To everybody who is looking for a job and/or struggling in general: I know it is a battle; I wish you well. Seriously.

And now, a totally awkward transition to the light-hearted...

Specifically on energy management systems or do you hold tarded service peoples' hands through simple diagnostics because they can't read a wiring schematic for a piece of equipment?

I am a Digital Artist doing 3D modeling and animation.  Been doing 3d for a living since 1997.  Right now I am currently working on real games for training and simulation for the US Army.  It's actually a pretty cool job and one I will enjoy way more than working on AAA titles for 12 year old's.  I like what my work is going towards.

Actually both.

kosko99

I am at the purchasing/logistics department for an ophthalmic device company, I am also the connection between my S&R department and the main office in Netherlands when help is needed (request RMA, questions such as partnumbers, etc).

It's not a boring spot since everything is "urgent! ship now!".

I work at an aerospace forge shop that creates various parts that go on military helicopters and airplanes.

I don't envy your job.  I can think of one time I had to call a manufacturer's tech line (on a Mitsubishi Mini-Split) for a weird problem but I usually take pride in figuring out the problem on my own.  I will say that, at least in my area, I run into some major dummy service techs at the local supply houses.  I wonder how some of these guys even hold a job in this industry.

I wonder the same thing also, I had a few guys ask where the disconnect was located, and what a freezestat was. And I have to deal with this everyday

I sat with our video editor a few weeks ago to get an idea of what he does. It was of a shoot we did a week before. It was an interesting vid, so it wasn't too bad. But he was telling me about some of the other stuff he generally does. Sounded super boring.
But then he does not do a kick ass youtube video game show. So at least you have that going for you!

Depending on how fast the fans are going, it could instantly start to dry it up though.

Besides that, the simulation industry is huge for the military.  It's every 3rd party contract companies bread and butter working on Gov contracts. So many companies in the US do simulation now.  It's fairly easy to find jobs with them wanting Artists using Unity, Unreal, hell even Cryengine for Serious Games.

Gredler

Awesome, Unreal and Cry I am familiar with for personal work, and I've worked a lot with Unity at my last job where we used it to ship a big budget IOS game for Zynga. Thanks for the info, the investigation begins!

I do primarily data-warehouse development - tons of SQL, SSIS and C# code. With the occasional foray into Tableau/SSRS/whatever-flavor-of-the-month-reporting-tool-client-wants.

In a past life I was a front-end web developer full-time, but with each passing year I'm losing interest in it and don't miss it terribly.

I don't think this job will last another couple months, so I'm on the hunt. Evo or whoever was looking forward to taking advantage of people in a shitty situation, stand by.

As mentioned before I work for a Defense Contractor as a Financial Analyst down in Virginia.  We help support the on going operations in Afghanistan and Iraq in terms of men, logistics, technology, communications.  I simply handle the Government contracts financially and source outside contractors.  It's as boring as it sounds.
