On another note, at the moment I'm screwing around with an old cassette tape deck (Pioneer CT-W530R) I got second hand locally.
Having already cleaned the heads and relubed some of the bearings/bushings that are more easily accessible. But it looks like I've got to open up the machine one more time and do some disassembly to get to servicing the motors and other not so obvious bushings. The screeching noise coming from inside of the machine isn't funny anymore. Oh well.
Also got some Maxell UR-90 blank tapes. Ferric, but they seem to be the only tapes around that are still produced and do not cost you and arm and a leg. Let's see how my old childhood tapes perform on this machine once I'm done servicing it.
EDIT: Just done recording Duane & Brando's LP of Devastation onto some used Sony EF Super-60 ferric tape and now listening to it. Dolby C noise reduction was applied, makes it sound rather nice. That screeching I told you made the recording vary in speed on some portions. So I'll re-record this another time.

I'm using an universal switchting mode psu like this one from Goobay for my Turbo Duo:
The specs say 60 W, so there's plenty of angry pixie flow available even at 10 V DC. Also pretty handy when doing electronics projects or just powering other devices that are more hungry than a Duo.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Back in the day when playing SSB with in four player mode, I noticed there was quite a slowdown on wider stages like Fox' stage. Still, I wonder how other N64 games managed to pull off having more than four mid-to-high poly count detailed characters on screen in a detailed level environment, without excessive slowdown. Smash Bros. stages with all the flat 2D sprite elements are sparse on detail as they are. And its blocky and pointy characters wouldn't look out of place in Quake 1. Donkey Kong's model has such sharp edges, he could double as a Shambler.

There's a small pass through adaptor made by Sony that had MiniDIN S-Video, RCA Composite Video and RCA Stereo Audio outputs. On the other end of the adaptor, there was a socket for attaching the regular A/V cable (no matter if Composite, S-Video, RGB or YPbPr). I think it was intended for use with HiFi systems and Lightguns.
EDIT: Model names:
SCPH-1160: grey (PS1 design). Has Composite Video and Stereo Audio
SCPH-10130: black (PS2 design). Has S-Video, Composite Video and Stereo Audio.
Both adaptors should work for PS1, PS2 and PS3, since the pinouts on the Multi AV jacks are the same (the only difference: PS2 and PS3 are able to toggle the RGB pins to YPbPr component video via system menu).
There's also the myth of the earliest PS1 revisions being superior CD-audio players, as told byaudiophiles idiots. That stupid myth has been busted long ago.
