10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I spent 180 for one at a local shop last month. Had the tv tuner too. But needed a recap and no box.

Yeah, I messaged Keith about my screen. As I was curious about what options there were concerning it. He suggested just keeping it stock unless there's a major issue with it. Which is what i'm going to do.

If I had gotten a screen, I wanted something that would have fit in the existing space. No cutting and definitely didn't want to loose the black overlay that says "TurboEXPRESS".

As to the recap, I ended up sending it to a friend. As he's already repairing a Neo-Geo motherboard for me. Else I would have sent it to Keith. After doing a little reading I discovered the caps are no joke on the express. I hadn't realized they were surface mounted. URGH..

Anything in Colorado? Denver or Colorado Springs area? Going to be there next month for a few days...

Quote from: mickcris on 05/20/2016, 11:51 AMhere is one too if you dont want to worry about tracking a compatible one down.  be warned that this seller's supplies usually have really short cables though so you may need to play close to the wall.

Interesting. That's actually a 9v power supply. So the Express can handle 9v? If so, that makes the AC Adapter search much easier.

Quote from: Killjoyy027 on 05/19/2016, 08:38 PMI would contact Keith courage here on the forums he did a spectacular job on mine including a screen upgrade making it much more playable with a modern screen .
Thx. Always hear great stuff about Keith. Just don't know if I want to mod the screen quite yet. At the moment I'm wanting to keep it stock (just with new audio caps)

Been dreaming about having one since being a kid and seeing the commercials and the ads in the game mags.

Local shop just got it yesterday and I scooped immediately. One owner and no scratches. Just needs a cleaning and an audio recap.

Any suggestion where to buy a trust worthy AC adapter? And a cap kit?

I just got sucked into the PSO2 animation on Crunchyroll. Was bored so watched a few episodes. Didn't expect it but I couldn't stop watching.

Man, that guy just makes my blood boil.

Crossing fingers that he changes his mind again on the title.

I've been reading up on resin casting... I'm starting to think that's probably the best bet. It's just the hassle of materials and setup. off to do more research..

Thanks for posting about that series. They were taking so long I completely forgot about the 3rd movie.

Sorry, if i'm a little late to this discussion. Also sorry if I repeat what others have said above. I read most of the first page and then started skimming.

I have two 3d printers I build plus I go to a TechShop once a month or so to laser cut.

For the tray inserts, I see a few different options (none perfect to original).

  • One you CAD a version of the tray and just print away on a 3d printer (as someone is already doing in different thread)
  • Take that 3d printed model and clean it up and make a silicone mold (or a bazillion molds if you want to scale up). This youtube video shows the same process done to make a Fallout4 Nuka Cola bottle in resin (
Course if you're making a mold, why not take an original Hucard tray and make a silicone mold with that instead.
  • The best way to mass produce would be an injection mold, but it's expensive and you need the machinery. Yes, you could use a Techshop. (I sat across from their injection molding machine earlier this week). The problem is that I doubt you're going to sit at a techshop for hours and hours to crank them out. I doubt their machine is meant for that kind of work load even. Plus you would need to take their injection molding class. Then pay $50 for a day pass.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: FOUND: PCE controller

Thanks for the links Keith. A few hours previously I ended up just order this 5 pin din (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QDF1V04). So I could just mod an old RCA cable. Hopefully it fits or I'll end up just ordering your solution.

Buy/Sell/Trade / FOUND: PCE controller

FOUND
****************

Just randomly snagged a PCE Duo-R and it should be here later this week.
...but of course it doesn't come with anything.

Anyone have an extra controller they want to sell? $20 a reasonable price?

Also if someone has a cheap AV cable that would rock too. Else I'll probably just make one.

Man, never realized you were doing these videos. I've watched a few previously and just finished the one about the launch of Turbografx. Thanks for making these. Keep it up. *subscribed*

thanks. Was reading about the everdrives last night.

I noticed on the official site that the creator notes that region modded systems might have trouble with the everdrive. Is this true??

Quote from: wilykat on 01/19/2016, 07:43 AMIf mixed military and fantasy is your thing, maybe Outbreak Company? http://myanimelist.net/anime/19369/Outbreak_Company  Quite funny.
Thanks. I'll check that out. I was looking for something new.

Anyone watching Crunchyroll? At the moment I'm digging "Gate". Modern military in a fantasy world. Fun

Now to start Captain Harlock. Been so long I can't remember the story.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've been going back and forth. Wait and save for the DUO-R. Or since this all new anyway just get a CoreGrafx to start playing some games sooner. Then either sell and upgrade to a Duo, or buy a briefcase. Which I kinda dig the look of. Just know that setup can be a little fickle. (CD drive anyway)

Thanks.

I've never purchased an everdrive, but i've heard the same advice. As I guess many of the games, especially US, have become rather expensive.

At the moment this is the only game I owe for the system. I grabbed it when I thought I was getting the Turbografx-16. I guess it's just another reason to buy a region modded pce duo-r.

Hey guys, I'll go ahead and get it out of the way and say i'm a complete noobie to PCE.

Last month I tried to buy a turbografx w/ boost from a local shop. It was missing the power and a controller. So the shop owner asked that I come back when he had everything, but of course it was gone the next time I came it. So now, i'm just researching and trying to figure out what system I really want. Which so far i've been told repeatedly to grab a DUO-R (guess I need to save up)

I'm a gamer (not a collector). Have good many of the systems from the 80 and 90's, but as a kid I never played or had a Turbografx-16. Like many others I dreamed of playing those awesome games listed in the mags of the time. I still remember those Ys CD ads. I even did one of those Bonk challenge where they asked kids to draw the next game's cover. Can't believe I never received a response back lol

If you think i'm just a leech or anything feel free to check my alias at NeoGeo or Klov. I'm not hugely active, but I'm also not grabbing or selling systems/games left and right.

i'm not sure how much new info I can add to the forum discussion, but i'll definitely try as I soak up everything

On a side note, i'm also a hacker, builder, maker (whatever term you want to call it). A few years ago I even sold off some of my arcade stuff to help fund building my first 3d printer.

later,
~Bill
