super fast, super reliable, super hookup, super dean

- duo-r with region mod and s-vid mod
- 9 games that're quite hard to track down, all at better-than-reasonable (some at amazing) prices.

all have arrived and are gunning beautifully.

thanks a ton, good sir.

(for everyone else, if you've yet to purchase anything from this good man...  what the heck are you waiting for?)

Quote from: CosMind on 08/01/2007, 07:14 PMwell, if you take that stance, then imagine how much suckier the latter day ones are than those from miyamoto's directorial/game design golden age :P
How exactly is a fully 3D polygonal world suckier than an 8-bit clusterfuck's haphazard overworld?
by golden age, i refer to the snes era miyamoto games

Quote from: Kitsunexus on 08/01/2007, 03:33 PMBut Zelda sucks anyway, so I fail to see your point.
well, if you take that stance, then imagine how much suckier the latter day ones are than those from miyamoto's directorial/game design golden age :P

btw, just peeped the simpson's game vid linked here.  the visuals are phenomenally executed.  some of the best toon rendering i've seen.  now, let's hope it plays as well as it looks...
(i'll likely never even touch it, but i hope it rocks for those who do play it)

I'd LOVE Scrapland if it weren't for the goddamn Starforce...
mcgee didn't create scrapland.  he was only a producer.  that means he was primarily responsible for scheduling and management - not game design or creative vision.  huge difference between a producer and a director/game designer.

hence the reason why the latter day legend of zeldas pale in comparison to the early iterations in which miyamoto was actually involved as the director and game designer

Quote from: D-Lite on 07/30/2007, 01:01 PM...I guess only japanese people piss and fart
yes, the rest of the globe is a bit more polite - they only tinkle and toot.
#106
does valkyrie no densetsu require knowledge of japanese to play?

also, darius plus, or super darius?  i'm guessing that likely the only difference is the music - if so, are the tunes more preferable on the hu or disc rev?  if there are more differences than the music, what are they?
#107
hmmm, the visual fidelity is fine (if not a bit generic), but why must transitions to 3d always foresake playability?
peep the overhead dungeon gameplay shots.  the amount of viewable space from character to screen edge in all directions is significantly reduced compared to the pce/tgfx original.  gives me a feeling of claustrophobia just looking at it.  certainly, this will drop the player's capability to pre-plan for encounters that are more than 2 feet away from their character...

let's just hope they've completely tuned and balanced the game around this new, reduced view.
#108
really, any fun game that doesn't require knowledge of the japanese language to get through/fully enjoy.
honestly, i'm very open-minded.
#109
so, this will likely be a tough one.

what're the must-own pce hu-cards? (oh, ones that either don't have a u.s. version at all, or ones who's u.s. version is somehow really inferior)

i need to justify a potential investment in a dope region+svid modded duo-r
#110
i dig your concept of "no - maybe - yes", but would also add a final "must have" to the mix.

no - maybe - yes - must have

no = don't even bother
maybe = give it a try, you might enjoy it
yes = a definite play, possibly even a purchase
must have = a definitely must own
#111
so this puppy is still in the shrink wrap? (can't tell if it is or not from the ebay photo)
#112
holy smokes!
bingo!

now, i hope d-lite is going to be offering the service for compensation

so, in a bizarre turn of events, the redbook (cd) audio on my duo seems to be taking a dive.
whenever i turn it on, any cd audio is inaudible (basically, i don't get the cd music, but all board-driven sfx/jingles/etc. are fine).
however, it only remains as such for a few minutes - then the cd audio quickly blends back to audibility, and remains.
strange...  almost as if it has to "warm up" or something.

i've had this particular duo for about 10 years, but this just started occurring a couple of days ago.

anyone else ever run into this issue?  if so, any suggestions for remedying it?

Quote from: SNKNostalgia on 07/25/2007, 01:50 AM...R-type 2 (I need 1 now, wasn't aware of the split game crap haha)...
sorry to spin off topic, but i am actually really curious about this.  is the r-type hucard split only in the japanese version?  isn't there a u.s. hucard that has both parts on it at the same time?  i understand there's the japanese "complete" cd with both, and hucards for that region only come in the split.  but, for some reason i recall a u.s. hucard release that contains the full game.

please, correct me if i'm wrong.

and, back on subject.  wow, i didn't realize that the pce sfii: ce was colorfully (and possibly audibly) superior to the snes rev.  i've never bothered to even check it out because i've always really loved the snes rev.  looks like i've another hunt to go on now - thanks to you :P

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 07/25/2007, 02:08 AM...They sound much better than the Genesis version (Capcom really screwed that up)...
hey, don't blame capcom.  blame the piece of nuts sound chip in the sega genesis.  uggghhh...

would it happen to be a brand new, shrink-wrapped copy? (doubtful, but thought i'd ask just in case  )

Quote from: Digi.k on 07/24/2007, 03:07 PMI'm pretty sure Sunteam is always looking for ways to improve his site.  your dilemma could be one of them
great!  i sent him an email via the address on that site.
thanks a ton.
#117
on the site, is there any consistent and simple way to understand which regions each of the games were released in?

i can't seem to find any logic that illustrates the point.

(of course, it's obvious when a game is released in japan as most of the screenshots show title screens with kanji - but it doesn't say if there was also a u.s. and/or pal release of the same game)

Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 07/23/2007, 10:03 PMI'd still like to pick up Adventure Island.
you can actually still score the ps2 rev of that game on the cheap (around 20 bones) from play-asia.  if you're quick...

word
up

i had an inclination that disc games would run on all regions of the hardware.  thanks a ton for assuring me of the facts.
and, thanks even more for the extending information.  it will definitely come in handy somewhere in the future.
#120
yeah, probably a stupid question - but, can u.s. duos play japanese disc games without any mod or extension?
#121
Quote from: Pcenginefx on 07/23/2007, 06:07 PMYes, that is the reason why I don't have a list of sorts on pcengine-fx.com.  www.pcecp.com and the PC Engine Software Bible are already excellent resources for stuff like that.
understood.
would it be worth linking to those on the pcengine-fx.com site?
#122
Quote from: GUTS on 07/23/2007, 06:35 PMDid you try emailing NCSX or Play Asia to see if they could maybe special order it or  something?
nope, but that's a great idea
gracias

Quote from: nat on 07/23/2007, 05:40 PMAaron, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the reason we don't see something like that here is because of the already-exhaustive list available at: www.pcecp.com
hey, what a rad site/list
thanks a ton for alerting me to it.

perhaps there could be a link or some direction to that site somewhere on pcengine-fx.com?

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 07/23/2007, 04:32 PMIt can't be that hard to find since it was released on GC, and PS2, and even re-printed for PS2.
hmmm, i wish it were that simple.  for years i've been hunting, and never have found a single copy for sale...

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 07/23/2007, 04:32 PMIts also not that great, so I can't imagine that many people would be be reluctant to trade it in.
really?  wow, i've heard nothing but how amazing it is.  you're the first negative comment i've ever heard about it.
#125
for a couple of years now, i've been trying hard to track down a copy of the hudson best vol. 3 pc-genjin (for ps2 or gamecube).  but, alas, to no avail.  i can't seem to find a copy a n y w h e r e...  not even on ebay...

insane?

have any of you ever managed to run across a purchasable copy of the game?  i'd love to own it.
#126
i'd love to see a global turbo/pc-engine (all iterations) games list on the site.

very similar to the wonderful one up on pcfxworld.  same format, same amount of info :)

would be very slick and very helpful in times of reference need.
#127
how about you drop in some nods to rondo of blood?  be fitting as the psp port (plus inclusion of the original on the disc - first u.s. localization ever!  sa-weeeeet!) is just on the horizon.
#128
wow, thanks for such quick responses here :)
from what's been said here, it doesn't sound as if the duo version of the game is nothing new or different from the iterations on other platforms (pc, snes, sega cd, and on, and on...).

thanks a ton.  helps a bunch :D
#129
i've never played the scd/duo version of simearth.
and, i cannot seem to find any impressions out there on the old interweb.

anybody have any thoughts on this rev of the game?  if so, i'd appreciate any words you could toss :)
#130
i'm going to have to say sega saturn for quality, and sega dreamcast for quantity.
#131
i'll gladly take monster lair off your hands if it is indeed the u.s. version.

please pm me for further dealing :D
#132
wonderful, many thanks.

and apologies about digging up the dead :(
guess my necromantic impulses have a mind of their own
#133
wait!

what's the url for this super-tastey-sounding pc-fx world site?
#134
very slick.  you're the first cat i've seen rocking console game ports with the gm toolset.

can't wait until you complete this project.
