Yeah on the Hori pad theres is a switch that says 2B and 6B. Set it to 6B for 6-button mode.

Quote from: hizaygizirlzsorry if these seem a little obvious to people but i had a few TG related questions.

1) what in a cd game is a spine card is that what says the game name on the side of the case?  Like on an ebay auction for dracula x if it says no spine card what am i missing?

It's a folded piece of card board that is wrapped around the spine of the cd jewel case. Many of them were thrown away by their previous owners because it doesn't have any real use. But collecters insist they are included because their just anal that it has to be complete.

It's nothing to worry about. If anything the CD-I fans needs this more than do NEC fans. Besides, there's plenty of discussion groups for people starving for NEC related topics.

List has been updated.

Both Hori pads are now gone.

Quote from: LeeTI have no problem with people SHARING copies of PCE games but to sell copies is wrong.

Agreed.

Selling backups is a no-no. I have no problem with sharing them for free or trading them for other CDR backups.

I do want to get something in return because nothing is for free. Some of my friends request copies of my games all the time, and I don't mind handing out backups just as long as they buy me lunch.

Hahahaha, thats way too cool. I want to have my Driver's lisence say Alpha Trion or Omega Supreme.

Super Raiden: Stage 10

I don't know if this counts as anime, but if you love Transformers than go to the The Cybertron Archive. They also talk about Macross and Gundam here too.

Currently I'm rewatching the entire 98 episodes of Transformers G1. So cool to here that "crunching" sound that the autobots make as they transform.
#810
Yeah, nearly identical to the snes hori. DJ898 had posted a picture of it on this thread. It's the black controller in bottom middle.

Quote from: DaedalusMy cake topper, and this is probably because I bought it for like 30 dollars when it was first out, and I was too young and broke to afford a 50 dollar game is Tricky Kick.  My all time most hated game for TG16/ PCE.

Tricky Kick is probably one the best puzzle games on the system and shouldn't be placed at the bottom of the pile. Whats to hate in this game? There's several characters to choose from, each with their own story line. Music was good, although not the best, and for each character there was a special stage theme in mind. I definetly like playing the robot stages, reminds me of old ultraman shows.
#813
Probably all the Mahjong games. I mean love playing Mahjong with my family but on the console it's boring.
#814
Great job on the TE, MotherGunner.

As for dead pixel issue on the TE, they're a minor nuisance and hardly noticable. I used to have a GT with two dead pixels that appeared as a blue and a red dot, but only in dark/black backgrounds do you see them.

I don't know if that's a good idea to "massage" the screen. I believe the best way is to salavage another TE/GT screen that doesn't have dead pixels. I've done this before and it works.

Quote from: D-LiteEven "broken" items should be packed moderately well at least.

Want to see a gem?  I got this about a year ago and haven't even bothered to open it.  It looked really nice in the auction and I paid for priority/insured shipping.  You guys will love it:

Good lord! I would've demanded a refund for false advertising. I've seen some horrible stuff in my life, but this is just sick...
#816
Thats great news that you got it working again, one more Duo saved from ebay. :D

How much does one of those lens cost? Just in case mine starts to get hiccups.
#817
One bit that I hate about all salamander games is having to go thru the wall of meat. An area in the first stage requires you to create a path thru them by shooting at it, and you have to escape before the wall of meat consumes you. When I first played salamander (pce) the meat gobbled me up right before reaching the first guardian.

Cool. I want that image of the b/w Vic Viper on the back of my t-shirt or my book bag. That would look awesome.

There was another guy on the magic engine forum who put his tg16 in wooden case. I forgot why though. I should find that thread.

Congrats on snatching a DUO. I had the same excitement when I purchased mine, but take good care of it. Here are some games that I recommend you should try next...

Shubibinman 3 (platformer)

Wonder Boy 3 - Monster Lair (excellent platformer)

Nexzr (challenging vert. shooter...not as tough as Super Raiden.)

Gradius II (near-arcade perfect. I love Gradius.)

#826
I hope that bastard stays gone.

Quote from: KeranuWhoa, I had no idea Compile had anything to do with Alien's Crush and Devil's Crush? Do you know if they had anything to do with Jaki Crush on SNES? Jaki Crush looks cool, but the way the board is laid out is so annoying because it takes a long time to reach the upper parts.

Yup, COMPILE also produced Jaki Crush. I remember playing it a long time ago, but felt that it wasn't up to par with Devil's Crush (pce). The tunes are good, but it doesn't retain the speed of Devil's Crush.
#828
Hands down the music was better on the tg16 than the genesis. Not so scratchy and without the music cuts as the genesis port. Not many people know this but Devil's Crush (including Alien Crush) was produced by COMPILE, which came to me as a surprise because pinball was completely out of their element.

Too bad the genesis port was done by another group. I'm sure if was done by COMPILE they would've spent extra attention to the music like they did with Musha Aleste.
#829
I'm glad someone here bought it. Better in the hands of gamer than a reseller like bullseye.
#830
Damn that seller is frickin cheapskate. I hope you bought insurance in case it doesn't work. Did you buy this off ebay? and if so, whats the persons ebay user id?

The weirdest packaging I got was from japangamestock. They once sent me a pce multitap in a lunch bag, and a black Duo in a japanese beer box w/ newspaper stuffing.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritI heard the Genesis game "Ranger X" was one platformer that highly recommended the 6 button controller.
How much do that PS2 version of the Neo Geo CD pad go for?

A brandnew pad will run for $40. I've never used one but read good reviews that it works well for fighting games like KOF and SFII. One of these days I'll have to buy one myself.

Edit: I take that back. Those NG pads should be around $30 brandnew.

Quote from: stevek666What a load of crap. Why did they even bother attaching the Valis franchise to this garbage? I just wanted another straight-forward platformer... but I would have accepted some other hybrid game if the melding of genres seemed appropriate (i.e. I would have been curious to see a Valis with more in-depth action-RPG elements, such as leveling-up, exploring / backtracking through some stages, etc. etc.).

"Valis X: Pointless" would have been a more appropriate title.

Exactly.

Porn is alright in my book, but I dislike it when they depict women being raped.

The best 6-button controller is the Hori Fighting Commander PC. I have two of them and there perfect for Fatal Fury Special and World Heroes.

Like this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/HORI-FIGHTING-COMMANDER-6-buttons-pc-engine_W0QQitemZ8262897563QQcategoryZ49230QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Whats a good price for one of these?

Thats Good price and shipping cost ain't bad either. I bought my last two for $20 each. I say snatch it before someone else does.

The genny 3-button pads is one the best controllers I've ever used, and I have nothing but love for them. I don't like the 6-button pad though, the placement of buttons and curve of the controller feels awful.

The sms controllers I could never get used to. The d-pad on those things is strange trying to move diagonal, and long term abuse to the controller will make the thin plastic covering to come off.

The original nes controller is the greatest ever. Built like a brick, damn thing will go thru walls unscathed and survive being submerged in water. I would know, my sister thought it was funny to throw my nes controller in the pool because I wouldn't let her play.

Quote from: Seldane- You don't get a nice collection to look at.

You can always buy the flash card and still buy other games if you want. It won't hinder your collection. In fact it will help you decide which games to buy.

Quote from: Seldane- Want to steal games? Go ahead!

It doesn't encourage you to steal. I've owned several flash cards in the past and it makes me buy the games because I love playing them so much.

And if it wasn't for flash cards I wouldn't have been able to play an english-translation of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake on my MSX2+ computer; and that game cost ~$200.

Quote from: Seldane- Buying one will encourage those scumbags to produce other similiar (ILLEGAL) products! Those damn pirates!! They're probably producing similiar things for GBA and NDS.

I hope Neoflash's products will force Tototek to get off their ass, and start producing better products. Their TTK pce card is cheaper but Neoflash's product looks so much cooler.

I'm waiting for their 128M card. Can't wait to play Magical Chase on my TE.

Blazing Lasers? You wish! It's Blazing Lazers!    Worst name ever? -Yes.

Oh and it's Galbalan. And that's a pretty lousy name as well, I actually prefer Demanicus (not saying I like it though).

Blazing Lazers is a much better name than Gunhed, and it's my favorite pce game. But I really could care less about changes to the game's title name. Just as long as the name fits the game's theme.

Quote from: VestCuntso...anyone know if jap power supplies work here in the US?

There is no problem as long as your electrical outlets run at 110v. I live in a old apartment and none my electrical outlets will go no lower than 120v. I plugged my Duo-R in 120v outlet and weird things started to happen. Mainly redbook audio stops and I can hear some kind of grinding noise from the cd player. I bought a step down transformer 120v -> 100v and I never had anymore problems.

This is the step down transformer that I bought and it's inexpensive

General Gaming / GP2X

I've been keeping an eye on this for a while now. I'm interested in the emulation, but I really want get one mainly to just watch divx movies.

The old GP32, you had to re-encode movies to a certain resolution and make it small enough to fit on a 128mb SMC. Now with the GP2X just drag and drop divx movies up to 2gb on a SD card. You don't even have to re-encode them either.

I want one now, but I'll have to wait until I can set aside some money for it.

Quote from: neokellyzeroI've heard bad stuff about the GP2X- cheaply made, technical issues.  I would love to have a handheld that can do what it does with emulators, but there's a lot of horror stories out there.

Those GP2X were mainly the first production release that came out in september 2005 and those were for the developers. The latest models being sold now under the name "second edition" have updated software that fixes all those technical issues.

Back on topic, are there any good shooters on the WS?

Nice pic. It would be the perfect flame war deterrent.

MSX
Salamander

I been playing Salamander on the MSX. It's tougher than Raiden (on the pce) and has ugly scrolling, but it's the best horizontal shooter on the MSX.

I've been trying to beat this game for 16 years now. I don't know what it is about this game, but when I was a kid I hated it. I even threw it across my bedroom wall because I couldn't pass the first level. Today, I love it.

I found the game 5 weeks ago after cleaning out my closet. I was about to put up on ebay, but I decide to keep it because I've become addicted to it.

Yesterday I finally passed the second level. I so excited. :D

Only 5 more stages to go.

Quote from: GUTSHaha "aight den, can I gets me a resume?", man that is priceless.

I had this one older black guy come in to my store one time to sell some stolen crap-

me "we'll give you $10 for that controller, cash."
him "$10?  hows about $15? I'M A POOR BLACK NIGGA!  Help a nigga out!"
me (trying not to laugh) "no sorry, $10"
him "c'mon now, how about $11 then, that's a Big Mac right there!"
me "alright fine."

So I ring him up, and on his way out he yells, "YOU STAY WHITE THERE, I'LL BE RIGHT BLACK!"

Man that was awesome, I was laughing the rest of the day about that.

Hahahaha
#845
Quote from: SeldaneWell, can you explain the "16" then? What does it mean? Were they trying to trick people to believe it was a 16-bit system? Huh? Huuuh?

Of course! How else would NEC sell a 8-bit console when the video game market was dominated by 16-bit console.

It sure fooled me when the TG16 came out. The CPU maybe 8-bit but who cares. The system can display 16-bit graphics, and they're comparable or better than those produced on the genesis and snes.

I never really liked the design of the TG16 console, but I do agree with Vestcunt. Just the name Turbo Grafx was 10 times better than hearing PC-Engine.
#846
Yeah, I was referring to the RAU-30 adapter. It suppose to connect the SGX to the cd-rom2 unit, but this where I'm confused. Do you need this cable to connect it to the SuperCD unit?

Edit:

Scratch out my last question. I found a pic with the SGX w/ SCD unit. I guess the cable isn't needed.

Quote from: SpectorAs for the Flash Cart, take a look at this.

It comes with free shipping so it's not as expensive as you think. And you have to admit, it looks brilliant with that R-Type design.   :)

OK, did i just miss something?  Why has no one been talking about this flash cart?  you can take roms of any hucard game and play them on a real system???  is this true?

No one talks about it in fear that all the newbs will jump on it, make a big fuss about it, and the end result is the company increases the price because of high demand.

No way, they aren't going to raise the price because someone's mentioned it on a PC Engine forum. Chad Schell's Cuttle Cart for the Atari 2600 had lots of publicity, but they never went up. The more interest the better, as they'll keep making them.

Spreading the info on this forum might not, but if someone advertised on a  site that gets a lot of traffic, for example Slashdot, it just might.

QuoteRegarding the Tototek Flash cards mentioned earlier. They are no comparison to this recent release. They were pretty dodgy and unprofessional, coming with no casing, just the PCB. Getting it to work was a nightmare. The tototek forum was full of people struggling to get it going. This new release is a much simpler USB device, and it holds twice as many games too.

Tototek's pce flash card maybe of a lower grade compared to neoflash, but no way was it unprofessional. When their pce flashcard first came out, it was the best option for playing backup roms and it was better than using the MDG2.

As for the software it used, yes it was a pain but my biggest problem was getting the flash card to be recognized on winxp. After passing that hurdle, I never had problems getting it to work.
#848
I've never owned a SGX, but buying one has crossed my mind. The reason why I never bought one is because it's tough to find a Super CD unit w/ the right connector cable.

You won't be disappointed with Aldynes. I've played it on ME and I can understand all the great reviews about it. If you do get a SGX the only other game I would consider is Daimakaimura.

1941 is a step up compared to 1943 Kai, but I think they both stink. Actually, I hate all the console versions of 19XX series, irritating music/sfx and gameplay.

Still, played them on an emulator and decide for yourself.

Actually this particular flash card is a revamp of an older model that has been out for over a year now in Asia.

I've been anticipating this since Sept 2005, but I'm more interested in their 128M flash card (its still in production).

Another company is Tototek. They've have flash carts for the pce and other 8/16-bit consoles for a couple years now, and very few know about them.
