I agree that ferengi should not have become a constant character - but I like them in TNG, and think they're a cool idea for a race of aliens.

The vulcan in Voyager makes me want to keep watching. I like the vulcans. Tuvok!!

SignOfZeta

Vulcans are the biz. TNG is my jam forever but Spock is the coolest ST dude of all for all time. Both the character and his actor, a real mensch, Newtype, humanist, and cosmo-future-socialist. A cool as they come.

There has to be something said about Voyager really getting out into space and exploring, that's pretty cool compared to the localized focus of DS9. They're constantly going to random places trying to get home on this show.

Quote from: technozombie on 05/01/2017, 08:36 AMI grew up watching TNG and watched the first season or two of DS9 as it aired. Growing up,TNG was definitely my favorite show that wasn't a cartoon. I also watched Enterprise and liked it at first, until they went on a single story tangent that I didn't find interesting.  Also, I hate Scott Bakula, always have always will. Reading this thread makes me want to go back and re-watch them all.
I grew up watching TNG too, it was like one of the few things my father and I would bond over watching so I still enjoy it.  When the series ended I felt like this huge part of my life was ending as well.

Well I wrapped up Babylon 5 and the movies. I started watching the Crusades season but I"m having a hard time pushing through. I'm not sure how quickly I will get through. Also there seems to be another movie after that season I hope it wraps it up and not start something that will not be finished.

Yep, it's not great, is it! Not actually horrible ... but just a bit "bleh".

And usually show out-of-story-order, and in the butchered broadcast-order, which really doesn't help.

I liked Galen, but the whole thing didn't ever seem to quite gel together.

And "nope", it doesn't have an ending as such, it got cancelled part way through the 1st season.

Are you thinking of the "Legend of the Rangers" movie, that was really a (failed) attempt to spin-off another series?

Coming out in the same year as Joss Whedon's absolutely-excellent "Firefly", it almost seemed like a cut-rate knockoff.

Nope, it's got nothing to do with anything, and was (IMHO) worse than Crusade.

The only other B5 thing worth watching is the Lost Tales movie/anthology.

It's a very low-budget direct-to-DVD movie, but was actually written really well (IMHO) and truly feels like something out of the original show, just without the budget.

If you're not enjoying Crusade, you might as well bail out, it doesn't get any better.

Just try to find the Lost Tales, and then watch Firefly (followed by the Serenity movie) if you haven't already seen them!

BTW ... so now that you finished the main B5 series, what did you think of it?

<edit>

OK, yep ... I decided to watch Lost Tales again, and still loved it!

Gypsy

Wow, I didn't even know that Crusade show existed. The more you know.

This reminds me I really should watch all of Babylon 5 some time.

I really enjoyed Babylon 5. Each season was a new turn in the story and they really provide a nice close and rewards the viewer with all the callbacks.

I have seen Firefly a few times and Serenity. I really enjoyed that one.

I guess I will watch more crusades to see if they wrap up the issue created in the last movie. then watch that last movie.

Or as Arkhan would say, "retarded".

I've had a very hard time watching it. The voices of the characters (aside from Tuvok and the Doctor) are grating, so having it on in the background at work is less enjoyable than prior shows. I am not sure I'll get through it, I really want to try - there's 7 friggin seasons it has to be that long running for a reason - but man it's difficult. I grew to enjoy DS9, and had a similar but much less difficult time getting through it. I don't want to have that "what if" feeling about voyager - but BSG is more and more siren songing me towards it.

Jeri Ryan's breasts in a tight outfit.

That's pretty-much the only thing that kept it alive for so long ... male fantasies.

A trick so blatant, and yet so successful, that they 100% duplicated it in Enterprise with Jolene Blalock's breasts.

Honestly, if you're still suffering through Voyager, you should give Enterprise a try.

It's much, much better than Voyager, and some of the characters are semi-interesting, and then you can get annoyed by the doctor instead ("yes", they pretty-much just rotated the same characters into different jobs).

But it has almost-as-bad story writing, and goes for the whole time-travelling-baddies to provide its main story arc for multiple seasons ... and I find that incredibly lazy.

Blalock Calls 'Enterprise' Finale Appalling

As she says ... "We started out with 13 million viewers on the pilot, and we somehow managed to drive 11 million of them away."

I've still yet to use anything VR, but that has looked very intriguing and makes me wish I had setup capable of playing it. That and RE7, the only two pieces of software that encourage me to get a VR setup.

Jerri Ryan is not on Voyager where I am at in this season - but it encourages me to stick with it knowing something makes the show better. At this point I am almost curious WTF how this show existed and knowing she is the reason makes me even more ponderous.

I started Enterprise, watched a few episodes when I was debating between it, voyager, and DS9. I liked the opening few episodes better than any of those three, so I saved it for last. I thought I'd go with the more palatable of the two inferior (imo from the first few episodes) first, sandwiching the worst of the three between them.

My fiance keeps saying I don't actually watch this show, and wonders why I have it on.  I tell her it makes walking around the house doing chores, plodding through menial tasks, a bit more entertaining. The show's are superficial enough that I can skip large chunks and still follow, or just don't care. This was not the case with TNG - I ended up restarting/rewinding the episodes often, like reading without comprehension and re-reading sentences/paragraphs.

I'm trying to figure out what next after Babylon 5. I haven't seen Stargate tv show or Farscape or Enterprise. After that great recommendation of Babylon5 what next. I have seen all the other Star Trek and BattleStar and Buck Rodgers as well as Space 1999 and V.

Watch both of these. I'd watch Stargate before Farscape but that's just like, my opinion maaaan.

wilykat

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are pretty good. SG:Universe was kind of a flop but they did finally explain why the Stargate ring in the original movie poster had 9 chevrons.

7 Chevrons are like the local phone number you can use, it's limited to within the galaxy.
8th Chevron is like the area code for different galaxy. O'Neil helped figure this when he had a brain overload and met with Asgard race.
And finally in Universe, 9 chevron code is like a mobile number, it goes to a specific ring and not to a star system so it was possible to go from ship to ship. and planet to ship. However the range is limited without extra power that nearly wiped out the whole team in the pilot episode.

NecroPhile

SG-1 is great, Atlantis is okay, and Universe is hard to watch.  There's really no main heroes (like Jack/Daniel/Samantha/Teal'c), they waste far too much story time figuring out the ship (they've spent years working with Ancient tech in SG-1 and Atlantis, yet are almost totally lost on Destiny?), and there's entirely too much wishy-washy trust bullshit.  If you have reason to distrust someone, that's fine.  Kill or imprison them and move; don't flip flop back and forth between wanting to kill them and them being your best bud.

SG1 was excellent ... they lasted through what, 9 seasons, and I can't think of a bad one, even the Farscape Reunion season.

Atlantis had a good premise, and some style, but it never quite seemed to gel together. I kept on hoping that most of the lead characters would get killed.

Universe was just a mess. Interesting basic idea ... terrible execution.

I'm a bit surprised that there's not more love for Farscape.

It took a while for me to get passed the Jim Henson puppets, and the lighting ... and a few episodes for the characters (and writers) to get used to each other ... but after that, I thought that it was a magical Soap Opera.

A bit like the old 1980s Flash Gordon movie. I hated that movie when I first saw it ... and now I love it.

I was expecting Star Trek serious ... and it wasn't, it was made to be fun. Just like Farscape.

The cast and their interactions absolutely makes Farscape, and makes you want to suspend-disbelief because you're having fun. What other show could have done a Loony Tunes tribute episode, and have it make perfect sense in the storyline?

Gypsy

10 seasons of SG1 actually. I didn't like the last seasons as much, but it's splitting hairs and I still enjoyed them a lot.

Farscape is quite good too. I would certainly recommend it over say, Atlantis. It's actually one I should pick up the DVDs for. I already have SG1, Atlantis, DS9, Galactica etc...

elmer

Good point, there were 2 SG1 "Farscape Reunion" seasons, weren't there ... I keep on blending them into one!

Yeah, the final seasons were still good ... better than Atlantis, but not as good as the earlier ones.

If anyone wants a short break from aliens-n-spaceship scifi, then I'd highly recommend "The Lost Room" miniseries. Only 6 episodes and it's all done and wrapped-up.

Gypsy

Yep two of those seasons, and then a movie to wrap up the Ori plotline.

I remember The Lost Room being alright, but I haven't watched it since when it originally aired or close to it. It's definitely a bit out there.

Perfecto Greds.

So, I recently got most of the TNG seasons on DVD. Fun times ahead.

Enjoy, I say avoid voyager. Avoyager..

I am season 2 episode 8 in, so far none of the episodes are noteable or I would suggest anyone to watch. Most difficult to watch out of all of this stuff, still.

Gypsy

Oh yeah, I'll definitely enjoy it. Going to watch the Moriarty episodes first, then probably just in order from the beginning.

Groover

Well I couldn't watch Enterprise. I'm not too excited about the next Star Trek series either. I have now moved onto Wonder Woman. With all the talk about the movie I felt it was a good time to watch the tv show. I only saw a few growing up in reruns. On season 3. Thinking Batman with Adam West next. I loved that show growing up and have a few tapes of back to back episodes.

I have to check out Stargate. Seen the movie.

I said it before but yeah, watch Stargate, it's pretty good.

I got around to watching Elementary, Dear Data episode again last night. Good stuff. I did find out the follow up episode is in season 6 though, which is the one I don't have, lol. I'll have to remedy that.

Um...I have some news for you buddy. While Enterprise isn't the greatest ST series....fucking Wonder Woman is an extremely shitty show for 8 years olds. 1970s 8 year olds at that. Slightly better than Big Foot and Wildboy but not as good as Knight Rider.

Also, don't go watch Batman just because the guy died. Fuck, man. You've still got all those Prince and Bowie records, mid period James Bond, and Charlie Murphy stand up to plow through. Famous people are going to be croaking at an ever increasing rate in the coming years so watching all the stuff people make after they die is just going to become impossible. Consider the work of the still living, and perhaps some support as well.

It depends who dies for me to share this sentiment.

For example, I am a big Ramones and Clash fan.  When those guys died, I was on a big loop of remembrance...  though I suppose it was a fairly repetitive loop even prior to their deaths.

When Chris Cornel died, I gave him one car ride of listening to some old songs, cause I liked him but didn't listen to him a ton.

If Christina Aguilera died tomorrow, I wouldn't listen to anything.

Mourning is weighted.

Gredler

When Nate Dogg died we had a get together at my pad and played the gfunk classics, that was the saddest celebrity death for me and the only time I reflected on the artists works in remembrance, but that was and still is a very common music to listen for me but that might was different and so sad.

The voyager train slogs on, and I am still curious how this show lasted 7 seasons I am am on the last episode of season 2 and the Tuvix episode was the most interesting of all of them, and still was weird and not great. Patience is running thin but it puts me to sleep at night and Makes good white noise for chores and menial tasks lol

I want to revisit Battlestar Galactica (and Buck Rogers) to see if I enjoy them still, as an adult.
