Quote from: stevek666 on 02/22/2007, 11:04 AMHey Rolins... how would you compare the pce vs fm towns vs etc. versions of image fight? I'm casually familiar with the game, but I've spent nearly 100% of my time with the pce version.

Quote from: Seldane on 02/22/2007, 10:46 AMRolins knows where its at.
Absolutely. :)
I can't make a comparison just yet, maybe later. I'd have to go back to the playing the pce version, since its been a while and I don't remember how it measures up to the original.

I wasn't going to share this to anyone until I finished making videos of the whole game, but since you guys are curious I might as well. I've posted Stage 1-5 of the fm-towns version at Vimeo a few weeks back. The quality is better than youtube. They still transcode your video to flv but at a higher bitrate. This should give a better idea what the fm-towns version looks like.

Damn, that stage 3 music ROCKS.  Is ImageFight made by Irem?  I thought I heard some R-Type sounding stuff on stage 4s music.

Currently playing Far Cry (PC). Been a long time since. Awesome game, too bad ALL the console ports/sequels are jokes... especially the recent Wii game.

Starting playing Oblivion again.  I really hated it for the longest time since Morrowind was way better, but since there's no other good western RPGs out right now and I'm fucking sick of Jap RPGs for a while I figured I'd try it again.  Its actually really fun once I quit comparing it to Morrowind, hopefully I won't get sick of it before Bullet Witch comes out since that's the next game I want.

PCE Double Dragon II.  I got it months ago, and beat it on normal setting, and I just stored in away.  Couldn't get any sleep, so I played in hard and beat it.  Man, is the last boss cheap.  The "best" ending is a motive to actually play it on hard.

Not the best, but a solid beat-em-up for the Duo.  I can't think of any other good beat-em-ups on the duo other than Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari (River City Ransom).

In fact, other than Riot Zone - which I'm not impressed with - I don't even know any other beat-em-ups for the PCE/TG.

That crappy one with the women gangs and 50ies pop rock junk soundtrack. I think it was called Ane-San.
Yea I think the Genesis/Megadrive ruled these types of games. I dont think it was lack of power that kept alot more being produced for Pc Engine either. With the Arcade Card they could have made alot of them,or made them on Hu-Cards in large meg size.

I think the only other real beat'em up I like that you didn't mention for Pc-Engine is Vigilante. I did like Double Dragon 2 for Pc-Engine,but I like the arcade game more and in the process enjoy playing the Mega Drive port more. People dump on Riot Zone alot, but I always liked it,and still do. It had the average amount of moves for a beat'em up,and it was fun to play to me,and the graphics were slightly above average considering the sprite size.

People always knock the lack of amount of moves, because Streets of Rage 2 has a ton,but they forget most other games in this genre like TMNT had only the simple button attack combo,a trow, special attack, and a jump attack. Not much more. I don't feel it broke any  molds in the genre but I still enjoyed it like other titles like Rival Turf. Not the best, but not the worst. The worst are titles like Ninja Clowns by IT,Battletoads/DoubleDragon,garbage like that.

LOL yea I heard people say alot of shit about him and make fun of him on youtube. The Genesis/Megadrive is far from perfect. Its a good port, but easily could have benefited from extra ram for more details. The Supergrafx version has more details in its stages, but its not perfect either. As far as the Sega port goes, its still pretty good, and its fun to play which is what counts. I am happy with its port.

Went through a quick run of Samurai Shodown IV on the Saturn.  There's something about slashing your opponent and seeing a splash of blood shoot out.  No other 2D fighter quite had that right like the SS series.

I'm annoyed that my original Sega 4M RAM cart doesn't work well with this game - it loads, but the sprites for the 2P characters gets all messed up.  It's with the 1M cart.  Anyone else have this game and have this problem?

KOF 97 will work with the 4 meg cart, but it has a longer load time initially with it if I remember right, which was kinda annoying. Really its best to use the 1 meg cart on all the SNK titles  I cant remember if the Real Bouts have problems or not,and I was thinking Metal Slug only liked the 1 meg cart, could be wrong on that though,as its been years since I messed with the Saturn ports.

My son got some Spongebob game for Wii, It actually controls well, and it seemed kinda fun, just not my type of game. So basically he has been playing that, and I am still playing Bad Day LA.

Real Bout Special will work fine with the 4MB cart, it even says right on the cover that it supports it.

As for Cotton 2, the Shin Force site says that it uses an optional 2MB mode, so I checked out the cover scan from here.

IMG

And it says right there in the green/blue box that it supports it.  It's a little bit blurry and my Japanese isn't good enough to completely guess at all the Kanji, but it does seem to say that you can play without it, but if you do something about *voices* (the middle row sentence).

So some voices come out that you normally wouldn't hear?  I dunno.  If any Japanese speakers can make out the Kanjis, what the hell does it say?

Welp, nevermind... what I wrote above... Seems like digi.k verified what I said (before I hit the post button).

Oh, and I'm not sure about the whole "2MB" mode for Cotton 2.  I'd bet that the voices would work fine with the 1MB cart, since the above cover only mentioned the regular RAM expansion cart (meaning 1MB cart).  But I don't have the game, so that's only an assumption.

Digi.k

I've only tested Cotton 2 with Capcom's 4MB ram cart so I can't say if its compatible with anything else...

Well when you boot up cotton 2 for the first time you get these 2 screens I think they basically to tell you if you dont have enough ram to save your game etc...

/Image0226-2130CVBS.jpg

This one tells you about the external memory save cart.
/Image0226-2130CVBS1.jpg

And finally on the title screen it will tell you that its detected the memory expansion

Back when I had Real Bout Special,I had the Real Bout Collection that had both Special and normal Real Bout. I just don't remember if both games work fine with the 4 meg cart. Same with KOF 96. I remember Samurai Spirits 3 working ok with 4 Meg cart...

KOF 95  had its own ram cart, and Fighters History Dynamite too I think. Marvel Super Heroes used the 4 Meg for sure, and I think could use the 1 meg cart also. Even the USA release worked with the 4 meg cart. Galaxy Fight didn't need it,but I think for a good experience Waku Waku 7 and Astra Superstars did need  a ram cart. Pocket Fighter was improved with the ram carts too I think. Ultraman had its own ram cart it needed, but man that game sucked badly. Fatal Fury 3 did not use one,and neither did World heroes perfect. Then you have the other Capcom releases that used the 4 meg cart, and a couple others I think.

Just been way too long since I had any of those SNK ports and messed with them. I am just more inclined to own the Neo carts these days.

Just recently modified my favorite msx joystick the XE-1PRO using the Atari retrokit. Opted to modify it b/c it's DB9 cable got mangled, and rather than repair it I decided to install a usb cable instead. Installing the retrokit was absolutely painless. About 13 solder points is all it takes, and results are worth it. The joystick is responsive and buttons are sensitive, just how I remembered it. Got into playing some shmups through BlueMSX and Mame. Works especially well with all the maniac shooters from Cave.

I'm thinking of ordering the saturn retrokit. I got few spare saturn pads lying around, and I need the best gamepad for playing SNK and Capcom fighting games on mame.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 03/16/2007, 07:37 PMI am about to play some Master System games that arrived in the mail today.  Who here is jealous of me?
I'm jealous only because I won't have time to play any Master System games over the next few days.

I did pick up my second Gam*Boy earlier this week, this time with working fm sound, and my first batch of Korean pirate(?) Mark III games. The best part is that it came with two good condition Gam*Boy pads, which I didn't have before.

Pretty much my weekly dose of gaming consisted of testing out those knock off carts, mainly Ghost House.
