10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Definitely no rush, it's awesome for you guys to do this.

Quote from: guest on 10/30/2015, 11:15 AMI just bought one today from the Netherlands at $35. Let's see how it holds up.
I do not have any games yet that really take advantage of six-button-controllers, but this might change soon.
Ys IV can make use of six buttons, I didn't realize this until I was about 90% through it. I'm pretty sure there are a few other games that aren't fighting games that use it

Well I got everything working and smoothed out. Oddly enough once i removed the voltage regulator I used an adjustable power supply to get my 5v, but it looked terrible. I ended up adjusting it to 9v and everything looks great. The 7805 was putting out 5v so I guess my problem was that the board wasn't getting what it needed. Is it safe to run without a regulator? Do I need to worry about voltage spikes?

The 2011 Winnie the Pooh movie was a really great return to form for 2d animation. I brought my kids to see it in the theater. I looked it up and the budget was 30mil and it was about an hour long. 70mil seems a bit excessive to me.
#305
PM sent, thanks for going to all the effort of doing this.
#306
Rewording my question some in case anyone knows. Is it possible to pull 5v directly off of a Euro scart cable?

Yeah some really cool screenshots in that thread. Basically all works of art too bad the thread tapered off.

Quote from: CGQuarterly on 10/22/2015, 07:16 PMGod damnit, I thought this thread was being bumped because there was a new video.
HaHa, same reason I clicked on the thread when I saw it bumped.

Great raffle, congrats to the winner.

The only real problem with doujindance is that he puts some awful glue on the board and it makes it really hard to work on if there was a problem.
#311
This may not be the correct place for this thread but I wasn't sure where else to put it. I've been having problems with screen rolling caused by scart to component converter. I was looking online and it seems that the problem is caused by a cheap power supply and that it is possible to get it to work on 5v's but I can't find any guides on the internet to do it. I was hoping to power it directly off the scart cable and therefore not need an external AC adapter. Has anyone had experience with this? Thanks.

Cartridges are too old school, UMD being the most practical and up to date format they should have made a PSP version.
#314
I think the SNES version was on a higher tier that wasn't reached. Besides who would want a cartridge game anyways CDs are the future.

I use 110# cardstock on a color laser printer, lightly scoring the fold lines with a razor for crisp corners.
The color laser printer at my job quit working so that's out. I'll have to stick shitty inkjet prints

I'm going back to school too except I was dumb and only took a couple of college classes after highschool. It's going pretty well but it may come to a halt once I run out of available online classes for my degree plan.

I agree it is annoying but it is better than giganto animated gifs that only allow for 3 posts per page.

Please place me in your raffle. I've spent a lot of time with a CDR of this and it would be nice to have the real thing.

Off-Topic / Re: Shit Kid Gamers Say
10/09/2015, 06:27 AM
I'm happy to say my 11 yr old daughter is pretty good at MegaMan 2 she can beat most of the bosses but hasn't made it to Dr. Wiley's stage yet. Things are quite a bit different for my kids than it was for me. I had so few games that I pretty much had to play them over and over. I mostly rented games so my completion rate wasn't very high.  Now my kids have way too much to choose from. Neither of them ( my son's 12) play crap like CoD though. For him it's Minecraft or WoW.
#323
I emailed some estate sale people and asked if they had any old games. They had one, it was a CIB copy of tengen pac man. Not that great of a find but when I went to get it the house was a ~$500k type of place. It was pretty cool to look around.
#324
It's probably not as applicable here but I always tried to look at the value of a game in terms of entertainment hours. For example a DVD movie would have cost about $20 for a 2 hour movie that you would most likely only watch 2-3 times. That's at most 6 hours of entertainment for $20. So a game offering 30 hours of entertainment is easily worth the $50 that new games used to cost. Also the PSP has TV out so technically RoB can be played on a TV that way although I'm not sure how well it plays technically speaking. Besides the the amount of entertainment value one gets from playing burned games is incredible when compared to the cost of a replacement lens.

Quote from: Bloufo on 10/06/2015, 11:16 AMThe home button doesn't always work. That's on me, though. When I changed the battery (the replacement just won't fit all that comfortably seeing as that new battery is a little longer and thicker) I reckon I must have inadvertently caused some issue in there.

No biggie, though. In any case, the unit has touch-screen capabilities, so in most instances I'm able to exit to "home" via that touch-screen.

Is it worth it to get one of these vs. some new fangled JXD device?  I have always followed these things, the GP2X Wiz, the Canoo, Pandora, GCW Zero etc.. but never got any of them.  I'd like to one day when the perfect device comes out.  The 3DS and Vita might be an option now too.
I think that the Vita has recently been fully opened up for homebrew and not just by exploiting the PSP side. I don't have one myself so I haven't looked into it in detail.

I picked this up in a trade recently.

Hell yes.

Obviously, I'll go ahead and add Dare! to the list of Zeta's "Excellent Albums"

*ducks*

I don't care. I love that album.

Plus, it's imperfections are part of its charm.

Don't hate the Human League because you heard one song played too often on the radio.

Great band. Great albums. Many flaws. Charming flaws.

Except for that one shite album that even I can't stomach—Crash.

God awful shite. I loathe Crash.
I love Human League, but Dare? That's like saying Peter Gabriel's best album was So.
I have Human League: Travelogue that I picked up from a flea market. I really like it even though I haven't got to spend much time with it. I also picked up Thomas Dolby, she blinded we with science is the weakest song on the album. Some songs are very Bowie like.

I figure it doesn't matter too much how much the shipping is or even if the game is good. I'll just get my money's worth just talking shit to Arkan until June 2017 :)

Yeah $19 is a bit steep for shipping.

OK I'm in for the standard PCE version. My first time to back a kickstarter.

I like the idea of version differences, it makes it more like the old days where different teams made the ports a la Aladdin.

I was born in 81 so I wasn't exactly a musical connoisseur during the decade but there was a lot of great music. I love the Cure, The Church, Echo and the Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins, and others I can't think of because I'm posting at 2:30 a.m.

I already have a ps2 with freeMCboot but I too don't know how to play translations. I think their is a Berserk game translation that I'd like to try. Anyways great raffle.

Joe I'm torn about whether I should go to retropalooza. I wished there was no football game that weekend. The hotel rooms are through the roof or booked. Anyways if I don't get to go here is my panel question: What made you go to weekly episodes and what new challenges do you face doing it more frequently?
