Just wondering If you guys can tell me what a sealed copy of Us Lords Of thunder is really worth ?? A local shop were I live has one for $100.00 dollars ..
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

Gogan

Nothin beats the real thing.

BigusSchmuck

$50 as that was what it was worth when it came out brand new. You would think its Japanese cousin Winds of Thunder would be cheaper but as of late thats gone up in price as well...

Bernie

I bought mine sealed last year, and paid 35 bucks I believe, plus shipping.  100 is too much IMO for that game, seeing as how they pop up for sale a lot.

mrhaboobi

id' pay $100 for sure.. because no doubt it has "RARE" written on the label somewhere which always means its worth alot.. :)

Depends on what you mean by "really worth." To the people on this forum, it is worth far less than the general FMV.

http://videogames.pricecharting.com/game/turbografx-16/lords-of-thunder-%5Bsuper-cd%5D

VGPC puts it at $135 new, so you might be able to flip it on ebay for that, if that is your goal.

To me, a CD case wrapped in plastic isn't worth anything more than a CD case not wrapped in plastic. That doesn't mean, to the right person, it isn't worth that. When it comes to sealed items, that is what the question of worth really comes down to. Are you looking to make a profit, and if so, are you willing to put in the leg work to find that one buyer who will make it worth your time?

If you want the game for yourself, hold out for an unsealed copy, imo. You can get it much cheaper, even on eBay.

some of us do value sealed stuff on these forums ( not many but some ;) ), but i still wouldnt pay $100 for a sealed copy of THAT game.. would i even consider to what VGPC lists it at?  no..  given that one sold for 78 new on there lists.. if i was buying sealed id say 50 - 75 tops and that would be on ebay.. but thats my opinion, 175 is way over the top..

I'd pay $80-100 for it based on awesomeness of the game relative to what else that much money will get you, everything else being equal. No idea what it goes for.

I like how Kobold assumes NGH might be a reseller and then proceeds to give him advice.

NGH - Is it worth that much? No. Are you going to find it sealed for less? No. Buy a used copy.

I gave him two pieces of advice. One for reselling, and one for gaming. No assumptions were made. He asked "what is worth?"

But your straight up No answer is soooo much more helpful and informative.

Oh well, continue making shit up about me.

I'm pretty sure nec wanted advice for gaming.  Lords of Thunder certainly is not a 100 dollar title, even sealed.  Like I said earlier, I bought mine sealed just last year for under 50 shipped.  It pops up a lot on eBay.

turboswimbz

I've watched this one quite a bit, I would say $50 is a good price up to $75 if you really want it.

If your going to keep it sealed and collect sealed games that is,

If you want to open and play it I'd say don't spend more than $50 or get an opened copy.  And since you didn't but it right away as a must have, I'd say that it isn't worth spending that much just yet and you should sit and wait, LoT is pretty common.

I've been waiting for an open copy to come along that's well under $50 myself to play it.

Just 1 of many suggestions on here, but hope it helps.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Actually I think he suggested gouging the ebay community, but at any rate yeah that's basically what he did. If you plan to play the game, just buy a used copy. Theres no point in blowing 100 bucks for a sealed one with the intention of opening it and playing it when you can buy a used mint copy for $30-40 less and get the same results.

That I made an assumption about his motives.

Jeez, this forum absolutely hates a different perspective.  He made no specifications as to why he asked "What is it worth?" So I gave a different view point, with some historical data to back it up. I didn't say he should, or would, just that he could.

Finally, it wouldn't be gouging the "turbo community." Anyone willing to pay a 100% premium on a sealed game is one of those "rich-collector-types" that you'll rant about. So, why do you care what those collector types are willing to pay? I thought you hated them.

I'm  looking to buy it for myself flip a coin and decide if im going to open it play it or save it for a good trade in the future
.. I've have been wanting a copy for some time now.. Even before i bought my Duo-R .. So 100 bucks is a little on the steep side..
I know i can buy a jp version for much cheaper but i want a Us copy.. Gonna try to haggle down the price to 80 bucks then..
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

Just be aware you will be less likely to be able to move it here and recoup what you spent either way it goes, trade or sell wise, if its a new sealed copy. Not many here do the sealed game bit, just a few here and there, so you really would be better off taking it to ebay if you plan to break even or rake in a profit. Be aware also, for what its worth, you'll make more friends then enemies here BY NOT advertising about doing this kind of stuff. No one here really cares much to help the ebay resell market, nor people who are relatively new here and partake in that activity. It will create a bit of distrust on your end, because people sell games lower then ebay prices often here and cut other members deals. People will second guess giving a guy a deal if they know hes the one buying stuff and taking it straight to ebay for profit.

If you want to know what a game sells for on there, go check completed auctions and keep it to yourself. What it will sell for on there is going to vary from what it will sell for here for obvious reasons everyone's tired of repeating ad nauseam.

+1

Just get yourself a used copy and have fun.

The only other thing I'll add is keep in mind that Lords is by no means rare. It's become somewhat expensive because it's one of the best U.S. games and because the price of ALL U.S. games is inflating. LoT probably had more promotion and better distribution than any other SCD game during the Duo's heyday. Then TZD sold thirty-dollar sealed copies for over a decade and never ran out of stock. Then a bunch of us bought ten-dollar sealed copies from Game Express when they were clearing out. There are a lot of sealed copies out there.

Sounds like it's not even worth the trouble of haggling with the guy for even 80 bucks now .. Honestly I thought having sealed games was also part of collecting and trading with friends .. I'm having second thoughts now .. I'm just gonna look around until I can find a used copy that is in great condition to keep for myself .. I'm here on this site because I genuinely love playing the old games from our past, not to make a profit off of new potential friends .. With that said I would still love to own a Us copy of Lords Of Thunder one day .. I freakin love playing that game !!! I'm an old school kinda guy and after all these years I am finally getting my Turbo fix that I couldn't afford when I was a kid growing up !!!

Thanks you guys for giving me the honest truth about how these things work ...

Like what has been said before, buy a used copy off ebay for a bit cheaper. Nothings stopping you really if you want to play the game.

Nec.Game.head

Gonna start my hunt for a cheaply priced Us copy .. I freakin love all the songs on that game !! Old school metal all the way  !!! I downloaded a copy just to test out my Tg16 cd player a friend gave me weeks ago and to play the sound tracks of off my computer .. I'm kinda nervous about playing the game on my Duo-R .. I wouldn't want to take the chance of damaging my laser .. Do you guys know of any other shumps that have similar game play like Lords Of Thunder, and also have kick ass metal tracks ??? Trying to convince my girlfriend to buy me a few games for my b-day a week and a half from now ..

Thanks you guys for all the advice ...

id take the sealed one off your hands in trade for a mint unsealed and a few bucks ;)  Always an option, but you'd want to get their price down a bit more.

I was just asking what the true value was here, because I don't base games value of off what mainstream collector/sellers say especially on ebay .. I'm a total noob when it comes to my Turbo facts and value on this stuff, but that's why I'm here and I ask you guys for advice .. I figured saving a sealed copy might be cool that's all .. I know growing up I could never save my toys or personal belongings for that long, that's why now as an adult I can always have two of the same thing if I'd like to .. One to play and enjoy, and another to save sealed .. The way I see it is that someone later in the future might be really stoaked to own a sealed mint copy of this game, and might want to trade me for it .. I don't care too much about sealed items but I do know that some people do .. I have never sold my friends games but have always traded with them .. But that also doesn't mean that I won't pay money for games from mom and pop stores or private sellers .. My apology's if I seemed like a profit $$$ hungry game nerd .. I truly really enjoy this pce life that I'm learning about each and everyday that passes .. Gonna buy a used copy first then later when I have the extra dough go haggle with the store dude for 65 bucks if I buy a few other items from his store .. I'll just be sure to give him the facts first about the pricing so that he doesn't try to bs me about it being rare .. The store dude, which is the owner is pretty reasonable and knows me well ...

                                                                                  Thanks for the reply's ....

35$ Sealed from TZD before they blew up.  Or maybe it was 30$.  Either way,

Anything more is dumb.

Sealed CD games were $30 at TZD up until the end.

Lords is the Keith Courage of Turbo CD games. They printed a huge amount of them as they marketed the entire console around the game.

Wouldn't Gate of Thunder be the KC of TurboCD games, since it was the pack in?

I'd see Lords more like Bonk's Adventure, since Bonk was suppose to carry the TG16 on his back, or oversized head.

For the past fifteen years I've seen the ratio of Lords over Gate copies available online as at least 4:1. Lords has always been cheaper on the secondary market. Lords is more well known outside the Turbo community than Gate. Lords is more often suggested or desired as a first SCD to get. LoT is as desirable and well known as any Turbo game, yet TZD still couldn't sell out of it up to the end. Who knows how many stacks of sealed copies of LoT were still in the TZD warehouse after everyone in the world who wanted one had over a decade to buy it new. Now all those clueless sealed game collectors are going to pass around those sealed copies of LoT as though it's some rare find, instead of as the common game it actually is as both complete and sealed.

I got mine new from TZD when they had the buy 1 get the second game half off 4 to 5 years ago. I got Lords of Thunder and Forgotten Worlds for $45. So $30 each for the original prices. This was just after when LoT was "out of stock" (yeah right) and it was put up for sale again with this deal that week.
