12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Any person here have one for sale?

Quote from: nimteneI've got a TurboGrafx System with the CD
attachment. It boots up fine with the basic
CD system card. And Japanese games will
play fine with the Purple Barney converter
that I use.

I got a Japanese Super System card a while
back, and finally got a Super CD to play with
it Today. I booted my system up with the 3.0
card, and the 'Push Run Button!' screen came
up. I put the SCD in, and press the Run button.
Then the screen says 'Just A Moment,' like any
loading CD does. A few minutes later, it's still
on this screen, and I'm getting impatient, so I
turn off the system, and re-power the unit up.

Now, the system won't boot up with the 3.0
card at all. Maybe the card was formatting or
something when I turned it off? Any idea if the
card is ruined? Any way for me to reset it, or
test it? Tried it on my turbo-express, but I get
the same white/green/blue screen that I get
when I try to boot the 3.0 card on my TV. Any
suggestions would be very greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,
Chris Vick

The gold contacts on your system card 3.0 might be dirty. Try cleaning them with a Q-Tip and some regular windex or isopropyl alcohol.

Quote from: jmac888hello all, just wondering i got fighting street on the cd  and try loading up on my pc engine duo but after you select country it stops at round 1??
then does nothing, i left it on for like 10 mins but it doesnt get into the game, does this play alone on the duo itself or do i need a arcade card??
many thanks for your replys:) 8)

Fighting Street doesn't require an Arcade Card. Is your game a real copy or backup on cd-r?

Off-Topic / Snatcher for Sega CD

Quote from: Ninja SpiritOh wow! Meryl Silverburg from MGS2 made her debut in Policenauts? That's awesome I didnt know that.

I've had Sega Saturn Snatcher and Policenauts for PS1 for 3 years, but didnt play much of neither due to the language barrier. They're still staying in my collection just for peace of mind.

The Meryl Silverburg in MGS and in Policenauts might actually be two different people because both episodes are set 35 years apart. In MGS, Snake meets Meryl in her late teens and in Policenauts she is 24 years old. I think Kojima goofed on the time line or Meryl (from MGS) was just there as a cameo. I hope she will return to another Metal Gear game that would be cool.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Selling Pc Engine GT
10/23/2005, 02:58 AM
TurboDawg, thanks for the GT. The missing battery cover was not a problem since I already have a replacement. Everything is working okay and there is no problem with quiet sound. So far I've used it to play Bomberman 94, Soldier Blade, and Sidearms. Sidearms doesn't really look good on the GT but still enjoyable. However, Bomberban 94 and Soldier Blade look outstanding. Now I have a working GT and TE, no need to buy a converter.

If anyone is looking for a compatible external rechargable battery for your TE/GT look here.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Deadbeat sellers on ebay
10/22/2005, 01:35 AM
Most members on this forum use ebay to buy pce/tg16 stuff. It's one the best places to get bargin deals on hard to find items. I've been using ebay for 5 years now and have not experienced any trouble, but every now and then I read about a buyer's horror experience with another ebay seller. Either because the seller was an absolute jerk, too slow respond emails, sent wrong/broken items, gave misleading info, or sold pirated merchandise.  Asshole sellers waste our the time and money. We can't get rid of them so we have to avoid them. I've read through some older posts in the forum and these three made the list of Deadbeat sellers. Anyone know another seller to add here?

Quote from: plasticrelicI Just bought a broken TE for use as parts if my first one dies. To my suprise, I was able to get this one to operate. Although, it has low sound and the screen took a little while to start working. I set it down and the screen went completely out and a small tap on the case and it came back. I would like to know if you guys think it is worth the effort to try to repair it or just put it in the closet for use as parts as planed.

Just keep the TE for parts. Maybe in the future someone will find a fix.

Quote from: stevek6661. After a really yummy dinner, my mom makes some popcorn and serves it. I guess we wanted something to snack on, but that was light. The Swiss folk are loving the popcorn. Totally intrigued by it, in fact. They keep asking, "What is this?" By the time we managed to explain that it was popped corn, they have eaten handfuls of the stuff.

"Corn?"
"Yeah, popped corn."
"Oh." Eating stops.
"Don't you want any more?"
"No, that's OK."

It turned out that they considered corn to be "pig's food" (as in, pig on a farm") and they never ate the stuff. What??? Anyway, they really were turned off to it, just by finding out it was corn.

I know, how could they be anti-corn?  I didn't think of it at the time, but if I were evil I would have given them snacks made from corn meal

You're not only one. I encounter the same situation when I invited my neighbor's grandfather to our BBQ party 7 years ago. He just arrived from China and it was his first time in America. I offered him some corn and he declined. I found it odd and disrespectful. I thought everyone loves corn.

"Why are you giving me pig food?"
"huh...Pig food? I'm sorry you don't like corn?"
"Corn is used to feed pigs."
"We'll here in the U.S. corn isn't for pigs. It tastes very good. Please try it."
[cheww....cheww....chew]
"This is corn?! This is good."

I loved the expression on his face after he bit into that corn. I like that old man. The jokes he said at party are funny as hell, and damn he sure can eat a lot of BBQ chicken and sirloin steak.

Quote from: KeranuWhat does "CIB" mean?

CIB = comes in box

Wrong.

CIB = cartridge, instructions & box (i.e. complete)

And what was mentioned before is true. This game was in a competition only. Very rare title. Pretty nice game too.

I always assumed CIB means "comes in box". Since MIB means "mint in box" and NIB means "new in box". I re-checked what CIB means on http://www.acronymfinder.com and it means "complete in box". But no one really use these arconyms often on ebay because buyers get confused about their meaning.

Heck i wanna play the original MSX MG

Wich is supose to a add bouns to the game.

Why wait, you can play them on your PC with an emulator. You should also try Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX2. Much of the story plot and elements from this game were revamped into Metal Gear Solid for the PSone. It was never released outside of japan, but there is a english translated rom if you search around on google.

If you looking for a MSX emulator I highly recommend BlueMSX. If your a linux user than go for OpenMSX.

Quote from: KeranuIf you are still interested in a PCE GT, check out TurboDawg's thread here https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=1038 .

Maybe if he's willing to sell it for $65, but I don't think he will. I already purchased a brandnew TE for $150 and I'm very happy with it. I already ordered an external rechargeable battery pack, so I can take it with me on road trips. My only gripe is I only have Blazing Lazers to play and I have a bunch of pce games. I thought about buying a converter from TZD for $99, but I've decided to save my money to get a pce-pro flash cart instead (I always wanted one of those).

I'm also trying to collect some broken/non-working TE so I can practice my soldering skills. I'm planning to install a region switch myself once I get a supply of 8PDT switches.

You too huh. Just three questions Radiant.

1. Does your TE have weak sound?

2. When the screen goes "black" are you able to increase the brightness?

3. Were you using rechargeable AA batteries when the screen went dark?

I know the same feeling. When a rare game comes along you'll stop at nothing to have it. I paid ~$135 for Aleste 2 off Yahoo Japan and my limit was $80. I was angry at the closing price when I came to my senses, but I felt better when I recieved it. Aleste 2 for the MSX2+ computer. It came in mint condition with the box, 3x disks, manual, character booklet, and paper airplane templates! These templates are near-impossible to find. Yes, I know it's not a tg16 game, but Aleste 2 is my favorite game.

Tron, you maybe angry about the price now. But when you recieve it you'll realize it was worth every penny.

Quote from: PCEngineHellWell, incase you care to protect the other members on this forum, you could name a name of the person.Selling doa junk isnt cool.

It wasn't doa when a got it and it actually worked normally when I first turned it on. I do suspect the former user(s) unknowingly damaged the GT when using the ac adaptor without a transformer or ran the unit with rechargeable batteries for long periods of time. I don't blame the person who sold it to me and the seller was willing to help me troubleshoot the problem. Besides, a GT/TE are not the most reliable piece of hardware and quite hard to find one without problems. Quiet sound is one of them, and another might be what other members and I are experiencing with their TE/ GT.

I just talked to an old friend and his TE just died on him a week ago. Except he was still able to run the TE with the ac adaptor but not with batteries. Which leads me to believe I may still have a shot at resurecting my dead GT if I use an ac adaptor.

And no, I won't give out names because I think the seller is good person and didn't mean to sell me a faulty GT. He was responsive to emails and packaged the item very well. It was just unfortunate that the GT died on me.

Quote from: MotherGunnerI know D-lite won't region mod TE's (yet : ) ).  However if there was a group that could do it, it be these guys.  Im not sure though, youd have to email them

They are based in Canada.

I asked them two days ago and they refused. They said installing a region mod on a TE is difficult and unreliable. I also checked with Duo_R and he refused to do it too.

The old plextor (forgot what model) cdrw burners are good and reliable, but they're hard to find especially a 1x speed. An alternative are the older HP cd-writer. Those are frequent on ebay and cheap too. The problem with the older HP cd-writer is many of them lack important features such as over-burn, burn-proof, or SAO.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WANTED: pc-engine GT
09/22/2005, 09:45 PM
Quote from: MotherGunnerSo the problem is not the screen.  I believe it lies within the power supply.  It may be a blown cap, or some other problem.  The fact that it needs to "warm up" lends me to believe that something needs to be fully charged in order to function.

I wouldn't worry about getting another GT with a perfect screen.  Just make sure that the power works.

Yeah I know. My inital plan was to buy a another working GT, and then replace its exterior case with my dead GT's near-mint casing. But they're still expensive to import one. A GT in decent condition goes for ~$75, and then add ~$40 for s&h (from japan) thats $115 minimum. Thats how much a used TE costs.

Recently I just purchased a brand new TE from D-Lite (still waiting for it in the mail). With a TE I don't have to worry about using the ac adaptor with a step down transformer. I'm hoping I'll be able get a region mod installed in the future because all games right now are japanese hucards. I guess I'll have to buy a converter.
#989
Quote from: MotherGunnerSorry guys I should have given more info.  I have a Duo-R coming from D-Lite with all the goodies.  However, I was still considering getting a US TG 16 CD (modded).

I wanted to be able to only own one card.   I know that the AC Pro would be redundant on the Duo-R, however, would it still work?  I take it from previous comments that it would.  But I'd be killing two birds with one stone since I could later use it on my TG-CD.

Thanks

No way around it. To play Fatal Fury Special on a DuoR you need the Arcade Duo card. If you want to play it on the TG16+CD you need the Arcade Pro card (with a pce converter if your TG16 doesn't have a region switch).
#990
Quote from: Kaminari
Quote from: rolinsWait, not all japanese pce consoles. If you have the coregrafx + Super CD unit you have to use the Duo card.

Nope. The AC Pro is an AC Duo with a Super System BIOS included -- and exactly as you can boot a Super CD-ROM with a Super System Card (there's no point of course, but it's possible), you can perfectly boot a Super CD-ROM with an AC Pro.

Seems like a waste of money to use a Pro card on a coregrafx w/ SCD if you cant play Arcade games, and SCD unit already has super system card 3.0 built-in.
#991
Quote from: Keranu
Quote from: rolinsNo, you must have the Duo card. Pro card is only for the PCE/coregrafx with CD unit (briefcase).
You have it mixed up. Arcade Card Pro can be used on all Japanese PCE consoles while Arcade Card Duo can only be used for PCE Duo systems only.

Wait, not all japanese pce consoles. If you have the coregrafx + Super CD unit then you must use the Duo card.

Quote from: Keranu
Quote from: MotherGunnerI know about the Duo card but I may also be getting a TG-CD setup later, and I don't want to buy another card. This way I can use the Pro on both.)
You can't use any Arcade Card on a TG16-CD set up since it's Japanese and TG-16 can't play Japanese HuCards, nor can PCE systems play American HuCards. You could buy a converter to use the Arcade Card Pro or get your TG16+CD modded by people such as D-Lite to play your Arcade Card Pro, along with Japanese HuCards in general of course.

Defintely get a the region modded TG16. Much cheaper than buying a PCE converter and a Arcade Pro card.
#992
Quote from: MotherGunnerHi all please exuse my noobness...

1.  Can you use an Arcade Card Pro on a Duo-r?  (I know about the Duo card but I may also be getting a TG-CD setup later, and I don't want to buy another card.  This way I can use the Pro on both.)

No, you must have the Duo card. Pro card is only for the PCE/coregrafx with CD unit (briefcase).

Quote from: MotherGunner2.  Which game is better  Fatal Fury 2 or Special?  Please elaborate.

I would go for the Fatal Fury Special. It's the best SNK port on the PCE, and it has better loading time than FF2.

Quote from: GUTSWell since you don't care about playing US games, couldn't you just cut the traces on the cartridge connector and re-wire them to accept Jap hucards?  It seems like you could just use D-lite's instructions only minus the switch to permantly make it Jap only.

Where are these instructions posted anyway? I know on a japanese PCE, in order to play US hucards you need to ground pin29 of the Hu6280 chip. But I don't know if this applies on a TE.
#999
Quote from: lord_cackI don't think there is any other way around it....and since you don't have a TE already then where is the harm in spending the extra cash on the GT... :)

Yeah, I know it's a lot trouble just to buy a TE to play pce games. But GTs are more expensive and tough to find one in very good condition. I'm also worried about using an ac adaptor.  I might fry the GT with my 120v outlet, whereas I won't have that problem with a TE. I don't need two dead GTs.
