Hey Guys,
I do not know if this topic was mentioned before.
Since a long time I am having issues plugging a control pad on my Japanese Duo-R.
Seems that is not detecting properly the pad, and the run button does not work anymore, and sometimes pressing left during a game play, works as the run button...
A total mess.  Anyway, this issue can be solved readjusting and re-connecting with certain pressure the control  again, and moving it to the right.
Seems that the controller port could be damaged.
I have tested it with several controllers with the same wrong behavior.
Since I have a terrible soldering skills I would like to know it there is another way without open the console.
Please let me know if you have any idea and may thanks!

Sounds like the port connection to the mainboard has bad connection (cold solder). This happens over time with the stress of young Japanese kids plugging in and out pads over time. I feel opening it up is the only solution because it can get worse. If you really can't open it up and do the fix, maybe you can use a rubber band to apply the "certain pressure" to the controller plug on the port but that it total Macgyver move and not a permanent.

I got a Shuttle with similar issue that the seller made me aware of and also lowered the price since he did not have time to do the repair, and I did.

The controller port in the Duo R is only soldered on the underside and the solder is prone to cracking. The only way to fix it is to open the console and reflow the solder.

Thank you both for the super quick reply.
I have already made my MacGyver move a long time ago, but now is the time to find a lifetime solution, something more permanent...

Will try to order some proper screwdriver to be able to open it and have a look inside.
If someone knows were to find a tutorial (or even a proper explanation) of how to re-solder/reflow the port, would be much appreciate it.

In the mean time, thanks a lot.

It is simple. There are 8 pins underneath the controller port and 3 larger ground support points. Simply use a soldering iron and add/flow a little solder to each pin.

Yeah, if applying pressure on the connection at the port fixes it, definitely a problem with broken soldered joints as everyone said. If reflowing the solder doesn't fully fix it, might need to scrape the traces near the joints, add more solder/flux to ensure full connection to every line. Nope, you can't fix this without opening the unit and using a trusty solder iron.

Thanks you all.
It seems that I have to improve my soldering skills asap, and trust in my "trusty" low cost solder iron.
I will keep you updated.
Once again, thanks for encouraging me to do it, since as everyone said, should not be very difficult...
