Finally got the Energy to finish up* this English translation patch (for Energy). It also contains a few small gameplay changes, making it a lot less painful to play. Hopefully now some folks who were put off by it before (like me) can complete and perhaps even find some enjoyment from this infamous hucard game.

Patching instructions: Lunar IPS is an easy-to-use Windows tool to apply IPS patches to ROMs. If your ROM has a header (windows shows a file size of 257kb), use the header patch. If your ROM has no header (windows shows a file size of 256kb), use the raw patch. If you're having trouble patching just let me know and I'll try to help.

What was (perceptibly) done:
The game is fully playable in English. The text printing was hacked (to use 1 instead of 2 bytes per character) in order to make space for a larger English script. The text prints faster. You can now 'tap' the button to proceed at the end of a text box. The infuriatingly slow scrolling speed is now much quicker. The unskippable intro now plays only once--if you die or reset, it will skip the intro and start the game directly.

What was not done:
The doors are still slow to open. When I hacked them to open immediately, it also caused screens with respawning enemies to spawn them immediately. There must be a way to do it, but (imho) it's not worth all the extra trouble.

A big thanks to onionzoo for translating the script!

As always, feedback is appreciated.
Happy holidays, PCEFX~

Gameplay tips: (possible spoilers)

To use items: First, select an item on the menu and press button I to equip (it starts flashing blue), then cancel out of the menu with button II. Pressing buttons I and II at the same time will use the equipped item.

At the part with the three giant mutant heads, stand in front of one while it's close to the ground and hold up while jumping(?) to fly. I don't really understand this part...maybe someone else does--Punkic? Anyway, I just keep jumping like a madman while holding up and eventually am able to float off screen.

Shawnji and I have been working on an English translation for Valkyrie no Densetsu for a while now. I'm happy to be able to release it today :)

Great surprise release, Chris! The scaling road effect turned out really nicely. It's full of so many cool little details that it just oozes charm, like all your works generally do. I love that rotation effect on the CMC logo--going to have to steal that one someday ;)

Here's my high score: (72374)

Quite the fun little game so I'll give it more time later and hopefully improve

Here is an English patch I have been working on: SF2CE.ips

https://pce.cabbage.cx/translation.html
sf2ce_eng.png

I know Street Fighter II is not really a game that needed translating, but I was playing it a lot recently so it seemed like a fun one to start with.

The script is just taken from various youtube videos. There are probably a few strings I missed, so if you're playing and come across a blank screen or one that just shows a number, please let me know more details (which character, the number shown if there is one, etc)

It was really a chore to get everything to fit in the limited freespace available, so unfortunately I decided to just cut out much of the credits at the end of the game to make more room... I feel just awful about it, and I'm hesitant to even post the patch for this reason... but (most of) the credits are still in-tact for one of the two ending types. (Why doesn't that make me feel any better?)

So, it's not perfect, but I'm a bit sick of working on it for the time being. I would rather move on to something new. Maybe someone else is interested in trying to restore the credits or polish up the script a bit? PM if so, but I won't hold my breath..hehe

Feedback is welcome. Enjoy!

I use the utility in Emerald Dragon:
Hold UP when you press RUN on the CD BIOS screen. You can copy and swap full banks between the internal BRAM and the MB128 storage.
IMG -- not a pure screenshot... just an English guide

I haven't tried many of the MB128-compatible games. Surely there are several nice memory management utilities on other discs as well. The Memory Base is definitely a nice alternative to the Tennokoe Card--64 banks of storage are much better than 4, hehe!

HINT: It's not for the gameplay!
G&Ws are really only valuable to the Nintendo collectors. The gameplay is pretty OK on some of them but, for the most part, you could easily find an equivalent for much cheaper--sans Nintendo logos and characters of course.

Hell yes! I had one of those as a kid. Was never a big fan of LCD games back in the day, but that "Karate King" was great fun.

Island Adventure (Neo Compo 2012).pce

It's a little action-adventure game I made over the past few weeks for Neo Team's annual homebrew competition. It's pretty lacking in a lot of ways but there are a few weapons to find and a some little quests to do with a sort of hazy storyline sprinkled in sporadically. I made it as an exercise in programming to get more comfortable with the PC-Engine, and I don't really expect to continue working on it (though there's certainly room for improvement)

Anyway it's a 4 megabit ROM that works fine in mednafen and on my neo team flash cart and JP Duo-R. I think it should work fine on other carts and emulators too--please let me know me if you find compatibility issues. Since there's no save function, you might want to play on an emulator and use save states to avoid frustration, hehe.

If you play through the whole thing, please send me a PM and let me know what you thought, and how long it took you to finish!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can get some enjoyment out of it should you choose to play it.

edit: Essential Walkthrough (obviously containing spoilers)

Not sure why I love this pad so much (because it truly is CRAP)  but its was I grew up playing PC games with.  Star Control 2 was played many a times with one of these!
Hah, I just picked one of these up at a thrift store for $1... even has the screw-in joystick! I couldn't resist, even though I'll probably never use it. These things really do suck but they were the best (only?) PC gamepad I could find back in the day.

I've seen a lot of people expressing interest in the Hudson Shooting Watches recently, so today I wrote a little pc engine shooting watch demo.

It's very simple, just press RUN button to start the timer. Press I or II like hell until timer reaches zero. Repeat as desired.
It also saves your high-score to BRAM if it exists and has enough free space. I only have a Duo so I haven't tested it on a machine without BRAM; let me know if it crashes and I'll see about fixing it.

Enjoy~
