Popils is actually a great game. Very addicting with a level builder that was lots of fun. Most of these games were far along, I believe Popils hadn't gotten the level creator and some other minor things.

Looks very nice, is that close to how the real deal will look?

Similar, except that it will have a full color manual. This is just a fold out with inserts and the disc is a paint coated cdr. The CD duplication will have a silk-screened, pressed disc much like any retail disc. My shitty camera don't do this packaged version justice though. >.<

So I had this packaged copy of the demo made by some guy I know who makes repros, this one's going out to chany since he's gonna have HE on display for Turbofest. It's the only one so far, but I wanted to show off its contents before it goes out to chanus.

Progress has been good and so far we haven't reached any hurdles. I am trying to find ways to speed things up but even if we keep up at this pace, we should meet our self proposed deadline of March. We are working on the next stage of the game at the moment. As some of you may know, every stage in HE is based on a parody-version of a game that will appear in the HE comic. The next stage in development is a Castlevania themed stage after the parody-themed game in HE, Castlevampire-Z ;)

Everything is still being tweaked, really. We can call it "mostly done", but I do want to go back in and redo stage 2's progression at some point. The only stage that is pretty much set in stone for now is stage 1... and even then, it's only carved in talc. All stages from 3 on are designed in terms of progression but some changes may be made here and there. I don't want to do too many overhauls, but I've improved my coding skill considerably since starting this project so some changes have already been made to reflect that. I never intended on emulating the Euro shooter style... I just like making games challenging.

Oddly enough, the only things I ever drunk buy are thing that I've been putting off.

Example- I had needed a couple new charging cables & an aux cable for my phone.
I was out at the bar waiting for my friends to come back inside and boom, ordered.

I do something similar to this, except it's more of a mental list of games that I say I am not going to buy due to price... then go into 'fuck it' mode and buy them when under the influence of stuff.

Some random comments about the game...

First, even relatively common enemies seem to take an awful lot of hits to drop, which is more of a Euro shooter design. I find it interesting that you've gone that route. Definitely will make this a hard as nails game to 1 cc.

Second, on the one hand it's kind of cool to see the enemies drop off the screen, but it does make things a little busy at times and contributes to screen clutter. Does that drop-off-in-death thing have anything to do with my first observation? It would end up like an enemy rainstorm (with corresponding visibility issues) if they dropped too easily.

Are you largely focused on level design and enemy programming at this point or are the basic player and shot mechanics still being tweaked?

Do what I do, single out one single console, grab between 5~10 games for said console and force yourself to give an honest go with whatever you picked out.  Spend MORE time playing than you did picking out the games.  Then set up a camera and a capture device recording your gameplay for youtube.  Perhaps play each game for as long as you can on only one life and call these videos "Till I Die".

Gain millions of subscribers and retire a professional gamer.

I bought Vasteel from Gynt for a very reasonable price last year (I think).  He messaged me afterward and said that he was including a Sparky Reproduction map but didn't want it to affect the sale so he was just throwing it in after I paid him.  I thought that was a highly respectable thing to do and Gynt is an upstanding person for it.
