No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I never noticed this thread before #-o SUPER SWEET!! As I am running through lists on eBay, Rising Stuff and others I pass by all these Japanese PCE RPGs not knowing anything about them. With all these walkthroughs conveniently available right here on my favorite site on earth is just mind blowing. Thank you, all of you, for your hard work on creating these PC Engine RPG guides. I plan to use them soon. :D

Sol Moonarage seems and plays like a kick-azz RPG, and rather tough to come by.  I finally picked up a copy complete with spine for 6000 yen 2 months ago but haven't played far.  It's supposed to be as good or better than Anearth stories:Seiya... anyone get far on Sol Moonarage?  looks like a good candidate for walkthrough so the door is opened for the English-speaking RGP fans out there!!   :P

Mathius

Sure wish there was a Blood Gear guide to understand the Japanese menu setup. This game rulz, but there isn't one English language guide on the net anywhere. :(

Just a note that I added a chapter 3 faq to Cosmic Fantasy 3 to complete CrackTiger's Chapter 1 & 2 faq.  (Yeah, I'm too lazy to write up a whole one).  My first faq ever, so it's not super complete by any means, but it should get you through chapter 3, especially if you're familiar enough with the gameplay to make it through chapter 1 and 2 already.

It's next to black tiger's faq on gamefaqs.

This is the faq I've been using for Dragon knight III.  http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/564630-knights-of-xentar/faqs/22006

I recently picked up part 2 but haven't started looking for a walkthrough yet.

This is really helpful; kudos to everyone involved in writing and/or finding these FAQs.

Most gamers I come across online feel that if an RPG is in Japanese and you don't know the language, there's no point in even bothering with it because, according to them, it would be impossible to have any fun with it. Personally, that's never been the case for me. Even though I know very, very little Japanese (basically I can read katakana when it's representing English, which helps a ton for video games, and I can recognize a handful of native words in hiragana and kanji), I've played through many text-heavy games in Japanese, including some of my very favorite games. I can't claim to understand the plot completely, but I don't feel completely in the dark either. There's a lot you can pick up outside of the text. Maybe the big difference between me and many other RPG players is that, despite that I really love the genre, I still place gameplay above story, unlike so many other RPG fans. I love a good battle system and exploring interesting dungeons, and I will gladly accept missing out on some story for the opportunity to enjoy that. So that's why I'm always really thankful for people who write walkthroughs for text-heavy Japanese games for people who don't know the language.

You're just like I am. After I picked up F'uun Kabuki Den and damn near beating it (and accidently erasing just when I got to the final dungeon), I got much braver and started tackling the other ones that I had.

Thanks for this thread. It'll greatly help me with Kabuki Den (which I ordered thinking it was Kabuki Klash).
Gaming since 1985

NecroPhile

While they're both fighting games featuring Far East of Eden characters, Kabuki Itouryodan is not a port of Kabuki Klash.
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

CrackTiger

Kabuki Klash plays like Samurai Spirits and has a general Tengai Makyou theme.

Kabuki Itouryoden plays like SFII and is heavily based on Fuun Kabuki Den.

Follow blueraven's guide to get started, then switch to this one from the turbolist for the rest of the game.  It's rather vague, but it was enough for me to beat the game with zero moonrune skills.

Yeah, just found the turbolist archives, and downloaded everything there, stuff like that needs to be preserved. Man I miss that thing, god I think that list started before I was even in college. God I feel old. Thanks for the info.

If you'll excuse me I'm going to ride this wave of nostalgia for a minute. (I wonder if the archives for the list still exist?)

Are there any resources anywhere which lists the commands for 3X3 Eyes? I am trying to love that game but it's Japanese isn't loving me back.

It's supposed to be either non-linear or have a non-linear "campaign", so it would likely be tricky no matter what.

They're out there...... just not in english.  :|

Quote from: termis on 09/13/2012, 08:19 AMYou can usually find something on a Japanese search engine if you type "game name (in Japanese of course) + 攻略".  攻略 (Kouryaku) is the equivalent Japanese word used for guide/walkthrough/etc...
This generally works well, though you'll have to deal with machine translated engrish and fill in a few blanks with trial and error.

Don't sweat it, the search function is kinda strange on here, so if things are bumped in the first few pages it's easy to miss these things.

I haven't talked to Runin in years and I miss our conversations. The Duomazov Bros have been dormant since 2014 as well. The net misses you! *sobs*

Yowza, that was a bad one.  Normally I'd give the OP a chance to update on their own, but not when it's going to porn city.

I too miss runin.  I wish he'd post here more and/or make some new reviews for the Bros. (where's Hatris?!?), but I'm thankful for what we got; it's pretty fucking awesome and covers a huge chunk of the library.

Is there any way to resuscitate a thread that has been deleted? The thread here at pcefx that ultimately became the impetus for Duomazov had so much great stuff in it... I asked Runin if he had an archive of it (he didn't)

...wouldn't it be awesome if the forum software retains everything in database, even deleted threads?
