Didn't the Valis series start on the MSX or something?

Valis I were both released in 1986 for the PC-8801 and MSX. The PC-8801 was most likely the original, and overall better than the MSX port.

Is shipping really that expensive from Europe? I mean, geez. What about shipping via surface? It's not like you're shipping a TV.

I've bought stuff shipped from Europe, and using the slowest method, it's usually only a few bucks.

You should try shipping someplace like the Netherlands to U.S. If it's in box you pay alot for cheap shipping and you don't receive your package for 8 weeks. I want to avoid buying stuff from europe, but it's usually the best place for MSX gear so I have no choice.

1.) Daewoo Zemmix - The msx console from Korea. It could only play MSX cartridges, but also Famicom games through an adaptor. Now that's awesome.

2.) Neo-Geo - The console of my childhood dreams. Arcade perfect.

3.) PC-Engine (briefcase set) - The original white console was compact and slick. It's dated but NEC had the right idea to allow the older console to access the newer games with CD-Rom attachment and arcade card. Pure genius and they had better success with the upgrades than Sega did.

4.) NES/Famicom - Even after the system ceased production, there are tons of homebrew games and hardware being made today. Such the Flash cart, which seem like a dream until recently.

5.) Sega Saturn - For the arcade ports, mainly shmups.

Please remember these tanks are heavy! About 2kg each, so the shipping is expensive. $69 insured to the US coastline. Shippingtime is 8-9 days. And thats to the country only. Not to you. So please allow more time before you recieve them.
There is a faster way. 5-6 days to YOU but thats insane and ridiculous $92.

Yeah, but it's really a full fledge MSX2 crammed into a blue box aimed towards programmers not just gamers. Attach a keyboard and you can begin coding in MSX-Basic or run MSX-DOS2. Hell, learn VHDL and add new features or turn the OCM into entirely new system like Famicom. The SD port allows you to have a mass storage device for anything including disk & rom emulation. Neat but expensive. I'm still waiting for the western counterpart.

I think I'll just put down Zemmix, which is a MSX system meant to run carts only. Hey, it was advertised as console.

sorry, video game system only. definition: easy to use (put in cart or cd) and made for only one purpose, play and enjoy video games.

Well then MSX should be applicable. Stick a official cartridge or disk into a MSX, turn the power ON, and game loads automatically w/o any instructions from the end user. Easy cakes.

I had Alcohol 120% but I've stopped using it since it tends to move tracks out of sync by 2 secs.

It shouldn't. I should burn the CUE configuration exactly or reject it. Nothing in between. Unless you're burning from MP3 rips - those suck and are almost alway out of sync.

If you have a correct Cue sheet then, yeah, there should be a problem with Alcohol 120. It's only when you're making a backup image of an original disc that the tracks get out of sync. It been a year since I last used Alcohol 120, so I don't know if the problem was fixed.

As for why, I'm not doing it thinking I'm going to get rich off of it or anything. The last time I did this was about 7 years ago when I cleared out all systems and stuff up through about the NES/Master System era. I find I haven't really missed too much of that stuff since then. Just time to do it again I guess. 

Well I'm always interested in any NES shmups you might have. Any joysticks? Got anything MSX related perhaps?

I stand firmly behind CDrwin and the bin+cue format.  The program is free too as long as you want to burn at your drives minimum spin, and you do, don't you?

I second CDRWin too for all backups and minimum speed limit ain't prob. If your burner is quite new your min speed will be like 4x. Still fast.

I'm really sad that SAT morning cartoon ain't what they used to be. I pretty much stopped watching it altogether save only the new TMNT (at least once in a while). For me it started going downhill when kiddie anime entered the mix like Pokemon and Card Captors etc. I'm anime fan but the stuff imported by FOX and WB is complete rubbish.

How is the quality of the ASCII compared to the original Hori?

The Hori Fighting Stick PC, right? I can't say because I've never used one before. The Hori's probably better in overall construction and feel more arcade like. Still a matter of personal preference. If it was my choice I'd still go with the ASCII stick. It's compact, easy to use, and it ain't so cumbersome to lug around. I have a HRAP2 and it's arcade authentic with seimitsu parts, but they're beast of burden. So heavy & gigantic with so many buttons, it seems overkill to use it for shmups on 8/16 bit systems when my XE-1PRO and ASCII are good enough.

Hi,
I'm new to the Turbo/PC Engine/PC-FX community (I just received my PC Engine Duo-R this morning  ).  Right now, I'm trying to pick up games and accessories for my Duo, and I came across an arcade stick that Ascii made for the PC Engine.  Has anyone here ever used it, know if its a quality controller or a piece of junk?  Any information would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.  Also, does anyone know of a list of the games that are compatible with the PC Engine mouse? 

Ascii stick is a good stick. If you love the NES Advantage then you'll might want this since they're pretty much the same joystick.

The XE-1PRO HE, that Kozo mentioned, is also very good. Even doubles as a 4player multitap. I certainly love Dempa's XE-1PRO and ST2 models. They're compact like the Ascii but have custom Seimitsu sticks, which I believe is the same kind used in AES Neo Geo sticks.

I don't give a damn. I'm too broke to afford any them which why I'm sticking to emulation. Plus, I just don't have the attention span for games requiring more than 4 buttons. I like my games simple but challenging which why I like shmups. Seriously, you only need 2 or 3 Buttons for those type of games.

Each part took me less than 5 hours to completely finish, with a combined hours being slightly over 9 hours.  Add in the times where you have to repeat certain sections, etc, and one can probably get 10+ hours of gameplay with this disc.

Wow, less than 5 hours to finish Xak 1. Telenet really did tone down the difficulty for the pc-engine. IIRC it took me over 10 hours of playtime to finish the Xak 1 for MSX2.

So the Nadia game...does it use the split audio tracks for interactivity's sake (like you get one conversation if you do something in the game, and if you do something else you get the other conversation), or is it just a really cheap and cheesy way to maximize disc space?

Obviously to save disc space because the whole game is on 3 freakin CDs.

Split audio tracks reminds me of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water for the FM-Towns. I noticed every single audio track included 2 different voice recordings for various cutscenes in the game. If you put the game into a CD player and play in stereo, you can hear 2 separate conversations in the left & right speaker at the same time. The game specifically chooses to mute either left or right speaker during the cutscenes, and sure made me think my speakers was on the fritz.

The save game manager built in to the Saturn itself is superior and FAR less annoying than that.

The point is games made with Dezaemon 2 can't be transfered from PC to Sega Saturn without the external FDD which is rare and expensive, unless you know someone who can provide a memory cartridge with the saved game data.

Whats special about this release is the save manager includes +100 fan-made shmups on 1 CD which you can boot on your own Saturn and transfer the games directly to your memory cartridge or FDD. You'll still need a copy of Dezaemon 2 to play them of course.
