If the traces for the caps in that area are good then usually the cuplrit for only one side of the sound working is a bad headphone jack. I've seen a lot of them damaged from people accidentally burning into the headphone jack with the soldering iron when trying to install new caps. Usually wrecks the internal connections in the headphone jack.

original pic was down so here it is again.

I don't always play golf games but when I do I play Winning Shot.
#258
Okay so far here is who I have down for bank cards.

esteban 2
turboswimbz 1
Johnpv 1

I still have more cards left but not positive if I have manuals for all of them. Will update soon.
#259
Never mind, this was my mistake. I must have been using the 1.4 version and not 1.41 because all is good now. Fantastic program by the way!
#260
Could be that the lens gear is slipping. Some DUO Rs have the gear that is actually two parts. Sometimes the parts can slightly separate. To check this try playing your game with the case lid off. You will need a magnet to hold the CD lens in place when doing so. You can remove the one out of the DUO-R lid for this. Check to see if the lens motor keeps moving at all after the CD lens has stopped in various places. The way to fix this is to glue the two parts together.

Okay, I have 3 more left but I don't have any more manuals to go with them. So this would be for the loose hu card only. $5 each shipped in the U.S.
#263
I also own an original Dungeon master that is unknown to turborip. Does this matter? Can I just enter in my own name?

Quote from: MobiusStripTech on 09/29/2017, 02:36 PMHonestly even if it was recapped, open it. I have had to repair previous recap jobs because the person who did the recap either used garbage caps or didn't clean everything.
I 2nd that. I've had to redo many cap changes done by previous people. Usually things not cleaned up well at all and typically I find a few caps with leads that are bridging over other traces on the board. Sometimes I find some cap leads are not even soldered into place.
#265
Haha okay, was just curious.
#266
Are you selling off your entire collection?
#267
Some CD-rs can be harder for a lens to read. I would try to stay away from light scribe discs for sure.

In my personal experience I find that Sony CD-Rs are the best but I'm sure everyone else has their favorite brand to use. Normal CD-R memorex and Verbatim are some of the cheaper(crappier brands) but most drives should still read them okay. However the inkjet printable verbatim discs are very high quality.

The cost and rarity of some of these games easily outweighs the risk of lens damage.

Pretty much anything for the tg16/pc engine on ebay is gouging now days. Especially with Buyitnow. The only time one might find a good deal is if the listing is an auction started low. The only downfall with this is lots of time the auction will get up the the amount of the other gouging buyitnow sales because everyone starts to think that is the going rate for said game since that is all that is available. It's kind of crazy but in the last 2 months alone I've seen sellers raise the price of a game they sell by almost $10 every weak and I think they get away with it too because of the supply and demand. It artificially raises the going rate of said game when the supply is not there.

Pretty soon, the only way for anyone new getting into the system to be able to play any games will be to get a Turboeverdrive and a stack of CD-Rs. It's just sad because I really like helping others get into playing these systems and the lack of games on the market just can't match the interest being shown for it now.

There are some exceptions to the U.S. Game gouging because the market pretty much takes care of that itself. No one is going to pay more than say around $20 tops for keith courage, final lap twin, World Class Baseball, JJ and jeff, galaga 90, power golf, Aliens Crush, sonic spike, moto roader, Vigilante, Pac-land, Victory Run, Dragon Spirit, dungeon explorer, tricky kick, Side Arms, TV sports games... Basically the most common of the Turbo Hu card library.
#269
Yeah, $100 is a fair price for this game now. I've seen a few go around $125 on ebay in the past month.
#270
omg! the intro is so insanely early 90s. The tude is so over the top that one might think it's a parody of other promo videos.
#271
This is fantastic! I was just going through some of my cheapy cheap hueys the other day and thought, Doesn't this game have a translation? I must have esp.

Thanks for the hard work!

hmmm the slow server seems to be down right now. Will try again later.
#272
I'm thinking as well that some games being sold only through TZD may not be true. I remember buying Shape Shifter and Riot Zone brand new at a mom and pop game store localish to where I lived back in the day. Makes me wonder if maybe just maybe that dynastic hero could have been sold somewhere else as to why it has a hang tab on it.
#273
Just watched your video. Nice info on the machine.

I happen to have one of those odd ball white PC Engine CD drives that only says CD-Rom on the top with no "2" after it in my possession. I don't have any of the hardware you had it pictured with. Just the CD drive only. It looks so weird.
#274
yeah, the Spriggan MkII translation would be excellent to play.

I'm still anxiously awaiting the Cosmic fantasy 1 and Might and Magic 1 translations. However, I know these projects have to be super time consuming so completely understandable that they are not completed yet.
#275
Good to know. thanks.
#276
So there isn't a bios patch for the V1 everdrive available for it to make it okay to leave it inserted? It would be a bummer to remove one all the time since everdrives are known for eventually bending hu slot pins from too much removal and insertion over time.
#277
Sorry to hijack a thread but is a special super system card bios needed for using an everdrive v1 in a DUO? Meaning can it be left in the system to run the super system card without any issues or does it have to be removed everytime to avoid damage?
#278
Hmm wonder if the newer version also brings 2 player back into the mix since thew 1st CD version did not have this?
#279
what does the noise sound like? Is it a whining sound or a clicking sound? whining is made typically by the lens. this only happens when the disc is spinning.
#280
These are all great examples. Didn't realize all these little things existed.
#281
if it is noisy you can fix that with potentiometer adjustments Turn the V104 potentiometer clockwise ever-so-slightly.

yes, you just pry the center spindle off the top. To put it back on you just push it back into place but it can be a very big pain trying to get the height correct. Most likely you will end up having to reinstall it over and over again until you get the height at the right spot. usually only good to remove this if your motor is actually bad or you need to replace the spindle top itself because it's bent.

in your case I would leave it alone and make a small adjustment instead. also, what kinds of discs are you using? CDR discs can make the lens sound much louder.
#282
are you sure the motor is bad? I have come across a couple bad ones but they are rarely ever bad so keep that in mind. The symptom is that they spin very very slowly.  so if yours is not spinning at all then something else could be the problem.

best way to remove the top plastic part is to use a small pair of pliers from underneath the spindle and pry upwards by pushing down on the pliers so the tip of the pliers move up. try keeping the end of the pliers just under the center for that spindle because if you get anywhere near the outsides of it you can bend it which makes it a pain to then bend back into shape so CDs do not move all wobbly when they spin.

Looks like someone had some fun showing off their collection in that one :)
#284
Nice! That would make a great signature.
#285
I have never tried this myself but TheSteve has said that he uses left over capacitor leads for gear clips if needed.
#286
I noticed recently that the game Power Eleven has a great intro featuring a HU card and the pc engine itself.
I was wondering if anyone else knows if there are any other games that show off a pc engine in the main intro. Well besides Star Parodier and wrong CD system card screens.
#287
Just wait for Black Friday at the end of November. Krikzz website usually has a big sale every year. http://krikzz.com/store/home/35-turbo-everdrive-v24.html
#288
Yeah I've tried that. Some bleach and rubbing alcohol but some minimal yellow spots still remain on 2 of my manuals.  I'll either keep them in plastic sleeves to keep them from contaminating the rest or just chuck them .
#289
Well, after doing even more investigation it appears that the majority of any spots I have found are near the staples on the inside of the manuals. Almost like the staples are reacting to something and then leaving spots behind. None of the other pages of any manual I own have any spots on them. Maybe I should remove all the staples? Hydrogen peroxide and UV light works great at removing any of the staining on these pages but leaves these parts looking a little rippled after drying.

Also, some of you might want to start looking at the inside page where the staples come through on your manuals. I've received a few manuals in the mail in the past week that have minor spotting in this area prior to myself owning them. So this could be starting to become a common occurrence.
#290
There still has to be bad traces or shorted vias somewhere in that area. Check the voltages coming from the 4558 op amp that sits underneath those two caps I told you about. Then also check all the via holes in that area to make sure the traces to each via has the same voltage as the via hole itself.

Just to recap you are only having low audio on CD games correct? Hu card volume is absolutely fine?

If all volume is low including hu cards you should be looking for shorts around or near the 4558 op amp right by the AV jack.
#292
hah, no need for me to measure it. I just looked over the map again and found a place where it says that is it a repro. Never noticed it before because it's so small. The exact wording is "Not Official. This is only a copy 2010"
#293
thank you for reminding me that it should feel more like cardboard. After you mentioned that I remember what it was like having my original when I was a kid.

this one that I have on hand is definitely a Repro since it feels a little more like paper than cardboard. This doesn't bother me at all because I didn't pay extra for it or anything. it's just good to know so that way if I do decide to sell this game in the future I can inform the buyer that the map is a Repro.
#294
Hey, I was wondering if any knew if there were any repros made of this map and or how to tell if you have an original one or not.

I have the original game with manual and a map but the map almost looks to be in too good of condition. The paper doesn't feel super glossy like photo paper or anything like that and it does have some fraying.
#295
Big tutorial found here. https://web.archive.org/web/20160308114731/http://www.otakus-store.net:80/fr/content/6-guide-nec-

If using the pure c-sync signal from the hu6260 chip you must add a 220uf cap or larger to the signal either from inside the system or in the scart cable itself.

Also, the jail bar fix in that tutorial is out of date and everyone uses this one now. http://etim.net.au/av-driver/pcebars/

Tg16manaic has a few of these for sale in his sales thread here. https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=21273.0 just recently got some stuff from him and I was happy with it.
#297
It does? I swore I had a few in the past that didn't get warm when the fuse was blown. I haven't had to fix an original ac adapter in a while so maybe I'm wrong about that then. My mistake.
#298
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 08/22/2017, 02:12 AMI was referring to the fuse inside the Duo. I thought I remembered black Duos having them.
You are correct. They do have fuses in them. Sorry I sounded confusing. I'm just saying he should check the AC adapter first since that's easiest to check without a multi meter and then move on from there.
#299
This might sound silly but if you don't have a multi meter to test if your power supply works, you can test it by leaving it plugged into the wall for maybe 25 minutes or so and feel if it gets hot or not. If it's an original power supply it should get pretty warm. If it doesn't heat up then the AC adapter fuse is blown and will need to be replaced or get another power adapter.
#300
Could be a number of things but yes there is the rare chance that the fuse in the power supply blew. I've repaired quite a few original power supplies by just replacing the blown fuse. I'd check that first.

If you don't have the modders email, do you maybe remember what state you mailed it to to get worked on before? If you know, we might be able to narrow it down. Could be myself or someone else from the forum here.
