Quote from: radiantgunJust recieved another two hu cards in the post this morning - Bloody Wolf and Outrun - by heck this pc engine collecting has me bitten ! I seem to be recieving a game a day at the moment ! I sold my neo stuff to save me money - I seem to be buying more now ! Will this pass is it just a phase I'm going through ...................HELP ! ! !

 :D

Calm down and take deep breaths.

First, I just want to say why did you sell your NEO?!

Second, you've become a compulsive buyer. Very common among new people who just begun collecting games for retro systems that everyone thinks is cool. You're not the only one, I've been there.

You're probably combing the interent for pce reviews, and then handing over wads of cash for the games that are considered the best in every genre. Please, don't do that. You'll waste your money that way.

Your going to make it dont worry.

Here some advice to keep you from falling into the money pit:

Limit yourself to 5 games, and play them. I really mean it.

Or better yet, play them on an emulator like Magic Engine. After hour, if you don't like the game then don't buy it.

Steam Heart's is actually a good game. Its a vertical shooter and it has booster thrusters like Rayxanber III which I enjoy alot. The ability to zoom to the other side of the screen to dodge bullets is very cool. Steam Heart's has hentai cutscenes, so it's not for everyone. The hentai scenes is small compare to Steam Hearts's on the NEC PC98, which has complete sex scenes with japanese blur censorship. But the pce port is much better than the pc98 port overall because it has better gameplay and music.

Got my eye on...

Psychic Storm
Steam Heart's
Kyuukyoku Tiger
Gunhed (want to replace old one which is in bad shape)
Spriggan (I have this, but I want the spine card)

Quote from: TronGot a few in mind.

Godpanic/dunno i haven't seen it much lately.
Rayxanber III/Sure II is easy to come by but i want III frist
Legend of Hero Toma
Macross 2306
Emerald Dragon

I still got my eye on, Slyphia and, Nexzr but i'll get those for last since there expensive.

Still i've slow down on buying games for my Duo-R.

Right now i'm just working on getting more games for my, Famicom frist. Then i'll switch back to shopping for pce games.

Rayxanber III is fantastic shooter, but the difficultly might disapoint you. Kinda easy.

Slyphia is overrated. It's not a bad game, but not worth the $100+ it goes for.

General Gaming / Which system to get??

The Dreamcast can be bought cheap almost anywhere. Japangamestock.com sell the japanese console for peanuts.

CDX/x-eye system are rare and extremely expensive. Best to try YHJ or ebay for those.

Although I think buying a Genesis and sega cd separately is cheaper and easier to find.

I always prefered the Model 1 with front loader sega-cd. It just looks cooler.

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Snatcher

Quote from: stevek666Back on topic: was a FM-Towns / Marty version of Snatcher ever made? That would have been something...

Nope, no such thing exist. I wish...

Quote from: GUTSYeah really, Europe missed out on a lot of cool console stuff back in the day, but they more than made up for it with all the kickass computer stuff they had. I would have killed for an Amiga when I was a kid!

The Amiga was sweet machine and it had the best version of Maniac Manison. Definitely kicked the crap out of my C64.

Sega Saturn because it has plenty of shooters and action/arcade style games.

Second pick would be Neo Geo, but starting a collection in this area is very expensive.

One rare nes game is Stack-Up. Only a limited number was ever produced. I actually used to own one myself. Back in '89 xmas I recieve a nes bundled with R.O.B. Stack-Up, Gyromite, and Duck-Hunt. Parents bought off a clearance sale for $99.

Duck-Hunt was a plus, but I was really disappointed when I got it because it didn't included Super Mario Bros.

The Stack-Up game is by far the most useless nes game I have ever played, you can only play it if you have R.O.B. I stored Stack-up, Gyromite, and R.O.B in a closet until I sold it all on ebay back in 2002.

I didn't expect anymore than $80, but the auction ended at $306. A friend of mine told me the driving force of the auction was Stack-Up because I was selling it complete and in mint.

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Snatcher
01/29/2006, 02:43 PM
Quote from: CrackTigerThe last part I was dissapointed with was some of the dialogue. However, a lot of the acting and dialogue is acceptible and overall its really just a mixed bag.

Mixed bag? I guess, but you can't argue that dialogue was done very well. Especially since Snatcher is hard to translate as some of the jokes are a part of Japanese culture.

QuoteThe other noticible difference in a cinema is when 'something' happens and Gillian ends up running behind Random Hagile's bike with his tie caught in it and the other version has Gillian hanging onto the back end of the bike. I don't remember which belongs to which version, but the tie gag was too comical for me(I think that its in the PCE version).

This scene I know is in the msx2 version. It happens when Gillian jumps out of the tricycle as it explodes.

PCE/TG-16|CD/SGX Discussion / Snatcher

Quote from: KeranuIsn't the Act 3 system in the PCE version automatic where you just sit and watch the computer kill the enemies?

Maybe, of course I've never played thru the entire pce version before. I do remember reading that Act 3 on the sega cd was more interactive than the pce. In Act 3 on the sega cd version, you had to kill the enemies yourself. So you might be right.

Currently, I'm on the low end. Simply using a 13in tv for my consoles: Nes, MSX2+, Duo-R, PS2.

For pc games and emu I'm running them off a laptop.

Toshiba Satellite
WinXP PRO
1.4ghz Pentium M Centrino
60 GB HDD
1GB Ram
16x DVD combo

Not the most powerful computer, but enough for my needs.

Quote from: monadsHas anyone played the PC Engine version?  I think it's all in Japanese so I'm out of luck but how does it compare to other versions on other systems like the Sega CD?

Just want to add that you if can't read japanese, getting the pce version isn't worth buying unless your're collecter/fan. On the other hand it's cheaper than the sega cd.

You can try and play though it if you want. Just randomly select commands until the story progresses, which I have been doing for several years while playing Policenauts in japanese.

Quote from: monadsThanks guys for the info. Just curious but I know the Sega CD has the option of the gun? Do you need it? or was it just an added feature to enhance gameplay. I don't think the PCE version had this gun support. I don't think a gun controller was ever released for PCE but I could be wrong.

The gun for the sega cd is purely optional, but exclusive to this port. The pce never had this feature

Quote from: monadsHas anyone played the PC Engine version?  I think it's all in Japanese so I'm out of luck but how does it compare to other versions on other systems like the Sega CD?

I've played through the segacd and msx versions only. The the pce version was the first to have the Act 3 and voice acting. It was considered a directors cut, but the differences between the pce vs sega cd are just the perverted scenes. I remember in the pce version, Gillian could find a porno tape, but this tape isn't available in the sega cd.

The msx version was translated in english by fans, but I would only consider playing this version after you finish the sega cd. The msx version was a port of the PC88 and its code was not optimized for loading speed. So it takes forever just the load the next scene, but played through it and I loved it. Act 2 is just the best.

The saturn and psx version are total crap compared to the pce or sega cd.

Snatcher was released on the PC88, MSX, PC-Engine, Sega CD, Saturn, PSX.

Those guys at canada is Old School Gamer.

Sorry to hear about your Duo, but I also ran into that problem before. I once played a backup copy of Fatal Fury Special. After 30 minutes of play my duo-r froze during loading screen. It stood there for ten minutes before I gave up and turned it off, thinking it was just a glitch. I turned it back on and none of my cd-rom games were being recognized including my originals. Thought mine was broken too, but I left it alone to cool down over the night. The next morning my duo-r was running normal.

Edit- I suggest never to use backups in duos. Use them in Magic Engine.

Quote from: stevek666I recently purchased the Japanese Cybercore HuCard (I should be getting it next week). Who knows? Maybe they dumbed down this game like they did for Sinistron? Both games were published by IGS, who also handled the North American releases, so I think there's a good chance they tinkered with the TG-16 version! If I had to guess, I'd say that they neutered some of the bosses for the TG-16 version (I hope so, anyway!). Realistically, though, I expect the games to be identical :(.

I haven't played Cybercore on the pce either, but if you thought it was a let down then should also try the X68000 version. I read its much more harder.

Quote from: PC GaijinHowever, the two extra stages on Super Raiden sounds intriguing. As I said level 8 and the boss were kind of a letdown for me. I never made it that far in the arcade version, so does anyone know if the arcade game had 8 levels too? Are the Super Raiden level 9 and 10 something exclusive to that game or are they in the arcade game too? Just wondering how complete a port the HuCard is. And man if 9 and 10 are as tough as you say they are rolins....hmm, I don't know if I'm up for it haha.

Stage 9 isn't too bad, it's like every other level in the game. When you get to stage 10 don't blink because there's always one bullet that pass the corner of your eye. As for the Arcade version, I've never played it.

Quote from: PC GaijinThe only real complaints I have about Raiden are that your ship moves too slow (way too slow for how fast some of the enemy shots are), and like too many shooters if you die and lose your powerups late in the game you might as well start over. Other than that I love it.

I agree, this game is unforgiving like R-Type. If you die even once, forget about continuing. Just reset your duo and begin again from square one.

Quote from: PC Gaijinstevek666, I can beat Sinistron  I remember some of the stages were a real pain the rear.

I haven't played Sinistron yet. I probably should check this game out to see how hard it is.

Quote from: lkermelHas anyone ever finished Super Raiden ? Just to check if this is also the case for the CDRom version.

I've beaten Super Raiden. If you check the link I posted previously in this thread you can read the differences between the hucard and cd-rom version.
#924
Congrats, on beating Raiden. You really should give yourself pat on the back because Raiden is tough. If you think your skills are superb now then give Super Raiden a shot. It has two extra levels. Stage 10 being the hardest. I manage to beat it only once.

Quote from: PC GaijinAnyway, I'm looking forward to an awesome ending...or an ending of some kind even if it's just a credit roll. I get a "Mission Completed" and a 1,000,000 point bonus...then the game starts over at level 1. Doh! Does anyone know if there's any true ending to the game or does it just repeat like that? Oh well, I'm was too damn tired to try another run through (it took me almost an hour and a half to beat it the first time, pretty long for a shooter). Final score was 2,429,350 with 8 ships and 2 bombs in reserve. 8)

Yeah, there is no real ending for Raiden (hucard). Only Super Raiden (scd) has one. You can check out my post here to read about stage 9 + 10, and the ending.

I haven't played any of the CV games on the ps2 or the GBA. I wouldn't mind for your opinion though. The latest CV games I've played was SOTN and Chronicles for the ps1. I own a ps2 but the only games I own are ddr max, mgs2, and mgs3. The only reason I bought a ps2 is for metal gear. Currently my ps2 sits under my tv, only being used as a dvd player and to play ddr for some exercise.

Yup yup that's me

Yeah, seems like I'll go for yet another duo-r/rx (when I have been digging up enough gold to afford one), while having 2 duos failing on me in 6months I must be one unlucky S.O.B or the pc-engine sceene is a far for expensive playground than I imagined

Thank you everyone for your input :)

You weren't the only unlucky SOB. I bought two black duos from japangamestock and they both suffered from audio problems. I sold both duos on ebay and used the money to buy a duo-r. No problems with audio any more.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritYes XX is the Japanese version of Dracula X on SNES only difference is the blood and sweat.

I have the actual cartridge of XX for my Super Famicom system.

*I* personally think it's just as good as Rondo of Blood. As long as I know its a cartridge and it's gonna move slightly slower and not to expect CD quality digitized instruments, I've liked this version from the first time I played it.

Me too, I actually enjoyed playing it. The snes version has gained a rep as the bastard child among CV games, but it's a good game if you look past resembles to DracX.

I do think the music for castlevania X was well done on the snes. Even without the redbook audio the tunes did justice.
#930
Quote from: KeranuThere is never much talk about Blood Gear on the net, but everyone that does mention it agrees that it's awesome.

What kind of game is Blood Gear? I've heard of this game before but can't find a review of it anywhere. I checked out pcecp.com and from the screenshots it looks similar to Front Mission Gun Hazard (SFC).
#931
Quote from: cavein2000awesome... how about castlvania xx for sfc or the other sfc title?  What are they like?

Thats the japanese import of Castlevaina X for the snes, right? Well I've never played any of the imported version so I can't tell.
#932
Quote from: cavein2000oh btw rolins, I have a copy of dracula x, I def want an original though, just curious how the others compare.  So far I've heard mixed reviews of the PCE vs SNES comparison.

Well with out a doubt the pce version is best. As pixeljunkie mentioned earlier this version has cutscenes and an amazing soundtrack. The gameplay is traditional with alternate routes and a second playable character. Kinda like CV3 on the nes, but not as difficult.

The snes version was suppose to be a port of the pce verion, but the only similarity was in appearance. The important features of the pce version was changed for the snes. The snes version had different level designs, two alternate routes, no cutscenes, and no second playable character.
#933
Quote from: pixeljunkieI LOVE Nexzr! I haven't been able to beat it yet....seriously one of the TOUGHEST shmups I've ever played. Congrats!

Nexzr is definitely one of my favorite shmups, only second to Super Raiden. The music is outstanding and think the difficulty is around medium-hard. I've been able to beat it several times already. The hardest part in the game is stage 6 where you must navigate thru an obstacle couse. I think I spent several weeks trying to pass that stage. My favorite level in this game is stage 5 where you face off against armada ship. The enemies on this stage are persistent including the robots with shields.

Quote from: cavein2000I am looking into purchasing Castlevania X and Super Castlevania IV on SNES along with Chronicles for PS1.  Any input on these?  What would you pay for these?  Castlevania X for SNES is going for about $50 now on ebay - think that is a bit much no?  Any other feedback welcome.

Castlevania X on the snes is a decent game, and if your're a CV fan like me I play it. It has good level design and fair amount of difficultly. This game doesn't usually get alot of buzz because its always compared to DracX for the pce. DracX is a fantastic game and lives up to the hype it recieves. I've beaten DracX like 5 times over, but I don't own DracX because of the price. I'm just happy to play a backup using ME. I would rather spend $100 on several other games.

Edit:
Damn, forgot to mention the other two games in your post.

Castlevania IV (snes) - Great game, a must play for all CV fans.

Chronicles (ps1) - Make sure you get the US version, because the Eu and Jp version has a few bugs. Anyway, this game is remake of the CV1 starting Simon Belmont, and its tough just the way I like it. Although I prefer the X68K version better.

I more of a fan of the traditional CV games with hard difficulty. So my pick would be Chronicles. If you don't like tough CV games check out Castlevania IV, it's difficulty is at medium and well balanced.
#935
Quote from: DaveGeorgeIs it true that loose cdrom2 or Super CDrom2 units are of better quality than those of the DUO/DUO-R/DUO-RX?

Not really, all pc-engine cd units are prone to failure. It just seem that the duo-r and duo-rx recieves the least of problems.

Has anyone heard of these websites before.

Tool Assisted Console Game Movies
Speed Demos Archive

These are perhaps two of the most interesting I've seen because they post movies of player's fastest time to beat a game. There is one major difference between websites and thats their approach. Tool Assisted Console Game Movies uses emulators to create the movies and encourage the use of slow motion and save states to gain the fastest time. Thats why when you watch some of the movies (NES - Gradius for example) the player would seem to have god-like reflexes. The other site, Speed Demos Archive, all submitted movies are recorded from actual gaming hardware, no emulators used. So whatever you see is pure skill of the player. Thats why when you watch their movies it's grainy because players record them from VHS then convert to avi. It's too bad there are no entries of tg16 games.

Quote from: dj898i'd say it's the beginning of the year and things could be busy - heck I'm busy right now all the things business and family life and video gaming has taken bit of holiday at the moment - it's been almost a month last time I fire up the console.. :(

I agree, but I think there is another reason for the low attendance. Members leave because their interest in the system is more like a phase in their life. Not all members here are die-hard turbo/pce fans, and many got into the system after playing DracX on ME. I bet more than half of the registered members here have never actually played a real turbo/pce game untill ebay appeared. Players have this compulsive desire to waste their money on buying the most rarest games and they don't really play them. Instead the pce and games are just being used as show pieces to their friends. I've already seen one member here who joined several month ago and had just started his tg16 collection. I remember he bought a bunch of expensive hucards and was very excited entering the turbo community. About 2 or 3 months afterwards he posted his entire collection for sale because lack of interest.

General Gaming / MGD2?
01/20/2006, 10:04 PM
Quote from: CrackTigerIsn't it a Megadrive/Genesis back up unit?

The MDG2 can be used on several systems pce, megadrive, and the snes. The drawback to the MDG2 is the external flash carts and modules that it uses for each system are rare to find. The MDG2 is very obsolete these days as there are better alternatives for backing up rom cartridges, but I'm not going to say where you can buy them.

Have you tried cleaning the gold contacts of your system card? You can use regular windex and q-tip to do it.

Also, are you playing games on cd-r backups or originals?

Quote from: stevek666Don't tell me how to beat the stage 8 boss (I like to figure stuff out), but please tell me what stage 9 and 10 are like!

Since we're on the subject: I've been playing Raiden 2 at the laundromat a lot recently.

Sure I'll describe what you'll encounter and I'll leave out any boss strategies too.

Stage 9 starts out in deep black space with bright-blue black holes in the background, but most of the battle is on a space station. The stage introduces two new annoying enemies that will irritate you in Stage 10: the blue flying robots and the brown walking robots. The blue robots come in packs and love to scare you by almost running into you. Their attack style is to shoot you up close and run away (cowards). The brown robots also attack in numbers but only appear midway in stage 9. They'll first appear coming out of a hanger in groups and will each shoot a bullet. What's tough about them is they appear at a moment when you're very close to them, and they're the quickest shooters. Even if you kill them first, they'll still manage to take shot at you, and you'll have to quickly get out you're their way.

Right after you encounter the brown robots you'll be in corridor with water below, and purple boats racing around. I have no idea why there is a pool of water or even boats in space, but don't underestimate the purple boats. Three boats will appear going in opposite directions shooting at the same time to intercept you, and then three more from the top of the screen. These bastards have plenty of hit-points and they shoot three bullets in your directions.

After passing the purple boats you'll reach the end and meet the boss. There are two bosses here. Both have a square-frame with four legs coming out of them, and they shoot all over the place. These guys had me pushed to corners dodging all their bullets and always getting killed, but they have a weakness. I won't spoil it for you but when found out its weakness I was laughing my guts out when I destroyed it in 19 seconds, no bombs needed.

Stage 10 is the toughest. Still set in space on another space station. The blue and brown robots in the previous stage are here and you will be seeing a lot of them. Also a brand new annoying enemy appears here too and I call them streamers (like firecrackers). They look like gliders and arrive in pairs of three, and spin around shooting bullets. Fighting one of them is enough, but three makes it difficult to get in close to kill them. Not to mention you're still dodging and killing those pesky blue and brown robots at the same time.

The hardest part in this stage is an area before you meet the boss. You'll know when you see two rows of blocks. The block have the colors blue/green on the outside and solid red on the inside. When you make it here, it's the checkpoint so if you die at the final boss you're spawned back here where those blocks are. This is not a good thing because this area is the worst place to be re-spawned. This area has railroad tracks on both sides of the screen, and they going up and down. The right side railroad has three tanks moving up along those tracks constantly attacking you pushing you to left side. These tanks are difficult to kill, and throwing a bomb at them doesn't always kill them. As you're being pushed to the left side, there is also a one large tank on the left railroad to nail you. That's not all because you still have to deal with the constant barrage of streamers and blue robots.

If you made past everything else you see the final boss. It's a large and almost circular ship with two crab-like appendages. It has six smaller guns and its attack pattern is similar to Stage 7 boss. This thing has the most hit-points in the game and when you think you've destroyed it, this boss will try stab you in back with a cheap shot. I've only been able to beat this boss once.

Boss Speed Kills
Stage 1 - 15 sec (no bombs used)
Stage 6 - 10 sec
Stage 8 - 30 sec
Stage 9 - 19 sec (no bombs used)

Quote from: cavein2000Hey, I realize that these are different genres, but what order would you purchase these games in?  Recently picked up a Supergrafx/cd-rom rom.  I only own ghouls and ghosts as of now.

Here are the games I'm interested in;

Lords of Thunder/Winds of Thunder
PC Denjin (CD/hucard)
Pop N' Magic
Star Parodier

I'm looking to pick up games for $30 and under for now, but if you know any need to buy games, give me a heads up.

Well for $30 you can buy a Lords of Thunder at Turbo Zone Direct. The people at TZD are friendly and they only sell new/unopened tg16 stuff.

I haven't played PC Denjin or Pop N' Magic, but have played the other two on your list. Star Parodier is a colorful shooter and its intro is more entertaining than Lords of Thunder. My favorite stage is where you fight the level 4 boss of Super Star Soldier, and also the Bomberman stage.

Still you can't go wrong with Lords of Thunder. It's a classic shooter and that should be in everyones turbo library. Amazing graphics, gigantic bosses, and the challenge should keep you occupied for several weeks. Where as Star Parodier can be beaten in a day or two.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritNo they're in all 3 NES Ninja Gaidens in fact.

What I was referring to was that one of the two doesn't take damage and you eliminate by killing it leaving the real one that takes damage by its life meter.

I guess I never really bother to notice it in NG1 because I always killed the left most Kelbeross with the jump n' slash technique.

Which reminds me. The jump n' slash tech in NG1 used to kill bosses in one go, but in the pce version the jump n' slash is weaker. I can't use it to kill even the stage 1 boss with one jump.
#944
Quote from: Ninja SpiritEDIT: Found another NES/PCE difference.

The stage 4 boss "Kelbeross", there is no false one, they take damage no matter what.

Doesn't this false kelberos only appear in NG2?

I did it, I finally beat Super Raiden (scd) two days ago. I bought this game back in sept 2005 and haven't been able stop playing it. I loved this game so much that I bought the japanese hucard back in nov 2005, so I can play it on my GT while at work. This game is hard, and more difficult than Sidearms and Nexzr put together. I haven't had this feeling since I beat Super Star Soldier which I think comes in second to Super Raiden in difficulty. Just last night I played thru the entire game except this time on the japanese hucard. I was under the impression after reading several reviews that both the scd and hucard version are identical  (minus the music), but there are some major differences.

1.) The most noticable difference is the music and sfx. The music in the SCD is in redbook audio and sound alot better than on the hucard.

2.)The major difference is the SCD version has two extra stages for a total of 10 stages. The hucard only has only 8 stages. From stage 1 to 8 they are identical on both version.

3.)Another difference is the ending. After beating the stage 10 boss, in the SCD version, you get to see a small animation of Raiden flying off into space while leaving behind some boss wreakage. Then the credits roll and then your're dumped back to stage 1.
When you beat the stage 8 boss in the hucard version, you're told "mission completed" and you're awared a million points. You're then immediatley dumped at stage 1. There is no credits or even a picture ever shown at the end. Lame.

As I said earlier Super Raiden is tough, and if you manage to beat stage 8 wait until you get to stage 10 (stage 9 isn't as tough as stage 10 trust me). Stage 10 is the longest and hardest level in Super Raiden. Enemies are aggresive and a barrage of bullets are constantly coming towards you. I have more difficulty going thru all the enemies than fighting the last boss. It is important to max out on red and green powerups before entering this stage, and if you die even once forget about continuing. Reset your duo and start over because it will be impossible to recover. With out your weapons at maximum you will not survive the full onslaught of an entire army.

Super Raiden is solid shooter that will keep you occupied for months. To survive this game keep your thumbs in good condition because you'll be constantly moving that d-pad to dodge those bullets in narrow spaces. And dodging bullets is part of the whole fun of this game.

While your waiting to buy an original cd game, you might want to try playing a music cd. If you don't hear any music your super-cd system might just caught the plague.

YHJ or Yahoo Japan Auctions is probably the best place for japanese imports. All auctions are in japanese and sellers usually won't deal with bidders outside japan. So around this I suggest going here Shopping Mall Japan. It's a great website because they translate all the japanese text to english, and they will handle all of the transactions and S&H.

There is one more thing you should know about YHJ. If someone bids on a auction within the last 5 minutes of closing. The time gets extended by 5 or 10 more minutes. This is helpful against those snipers.

My winter break from college has been a blast. I spent all my free time beating all the video games I bought since the beginning of 2005. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX I had borrowed from a good friend from Japan, and the NES games I was replaying them out of nostalgia.

PCE:
Kyuukyoku Tiger --this is my new favorite pce game. the gameplay is similar to Raiden, it's challenging, and looks amazing on the GT.
Nexzr --great shmup. stage 6 is tricky and the final boss can be cheap.
Xak III --great story and nice Eng translation by Nightwolve. the game was too short and bosses are weaklings.
Bomberman 94 --my favorite in the bomberman series.
Super Raiden --addictive gameplay. i'm still stuggling to past stage 8.

MSX: using a MSX2+ computer - Sony HB-F1XV
Metal Gear --superior to the nes version in dialog, gameplay, graphics, everything. you actually get to face Metal Gear. my fastest time is 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake --it's like playing MGS in 8bit graphics.
Vampire Killer --this one plays a little different than the original Castlevania for the nes, but I like this version better.
Snatcher --this game will test your patience b/c the loading times are horrendous. only play this version if you're a Snatcher fan.
King's Valley II (msx2 version) --very good puzzle game, a must play.
Maze of Galious --probably the best platform/adventure game on the MSX.

NES:
Ninja Gaiden --the first game I ever bought for the nes, and absolute favorite game on this console.
Gun Nac --great shmup by Compile, it's suppose to be a parody of Zanac.
River City Ransom --my favorite beat'em up.
Bionic Commando --great game and innovative. I just wish the diffculty was set higher.
Akumajou Densetsu --japanese version of CV3. better music and easier than the American version.
Crisis Force --a shmup by Konami and only released in Japan. this game is fantasic with amazing graphics for a famicom game.

Quote from: Ninja SpiritBecause I beat the final battles on my first run, I don't know whether the PC Engine version pulls off the groin kicker of starting you back at stage 6-1.

Yes, if you die in the final battle you're sent to the beginning of stage 6-1. Other differences are the name changes. Jaquio is known as the Devildoer and Ken Hayabusa is known as Joe Hayabusa.

I also played through the entire game and was disappointed with the two things: the difficulty and the music. The bosses are weaklings compared to the nes version, including Jaquio. Stage 5 + 6 are shorter and I was expecting to encounter more ninjas on jetpacks. The music could have been better. Some of the tunes I couldn't recognize as either remixes of the nes version or original tunes. Anyway none of them were memorable or catchy. But I still enjoyed this version very much, especially the redrawn cut scenes.

Never seen a usb adpator for Turbo pads, but you can have yours modified at the RetroZone. I purchased a usb NES controller and it is my favorite controller for all my emulators requiring only buttons. Works perfect in Magic Engine, FCE Ultra, BlueMSX, and MAME.
