Quote from: DaedalusI think its more of the power cord moving...im talking if i just adjust the way im sitting it resets, always has since the day I bought the unit like 15 years ago ( whenever it came out ) the slightest movement even with batteries in it resets the mache.  Its not a big deal because I dont use it all that much, just wondering if I was the only one.

Well its not the AC adaptor, it has to be a problem with your TE since it still resets with AA batteries. Have tried openning your TE? Maybe one of the connectors is loose.

Why didn't you return the TE when you notice this problem 15 years ago?

Also, does your unit suffer from low speaker audio?

QuoteWhat kind of battery do you use?

I'm using an external NiMH rechargeable battery pack 2800mah 7.2 volts.

Quote from: DaedalusI own an Turbo express, battery life kinda sucks...my problem is that if I use the ac adapter, and it moves slightly, i mean even turns a 32th of an inch it looses power adn resets. anyone have this problem, and is there a fix?

Which moves slightly, the cord of the AC adaptor or your TE unit?

If you have AA batteries in the TE, does it still reset unexpectedly?

You're first I've heard with a TE that unexpectedly resets. I also own a TE and I've never had this problem before. I don't own an AC adaptor and I don't use AA batteries no more there too expensive.

Right now I'm using a third party rechargeable battery pack via power input. Works like a dream.

Quote from: KeranuOh no, I'm not bringing any spam. True I enjoy stocking it, but I won't eat the stuff! Plus it has pork in it.

I actually like eating spam. I spent a couple years growing up in Guam and Hawaii as a kid, and most households I visited fed me spam and rice.

I still eat spam with rice to this day, and sometimes I stir fry it with some ramen noodles.

If you didn't know already Spam = Spiced Ham. Made from pork shoulders and ham.

Do people dislike spam because they think its a mystery meat hot dog?

Quote from: shadowlife25So I'm new to this forum, but not to the Turbo/PCE world. First I'd like to say thank you to the members of this community for doing a big part to keep the NEC systems alive! Secondly I was wondering, how can these E-Bay company's like BullsEye Collectibles charge such exhorbitant prices for their Turbo/PCE gear? Some of it is understandable I suppose, but even though the power supply I need for my TG-CD is worth $35. I know it doesn't cost $25 to SHIP!!!
I'm sorry for the rant here, but are these price-hikes really justified? Especially since they also do things like sell you a system and then charge EXTRA for a power supply? Or one controller? Seems kinda shady. Just my .02

None of us can't doing anything to bring down Bullseye. I've heard way too many horror stories about people buying stuff from him and recieving piles of shit in the mail. Just avoid him like the plague at all costs.

I dislike people who add additional charges to items that is required for a system. Like the controllers and AC adaptors.

Japangamestock does this and it irritates me. They're selling top loader Famicoms for $50 but if you want the controllers, video cable, and AC adaptor you have to pay extra. You end up paying $100, and that doesn't include the EMS shipping costs.

$25 to ship an AC adaptor is a ripoff. Unless that seller is overseas and sending it EMS, it doesn't cost that much. The AC adaptor should cost you no more than $12 in used condition.

Have you also tried contacting the people at http://www.tzd.com ? They might have some.
#858
Quote from: pixeljunkiePlease?

I need a complete Soldier Blade in good or better condition. Looking to pay $30 shipped or so.

Soldier Blade in complete/good condition should be around $40. I bought mine in MIB for $45 off ebay two years ago. Now a days on ebay there like $60+ which is ridiculous, even on YHJ.

You might want to try around Game Trading Zone. There is one person there with a complete Soldier Blade.

Quote from: KeranuWho else thought Rayxamber III had some of the coolest tile sets than any other shooter? <raises hand>

I thought so too. The game wasn't colorful, but damn they sure know how to use shades of brown and red to create the best looking graphics on pce shooter.

This isn't the best side shooter on the pce, I would rather replay R-Type or Gradius.

The game does get a 1up compared to rayxamber II on graphics/gameplay, but the difficult was to easy even on maniac mode.

That and the levels were too short and slow, but I guess if the game moved too fast it would defeat the purpose of your rocket boosters.

I sure do love using thoses rocket boosters.

Off-Topic / Need opinion on about HK store
03/04/2006, 10:43 PM
I'm always hesitant when I purchase anything from HK.

I've had several dealings in the past from HK sellers, and every time I get a package the contents is not what was described or pictured on their site.

I don't think I will buy from these people. Besides shipping cost if high to US.
#861
I doubt it will be Dracula X. Aaron might get sued by Konami.

I thought about it more and it might be a game from Hudson. The company that was the backbone of the PCE. So the game might be Bonk, Bomberman, Super Star Soldier, or Soldier Blade.

Its Super Star Soldier, right?
#862
Thats a tough guess. What genre does the game belong to?

Quote from: YamazakiI bought a Interface with CD-Rom² for a friend. I connected my own PCE with syscard 3.0 to it. Unfortunately i don't have a tv-cabel at the mom so I can't check the output on screen.

I figured out I can insert a CD (either game or music) and check out the music over the headphones.

My problem now: when I insert a CD I try and press the Play Button on the CD-Rom unit. But after showing a 0 on the track-LED nothing happens. The dis is not turning. Same if I try it with a game, and press the RUN-Button on the PCE. Shouln't be the disc turning anyway?

If you can't get a game CD to spin after pressing the RUN button, then maybe...its dead.

Still, you should test the system again when you get a TV cable. Just to be sure.

Quote from: DaedalusFirst off I'd like to say hi, stumbled upon this forum a few days ago and loved it immediatly.  This place is great brings me back to a great time in my childhood video gamming everytime I visit.

Welcome.  :D

Quote from: DaedalusFirst question, does the arcade card work in a Turbo Duo RX?  If it does, can it be obtained anyplace other than Ebay, or is it an almost extinct dinosaur?

First off, why do you have RX in front of Turbo Duo? The Turbo Duo is a U.S. console and the Duo RX is a japanese console. Which one do you have?

Anyway, the arcade card will only work on a Turbo Duo if you have a converter.

The arcade card can be purchase at other online stores: Japangamestock, Genki video games, Videogame Imports, Yahoo Japan Auctions. There are others place too but these are just a few that I know.

Quote from: DaedalusWhile looking through the FX forums I noticed that the system seemed to be only released in Japan, are the games coded in english at all or is everyone just dealing with japanese text?

Thanks, and more to come :)

Japanese only, too bad.

Quote from: D-LiteWhat was the problem with the GTs?
In addition to rolins' problems, we had a bunch of folks complaining about failing (or failed) audio from the built-in speaker. I can't remember if headphones worked or not.

I suspect that a bunch of folks have experienced this problem, but since TE / GT ownership is pretty low here, we're not getting a representative sample of  how bad it is. Of course, I hope I'm wrong. I hope that only a handful of handhelds will experience problems. BUT, with my luck....

I almost forgot, my second GT that died on me also had low speaker problem too. The low speakers is not a real problem since the headphone port could still be used.

The problem with low audio might contribute to power failures on the TE/GT. But I'm just guessing here and I haven't proven it.

Quote from: pixeljunkieWhat do I need to get started playing some of these old Amiga games? I want all the early-mid 90's stuf. Bitmap Bros, etc. Games like this one listed. Are the emulators that great? Do I need to get a full on computer?

I almost got a CD-32 a while back...but decided not to as I didn't wanna fool with the PAL/NTSC probs on games.

Just curious

The best amiga emu is WinUAE. You'll need to find the kickstart roms in order to plays games though. My favorite is Maniac Mansion.

Quote from: rolinsI absolutely love that haunting introduction music of Golvellius. I remember hooking up my MSX to a TV and then recorded the music to a tape recorder. I listened to it over and over on my walkman.
Intro? As in the title screen music or the prologue story music?

My favorite theme still has to be the first overworld music.  It has this excellent synth to it when you turn down the frequency.

I was refering to title screen music.

Other great tunes by COMPILE were Xevious (pce), Devil's Crash (pce), Musha (MD), and Zanac/Aleste/Aleste 2 (msx).

Quote from: Dark FactThanks for the info, Rolins.  It may not be anything special, but the composure for the music still beat the pants off of other NES games at the time.

I second that, Journey to Silius gots one of the best soundtracks I've heard. Along with Castlevania series, Ninja Gaiden 1+2, and Guardian Legend they're are among my favorite ost.

I've lost four to the plague.

1.) PCE-Duo b. 1991 - d. 2001
2.) PCE-Duo b. 1991 - d. 2002
3.) PCE-GT b. 1990 - d. 2005
4.) PCE-GT b. 1990 - d. 2005
Holy crap, 4 systems???

What was the problem with the GTs?

The first GT I bought from a HK seller, and it came DOA. Nothing I can do about that. I sold it on ebay. Beware of ebay seller from HK.

The second GT I bought from a forum member here. It was working fine out the box, and it looked in mint condition. I played it for hour and the display went dim, then dark.

I turned it off and on a few times thinking it was just a glitch. Whenever I turned it on the display was always dark. I tried to increase the brightness but it had no effect. Eventually the GT died two days later, it never turned on again.

I suspect the previous owner ( or owners) used the wrong AC adaptor or used rechargeable AAs. I really do think recharageable AA will degrade the longevity of the GT.

Currently my GT and TE (thanks D-Lite) are working like champs. I'm using a ext. rechargeable battery pack 7.2volts 2800 mah via power input. No problems so far.

An alternative is VGA, and they don't have setup or closing fees like ebay does.

I haven't purchased anything from there yet. Most auctions are for Sega Saturn games, and I don't have a SS console. Another reason is most sellers are international and I hate paying the expensive S&H costs.

Quote from: Dark FactActually, Sunsoft games for the NES used very high quality sound chips.  What were the names of those? I only remember playing such games like BATMAN and JOURNEY TO SILIUS and the sound in those games were freaking awesome! 8)

Journey to Silius (Raf World on the Famicom) both used MMC1 mapper. The MMC1 mapper had nothing special.

Batman (Nes) used a MMC3 mapper. While the famicom version used a Sunsoft 5 mapper. The Sunsoft 5 is the one with enhanced sound. I'm not sure if this mapper works on a Nes, but I doubt it does since the Nes could not make use of the sound enhancements.

This is because NOA made another stupid move in designing the Nes. The Famicom had 2 pins that allow sound enhancements from games like Akumajou Densetsu. The Nes had these two pins removed and were placed in the bottom expansion port. For reason I have no idea.

Robo Warrior (Bomber King in Japan), which basically is an action game that uses elements of the Bomberman gameplay engine.
It should be obvious because Robo Warrior/Bomber King is really a Hudson game as well.
OMG Bomber King!

I remember playing this game on my MSX computer 16 years ago. This game was hard (or maybe b/c I was 7 years old and every game seems tough). It sucks that I lost the cartridge when I moved to CA, I never got a chance to finish it.

I guess I'll pick-up the NES version someday since most MSX games are tough to find these days.

I'm not usually a fan of verticle shooters but this one is totally boss.
I like it more than Sylphia and Soldier Blade (haven't played Hellfire, Super Star Soldier is in the mail).
It's so good i think i'll track down the Hucard or Jag version too.
What sucks is that i can't play a stage for more than a minute before the music cuts out.  according to UPS.com my new Duo should be here on Monday.  i can't wait.

You're gonna enjoy it for months. Super Raiden is so damn good that I couldn't stop playing it for 6 months straight. If you get the hucard then you must try it on the Turbo Express/GT (if you got one). I spent my lunch breaks playing Raiden on my GT and it looks amazing. Probably the only problem you'll have would be the sweaty palms.

Guradian Legend (Guardic Gaiden) is a pseudo sequel to Guardic on the MSX computer.

It think I was the only one in my neighborhood who own this game. It one the best from COMPILE. Never got the spotlight it deserved when it was first released. I really dig the soundtrack and COMPILE always seem compose catchy tunes in most of their games. Find the NSF of Guardian Legend, track 18 is my favorite. I can hum that tune over and over.

What was different was its mix bag of Adventure and vertical shooter. The game was split in two sections: the labyrinth, where you explore NAJU in a overhead action/adventure style and the Dungeon,  where it becomes a vertical shooter blasting hordes of enemsis and then the boss at the end of the stage.

The main character was also a woman. Don't see that often during the late 80s. The only other female protagonist I can think of during that decade was Samus from Metroid.

If there was a battle between the Guardian and Samus. I bet on the Guardian. She walks around in red bikini armor, transforms into a spaceship, and has 12 different weapons to obliterate her enemies.

What can Samus do? Sure she has cool armor and  free-flowing hair, but she can't turn into a spaceship.

Plus, I'm completely biased toward all COMPILE games.

Quote from: Dark FactWhy Konami had to edit out those cut scenes in the NES Contra is beyond me since I thought they added to the story.  :?:

If Konami does do a re-release of all their old games in a collection, I hope they put those scenes back.

It had to do with Nintendo of America. They did not want to pay extra money for the VRC mappers that Konami made for the famicom version of Contra. Konami is well knowm for producing custom made mappers for their games on the Famicom and MSX to have more memory and better music.

Since NOA used a lower spec memory mapper on Contra they had to remove the cut-scenes to save memory.

Because Konami's custom mapper was more expensive to produce, some of their games were never released for the Nes. Examples are Gradius II and Crisis Force.

Neo Geo AES is the home console. Games are identical to their arcade counterparts with the exception of getting fewer continues and a practice modes in some games. The cartridges for this system is very expensive.

Neo Geo MVS is what you find at the arcades. The older games are cheaper than their AES counterparts and cartridge itself is larger.  These can only be played on an AES with a converter.

In the long run MVS is easier on your coffer, but the AES cartridges do have cool artwork and packaging.

The virtual console is good move by Nintendo. I hope they set all games to 99 cents (at least just for nes games). Anymore than $1.99 is a rip-off.

There are only two things that would make it better: access to japanese FDS/Famicom/SFC games, and ability to connect original gamepads (including SuperScope).

I had no idea Raiden was ported to the Jaguar. I suggest you buy the Jaguar version because I think everyone wants to know how faithful it is to the arcade and PCE ports.

Raiden (hu) and Super Raiden on the PCE are probably the best console versions I've played and is only second to the Raiden Project on the PSone. Super Raiden is one tough cookie but worth it.

Here are some I recommed playing.

Musha Aleste (best vertical shooter)
ThunderForce 2 - 4 (best horizontal shooters)
Streets of Rage 1 - 3
Castlevania Bloodlines

Alien Soldier (Super rare and expensive; play this on emulator)

TG16 hucards won't work in a japanese pce unless you do two things.

1.) Ground pin 29 on chip Hu6280 on your pce. This must be done. Using a converter on a japanese system won't let you play TG16 hucards without it.

2.) After grounding pin 29 you can start playing TG16 hucards by using a converter. An alternative would be to modify the hucard slot so you wont need the converter.

Has anyone heard of these guys? They're a couple of nerdy guys into experimental rock.

They've remake some old video game tunes from Mega Man II, Ninja Gaiden II, Wanderers of Ys, and few others. Only a couple are available to download and listen.

Too bad Wanderers of Ys isn't available for download. I would've like to hear it.

My favorites are Chaosium Sword, Parasprinter, Wily's Castle (highly recommended), and Sonic and Knuckles.

Thanks guys. Good to know that I don't need a converter to play imports because I want to get GG Aleste and GG Aleste 2.

I've just finish beating both games using Kega Fusion. They're both just great shmups and I must have them. That and because I'm a COMPILE nut who must have every game that has the words Zanac or Aleste on the front cover.

I'll everntually get a battery pack, but that will be low priority since my spending money is limited (less than $60). College fees, books, and Apt rent has nearly drained my coffer right now.

I have one more question. How good is the display on the GameGear while playing a game?

I also plan on getting some japanese carts. Is there going to be a problem playing imports?

I've played Terra Cresta on the nes and its one best shmups on that console. Very alestean IMHO, mainly because its a veritical shooter, plenty of firepower, and the powerups are numbered like in Zanac/Aleste.

Have you also tried Moon Cresta in the arcade, its the prequel to Terra Cresta?
