So I took today to look after my step-dad so my mom could take some time for herself for the first time in well, a long time. While I say step-dad this is the man that raised me. My actual father is a douche and while I won't get into all of it the short of it is he gambled away the family business when I was 6.

My step-dad has Parkinson and due to that rarely knows who anyone is and also has dysphagia. So it has been rough for awhile now. Lately things got even worse so he has needed an oxygen tank as well. It's been a struggle and at this point it looks like a feeding tube and catheter are not far off.

So as I'm watching over him this morning he asks for help. I ask what with and in a rare moment of actually saying something discernible instead of indistinguishable noises he asks me to do something I can not do.

Talk about a punch right in the nads. I'm not going to do it, of course, but damn it just made everything hit me like a sack of bricks. I always knew deep down that he doesn't have long left but it just brought everything out. I wanted to scream and vomit at the same time. Instead I just cried a lot. I'll probably cry more throughout the day. To think of the personal hell he must be going through right now tears me up.

So why did I make this thread? I really don't know, I just needed to type this out I suppose.

During the cutscenes at the end of Ys IV I lost sound a bit into each of them. The sound started back up when the disc actually loaded something then when out again. So I'm suspecting that it's the burn as I haven't encountered this issue with any of my retail discs.

Anyway just curious to know if this is somewhat normal or if I should look in to getting it fixed.

I went to burn off Ys IV and I made a coaster. The game boots up, but I can't actually start a new game with it. I believe I need to apply the patch to a specific track or something like that? If someone could explain it to me like I'm 5 years old that would be helpful.

Got it cheap (thinking it worked) and parting out the other bits. Powers on. After cleaning the internals I got it to read games a couple times but definitely it desires a laser replacement. Or you could tweak the pots, or get a network adapter and play games from an HDD.

I can include a composite cable and power cord with it. If you want this and need these, lmk. Sorry, no controllers.

One last thing. This is probably more reasonable to closer someone is to me. If it's within just a couple postal zones, shipping SHOULD be under $10 given I just shipped a 6 or 7 pound package to Indiana for like $9 and change.

[Console Repair/Mod Center / General CD Unit Question]

So I was looking around at getting this extra Core Grafx I picked up recently into a set-up capable of playing CD games. I like the look of the Super CD-ROM² but it seems like every listing I see for one, something is wrong. No sound, low sound, longer than normal read times, sometimes doesn't read cds etc... So I ask people much more experienced than myself, is this pretty common? Is it just a total piece of garbage or can it be reliable with proper care?

Also I know many will suggest a Duo, but I'd rather not. I already have this Core Grafx so I'd rather just pair it with a CD unit and then I'll be gifting it. I'm not completely opposed to it, but selling the Core Grafx is extra work.

Probably not doing this for a few months yet. When I do though, I might also be looking for some cheaper hueys and cds (racing games mainly) to go with it.

If mods feel this is in the wrong section, let me know. I wasn't fully sure.

I'm really addicted to Dodonpachi Daioujou right now. It's a shame that some of the other Cave PS2 ports are not up to this standard. The game itself is friggin brutal, it's up there with Ketsui for me.

So I took apart a previously dead 360 and fixed it up. Working nicely now except...it makes a clicking noise when it is reading a disc. It does not appear to be doing any damage, but the sound is still annoying. To all the 360 experts that may or may not be reading: what would be causing this?

Played it, 1CC'd it with all characters, time to move on. Art is damaged on the left hand side. Basically, you can't read the name of the game on the spine. Fully aware this might be a deal breaker for some. Also, no obi or reg card.

Okay so probably a dumb question but here goes...

I am aware of the difference between the pack-in and the prior release. What I was wondering about is I have seen a variation on the duo pack-in version where sometimes the disc says MADE IN JAPAN and then on other copies it says MADE IN USA. I was wondering, are both legitimate?

I'm willing to try just about anything but my preference is for shmups and action/platform games. Cost is not an issue as I will burn CDROM games and just play them that way. Thinking about getting an everdrive but it seems like most of the insanely priced Japanese games are mostly CDs.

Hello all. Just bought a region switch modded Core Grafx and Interface Unit from Hong Kong today. I look forward to playing a bunch of great action games and shmups on this system.

Going to need a CD-ROM² eventually, but it seems like all the listings on Ebay are for broken ones. The main reason I joined actually is because a couple people pointed me towards this site as a good place to buy a repaired CD-ROM² eventually.
