10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Good idea! Fixed 8)

I've been encasing the game in bubble wrap and then shoving it inside a padded USPS envelope. Feels much better, it doesn't move around and has lots of protective cushioning -- the package looks like a pillow!

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 09/07/2012, 07:55 PMAs I posted in the other thread about recent purchases, my copy came yesterday.  The front part of the case had the hinge broken off.  The back part of the case had a large crack.  The inside black plastic CD holder had several tabs broken off, but was still holding the disc firmly in place (unlike EU Dreamcast cases where the disc flops around the second any of the tabs come off).  The disc itself was fine.  I just swapped it out with one of the many spare CD cases I have on hand.  Obviously the damage happened during shipping.  But the disc was fine so I didn't get worked up about it.
Yikes! Sorry to hear about the shipping, thankfully I'm all out of those loose poly bubble mailers. In any event you do want a new original case, I'll gladly send you one free of charge. The hinges seem to be particularly vulnerable, that's where I've noticed the most broken pieces of plastic from the bulk that was shipped to me. One case had a hinge that was jammed and wouldn't even open.

The only thing I'm not satisfied about MSR's packaging is the jewel case. From first glance they look like a real Turbo game, but there's definitely a quality loss in the cases Nationwide Disc uses. They feel thinner and cheaper, even more prone to breaking than the thicker ones used back in the 80's and 90's. I plan on swapping the inserts from my own personal copy into a better case. It's not a huge deal, just a little nitpick I have.

As far as Storino, I can understand wanting to have a sealed copy; it would feel great to tear open a fresh, new Turbo game like the old days. But as everyone's said, it's not worth the extra production cost to have eBay scammers to spike the cost of our game and rig the market, as they're so eager to do!
#155
I'll be picking up some of the free boxes at the post office too. They don't carry the padded envelopes there anyways.
#156
I bought some bubble wrap yesterday that I've been using. I think the new bubble mailers I bought should do just fine by themselves, the other envelopes I was using had too much extra space in them; I originally planned on using them for the pre-orders so there was enough room to hold the game + DVD case.
#157
Quote from: PikachuWarrior on 09/05/2012, 11:44 PMWhy didn't the copies come sealed? That was why I ordered it in the first place. There's also a huge crack on the front case. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone is out to resell in the future, but it would have been a nice gesture if it was 'sealed'. Would have ordered two copies.
There's a huge crack on your copy? PM me your address and I'll send you a new one ASAP. I've been examining all the copies before shipping them to make sure they're in pristine condition, your copy must've received damage during shipping. I've switched to smaller, more padded envelopes now too to ensure safety.

Glad to hear it arrived safely and to your liking! :D

I think Runin beat this game and had good things to say about it. Check the Brothers Duomazov site.

Quote from: guest on 09/02/2012, 08:59 PMI've put a few hours into it over the past couple of days and have been having a blast!  Started climbing Darm, er, Tower of the Gods earlier this evening.  REALLY great work, guys!  I'm so glad you toughed it out and got this released. :D
Feels great hearing other people's enthusiasm for our product, thank you! And believe me, the game only gets better too ;) .

Also, did you like your signed instruction manual? :D
#164
Quote from: motdelbourt on 09/02/2012, 03:17 AMMy game arrived today, after ordering it only like 2-3 days ago. I haven't popped it in yet, but I'm impressed by the quality of the packaging and the look of the disc. Everything is spot-on. The manual is in color so the packaging is arguably superior to previous US Super CD games.
Glad you like it! Thanks for posting!

Quote from: esteban on 09/02/2012, 04:53 PMBACK ON TOPIC: I know this sounds silly, but the one thing I look forward to the most is... listening to the Mysterious Song soundtrack. I'm only going to be able to play MSR: The Game in bits and pieces. But I'll be able to listen to the soundtrack immediately and continuously. :pcgs:
I conceived an idea of making the bonus soundtrack CD+G compatible so you can actually pop it in your Turbo to watch scrolling visuals as an extra. We've been working with TheOldMan on getting this to work, but unfortunately we just didn't have the time to implement it for the release. Oh well, we're hoping it will work for Jungle Bros soundtrack.

Quote from: PCEngineHell on 09/01/2012, 07:22 PMYou know, and not Hispanic food related, but one thing that seems to be hard to get in some areas is pickled okra. I've sent a few jars off and on to Sini since they don't seem to be available in his area. I can buy the stuff all day long but evidently its just not carried everywhere.
Pickled okra is the shit! I could eat a dozen jars if I felt like it.

Over 50 orders have been shipped so far. I'm waiting on supplies to come from USPS.com, so in the mean time I'll still be sending foreign addresses the old fashioned way.

My verdict: Michael Jackson is the shit; always has been, always will be. If you don't like him, go play some Lords of Thunder.

Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 09/01/2012, 03:06 AMHuh, I thought Keranu was sending out the delivery confirmation numbers to people.  Atleast, that's what it sounded like :-k

As for length, the regular game is the same except I believe there is an extra area added, then there's an EX game with new story & alternate ending, & perhaps there's more :D
Tracking confirm is emailed to the buyer's Pay Pal account automatically when I print the labels. I had a default order confirmation email I would send out when ordering was made to my Pay Pal account.

If it makes ya feel better Joe, your order has been confirmed and is in my order log :P . Will be getting around to the most recent orders after Labor Day, I still have some foreign addy's I will be taking care of today.

Yes you should get a email sent to your Pay Pal address with the tracking number. Unless you're outside of US, since I can't print labels for those orders online yet.

I have the first batch of post-100 orders within the US shipped out. I apologize to anyone that has to wait longer for theirs to get out, I'll be spending my free time this week shipping out as many orders I can. It's going to take me a little longer to send out the foreign orders since I can't print out labels for those online at the moment.

Possibly the best news yet... replication has already begun and a estimated finishing date has been set! Even better, it's sooner than I expected!

"I have received your approval, and your project will now begin production.

Your job is scheduled to finish production at the end of the day on Aug. 21st.  This estimated date is based on your master disc(s) passing integrity testing and copyright checks. Any delay in these areas will result in a delay of the completion of your project. Should your job finish prior to this date we will ship it."

It should take about 2 days for shipping. So if everything continues to go smoothly, we could see an official relate date as soon as this Thursday. However we still to wait for a couple materials for the pre-order bonuses to arrive, so that might cause some extra delay. I'll start filling out everyone's names and addresses on envelopes so I can begin shipping copies out as soon as the game arrives.
#194
I emailed Nationwide earlier this week (Monday or Tuesday) asking if replication has started since they never emailed me back after I sent approval for it. It's Friday and still no word from them at all, lets hope they've been working on this and not stalling.

I was going to call them the yesterday, but didn't have the time after work. I'm out of town right now, I'll give them a call Monday if I still haven't received an email.

Quote from: guest on 08/17/2012, 12:11 AMGuys, the posts are slowing down too much. We need to pump this thread to 100 pages of posts by the time this game actually gets into folks hands! We have to feed the saga!

General Gaming / Re: Opoona
08/16/2012, 06:29 PM
I beat this game some years ago. For the most part, I like it. It takes a very different approach from most RPGs by focusing on "community" aspects, but the RPG elements themselves are rather bland. Still, it has a very cool space setting and soothing Dreamcast-esque music accompanied by simple, cheery visuals. I have a feeling this game is going to be the next "Earthbound" to collectors in a few years, in part due to the zonky dialogue.

Here's a full review I wrote: http://web.archive.org/web/20100129152707/http://www.lazerdorks.org/hardcoregaming/opoona/index.html

Tetris (Philips CD-i)

This one: https://youtu.be/KoCFToFstSY

The music and relaxing backgrounds try and sooth and relax you while the dreadful controls and natural challenge of Tetris keep you worked up.  Its a nice clash of feelings.
Holy shit this looks amazing! I looooove the atmosphere! There's never been such a spiritual uplifting incarnation of Tetris lol.
