10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Being developed by the French. So are the Japanese completely out of the biz now? Can they even do jack shit on their own any more?
#252
Is that for consoles or is it some Steam-only bullshit?
#253
He did a much better job on Mega Man 2 both in melody composition and overall sound quality.
#254
Honestly though I felt that the whole movie was full of spoilers. Do not see this movie if you don't want it to be spoiled!

#1 - WTF is a jo crystal? I'm sure he just put his phone in his pocket really quick since he was looking at porn or something.

#2 - A lot of people have been speculating that Ren and Rey are twins. Twins seem to happen a lot within the force (or so they say) but Han and Leia never spoke of having twins and that's something I think they'd know about. So I don't think they were twins. I personally feel as if she's Luke's daughter but if THAT were true then why did she have a flashback of being kidnapped by Ren when she was little?

Also, are Han and Leia divorced? Or did they just never marry? Also what does Han think about Bravoman?

Snoke is just Gollum nothing more. Even looks the same.

Quote from: vacantplanets on 12/21/2015, 09:03 PMIf anyone's interested, his covers have also been added to Mega Man X2 and X3 thanks to the MSU-1 playable through the SD2SNES or Higan/BSNES. I also added his X3 soundtrack to the Saturn and Playstation versions. I uploaded them on the same site as I did with Mega Man CD. :)
As long as you're not linking the actual ROM, you're good with posting that link here. An update patch is also fine to link to.
#257
I hope the new tracks weren't just taken from a Youtube video, but instead an uncompressed WAV of AIF source. Stuff like Youtube vids or MP3s should never be used because the compression destroys them.
#258
If you're in this thread I assume you've disregarded any spoiler warnings, so here goes:

That ending. I love seeing Luke and all. Can't wait for part 8. But she's holding the saber towards him like 'You want dis?" And he's like "I dunno I kinda need to stare at the horizon for a little longer. It's what I do. All these years I've been staring in the wrong direction because I totally missed the Millennium Falcom approaching. I didn't even hear it." and neither can make up their mind what to do. I think it should have ended with that and they should have left the helicopter shot off. It just makes it seem like they stand there motionless for minutes if not hours.
#259
This sucks. Needs to be MOBILE ONLY! Dropped the ball once again giving us a console version. Who the hell wants to play on a game console? So lame. Phones are the future.

I loved it. I only have a few minor nitpicks. #1 is the score. While Star Wars themes were in there it seemed like an overall lackluster effort by J Diddy Williams even compared to the prequels. It was also odd not hearing/seeing the 20th Century Fox fanfare before the "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away..." that I've associated with Star Wars for over 60 years now. At least they didn't have the Disney castle logo animation. Nitpick #2 is the sloppy jump cut when princess Leia is talking in one certain scene. The camera is on her and then mid sentence it jumps forward to being closer to her at a slightly different angle. Now I understand that it probably took Carrie Fisher a great deal of effort to even deliver a single line and they had to cut and paste different takes to make a good one, but they should have cut away to someone else in the room listening for a second to disguise the sloppy-ass jump cut.

QuoteNo I think he meant number of physical copies to be made for sale. Not amount of content on the disk data wise.
Derp. I must have misread that. I wonder what their minimum quantity is. It's not like it's hard to go out and press a couple thousand Blu-rays. Sadly MS probably demands that THEY handle the pressing.

Quote from: guest on 12/13/2015, 07:56 PMWe will never see a physical copy unless MS changes their policy regarding minimum quantity of discs that must be produced for a given title.
Is that a real policy? Not only is that dumb, but there could be a super-easy way around it. Just fill it with easy-to-produce nonsense, like a video of some dude playing the game for two hours and not even getting past stage one. Or it's just a video of the dude and it never shows the game, you only hear it. Or just duplicate the game on the disc 300 times and only load one of them.

It was planned, but recently canceled. I guess MS are assholes or something, I'm not exactly sure what the deal was.

They have no idea how ruthless Nintendo is. Let's use Youtube as an example. Usually the sample size is around 20 seconds before a 3rd party can claim copyright on your video. With Nintendo it is 5 seconds. I don't know how they negotiated that with Youtube. They don't care if your video gets 100,000 views or 1 view.
#270
The specs say 120Hz. I can't imagine any display running as slow as 30Hz. It'd be throwing away half the information.

I don't like the way they look. The male characters are much too feminine for my taste in both character design and apparel (some of the costumes are atrocious). I can't take a villain seriously if he spends more time in front of the mirror stylin' his hair than he does doing world-conquering things.

I didn't tell him it was homebrew. He probably just searched for Youtube footage. Oh well it IS an actual Turbo game. It's like Bible Adventure, only it doesn't suck, it's not about the Bible, and it's a completely different game. I even included an Oxford comma on that last sentence so you know I'm serious.
#275
What did they say? Mike asked about games like Defender and I told him Atlantean for the TurboGrafx. Haven't bothered to watch said video cuz I'm not really that interested in Resogun.

Quote from: Medic_wheat on 11/28/2015, 05:44 PMFrankly I view it as self censorship as Capcom made the choice to remove objectable content then on that bases alone it is a form of self censorship.
Doesn't matter how you label it, it was Capcom's choice. Just like it was Tecmo's choice not to release Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball 3 here. Neither company was shamed into doing so. You seem to view that as a bad thing, as if this should NEVER occur. Capcom had it one way and fuck them all to hell if they dare change it, even on their own accord. Your definition of censorship would even apply to the following scenario: Capcom designs ALL of the characters nude as base models. During development they eventually put clothes on them. There are many different costumes, but there is no option to play without the clothes as they were originally designed. Censorship! I don't think this is an issue at all, period. Judge the game by it's final release and quit feeling so entitled to ass slappage.

Also, fuck the CUPcast. Though not literally.

Interesting. If it's as simple as soldering a capacitor in place I'll do it when we install the RGB jack. Might as well. In the mean time I wanna tell Dave to switch the palette.

He's also using s-video for that capture. Still have to find the time to put the RGB jack in there. And finding time is the hardest thing to do because I have to coordinate Dave and Bill, neither of them will do it on their own. Gotta do his Turbo Duo as well.

Also I'm not sure what you're talking about with "pixel fringing". All I see is the bendy part at the top of the screen and I attribute that to S-video. If it is indeed a bad batch and will show up in RGB as well when we put it in, what is the fix?

I didn't even talk about Imperium, numbnuts. LOL u r wrong on the internet!

My thoughts are accurate for how I feel. If you feel different, that does not make my thoughts inaccurate. Aero Fighters is good but not amazing. Why do you guys keep calling it Sonic Wings? Maybe if you lived in Japan I would understand it. Quit being weebo. The only time this is appropriate is Thunder Force 4 vs Lightening Force.

1.    Dave said that you can't run in SNES Hook.  To run you need only hold down Y.  Pretty much like Super Mario.
You are the first to tell us this. Thanks.

Wouldn't it be relatively easy for someone to write an app that allows transfer of game saves to and from the SD card? Not in bulk like the ghetto-ass Tennokoe Bank does it. That's for homeless people. I'm talking a slot-by-slot transfer and backup. I'd love transferring saves around the internet so y'all could see my wicked high scores on your own screen. Unless Krikzz doesn't allow the TED to write to the card?
#288
Also I would be surprised if Hudson would actually use the word "though". That just doesn't sound like something that fits in with the rest of the sentence structure which is struggling to be English. "Though" is too casual a word IMO. I think it would not have been in there at all and it would have fit better if it weren't.
#289
Oh god please no do NOT suggest that the con be 3 days. That would be murder. I prefer 1 day cons myself.

4:3 for 4:3 games. 16:9 for 16:9 games. 16:9 monitor, stretched image laying flat down on a table for TATE games with the spoken word "TATE" being said through loudspeakers in the room (rhyming with "Kate") every 6 seconds is the only way to play those games.

EDIT: Off topic, but the Framemeister pisses me off with the amount of visual noise the scaler causes in some (actually, many) solid colors.

I really want to try that SNES Ys V translation patch. I can't recall my own Ys episode if the PS2 version was patched or not. Like I'd ever watch that hack of a show, the hosts are just awful. But anyway the SNES version is supposedly the "official cannon" version of the game so the next time we visit this topic that's one I'd like to try. There's soooooo much translated stuff on the SNES and NES. That's good and all but I wish there were more on other systems. We try to cover that stuff and we get "Why no Mother 3???" Who gives a shit? I mean I want to cover it just to get it out of the way but we don't have that one and there's no GBA Everdrive yet. Neither of us really wanna buy a repro of it. I'd rather talk about games like King Colossus or some other game that the entire internet doesn't already know about. Though sometimes we do cover those types of games to placate the masses.

Yeah it is, it's just desaturated. I'm not sure why the GBA and related players don't just default to black and white for normal GameBoy games. I never understood that. That's how they look their best!

Quote from: guest on 09/20/2015, 05:34 PMAlthough it seems to me like you guys slightly messed up the "colour" palette for Super Mario Land, Kirby 1 and Kirby 2 slightly - these parts of the video look like white was swapped with light grey.
We didn't mess it up, the Gameboy Player messed it up. I couldn't do much on my end to make it look better though I did brighten it up.

Quote from: Dicer on 09/09/2015, 08:28 PMI started that NeoGaf thread and (un)expectedly it turned to shit, I really should know better by now.
Actually, thanks for doing that. Even though it became laden with living feces making some posts, it's still good that people see it and know there's a site that will have extra content that would normally clutter up our channel. Hell this weekend I'll be posting a video that got auto-flagged by Youtube. It's a companion piece to the episode we'll be releasing. And we'll eventually be talking about music in videogames. Wanna get the convention schedule out of the way first.

And yeah, it's always fun to count how long it takes us to get our first thumbs down on Youtube. Usually it's a matter of minutes. That means people are feverishly waiting for us to release a new video just so they can thumb us down. The dedication is actually kind of cool.

A cheating device episode would be good. I have a Genesis Game Genie. I think that's all the cheating devices we have. We'd have to track down a ton more. We could borrow some but we'd likely have to borrow from multiple sources and that'd mean such items would be in our possession for quite a long time. Is "that'd" a word? I've got a red underline under that bitch.

As for Sega-16, it was the constant nitpicking over stupid things that weren't even worded as a form as constructive criticism. I can usually take this kind of nonsense but when the other flies start circling the shit and all jump on board it just gave me a feeling of being quite unwelcome there. But hey, I'm glad they're at least talking about the show even if it's not good. I'm just not obligated to be part of that conversation. The bigger ANY forum gets, the more of this there is. If this forum were as big as Sega-16 it'd be just as obnoxious. People tell me Nintendo Age is very bad in a similar way. Someone linked me a Neo GAF thread about our Final Bosses site and reading that thread you'd think Game Sack was some sort of show dedicated to crushing transgender people and women. One moron or two even said something like "Ima unsub from Game Sack because they dare be friends with Alpha Omega Sin". Seems extremely shallow to me, but at least they're clearing the pool of idiots from our audience so that we don't have to do it ourselves. Alpha is a great friend. He's very sincere, empathetic and never lets his ego get in the way.

Quote from: ccovell on 08/17/2015, 10:58 PMOK, about the video: You guys went on and on about the crappy CD32 pad, but you never mentioned the excellent Competition Pro pad, which you obviously had.
This episode wasn't about 3rd party peripherals, it was about the real deal. I don't think I would call it "excellent". Better than the stock pad? Obviously. But the Genesis 3-button form factor rip-off turned me off. Too bad real Genesis controllers like the 6-button can't be used with games that use more than a single button.
