know whether to get one because I happen to own 4 Famicom games that have extra chips in them to enhance the sound (Akmajou Densetsu, Madara, Lagrange Point, DDS Megami Tensei II) I'm kinda in the dark about whether Neo Famis support those chips or not.

No, the Neo Fami and the Messiah's Nes are just clones. Those famicom games with special sound chips, like Akmajou Densetsu, is not supported on any clone available. You can play them but the custom sound chip won't be used, so sound will be inaccurate.

Your better off getting a real Famicom. The ultimate Famicom setup is a AV Famicom with 72pin->60pin converter. So you can play games from any region. Here is what I'm talking about...

Its hard to put a price tag on your collection. You have so many games, even rare and sealed copies, you might as well create a PCE museum. Items displayed in museums don't have a sales tag because they're priceless.

Well, if money wasn't problem for me I pay you $15,000. But if I had that much money to throw around I'd rather go start a Neo Geo collection.
#1034
Are the new screens made of glass?
#1035
I great idea for the 2D portables would be to revive the Turbo Express. Using modern tech. to create a streamlined and compact version of the TE, similar to the Blaze Pocket Famicom.
#1036
I would buy it for $91.
#1037
Impresive collection you have there. I see you have a brandnew copies of Dracula X, Magical Chase, and Kaze Kiri. How much did you pay for each one?

Buy/Sell/Trade / WANTED: pc-engine GT
08/30/2005, 11:21 AM
Auction has ended for this item and someone actually bought it. I looked at the buyer's recent purchases off ebay, and none of the stuff he's bought is PCE or TG16 related. Seems more of a fan of Star Wars and Sega. I think this buyer has no idea the TE doesn't play japanese hucards. I want to send the buyer a message, but I can't help think if maybe the TE really does play japanese hucards. Well, if he leaves Neg. feedback to the seller then TE doesn't play imports, and the seller is incompetent for giving misleading information.
#1039
There was a huge reserve of brandnew sealed copies at low prices 7 years ago, but many of them have been auction off or bought up. Ebay, Yahoo Japan, and online stores have sold just about all of them. After two years, most of the sealed copies are becoming rarities.

Blood Gear is at a good price for what it's worth $25, and like GUTS said it is a steal. I'm tempted to buy it because it is an exceptional game and it's sealed.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WANTED: pc-engine GT
08/29/2005, 12:25 PM
Any one willing to sell me a PC-Engine GT?

I don't mind if there is no box or manual, or if there is "little sound". Just looking for one that is in good shape. No scratches on the screen, still has battery cover, no dead pixels, and can hear audio thru headphone port.

I've checked ebay, but I really don't trust any of the sellers who are selling them. One seller in particular is loongsfj. He is selling a Turbo Express with 2 japanese hucards. I sent him an email and asked him if this Turbo Express has been modified to play japanese hucards. The seller told me it was never modified, but plays them anyway. I'm thinking he is lying and has never tested it.

Well, I decided to just buy both games since I found them cheap. Bought new/sealed copy of Super Raiden and Sidearms (hucard) at japangamestock. Quite cheap, $31 for Sidearms and $36 for Super Raiden. The total cost was not to high because I used that 1000 yen discount coupon I found on in this forum.

I just hope japangamestock sends the correct games, and they had better be sealed. I'm worried because japangamestock had two prices for Super Raiden. A used copy was $46 and a new/sealed copy was $36. Does not make sense why a brandnew copy should cost less than the used copy. I figure they made a typo, and thought I should take advantage of the low cost while I can.
#1043
I guess I'll get Sidearms, but the hardest shmups I've played is Silver Surfer for the NES. That game is completely unbalanced and I've never been able to pass the first level.

By the way, is there any difference between the hucard and CD version of Sidearms?
#1044
What do you guys think about Sidearms Special and Super Raiden?

I'm looking for a tough shmups to play. I've already beaten Super Star Soldier, Gunhed, and Nexzr. I've looked at some reviews online and these two games were considered very difficult. Which one should I buy?
#1045
You'll need a 4.5mm gamebit to open a PC-Engine. This is the same gamebit that opens sega genesis carts. The best place to buy one is off ebay, and they're inexpensive.

It might be worth your time to also get a 3.8mm gamebit if you want to open nintendo carts.
#1046
The first Duo they sent me didn't wont properly. It had the audio problem that plague all Turbo Duo and PC-Engine Duo. Whenever I put a CD, SCD, or a plain music cd I would get no audio. Or if im playing a game I only hear sound effects.

The second console they sent me worked perfectly, but the console was an eyesore. It was hard to look at. The console was conpletely scratched and had scuff marks that cant be remove with windex.

In the end, I still came out ahead because I sold both consoles on ebay and used the money to buy a Duo-R.

Japangamestock.com has great service. I been using them for 2 years now and the only complaint is they dont tell you the condition of their merchandise even though on their website it said "mint/good condition."

If you plan on getting a Duo try and get the "box" version and not the "loose" one. Also, ask them to test the system for audio problems and it's condition.

Also, if your considering to buy the Twin Famicom (it's like $130-150). You should defintely ask them to test the system, especially the disk drive.  The disk drive of the Twin Famicom has shoddy belts and are prone to break down.

I hope that helps.
#1047
Japangamestock.com is a good place for discounted japanese games. But dont buy their PC-Engine Duo. I once ordered a Duo from them couple months ago.  When it arrive the system was in cosmetically bad shape,  and the cd player had an audio problem. They were kind enough to send me another one free of charge though. The second one they sent me work fine, but still in ugly shape. White scuff marks and deep scratches all over the console.

Even some of their games I order were not mint condition as they said. I ordered Gunhed from them and it said mint condition. When it arrived it the manual was bent and the hucard had scratches on the back.

The service is good and responsive to emails. But I would think twice if you want to buy games or consoles that are in mint condition.

Most likely the rubber pads are either out of alignment or the contacts are dirty.

You should take the controller apart and clean the contacts and make sure the rubber pads are seated properly.

This usually solves my problem when my controllers fail to work.
